My 9 yr old grandson and I have a collection of almost 100 Little Golden Books, mostly vintage. He loves helping me find them at thrift stores and yard sales. He has an appreciation for the illustrations and is a gifted reader. I cannot bring myself to cut the books apart!
I live the idea of taking something damaged and making it useful. There are collectable and rare copies but there also are mass produced books that may never have a good life, so to speak. I have damaged books and look forward to creating something special with them
Generally the formula used for handmade products I’ve used is: Cost of materials X 3 So with the cost of your book you are already at $18 and you have all your other materials to add in. Some of the products you may not have the exact costs, so guestimating is what I do. Also, there is the controversy over bargaining with a customer. I ascribe to the no negotiating. I do not change the prices from venue to venue. You may develop a following. I believe once a price is set it should only go up to avoid being shopped. If customers see you at one venue then at another with different prices they may say something like-‘I saw this item a month ago at _________ & it was such & such price . Why is it cheaper/more here?’ Then you may be trapped into a lower price to accommodate the customer OR get passed over. Losing customers. The increase over time is easier to explain. Cost of materials, etc. Of course there is the variable- what the market will bare or not selling do to over priced items. If things are not moving then you need to figure out how to do it cheaper and faster to accommodate a lower price or discontinue it. However, there are those items that don’t cost much but the market will support a higher price. In that case go with the market price. And yet there are those items you may choose to price at no profit or lose money to entice customers into your booth or store. Like the Costco $5 chicken; they lose money on the chicken to get you in the store because you are bound to buy other products.
As a book lover, I squeaked a little when you cut the book, but I really enjoyed seeing the process. I could see how I would personalize the booklets for myself. Lol. Thank you
I suspect many, like myself, who got into the JJ paper crafting hobby, were very uncomfortable when we found it involved the "deconstructing" books; especially book lovers and collectors of first editions like myself ! However, when I found out our local library's resale shop (library discards and donations from the community), as well as our local Good Will stores, send thousands of pounds of unsold second hand books each year to be burned and to local land fills. Once I understood that such used books are only offered for resale for a limited amount of time, and then destroyed... I realized that taking up this hobby would actually be preserving these books in a way, though "re-imagined" as journals.
I’m making these as christmas gifts for family this year! The women anyhow. It will hold Christmas cards and photos and maybe Christmas recipies I can add to it. What a great idea! I’m so excited to get started! Have a Great Day!
I love your process. The best I’ve seen. I’m definitely going to give it a try. I don’t even think $40 is enough. ...Your time, talent and the cost of materials.....Beautiful work. You’re more gifted than you know.❤️🌺❤️
Absolutely adorable! I love them! $40 would be sufficient but I understand craft shows. People think things should be cheap. But with everything you added plus the book is old counts for a lot!
Absolutely amazing. They are activity books, journals, scrapbook, kits etc…yes 33$ is fair. I love that you maintained the integrity of the little golden book
I like how you folded and glued the half-signatures into the scrapbook paper "folios". *Update* I love making these! Handy hint for using the vintage Little Golden Books: I use ArmorAll to clean and spiff up the outside covers. They tend to feel a little grimy from being in thrift stores.
It's the 1st time I've seen these and I love them. ❤ Thanks for a great tutorial. I gave all my children's Golden books away when they outgrew them so I will have to buy some of these books to make a journal. What a great idea.
Truly priceless in my opinion! I have 2 of the books now. My plan was to scan the pages and use them to make sets of ornaments on wood circles. I definitely will make one of these, and my wheels are turning as to other holiday themes I I have papers for. Thank you so much for sharing this! It's my first time to see one completed. I was mesmerized by the whole process!
Not sure if this was a recorded vidoe but here for the #replay. It was a fantastic show and tell of your journals! I would love to have your imagination! Great job! I'm sure you did well at the craft fair.
I am so excited to make one of these books. If you only knew how grateful I am to you for making this video. It's very well done. You are the best and have a generous soul. Thank you.
They are darling and yes $40 sounds good for each of them! Thank you for sharing how to Create them you made it look so easy! Hugs sending well wishes for you and your hubby! ❤christine
I literally just tried a junk journal for the first time last night (using a different method) WITH THIS SAME BOOK! 😂 I can't wait to try with the ribbon and elastic on the spine! Super cute! Thanks for sharing
Yes, I watched it all, and love these books!! I have been wanting to do something with a Golden book, and so I had to watch this. I love how it all came together! They are all precious, that vintage one would be hard for me to let go of!! I have saved this video to my favorites so that I will be able to easily find it. Thanks so much for sharing your process, you always have such great ideas!! Happy crafting, and I hope your bumps and bruises have healed by now and your hubby feels all better too!
Love this! What a wonderful idea. I have all my daughters golden box from her childhood and she is 35 now and I’m thinking this would be a great idea to make journals for her. Thanks for sharing this. 💕💕
I love these, so cute. The last (and only) time I face planted was a mall parking lot. I literally hit the pavement with my face. I broke my glasses, split my lip, and had a black eye for months. I also broke my foot!
You just blew my mind by the way you sandwiched your inner page edges into your pocket pages. Brilliant! I also appreciate your no-fuss way of putting it all together. I would not think twice about paying $40 for your journals, but I would adjust that up or down a bit depending on the location. Where I live, if I drove 45 mins one way, I'd probably charge less, and 45 mins the other way, I would charge a little more, because I know the price range the people in the area would be willing to/are able to pay. I hope that makes sense. I hope you and your husband are on the mend! Thank you for sharing!
Oh how wonderful!! And it looks easy to make! Thank you for showing us how to make this! So sorry about you falling. Just something about sore toes ugh! Prayers for Mr. Crafty! Hope you both feel better soon! Your books are amazing! Price I think is spot on! Big hugs my friend love ya!
Wow Deanna you have been a busy bee!! Love them all. You did an awesome job and I am sure you will sell them all! Hope your knee and your toe will be better tomorrow keep nursing the toe!
I love these! I've watched many videos of these Golden Books and each and every time I learn something new. I loved the way you did the book pages. Really lovely. I hope you sold them all? 🌷
Certainly did watch till the end. Lovely junk journals for the little ones. Very cute and useful entertainment other than the technology type. Bright and beautiful. Good luck at your coming craft fair. ☺
What a nifty way of putting LGB’s together. This looks a lot simpler than everything else I’ve seen, and a I’ve been doing this for several years. $30 is a good price for your books. I’m sorry you fell bc it’s very painful. I fell on Saturday, and it hurt a lot, but I think I’m going to be ok. Enjoy your little books at your craft show.
Before cutting the book, look at the very back loose page on the back at the binding where it connects to the hard back. If you see a letter about 1/3 way down, (you sometimes have to gently bend the back a little away from the paper), the book is more valuable as it is. The letter A is a first edition. Collectors pay a lot for certain LGB's. $100.00+
Cute little golden book journal. Great efforts. Very colorful and so many attachments. I liked to watch till the end. Hope your knee and toes are feeling better now. Hope Mr. Crafty is doing good too. Take care.
Thank you for this video! I was surprised at how easy they are to put together because they sure look a lot harder! I ordered a book so I can make one myself! As a little girl I always got Little Golden Books so they have a special memory for me.

That’s awesome
My daughter has a collection of almost 1000!
Honestly, as a publisher, this pains me.
@@CraftyCraftsByDeanna This is a cute way to collect the books & make them useful & add memories to them as well. TFS🤗

I would charge $40. Your skill set combined with vintage treasures truly make them one of a kind. Thank you for sharing your process.
Thank you Jen!
I second that. I buy mine for $45. 🥰😍

@@annmarie3196 this is interesting! I’ve donated to libraries, but never considered finding out if they have sales. :)
Love your process. It's very doable and not overwhelming. I especially love how you kept the book intact. Thanks for sharing it.
So cute! Thanks for sharing! Hope your tow gets better!
This is the most interesting video I’ve ever watched. The book is gorgeous!
Glad you enjoyed it!

This is the best, easiest tutorial I've seen for these! No punching... no sewing! Thank you so much!!! ❤
I can’t believe how quick you did this beautiful journal. Loved it!
I made it to the end twice. My second time watching it. Thank you. I love them.
Thank you!
This is the best golden book journal tutorial I have seen. This makes me feel like I can actually do this and not be overwhelmed. Thank you so much
Aww thank you
I love this book. W have a few copies of this book ranging from the early 70's- 90's because it's also a favorite of several of my children.
I need to make these! Fabulous job! Love the different way you put them together! Wow! ❤
Very good tutorial. All ten are gorgeous. Happy holidays i made it to the end!!😊

Thanks for a great tutorial.

buy some of these books to make a journal.
What a great idea.
Thank you for sharing your techniques. Using Tyvek on the spine is one I'm going to use. Beautiful job.
Thank you!
I finally understand the process. Thank you for the beautiful tutorial ❤
When your Fabri Tac gets too thick use a little acetone to thin it out. The journals are amazing.
The acetone doesn't break down the glue? That's a hack worth pocketing!
I’ve done this too! It’s on their website.
I need to do this. My Fabric Tack is usually thick with the first use.
