    In Batman The Animated Series Bruce Wayne is the one paying for Gotham Penitentiary, so he's at least partially to blame for the prison system that keeps dumping criminals back on the street.

    • @HovektheArtist
      @HovektheArtist 3 года назад +15

      In btas he is paying for upgrades to black gate penitiary, which has held criminals including black mask, for their full sentence. Archambault is where most of the villains are sent and in btas as Bruce he worked to get arkham closed and an actual asylum built, which happened by the time of beyond.
      So in btas he actively paid for black gate to become one of the most secure prisons, and by the time of beyond had fixed the arkham issue which led to the actual rehabilitation of quite a few of his rogues.

    • @djquinn4825
      @djquinn4825 8 лет назад +37

      Draven What made it work here was that they used Micheal, whose character is well intentioned (though somewhat morally ambiguous) but crude and not too smart. If Soren, whose character is made to be a narcissistic, goal oriented, opinionated, smart jock, said it it would be much worse, because, unlike Michael, you expect better from him. If Katie said it it would just seem weird because you wouldn't expect it from her at all. Katie's character is a combination of traits found in the other 3. She's just as opinionated as Soren and almost as pervy as Michael, but is as awkward as Dan is about most stuff when she expresses that perversion so she doesn't do it unless it comes up. And, while not to say she doesn't contribute just as much as the other 3 because she does, she's meant as a token female perspective. Just so there are no misunderstandings, I say characters because, as these are scripted sketches, they are portraying fictional versions of themselves.

Mr Freeze, Scarecrow, The Riddler, Poison Ivy, Hugo Strange, Firefly, Penguin, Victor Zazz, Ra’s Al Ghul, Professor Pig, Deacon Blackfire, Bane and Mad Hatter are all completely separate. Only villains that Batman caused were Arkham Knight, Hush and debatably The Joker and Harley Quinn based on which version.

      Bryce Villalobos Not necessarily . If the villains are still able to break out of a more high tech and advanced prison, it would make the story actually more interesting. Out of all the people in the asylums that break out regularly, it makes you question "how can these criminally insane people have the brain power to break out of a super asylum?" It makes you wonder how mental these patients actually are. At least that's how I look at it.

    • @arturodejesuscruzcasab9502
      @arturodejesuscruzcasab9502 7 лет назад +12

      Not really, look at the Punisher, he's plowed through thousands of criminals and NY is still a hell hole, heck, in fact, Marvel Max's New York as well as 616's New York are way more dangerous than actual New York.
      Batman on the other hand, actually got crime in Gotham under control for over a year before his death (after which all hell broke lose because criminals saw this as their big chance), this is, no super freaks attacking the city, no mass murderers going on killing rampages, keeping the mobsters and gangs down and cowered in fear, and he did all of this without taking a single life.

    • @arturodejesuscruzcasab9502
      @arturodejesuscruzcasab9502 7 лет назад +13

      And even then, Gotham pre-Batman was worse than Gotham post-Batman, and this is aknowledged by several people, but Gotham is just a fucking hell hole, it's got twice the crime other cities have and it's criminals are way more violent, they have always been, even in collonial times Gotham was awful, but the Batman has been twice more effective in fighting crime than the Punisher.
      Also, about killing the high profile ones, you should bear in mind that most of the major leagues criminals in Gotham are usually mentaly ill people product of their awful life circumstances. Killer croc was beaten as a child, kept locked in a closet and then sold as a Circus freak until he escaped; Harley Quinn was manipulated by the Joker, Mr. Freeze just wants to save his wife, Two-Face was Batman's first ally in Gotham and Harvey Dent and Two-Face are two different personalities, going as far as one of them doing things without the other remembering them. These are people who mostly aren't able to control their own actions. It's not like Metropolis or Keystone in which most of the criminals are able minded individuals who end up in penitentiary insititutions, in Gotham they go to an Asylum.

    Lawyer here.
    Batman killed Two-Face as means of self-defense and to protect others. That is the very definition of "justifiable homicide". It's the one use of legitimate force.
    He lied about the circumstances later, but why? To give other people hope, even if that means painting himself as the villain.
    That's pretty self-less and good-oriented, if you ask me.

    • @JunkPoster
      @JunkPoster 9 лет назад +12

      He also claimed responsibility for all the killings from Dent because Harvey previously put many, many criminals in prison, and if Dent had been the reason for those killings, the prisoners would be let-back out (if I'm not mistaken).

      @DrWolfenstein313 9 лет назад +2

      We're discussing phillosophy here. Because what's lawful may not be what's fair, that's exactly what the judge must value. The law is a word that must be adjusted to each case.
      The Dent Act, once it's passed as law, is fair game to jail criminals even if the circumstances of Dent's death come to be known.
      We'd have to discuss "what's justice? What's lawful? What's fair? What's the spirit of the Lawmaker when he coded these rules? Are we following it with this conduct?"
      I think that the main questions lie there.

      Eric Anthem You're not going to believe this, but yesterday a friend and I went to the Chicago art museum, and I was telling her how I'm writing my very own After Hours episode that I hope to submit. But she was totally unfamiliar with the show, so the very first episode I showed her was the one you just mentioned because she unapologetically loves Keanu Reeves. Go figure. I'm not even kidding.
      But here's my thoughts on that episode: soren's claim that action or save the world movies are a form of wish-fulfillment from the audience is true, at least to me. Who wants to be the loser or the sidekick in those movies, regardless who we realistically identify with? Most of us want to be the hero. I actively enjoy RUclips commenting, but I have no other social media connections - zero. But Katie was right about how Facebook and Twitter is our own personal Truman show, the distinction being that we have more control over our content and the presentation.
      It was actually funny how Daniel delivered the begining thesis but the rest of the gang offered the support, despite Daniel's opposition.

Yes, sir, the textbook definition of a vigilante is "Vigilantes typically see the government as ineffective in enforcing the law; such individuals often claim to justify their actions as a fulfillment of the wishes of the community". But, my point is that Batman (The Batman) did not start wanting justice. He wanted revenge for this parents' death. Later, he did it for "justice".

    Does Batman in fact make things worse for Gotham? I say he does.
    Think about this: Before Batman, Gotham was riddled with organized crime families. While that is definitely nothing to ignore and is certainly a terrible and dangerous thing, it is still something the GCPD can handle. Can they handle any of Batman's rogue gallery? No. No, they cannot. Furthermore, not only can the police handle them, but the organized crime families aren't bent on destroying Gotham or randomly killing people or making plants take over the city or spreading fear gas all over the city or whatever other crazy schemes Batman villains come up with. They want the same thing evey crime family wants. Money and power. They don't kill random civilians for no good reason. Batman's villains do.
    So, along comes Batman, trying to make things better. He cleans up the regular gangster families in about a year's time. What comes in their place? A bunch of crazy, unpredictable, vastly more dangerous villains that have no problem killing civilians. And why do that want that? Because of Batman. They want to get back at him. People like Joker, Penguin, Scarecrow, Poison Ivy, Mister Freeze, Two-Face etc. People the police can't handle on their own. And since Batman won't kill any of them, he HAS to stay around because he's the only one who can stop them.
    In short: I don't doubt Batman's intentions are good, but by showing up and getting rid of normal crime, he inadvertently launched a series of even worse criminals that he refuses to kill, forcing him to stay in his role of vigilante.

    • @SanvelloSerapiega
      @SanvelloSerapiega 9 лет назад +16

      the crime families in the comics bribed the police and there was no way the police was going to handle them and not to mention their would still be quite a bit of comic book criminals like the court of owls, the league of assassains, freeze and more(that gotham would need to deal with on top of gangs). And there have several opportunities for the public of gotham to kill villains, by giving them the death penalty properly or building a sufficient prison system or several of the criminals just need one good shot from the pd but they usually just cant because the pd sucks at there job mostly.
      The fact batman doesnt want to kill anyone is entirely fine considering several villians often so redeeming traits or habits like freeze only being motivated by his dying wife or ivy saving kids from an earthquake also trying avoiding criminal activites or leaving gotham to live in a rainforest peacefully until it gets destroyed by someone unrealated to batman or man-bat being an accident and he knows he shouldnt be the one who chooses who lives and dies

    • @carolynfrancis5375

      Mr. Freeze would have existed without Batman, The Penguin would have existed without Batman, the Falcone family would have existed without Batman, Two-Face (depending on which version you use) would have existed without Batman, Poison Ivy would exist without Batman, Man-Bat would have existed without Batman, Mad Hatter would have existed without Batman, Scarecrow would have existed without Batman. Look, as much as I despise Batman, Gotham would be screwed without him, just like America would be screwed without a Military to keep it safe.

    • @Xylarxcode
      @Xylarxcode 9 лет назад +20

      Carolyn Francis
      Long rant incoming:
      -Mr Freeze isn't really that interested in fighting the cops or causing chaos. He's interested in curing his wife, even if that means going down the criminal path. The cops may not be able to stop him from going after whatever it is he wants, but once he has it, he'll stop bothering them and focus on working on the cure. And without Batman, he doesn't have to resort to any crazy superweapons, thus sparing the city from much of the damage he would otherwise cause.
      -Penguin is a black markets dealer. Cops have ways of taking care of people like that. If anything, Batman's interference is preventing them from successfully infiltrating Penguin's operation since he'll be more paranoid and less willing to reveal anything worthwhile to new people. And without Batman, he wouldn't have to stretch his smuggling operations to such extremes and he'd be less on his guard, thus making him easier to catch.
      -The Falcone family is a normal mafia family that was already a problem before Batman arrived on the scene. Nothing would change here. Batman or no Batman, they're still up to their usual business. This is what cops are for.
      -Two-Face is crazy. Who knows what he'd do without Batman. If he causes enough ruckus, they'd eventually call in the big guns, like SWAT or whoever you call for people like him, roll up his gang and he'd probably end up getting killed in a bloody shootout or in an assassination. If anything, Batman is the reason Two-Face is still a problem. Normal cops would have probably killed him long ago and Gotham's public would have probably supported that decision.
      -Poison Ivy is a tricky one. She's the only one with actual superpowers (in most versions). She's not really evil, either. Just overly fond of plant and less then fond of people. They can't stop her, but I'm sure Ivy doesn't want to spend the rest of her life fighting off people that hate her either. She'd eventually go away to the rainforest or wherever, jsut to have some peace and be with her plants. Again, as with so many villains, revenge on Batman and the idea of being the one that finally beats him is most likely the only reason she's still going at it.
      -Man-Bat is something the normal police can't handle, but he's hardly a threat to army forces. A team of special forces who are aware of his abilities can most likely take him out and would probably kill him in the process. Again, Batman doesn't kill, thus giving Manbat a reason to stick around and seek revenge. Manbat has some powers, but on his own he is definitely no match for military forces. They should be able to handle him.
      -Mad Hatter is just a deranged serial killer, who would be handled like any other serial killer. They sic the FBI on him, they study the case and all the details and they eventually catch and analyze him. They don't need Batman for him. I'll grant you that Batman would probably find him faster and deal with him with less casualties, but they can take care of it.
      -Scarecrow uses the same tactics over and over again. Fear gas and confusion. And is mostly driven to do so out of seeking revenge against Batman. No Batman, no revenge. What are his motivations? Mostly to seek out the greatest fears of people with interesting profiles. Individuals. He'd probably be like a very elusive mercenary with very effective killing/disabling methods. Sure, still a problem, but without Batman, he doesn't want to gas the whole of Gotham. He just want to revel in his psychotic little fetish world.
      The police may not be able to handle most of them, but without Batman they wouldn't be nearly as crazy or as obsessed and dangerous as they are. Because Batman pushes himself to such extremes and goes to such great lengths, he forces the criminals to keep up. They have to step up their game, because they know how dangerous Batman is. Without Batman around, they wouldn't have to resort to anything nearly as crazy or as dangerous because there's no one to compete with. Batman is what makes them so dangerous. Especially because he won't kill. If the cops were to ever find a way to get to one of these villains, they'd kill them for sure. If not by pulling a trigger, then by putting them on deathrow or through other means, such as manipulating the system to put two of them that really hate each other in the same cell and accidentally leaving a weapon behind. Guaranteed there's only one walking out, but from there point of view that's -1 dangerous criminal. Not very moral or legal, but that wouldn't stop them.
      I don't doubt that Batman wants what's best for Gotham and fights for the right cause, but unfortunately for him, his methods and means keep biting him in the ass and always come back to haunt him. Gotham is in fact better off without him.

    • @SanvelloSerapiega
      @SanvelloSerapiega 9 лет назад +6

      Xylarxcode freeze used super weapons anyways before bats ever got involved and sides his freeze gun is easier to care for assuming the person could get the victim unfrozen rather than gun shots to the face and his suit is powered by diamonds unless he got a donor he is gonna be a lifelong criminal
      Penguin bribes police officers and public officials its the only real reason the police struggle with inflitrating him. with bmans effects on the criminal world he stretches penguins supplies more thinly making his capability stretched thin. this makes it easier for the police to deal with him not the opposite because without bman penguin would be paranoid of the police at least bman diverts his attention
      The standard mob wasnt really handled by the police in gotham they did the whole bribing thing
      Two-face isnt that big of a deal. He's no joker he probably could be handled by normal gotham before things got to extreme. Batman really just prolongs the inevitable with harvey
      Ivy hates gotham due to other people in the bman comics. for example she did exactly what you said she probably do (she goes and makes a paradise) and it was attacked by a corporation entirely unrelated to bman reigniting her whole "stop industrialization and its pollution and habitat destruction by being a violent hippie" thing she isnt (usually) just some revenge character when it comes to bman
      Manbat is most often just an innocent guy and that is pretty much a were-bat not an actual bad guy (the revenge thing is pointless considering its batman trying to be nice and kirk would prefer he would stop him) if gotham really wanted to stop him permanently they could just shoot him as kirk as a militant solution would result in several unnecessary deaths and property damage
      as you said bman handles madhatter better
      Crane would still be a psychotic man who could attack all of gotham as he became the scarecrow for power and his affinity to fear not batman not to mention without bman he wouldnt of been stopped because their isnt a way the police could really handle an all out scarecrow
      This isnt including the other super criminals of gotham bman would have to stop
      also criminals would compete agaisnt themselves gotham was always going to escalate even with a lazy police force and in a world with criminals that can freeze people inflict fear on others and control the wildlife that would be the type of stuff they would escalate from not a weirdo in a costume
      now batman has caused some problems in gotham namely the entire knightfall story arc which occured because his affinity for bats brought bane to gotham to kill him in which bane destroyed arkham making the mess to much for all of gotham and bman and then batman unobjectiveness blocking him from making the right choice
      you could blame the joker on bman (an accident mind you) through his unconfirmed and unreliable testimony but that is unrealiable
      Batman came in response to an escalation of crime as did criminals escalate to bman. At least in the escalation the end result is better than the before picture where police are corrupt and the mob has near total control heck in some stories just seeking reform is what gets the Wayne parents killed before bman even with super criminals gotham is better than what it was before. How about the fact that most batman villains exist because of batman (joker, twoface, razz) or because Bruce Wayne is neglecting his company (riddler, freeze, ivy). If he never became batman the only crime in Gotham would be normal street crime which the police can deal with.

      Ra's Al-Ghul is an immortal ninja bent on destroying Gotham. He pre-dates Batman, and would be way too much for the police to handle.
      Then you've got Killer Croc, The Penguin, Bane, to name but a few, who would be nearly unstoppable, had there been no Batman....
      Then you've got professional assassins like Deadshot and Deathstroke.

      In this case, I'm looking at Batman Begins.
      He sees Gotham as a symbol of corruption because the crime rate is so absurdly high (which also by the way justifies Batman's existence...). In that sense, he's basically a vigilante zealot, who's going WAY too far...
      Of course, that's just the Nolanverse. Ra's' motivations in the comics are harder to pin down because there's eighty bajillion different timelines and stories in there...

    He could just kill the Joker and other criminals who obviously cannot be contained. But no, his stupid moral code about not killing keeps him from doing the ONE THING that would actually make Gotham better. Ironic, ain't it? Talking about the greater good when he won't even kill a few bad people for the greater good.

    • @kyleflanagan963
      @kyleflanagan963 8 лет назад +16

      +ShadeSlayer1911 An argument that everyone always loves to bring out that I personally don't buy. Batman exists in a perpetually morally grey world. He is a hero and he saves people, but he acts outside the law and takes the law into his own hands. We allow this for two reasons, the first because the law system of Gotham is so corrupt that it is no longer just, with cops, judges, and people at every other level of this system all owned by the criminal underground. The law is lawless, therefore you need a lawless man to save Gotham.
      However the second reason that Batman, despite being morally grey, is firmly on the side of good, is that while he might operate outside the law, he is still held to an absolute moral standard that he cannot break. Since he is the most powerful force in Gotham, unstoppable by both the corrupt law and the criminals, he must be held to the most stringent moral standards or else he becomes a tyrant. If you state that Batman has the authority to kill the Joker, that he can make that decision himself, then he has the authority to kill anyone that he wants. Can he kill Harvey Dent? Can he kill Mr. Freeze? How about a corrupt Judge that is bailing out drug dealers and directly contributing to the deaths of citizens? A random mugger on the street?
      Maybe Batman SHOULD kill the Joker, but it doesn't matter because he doesn't have the authority to make that choice. Would it potentially save lives in the future? Almost certainly. Would it lead to the most good overall if you only look at that specific act in a vacuum? Yeah, that's probably true to. But just like how a policeman doesn't have the right to execute a dangerous criminal because "the world would be better without this guy in it", so Batman also doesn't have the authority to decide which of his villains live and which of them die.

    • @ShadeSlayer1911
      @ShadeSlayer1911 8 лет назад +5

      Kyle Flanagan At the end of the day, results are all that matter. If he can't actually fix all the crime and corruption in Gotham, it doesn't matter what his moral reasons are for not killing.
      He's a smart guy. He knows what he's doing. He knows that by allowing these criminals to live, he won't actually come any closer to solving crime and corruption in Gotham. And so he willingly allows innocent people to die at the hands of supervillains, people that he is supposed to be protecting. Why? Some moral reasons about not being the executioner. Do you think the families of the dead victims of these criminals will care why Batman let their loved ones die? Absolutely not. Would they instead be happier if their loved ones were saved by the self-appointed guardian of Gotham at the cost of a few dead criminally insane and evil criminals? Absolutely yes.
      And Bruce knows all this, but he doesn't care. At best, he can't actually bring himself to do what is necessary for moral reasons, or for fear of turning to the dark side, in which case, he should step down as Batman and save the city as Bruce via money. At worst, he is allowing crime to exist on purpose, so he will have a reason to beat up people and soothe his violent urges, a symptom of his childhood trauma and sociopathy.
      You might oppose "means for an end" approach, but at the end of the day, a true hero is someone who is able to do what is necessary to do good and stop suffering. If Batman can't do that, then he's not a real hero. He's just a guy beating people up with no real results in stopping crime effectively.
      So, he's either a terrible hero or actually a selfish villain. Either way, it's not looking good for the caped crusader.

    • @TAOBIAF
      @TAOBIAF 8 лет назад +3

      +Kyle Flanagan by not killing the Joker, Batman allows the Joker to continuously put the lives of Gothan dwellers in danger and yes even kill a numerous amount of other people every time he escapes from any containment

    • @nickwalker7850
      @nickwalker7850 8 лет назад +5

      +ShadeSlayer1911 Yeah, but you're implying he DOES have the right to make the choice. And as he's made clear in the comics, he has an immensely hard time refraining from killing. But look at where he's coming from, his family DIED because a poor guy lashed out in fear and anger at the world, and killed his parents in an attempt to grab some cheap cash. He KNOWS what that kind of anger, that kind of violence does to people. So he is completely and utterly HORRIFIED at the idea of killing.
      A bad hero, yes. But only because he never pledged to be the hero, the guy who makes the sacrifice (by killing Joker). He's just happened to have his life patterned around those circumstances that lead to him being in the right place to HELP OUT, as much as he can.
      He's not fully a hero, just part of a much larger team, in the struggling Gotham Justice System.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. I think at this point we can all agree that batman has lost it.

    • @shamwaw336
      @shamwaw336 10 лет назад +2

      lusamba katende I wouldn't be surprised if the Joker would like batman to kill him. Killing him would undermine everything batman stood for and could possibly cause batman to finally break. To Joker, that could be his final joke, to prove to batman that he was just fooling himself and it's a "joke" to believe in mankind. In the comic "Killing Joke" it made a reference that they must do it "right" or joker was correct. Same thing happened in the movie The Dark Knight, Joker proved that it was a joke to think that Harvey Dent will save Gotham cause he could easily be broken like everybody else. Killing the Joker would be good, I guess, but something must have cause batman to go over the edge to do that. Then, we might see a batman version of superman who got corrupt in "Injustice: Gods Among Us".

      There was actually a comic that got turned into a direct to tv animation, based on i think earth-31, where Batman was a little more grimdark, and had killed a few times. But eventually retired. The Joker then went into a catatonic state for years, until word of Batman returned. He then ends up on a talk show, kills everyone there, including the audience, and leads an aged batman on a chase through a fair. More die, until a final confrontation in the tunnel of love. Joker proclaims victory, cause he made Batman 'lose control.' And when batman wouldn't end them, Joker snapped his own neck to frame Batman for murder.

  • @Furzkampfbomber

    The problem with Batman is that he is a psychopath who is totally turned on by being in danger and by running around in costumes. This is why he always lets the big villains live. Not only that, he even takes care that they are not locked up in some high security prison, but in Arkham Asylum, which is virtually a revolving door for villains.
    I mean, moral high ground? Not killing anyone? As if. He even has sex with Black Canary in front of a burning pile of henchmen. Henchmen he just killed. But killing the _really_ bad guys, the guys who have already killed a million people? Noooo, of course not. Because by doing so, he would remove the excuse he needs to run around in a costume and put himself in danger.

    • @LastLaughStudios
      @LastLaughStudios 9 лет назад +3

      Okay you're getting a couple of things WAY way off here.
      If Bruce didn't want Arkham to be an efficient mental health facility he wouldn't spend so much money trying to FUND them, in many iterations of the character he gives tons of money to Arkham, including but not limited to even giving them security technology, the problem in the workings lies in the staff, not the policy, they just don't give a shit and sadly, that actually happens a lot in real hospitals.
      Secondly, Batman doesn't send them anywhere, the courts/doctors do because a good number of Batmans rogues gallery are batshit insane, and many still DO go to Blackgate Prison, which mind you has about the same track record with how many people they can actually keep an eye on for a given amount of time. While Joker, Ivy, Croc, Two Face, Clayface and others indeed go to Arkham that's because they have mental issues that would make the word severe seem like an understatement. Villains like Black Mask, Deadshot, and other more Organized crime villains however go to Blackgate.
      I like having conversations on Bruces effectiveness as Batman, even sometimes taking the position that he's actually a disservice to the city more than a help to it but he has absolutely NO say in who's insane and goes to a hospital verses who's sane and goes to prison, nor does he have the say in who lives or who dies and he knows it no matter how big of a monster he comes up against.

      ***** You are right, but I might say to my defense that I lost track of which DC storyline took place in which universe and which is deemed canon in which context.
      And it does not change the fact that the early Batman had not problem whatsoever to "accidentally" kill henchman or, much later, to let an opponent starve to death, but never harmed any of his main opponents.
      And honestly, I appreciate his general "no deadly force" approach, he is not the Punisher. But then again he _knows_ with whom he is dealing with, he _knows_ that for instance the Joker is capable of killing without indisrimination and I wonder if he does not feel responsible in some ways.
      I am not saying that Batman should just kill the guy, but he made it clear that he gives a crap about the law when he deems it incapable of protecting innocents and I am sure he could surely find ways to lock up the Joker more permanently.
      darkservantofheaven You are right as well, All-Star Batman is a complety jerk and he -might not be- is not the best example. But other versions of Batman were not especially nice either. All I am saying is that Batman occasionally showed a surprising disregard of henchmens lifes, while never really killing any of his main foes.

      Furzkampfbomber When exactly is Batman ever been meant to be "nice" (excluding the Adam West) I chalk the "henchmen dying, but main foe living" to bad writing. I'm just gonna put it this way, I have no problem with the idea of Batman using deadly force, but only if its a last resort.
      its one of the reasons I prefer Oliver Queen over Bruce Wayne. I'm talking about in the comics and outside the comics. Oliver has been written as a better business man than Bruce (as well as Tony) and has used his family's company funds to both fix Star City through programs as well as The Green Arrow.
      Green Arrow gets called a batman ripoff alot, and yea he was, but hes a far nicer and more aproachable batman. Okay yea, The "Arrow Car" and the Arrowcave are incredibly stupid terms. And Bruce has far better training than Oliver as well as a much more infamous Rogues Gallery and some much better or more interesting Storylines (I only recently started reading Green Arrow comics from the past after I got into the Justice League Cartoon and the Arrow TV series, so sue me)
      But Oliver is far more aproachable hero as the Green Arrow, and unlike batman, Oliver has no problem Killing if it means to save a life of a citizen. And he knows that Dark place Bruce spoke of in the Under The Redhood Story line if he allowed himself to kill. Considering that Oliver had to kill to survive the Island (this is mostly in the TV series, not sure about the comics)

      My comment was never about Batman being "nice", because as you say it, he never was. He never had problems beating the living shit out of people, breaking bones and disarticulating joints.
      But Batman himself, a huge parts of the writing as well as the movies (especially the movies) are celebrating his "never use deadly force" approach and many people never stop to point out that Batman never kills. Which is not true.
      I totally agree with your opinion about Oliver Queen/Green Arrow and I really like how the tv-show is depicting the development of his character. After leaving the island, he is hurt and incredibly angry and in the beginning he is all like "screw it, they've had it coming". He had to _learn_ that going on a rampage uncontrolled might not be the best approach and in the end will damage himself even more.
      In more than one way his character development and the way he behaves is far more healthy.
      Batman on the other hand, and this is my main point and problem with him, never really learned to cope with what happened to him. In a way, he is a total psycho. As one comic I've once read said... if he developes further in this direction, he might end up sitting in the dark, breaking the necks of little kittens and growling the names of his enemies.
      He gives a rats ass about the rules, as long as he can find a "higher reason" to excuse his next rampage.
      And my personal little theory is that this is the exact reason why Bruce Wayne utterly fails to create a better Gotham with all his money, why Batman fails to put a real end to his arch enemies evil activities and why he handles them with kid gloves in comparison to their henchmen.
      In a way he behaves like a bloody junkie. He needs all this crap as an outlet for his own inner pressure. He _can't_ really put an end to this, because that would be like a heroin addict burning down a poppy field.
      Oliver Queen/Green Arrow knows that in certain situations he has no other choice than to kill, but he does not kill only the henchmen and allows the big players to walk free in the end. He behaves rational.
      Hell, even the Punisher, as messed up; brutal; cynical and close-minded as he can be, acts more honest; rational and consequent as Bruce Wayne/Batman does.

    Batman is a man who has recognized that his city government has failed and that, to literally save his city, he must fight the criminals the city cannot. Thinking him terrible for the few excesses he has committed--murder and unlawful surveillance--is unreasonable because any alternative law-enforcement system would eventually commit them, too.
    Furthermore, thinking him incompetent for not killing criminals and not enormously donating to crime-fighting and city-building is also unreasonable. Like Soren argues, Bruce Wayne knows that only his being Batman protects Gotham from destruction. Therefore, when Nightwing tells him to choose between Nightwing and Joker's lives, Batman justly saves both, saying that, "If I killed him... if I went to that place, I know I could never come back": killing Joker would make Batman a villain, dooming Gotham--perhaps to his wrath! This principle of not killing generalizes to the other villains, too. Also, Bruce Wayne cannot be Batman if dead and therefore cannot imperil himself by donating to the criminal justice system, whose prisoners might kill him to get free, again dooming Gotham. Finally, Batman has limited time, and doing philanthropy whilst maniacs pillage and slaughter is not an effective use thereof because many of them never were motivated by money but are simply criminally insane.
    Batman is not an aristocratic playboy looking to "work out his anger". His wanting vengeance so only inspired his pursuit of justice that he spared the gunman who murdered his parents. He lives without close friends and with a crushing secret, almost-lonely bearing the fear and pain of fighting every night. He risks his life for Gotham: what more could one ask?

      he created the criminals in the first place
      and every time he sticks to his non killing rule half the city dies and he doesn't use money to help gotham but go around playing dressup

      It is against the law to kill criminals if gotham citizens want to live safely they could execute those criminals themselves or drug them in the arkham until they turn into vegetables and pose no more treat.
      also batman only created Joker and only because he broke his rule of no killing criminals, batman failed to kill joker and here we have result.

      just because other government law systems would do that too that doesn't justify anything. You admitted yourself that the gotham's law enforcement failed. If you want to be a SUPERHERO or a HERO there is no such thing as the GREATER GOOD, you have to save everyone, without violating their rights. We can do the greater good thing as well, in a fight between 100 vs 100 people we can sacrafice the 25 to run away if shit hits the fan.. but is that justice? no. We might have been saved, but what about the others who had to pay for our freedom? Batman is just a rich asshole who thinks this is his city and he owns it, well guess what, this is everyone's city. His intentions might be good, but what good has he really done? he saved gotham a few times but he caused more trouble, if it wasn't for him beating the villains those guys wouldn't have gone so far to do the things they do to win against him and just be petty criminals (joker would just be a bank robber if the rest of the villains didn't hate batman) you see every time he kicks their ass and then wonders off, they come back with a bigger threat, he is the cause of this problem. He needs to not only ninja karate kid kick ass the villains but also secure them in prison as well, what good is it to put those people who almost destroyed an entire city in the local prison? are you out of your head? if you can't keep them as prisoners then there is literally no point of beating them.. literally. (expect for killing them)

      Not So Popular Dude
      That is pretty strange logic, but real life society is doing exactly sale thing. we catch petty criminals, who are not even harmful, like some marihuana users, put them in prison for short amount of time, ruin their lives completely and kick them out.
      Situation with batman is probably better because all criminals are just placed in that easy to escape asylum where they actually get help and they can leave almost anytime and continue to live as good people.
      Also batman cant send people to prison, because that is job for for court.
      If batmans was killing criminals I guess he would be killed too, it must be some kind of unwritten rules not to kill each other.

    I know I'm 10 years late, but I just realized Soren made a mistake: Batman didn't save the ferry boats -- the people themselves saved them by choosing not to blow up the other. Batman actually had nothing to do with their decision.
