I was at this game. Brolin gets a bad rap from Leeds fans generally, but I think that he was harshly treated. He was never really given a fair crack by HW in my opinion. In this game he, Yeboah and Deane were excellent. Brolin's weight was often used as a rod to beat him with. However, in this game he is, clearly, far from being out of shape. He gained weight after being side-lined by HW, who preferred playing Frank Strandli, which was enough to make any self respecting forward player lose confidence and gain weight. If I remember correctly, Brolin was substituted with about ten minutes to go in this game. I couldn't quite understand why. He was doing 'keepy-uppies' at one point, much to the delight of the crowd. HW never did like entertainers, so perhaps that was the reason he was substituted. I believe that he now owns a shoe business! Edit: Frank Strandli left in 94. Phil Masinga and Ian Rush (vintage model) kept him out of the side. Equally perplexing.

I've never understood how a squad with that talent in it could finish 13th., with 43 points, and if I recall, only something like five or six points above relegation. McAllister, Speed, Brolin, Yeboah, Deane, Kelly, Wallace, Masinga, Lukic, Radebe, Palmer. Possibly it was lack of depth in the squad. Wilkinson definitely erred in my view by selling Whelan and Sharp, and in an earlier season, Batty. I think this was the season when Newcastle were challenging and their manager, Keegan, went into that rant after Ferguson goaded Leeds about their performance in the return match at Old Trafford, saying they should be a top 5 team (he was correct in that observation, anyway).
Yes this was the Keegan "I'd luv it'' season! Shame that the so called 'O'Leary babies' were not a year older at this point because Wilko would have started to use them by giving them game time. I'm convinced that Wilko would have landed us a title late 90's early 2000's? @@maratonlegendelenemirei3352 Yes, never understood how Wilkinson could be sacked on footballing grounds. @@TomRogersOnline Yes that's true, George could have led Leeds to the title around 1999,2000, as he certainly had the experience. I have no idea why George took a massive step down by joining Spurs?
