    I was at this game. Brolin gets a bad rap from Leeds fans generally, but I think that he was harshly treated. He was never really given a fair crack by HW in my opinion. In this game he, Yeboah and Deane were excellent. Brolin's weight was often used as a rod to beat him with. However, in this game he is, clearly, far from being out of shape. He gained weight after being side-lined by HW, who preferred playing Frank Strandli, which was enough to make any self respecting forward player lose confidence and gain weight. If I remember correctly, Brolin was substituted with about ten minutes to go in this game. I couldn't quite understand why. He was doing 'keepy-uppies' at one point, much to the delight of the crowd. HW never did like entertainers, so perhaps that was the reason he was substituted. I believe that he now owns a shoe business!
    Edit: Frank Strandli left in 94. Phil Masinga and Ian Rush (vintage model) kept him out of the side. Equally perplexing.

    I've never understood how a squad with that talent in it could finish 13th., with 43 points, and if I recall, only something like five or six points above relegation. McAllister, Speed, Brolin, Yeboah, Deane, Kelly, Wallace, Masinga, Lukic, Radebe, Palmer. Possibly it was lack of depth in the squad. Wilkinson definitely erred in my view by selling Whelan and Sharp, and in an earlier season, Batty. I think this was the season when Newcastle were challenging and their manager, Keegan, went into that rant after Ferguson goaded Leeds about their performance in the return match at Old Trafford, saying they should be a top 5 team (he was correct in that observation, anyway).

    • @maratonlegendelenemirei3352
      @maratonlegendelenemirei3352 2 года назад +1

      Yes this was the Keegan "I'd luv it'' season! Shame that the so called 'O'Leary babies' were not a year older at this point because Wilko would have started to use them by giving them game time. I'm convinced that Wilko would have landed us a title late 90's early 2000's? Such a shame he was sacked because the good times were just around the corner of 1996 and Wilko had the experience for a title tilt against Ol Bacon Face.

    • @TomRogersOnline
      @TomRogersOnline 2 года назад +1

      @@maratonlegendelenemirei3352 Yes, never understood how Wilkinson could be sacked on footballing grounds. It was clearly a Caspian decision, as they had already lined up George Graham pre-season and were paying him a retainer! Mind you, the second worst decision of the club was to then let George Graham talk to Spurs in 1998. Graham could have been a great Leeds manager and probably would have averted the financial collapse due to his more conservative approach to the transfer market, etc.

    • @maratonlegendelenemirei3352
      @maratonlegendelenemirei3352 2 года назад

      @@TomRogersOnline Yes that's true, George could have led Leeds to the title around 1999,2000, as he certainly had the experience. I have no idea why George took a massive step down by joining Spurs? It could only have been because he wanted to wind up Arsenal over his fat brown envelopes sacking? Silly man for holding a grudge.

      Maybe you would prefer pitches (cow fields) like the old Baseball Ground?

      Man United have been doing bad against relegation zone candidates. Even Burnley held them to a draw

      Mandela Effect. What actually happened is that Yeboah got an own goal, Cantona cried in front of the Leeds fans and asked to be brought back to Elland Road and forgiven, and Keane got into a fight with Brolin over who took the half-time cheeseburgers (Keane vowed to get Brolin the following season).

    Eric cantona must of been totally hated at elland road for moving to man utd
    One of the best grounds in 1990s was elland road, the epl did not have many real good away grounds you went too, but elland road was one, upton park was another back then
    ie your team would go there and the home fans would just hate that team, and really get behind there team, and no matter the result, if the team gave everything they were fine with that.
    Leeds had a good team back then, and there home stadium was excellent, just pure hatred for other teams playing there, like upton park.
    Such grounds are not around anymore.
    Elland road in 1990s was class, you would listen to your team playing there on radio station, and the hate the home fans would have for your team was intense. Same at upton park. You could just feel the enormous hate on the radio listening.
    Those days are gone.
    What english football used to be.
    I doubt elland road is like that today, and upton park is gone.
