Remember guys there are just the variety for this city/province. If you travel to anther city, the breakfast selections could be vastly different than anything you see here.
In most hotels, especially the ones 3 stars above, there is usually breakfast buffet that is HUGE. I stayed at one in Hanghzhou and it took 3 mins to walk the buffet... fresh watermelon juice, a giant honey comb (fresh), every single item you can imaging, it's everything you showed here in one place.
The title of 'Food Paradise' is well-deserved. From street snacks to Michelin-starred restaurants, every bite is a decadent treat for the taste buds. Chinese cuisine, I'm completely smitten!
Shaomai 烧麦 is styled in the south with stuffed sticky rice, while in the north they are stuffed with meat and veggies. as a person born in the north but of south origin, i prefer the northern style. wish you both have a nice stay in China.
learn your own country's geograpy, 江南地区is centre or east of China The soutern style 烧卖 (Cantanese style is the representative)is stuffed with meat too, just as similar as the northern one😒🎉
Breakfast varies from province to province and even from city to city in China. I live in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, and my favorite breakfasts include sweet soybean milk, salty soybean milk, deep-fried doughnuts (which can be dipped in a little bit of soy sauce), xiao long bao (small dumplings), bamboo shoots with shao mai (roasted pork), noodles mixed with peanut sauce, noodles mixed with scallions and oil, skinny pork porridge with egg, millet porridge, pumpkin porridge, and many other types of sweet or salty porridge. The crust on the outside of the JianBing you guys are eating in the video is made of mixed grains and it's my favorite too. There are still some breakfasts in China that I haven't had either, so I look forward to your continued exploration.
What makes foreign friends confused most is the difference between 包子baozi and 馒头 mantou. Because they're the same word bun in English. So it's better to use Pinyin for them on this situation. Basically 皮蛋瘦肉粥 is very popular in Chinese communities overseas. I noticed that there was no pieces of century old eggs in your congee. Bakeries in China only serve western style bread that we don't eat for breakfast. It's an economic option to grab food for breakfast from streetfront eateries and street vendors! Remember the difference between 包子,饺子,馒头,和面包。小笼包其实是包子,但被翻译成Soup dumplings😂. Honestly watching your video makes me feel hungry at the moment! Enjoy your trip in hangzhou!!🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
Yes, Baozi has filling usually. Mantou refers to plain buns without fillings. Both are leavened using yeast. Jiaozi, Xiaolongbao is just wrappers that are dough made with oil unleavened. However some northern Xiaolongbao variation that you get in Beijing, Xi'an is more like leavened wrapping. Shanghai and southern ones are more unleavened wrapper, small and delicate.
It's really good. What you have summarized is really the most common part of Chinese people in the morning. There are many more. You can explore slowly. Just one "饼", there are at least hundreds of kinds in China. Chinese food is much more complex than that in the West
Tea eggs are boil in herb soup in 8 hours approximately. The well cooked tea egg give u a fragrance of the herb soup inside. The less cooking time, the less fragrance inside the egg.
@@EoinandAisling They are delicious. And If you travel to Yunnan or Guanxi Provinces, you can try rice noodles there. Their rice noodles are also famous and tasty in China.
I think the potato is crunchy not because it's not cooked all the way through, it's just rinsed with water to get the excess starch out, that's what chinese do when we want crunchy 土豆丝
Soaking potatoes in water is to remove excess starch, and the real reason for the crispiness of potato shreds is the addition of vinegar. When vinegar is added to the pot during the cooking process, the potatoes will become crisp.
In Chinese steamed bun= man-tou which is without fillings and made with different flours. So when you asked “what’s your favorite steamed bun?”, it translated to “what’s your favorite mantou?” The seller then pointed to corn flour mantou, probably over the wheat, buckwheat or whole wheat flour mantou, all steamed buns without fillings. Steamed bun with filings = Bao-zi. To not be confused with mantou the steamed buns, it’s better to ask for Baozi instead of steamed bun. My favorite Baozi is Cai Baozi (Tsai-green vegetables baozi). The fillings are shiitake mushrooms and green vegetables. Another favorite is hua-juan which is steamed twisted buns with green onions. Thanks for your wonderful videos.
actually the fried dough sticks are supposed to be put in the salty soybean milk but sweet one😂😂 we also put soy sauce in tasteless soybean milk it is also delicious
If you ever go to the province of Fujian, one of our most well known breakfast combinations are peanut butter banmian (noodles) eaten with Fujianese wonton soup called Bian Rou. Definitely give it a try some time!
The way you tear the "you tiao" to put into the soya milk bowl is almost similar to the way I do it too , here in Singapore . However, such shops are rare today as they are specialties of the Taiwanese who are not expanding in recent years
The tea egg you eat is not pickled well, so the taste is very light, and the surface of the perfectly pickled tea egg will have the color of tea, and even the texture of marble (cracks in the eggshell), and the taste will be very good
My dude..... "Man tou" and "bao zi" are both buns but you'll get very different things when you order. "Man tou" are ALWAYS steamed buns that have no fillings. "Man tou" is one of the main carbs the Chinese have in their diet. It's either rice, noodles, flat bread (bing) or "man tou" as a main. A more gritty version of a "man tou" is a "wo wo tou" but that is a whole different story for another day. "Bao zi" literally translates as "little wraps" - "bao" here meaning wrapped. "Zi" is added to signify it being small, little, petit, etc. "Bao zi" always comes with filling. It's a "man tou" with little bits of goodies wrapped inside it. Every Chinese family will have their own take on the fillings inside the "bao zi" making them unique and worth the experience. Enjoy your time in China.
This has been a very fun and educational comment haha feel like we need to sit down and learn about all the breads and the meanings, they are honestly incredible

Very nice video for some basic Chinese breakfasts that foreign visitors can try. For soy milk, it actually has a salty version which is also fantastic. In addition, please note that the soy milk you can find from the street is way much better than you can find in the West in a bottle.
Your translation device is just like google translate. When you ask the vendor which is his favorite, it asks which steam bread/bun w/ no filling (mantou). I think you meant to ask which baozi or stuffed steam buns.
Shao Mai is traditional Chinese dimsum, unfortunately, in America they either couldn't or make in very bad quality, of course, the price is so much more expensive as well
