The kindness and generosity of the Chinese is underrated. A few months ago in Shanghai, my husband and I were figuring out how to pay for the metro. We asked the girl next to us for help. She not only paid for our tickets (refused payment), she was on the same train and also made sure we got off at the right station! I was blown away. There's little or no chance I or any Aussie would do the same for her in Australia.

He said if you are interested in history, culture and nature, then China is the best and that was 20yrs ago. Today China is safe, modern , clean, high tech and has the best infrastructure in the world . Unfortunately many young people here in Aust has been brain washed by the media and they have negative view about China and refuse to visit this amazing country, I guess is their loss.

As others have mentioned, the Harbin Ice Festival is coming up. Don’t miss it if you can-it's truly a unique experience that you won’t find anywhere else in the world. However, it’s very cold, so I’d recommend planning your trip well in advance. Once you arrive, consider buying clothing locally-it’s better suited to the local climate and much cheaper!
While you’re there, you can enjoy the special morning markets, indulge in all-day or even overnight saunas, experience the special winter fish harvest festival, and, of course, savor the local cuisine. There’s so much to explore and enjoy. I hope you get a chance to visit!

@@EoinandAisling hi guys, i have a theory on why chinese people as immigrants to other countries in the west can be friendly and it's quite sad. I think it's because unfortunately, asian people and other POC were historically and to some degree still are marginalised, mocked and just overall poorly treated in western countries and that understandably does something to a human's psyche. Not to mention copping racism, discrimination and experiencing serious assault. It make any human less open, defensive, less gregarious and unfortunately that's how I think a fair few asian people feel in the west.
It's gotten better over the decades but one detects that it is still socially acceptable to disrespect, condescend to and make fun of asian people (including south asians meaning indian people) in a way that it isn't towards other ethnic groups.
and on the flipside, it makes total sense to me that chinese people in their own motherland - and that goes for any ethnic group - are a lot happier, comfortable, open, hospitable...they're in their own country, surrounded by their own people, familiarity and feel some level of social support. Also, east and south-asiann countries are really safe on balance i would say, in comparison to western countries, so that allows you to let your guard down even more when in asia.
i think what's also key is that asian people who've never visited a western country have their perceptions of western people coloured by hollywood and other western media which puts white people in a good light. Their impression is that westerners are "gentlemanly", "elegant", "well-mannered", etc. and whilst this may apply to some, there's obviously nuance to the range of behaviours that applies to not only westerners but any human. If they ever visit a western country, the reality may be different for them.
regarding the stereotypes and experiences people have had with large chinese tourist groups travelling the world, let's face it, any large travel group is going to be annoying because that's just the nature of large groups and crowds.

Really glad to know you enjoyed yourselves in China. My suggestion for the time to visit China: Avoid summer vacation period, which is typically from mid July to late August. Another period you should avoid is Oct 1st - Oct 8, during which is the natinal day celebration.

October is considered the "golden month" because temperatures are not too hot or too cold. BUT the MOST important part is do NOT travel at the official Chinese holidays because at that moment almost EVERYONE is free and the traffic, congestion is enormous. The most comfortable times are during weekdays when most people are at school or at work and like I already mentioned NOT at any of the official holidays.

Funny thing is that everytime you come back to China, a lot of the things will change, so a lot of the things said from vloggers would not be very accurate in the near future.
The good thing is that you know that the changes in infrastructure will always going to be better and better with each visit, and I can only say that about China, no other country comes near
