It's a pretty good 90's suspense/thriller. I'd recommend it, just don't expect to be "blown away".

If Blown Away was released at least a few months before Speed, it would have fared much better. Admittedly when I first saw it as an 11yo in the cinema, I wasn't wrapped. But now years later the movie seems to be held in much higher steed. Whilst it isn't perfect and has a number of trivial plot holes, the story is much more grounded and the characters are more believable and dimensional than Speed.

The bomb activated by a lack of typing is barely different than The Critic's Speed parody ! 😂

Blown Away is more of a action/suspense thriller with an interesting back story and smidgeon of romance,
whereas Speed is an action thriller with an interesting romance and just a smidgeon of back story
(heroin lost her license and villain got lousy retirement gold watch, that's it).
In both movies, the hero stopped the villain's bomb from
killing some innocent people so now revenge is inevitable.
Both movies have the heroes risking their lives by a thread and even get beat up to try to rescue their leading ladies.
Blown Away has some parts very unlikely, whereas
    Speed has parts physically impossible.
the actors in both movies are great.
either movie - just don't hit the brakes.
between the two, to me, "Blown Away" wins by a Dolphin's tail.
Alan Silvestri's music throughout is great in Blown Away.

This movie was overlooked by CinemaSins. I hope they cover it one day, but I'd take sins off for Tommy Lee Jones' hammy villain performance, the scene in the house, and Alan Silvestri's music; his scores can make a bad movie seem good.

the abandoned ship that blew up at the end, was 2 blocks from my childhood home in East Boston, MA… i remember they put up boards to cover our windows, and i heard the explosions from my kitchen while eating cereal lol

I think this is one of the greatest thrillers of all times. Missing giant beasts from 20,000 fathoms or 20 million miles to earth it compares.

I love this film. The acting is good. The scenes are suspenseful. The Boston setting is used perfectly. The music is great. I don't compare it to Speed at all, very different movies.

There are these camera effects, pans of 180 to 200 degrees, and they pan the camera bobs, like if you were in the oceans. It is worth watching just for the camera effects.

Remember, they are just critics. They can be critical or give a critique. This one sounds more like the latter. What they described sort of resonates with me. I'm going to watch this film.

I definitely agree with the boys on this one. It was a BOMB. Speed was light years better. More exciting, better action, much better villain character. I am somewhat surprised they didn't mention how bad and miscast Jones is in this. He has the worst ever Irish brogue in a serious role only done worse by Tom Cruise in Far and Away.

  • @orlandobabe

"Wonderful" if you haven't seen any movies made before 1987 and don't mind bad acting, awful dialogue and plot holes the size of Wyoming.

I disagree with the critics. There are two pivotal scenes that give some credence to tommy lee's intricate, child like bombs. He goes to a yard sale and buys a marble toy for inspiration, and when he is in Liam's step daughter's room, he plays with all the toys.

Really great Action film from old good the 90's. God, I miss that time so much. Jeff Bridges shines here. Suzy Amis and Lloyd Bridges did a great job too. I guess Tommy Lee Jones was superb villain because you really hate him.
