Hey guys! Just wanted to clarify, the CX-5 in the video is a Canadian spec and a 360 degree camera is unavailable in Canada, but the US Signature trim will get that feature. Hope you all enjoyed the snowy backdrop, just in time for the holiday season. Special thanks to Mazda for sending out to test this car and the rest of the CX-Line for 2019. Happy Holidays!
Wow....I'm a Toyota person but this turbo CX-5 is extremely impressive. You're getting a lot of bang for your buck here: turbo engine AWD with up to 250 HP, heated steering wheel, heated and cooled seats, heated rear seats, power folding mirrors, quiet cabin, Apple Car Play...all for around $35K? Dare I say that this is VERY MUCH worth the switch to me. I'm tempted to wave bye bye to my V6 2012 Camry....
@@wagrj5738 Lexus has better deals than Mazda! you can drive Lexus nx300 or BMW X3 xDrive30i or Acura RDX for less money than Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring Reserve
@@Lmarcanov1978 I had a deal for 2019 BMW x3 470mo 3200 out of pocket and it was cheaper than Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring Reserve 560mo 1500 out of pocket I finally got 2019 Acura Rdx AWD that was cheaper to lease than BMW x3 and much cheaper than Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring Reserve. I really like Mazda with its 300lb torque but after getting a quote from about 8 local leasing companies, Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring Reserve was the most expansive to lease.
what about the seats? some people say that they are pretty hard. i like the seats on the rav4 but if on the mazda are hard, idk if i could overlook it.
@@DarkDetectiveLight I had Sportage before CX5 and I'd say Mazda has even softer seats. Although they were leather in Sportage and fabric in Mazda. You should try them yourself, but I don't find anything wrong with them (on long journies too).
And they only make the turbo available in the range topping models. They are going to find them selves in the same position Subaru was in. These are bought by soccer moms who don't care about performance. All the "Enthusiasts" will praise it and not buy it... I hope I am wrong. But I doubt it.
@@wscott9779 at least the option is there. I currently own a '18 XT forester. I used to own a lot of performance cars but now need a "do it all" car that can fit a growing family but at least not be boring to drive. Yes i'm in a minority of buyer groups but for someone like me i'm glad there are still options out there like the cx5 turbo without shelling out for german badge. For that i applaud Mazda
@@v36nismoYou are going to spend 36 grand on a CX 5. My neighbor just bought a 2017 Lexus RX f sport for that with 36k on the clock for... Put the turbo in base CX 5 and you got something. Otherwise you just have an overpriced crossover... I love the Forester XT. I own a 2017 WRX. But you know why Subaru dropped the turbo. Less than 5% of Foresters sold were XT. They did not sell. You were one of the few that bought one. You bought a great car. Just not enough others did.
just so everyone is aware... Mazda is ranked 3rd for most reliable vehicle in the country for 2018 according to Consumer reports. Only behind Lexus and Toyota.
@@lunisce Yes, buy your subscription and look it up. I was surprised by Porsche, but I suppose the average Porsche owner is going to baby it and follow the maintenance manual to the letter. Hyundai/Kia did not surprise me at all. This is merely anecdotal, but my brother owns an Elantra and my mother owns a Forte, both with about 80K miles and neither makes so much as a squeak. A lot of people have really bought into the worship of Toyota and Honda as the be-all-end-all of reliability. Honda is now industry average, they haven't gotten worse (the Pilot, Odessy, and Ridgeline have, but only barely), but the rest of the industry has gotten better.
@@rightwingsafetysquad9872 Hyundai and Kia probably caught up in terms of reliability up to 100-150k, but there's no way they'll go beyond 300k+ without extensive repairs. Keep it mind that Toyota's and Honda's reach 300-400k+ with minimal maintenance, whereas Hyundai's and Kia's need to follow the manufacturer's "severe" schedule for oil changes just to run correctly. Also, consumer reports doesn't rate long-term reliability, only the first few years
We just picked up a 2019 Madza CX-5 Sport and we love it. When I mentioned Mazda to the wife, she said "huh". After a visit to the dealer and a test drive, she was sold. Great ride, great handling, and a beautiful interior. We were in need of the bells and whistles, but did add AWD. The dealer Koepell Madza, was great. Threw in the I-Sense Package as a bonus. Zoom-Zoom......
Mazda is really underrated. I didn’t care for them for the longest time because I thought they were “cheap” or not as good as the rest until I recently sat in 2018 models at the mall and now renting a 2018 Mazda 3. I can say that this Mazda 3 is hands down better than the Honda Civic my mom just got. I know Honda is “known” as one of the most reliable and best value cars but now I don’t think so. We are not impressed with the Civic and should have gave Mazda consideration because I’m pretty sure she would have drove home with a Mazda.
Very under rated brand/cars. You really see how under powered and cheaper the interior feels with the civic compared to the Mazda 3. And Honda’s quality is not all that great. I have a Pilot too and already wanting to trade it in. Although I do like the space in the Pilot. The new 3 looks good.
I've been in the 2019 Honda and the Mazda - and i disagree. They are both stunning and have great interior quality (the Mazda even more so), but the Mazda is simply too tight inside and not as fun. Adding onto that the much larger displacement which is heavily taxed in my country, the Honda is a clearly better car. The prices for the Honda Elegance 1.0 and the Mazda 3 Plus 2.0 are the exact same, too.
Had to buy two new cars - my daughter was getting my wife’s 2009 CR-V but figured it was pretty well used and figured we’d get a newer one for her, as well as my wife’s replacement vehicle. Looked in detail at the Honda and Toyota offerings including the brand new RAV-4 and CR-V. Researched all options extensively. Went to check out a 2016 (CPO) CX-5 Grand Touring and was very impressed with the drive, fit, finish (drove 4 others, too - all drove the same) and pricing relative to the competition. I was sold the 2016 CX-5. Then I took the 2019 CX-5 GTR with the 2.5 turbo out for a ride. Walked out of the dealership with 2016 and 2019 Signature! Hands-down the best in the class, and there aren’t a million of them on the road! Taking delivery in 3 days! Also, I didn’t want to wait for the RAV-4 Hybrid, which I will bet will not perform as well as the CX-5 Signature. Deal done.
I have a 2009 crv and am looking to upgrade soon too (hate 09 CRV). The 2019 signature trim looks amazing and the interior quality is definitely a step above competition. The 2019 rav4 interior was very disappointing, cheap plastic everywhere with poor fit and finish. Honda engines have had oil engine leak issues recently.
The quality of Mazda is NOT ok either. I bought a brand new 2017 CX5 and at 2000 miles and 8 months into ownership - the brakes/rotors started to corrode - Mazda claims this is from the cold weather and brakes are not covered under warranty. At under 6000 miles and 15 months into ownership all 4 brakes and rotors need to be replaced ($1200 with diagnosis charge). Mazda corporate essentially told me too bad when I complained - apparently Mazdas can't get wet or be driven in the snow otherwise it's your fault. This car is GARAGE kept and driven several times a week. Never had similar issues with other cars in my family (hondas, lexus, a toyota and vw). My jetta has 70k miles, kept outside all the time - still has original brakes. I will never buy a Mazda again. The premium look is paper thin - the car already has shakes and rattles in the cabin at a year old. Several trim pieces aren't hold up too well either.
Good Luck, hope you don't need it. I agree probably at first glance would be my first choice but I don't trade cars in like underwear so I will stick with Toyota. No turbo, no wonky tranny, no stop and start bs, just to name a few.
thoth111 I think he drove it pretty hard or he is lying through his teeth. We just had our 2015 cx5 front brakes and rotors replaced at 45k and rear only needs to be resurfaced.
We own a 2019 Mazda CX-5 Exclusive mode 2WD (Signature) diesel here in Japan with 190 bhp & 450 nm of torque. Cannot complain with the performance & fuel economy (I average about 18 km/l) Thank you for always doing a great review!
Every keyboard warrior who complained about Subaru canceling the Forester Turbo, Toyota canceling the RAV4 V6, etc. who doesn't buy this is a hypocrite.
Most people who buy those cars do little to no research and don't care about speed. Check the average age of buyers for those cads.. It's not exactly 25
Why can’t they just build the mazdaspeed version of every turbo Mazda cars ? They already have a turbo just need to get the suspension tight and that’s it . Look at Toyota they bringing their TRD brand to the Camry and Avalon ! Come on Mazda !

Yeah i prefer the 2019 Forester Sport in looks (Both exterior and interior) but that 180hp boxer engine is just waaaay too outdated. My '09 civic dx has 140 hp...... I literally have to put the pedal to the metal to pass someone fml so im waay more onboard with this Mazda, very impressed!
Only had red Mazda 323 from 1985 1.4 LX. I dream of an RX7 FD3S as my weekend drive and this or CX9 as daily drive. Shame CX9 not imported in Europe. Ill have to ship myself one from US:P
@Peder Hansen Thanks. I got family living in NY, and I live in the UK. There are cars from USA imported here and my insurance will go up due to left steering wheel but that would be it. You reminded me of my old Mazda when I was owning it in Romania and I had to wait 2 weeks for a indicator light cover that came from Hungary( luckily the parts shop owner had one himself and he knew where to get it from:)) But that was because of its age and rarity. It wont be the same with a few years old Mazda. Lets see.
Bought a 2018 Mazda6 and i absolutely love it!! Once i saw all that plastic in the Camry, and the overly styled Honda Accord, i decided on the 6..beautiful!
I bought it Nov 2014 so I just hit 4 years. Been really happy with it so far. I also have a Toyota Yaris that is 11 years old with 117k miles and it's only had one repair which was covered under warranty so I'm happy with that car too.
I have a 2012 Mazda 3 with 227,000 miles on it. Still running strong, zero mechanical issues. And it was the very first year of the skyactiv drivetrain.
I love my 2017 cx5. Definitely has a few major misses... like paying for Apple CarPlay, slow charging, no heads up display, and no remote start. However, I still love driving it. It responds very well. Without winter tires I was able to get my car over some deep snow with ease. It’s not worth it to me to pay $500 for Apple CarPlay when I have Bluetooth but that’s just me. For the price, it just feels luxurious. No plasticy rattling. For my first car purchase, I think it’s wonderful. I’m glad Mazda is moving up. Would love to see what’s in store for when I’m ready to buy another car. (Probably like 10 yrs from now lol)
To answer how the CX5 stacks up to RAV4 and Forrester-before the pan angled intro, surpasses. Mazdas made and engineered by Mazda are some of the best understated vehicles on the road.
The rav4 has always lacked character. The new forester is quite nice, interior has definitely stepped up. Only question is that boxer engine with cvt..
RAV4 and Forrester will always have their loyal customers but for my money you cannot beat a made in Japan Mazda CX-5 it’s the best looking inside and outside midsize suv. We have 2015 cx5 with 45k on it no issues what so ever engine is very quiet when idling you can’t even tell it’s on.
I have a 2016.5 CX-5 GT on lease, and when my lease ends in December 2019, I’ll be taking it back to the dealership and driving home in a 2020 CX-5 Signature edition.
That part in the beggining where you said we could believe you and that you weren't gonna lie about your impressions... that's why you're the GOAT of automotive review on RUclips Sofyan !
I was considering a RAV4 Limited Hybrid. Adding on the features racks the price up extremely high. I haven’t tested this yet, but I’m now adding this to my list. While it won’t have the RAV4’s mpg it is stunning inside and out, and I’m sure it drives a hell of a lot better. I’m excited to test this out soon.

Great video, as always! You're one of the most informative car reviewers out there - worldwide! (One tiny gripe, if I may: a grammatical mistake that's spreading like wildfire and, as a linguist, makes my hair stand on end: It should be "means nothing to you and ME", not "to you and I", we can't say "to I". e.g. John and I are showing the car to you and me.)
Wow! I am so surprised. Great review Sofyan. I am not a Mazda or turbo engined fan but I can say this car is definitely beautiful. I would opt for a base model with the NA engine but none the less this is stylish, decent power, decent size, and by your review sounds to be like a great all arounder. Thanks for bringing us this review.
I watch many automobile reviews; I think Redline, Sofyan Bey, is the best channel for automobile reviews; the backdrop of the trees and snow are really a nice part of this excellent automobile review.
What a fantastic vehicle! I would not have considered a Mazda before, due to it's lack of power. But this one is now at the top in that regard and the really nice interior to go with it. Not a bad price either! Well done Mazda!
There are various reasons why Mazda sticks with a 6-speed: 1. Mazda's engines are designed so that they don't need a lot of gears to get good economy. Competitors that use thirsty turbos desperately need the engine to stay at very low revs to get good economy, but Mazda's NA engines (and their specially designed 'low power' 2.5 turbo) are able to operate efficiently at relatively higher revs. This characteristic is being significantly improved with the SkyActiv-X engine, so Mazda cars will have significantly better economy when driven hard vs competitors while at the same time using shorter gearing for higher acceleration. 2. Their engines are also designed not to need a lot of gears to get good performance. They try to give their engines a wide power band (not to be confused with torque), so that even with only six gears you can stay close to peak power when redlining and shifting. 3. Mazda prefers the driver to experience revs building as they think it is more satisfying to drive. With more gears the transmission is constantly shifting giving a potentially vague rev characteristic. It's for this same reason Mazda has avoided CVTs (and I imagine they find the engineering of fake shift points to be distasteful). 4. It's cheaper for sure, but that does free up money to spend elsewhere. 5. It might be lighter, but I'm not 100% on that.
Well stated. Don't own a Mazda but this is why I like them. Unlike other car manufacturers in its class, they prioritize "driving matters" to their cars that are sporty and fun to drive. As an enthusiast, it's very appreciative these days.
I feel like you’re pulling those reasons out of your arse. Plenty of manufacturers stick with regular autos over cut due to their better driving characteristics. Cvts are really only there for economy (and are probably cheaper to make). Mazda know how to make cars that are interesting and that’s one of the reasons people who actually like driving prefer them to Toyota etc.
@@_chipchip The first three points I heard directly from interviews with Mazda engineer/rep Dave Coleman. Mazda is definitely an outlier among Japanese manufacturers in regards to using traditional automatic over CVT. They're also probably the only volume manufacturer to boast that they are working to improve the ICE rather than develop EV tech in the coming decade.
Took the 18’ model (pre-turbo model) out for a 2 week California excursion...drove from San Diego, all the way through the winding pacific coast Highway 1 on the mountains, then played in Yosemite for 1 week on the mountainous winding ups and downs and it was AMAZING! I drive a new Crosstrek but seriously wanted to trade it in for one of these. The styling is beautiful, handling is that of a sportier car, and inside super comfortable. Such a good vehicle. The draw backs for the previous models were no Apple play (the infotainment system was horrible 😕) but that was about it. Throw on a turbo...yes please!
The Audi Q5 has the same kind of AWD system as the Mazda CX5 right now. Both are front wheel drive based and send power to the rear based on sensor input trying to predict slippage and act before it happens.
It’s great that the CX-5 now has power to compete with the big boys, but it has never been one of the slowest in the class. The CR-V is really the only vehicle with more power on paper, but by barely. 3 more hp, but 7 less lb-ft of torque. Besides that, CX-5 has been beating the rest of the competition with power&torque
Right Wing Safety Squad said no one ever... stones? Pounds? Yards? The fuck? You’re the only country still using it right? There’s gotta be a reason why haha :)
I rented a 2018 cx5 sport or touring on a 6 hour trip going up to Eureka Ca. It was very comfortable and amazing on the mountain road and ate up curves like nothing I was pushing it to the limits around every turn and felt really confident for fun I even chase a 370Z ( 60-80 mph) in curves and up hill. My only complaint was small gas tank and lack of power. But than again I think it's because I was flooring it most of the time lol. MAZDA nailed it with this 2019 CX5, Turbo and AWD and one of the best interior 👏👏👍
Gary Jones..it's because whenever a manufacturer unveils something new they pay the self-proclaimed RUclips "automotive journalists" to review the car. They pay their airfare, hotel room, etc. bringing them all together at the same location. How unbiased can one be when they are getting paid and if they give a bad review they know they won't be invited back for any future reviews. You will not find a bad review by any of these self-proclaimed automotive journalists where that have been comped to do the review. Consumer Reports buys the vehicles they review and doesn't attend these press events.
10:53 the question is, why are the controls placed so low? So much wasted space in these Mazda center console area. Looks like they trying to protect the vents..lol
Bert Bert See 16:34 - you can see it’s an aesthetic approach: Keep Gauges South of the Equator - creates the illusion of Width in the front , as the line sweeps from the right door all the way to the steering wheel. It’s an interior body line essentially. Plus - it’s not Ugly like Fords Dash -- where the gauges run all the way up and don’t let the Center Screen be a Focal Point. Looking like a cluttered Totem pile all the way up!! Mazda’s approach is Clean this way.
@@austing4321 If Blazer follows 2018 Equinox redesign then it should be very competitive. The new Equinox is amongst the most reliable in the segment and so much better than CR-V 1.5t with fuel mixing with oil.
@@normt5463 class competitive isn't where GM wants to be. They should be putting in as much effort as Mazda based on their brand image right now. The equinox is "class competitive" but still underwhelming and overpriced compared to the competition like the cx-5 and Tuscon. Just rented an AWD for a road trip. Love the car. things to improve: more cargo space. It was one of the biggest limitations I had with the car. Had a full car for a Tahoe trip and the storage got limited really fast. Add maybe 2 more inches of leg room in the rear the volume knob near the center arm rest is quite tucked in for people with longer arms and is kind of hard to adjust. I feel like Salt bae when trying to adjust it. The rear backup camera quality is terrible. It's like 240p Move the rear charging ports and heated seats from the rear arm rest to the center console knee area. Cannot be accessed when 3 passengers in back. Put the blind spot orange lights on the inside of the cabin rather than on the mirrors. Change the keyless entry from the button on the door handle to unlocking by placing the hand behind the handle Redesign the key fob (it looks like Nissan's which isn't a good thing) and consider adding remote start. Offer a button to turn off infotainment screen to reduce eye strain at night. Lastly, ADD A BIGGER GAS TANK!! I get like 320 mile range which is not good. My Accord gets like 480. And the notification for low fuel turns on with only like 25 miles left which is really low. That said, awesome mpg even with AWD. Averaged like 29mpg while driving 80mph Sufficient power with the 186hp. Nothing mind-blowing but gets the job done. Really sleek vehicle Love the seatbelt notification of the backseats Driving Dynamics are nice for a CUV
I think I've just found my new car. I've been watching so many reviews to help cut down time in car shopping. I love that I can get an idea of what vehicles are available for the needs I have and want instead of going to many dealerships and having to test drive to find out it isn't for me. Thanks for the reviews!! my only wish is you'd slow down on talking on specs. Hard to hear and see all the features
i work for toyota. and in my head im just like why the fuck are you buying this shitty rav 4. But my job is to sell. Even The 2017 mazda CX5 blows the new 2019 rav4,Its honestly a shame.

Mazda is just simply shaming all brands. Ive always loved Mazda and was brought up in a home that owned Mazdas so it runs deep. While im not a fan of SUV's, If I were to purchase one it would definitely be a Mazda.
I am not a car guy, and I am trying to figure out what i want to buy next. Your videos have been VERY helpful to me. Thanks for being super helpful to a non-car enthusiast dummy :)
Sofyan, please note: the wheels are definitely different-looking from the 2018 high-level cx5 models. 2018 and 2019 are both still available on the Mazda site, and you can build your own and see.the difference.
We bought a M6 in 2014, always keep it in the garage, give it oil changes on time, it has almost 50k miles and doesn’t know it’s 14 years old! We are going to buy the CX5 !
There is still one HUGE PROBLEM with this vehicle and its SPACE. The second row hardly has any at all and the boot space is downright terrible for a compact suv. I waited and waited for a powerful reliable variant in this segment but then Subaru just dropped a powerful engine and the previous gen is a loud car. This is perfect except this isn’t a compact car. It’s sub compact suv. The rear space is very small. It isn’t going to be comfortable for long drive for adults. I settled with Santa Fe sport 2.0t which is kind of a mid size but at a compact price. Powerful and spacious with loads of goodies like car play 360 cam moon roof adaptive cruise emergency braking. Few of these features aren’t still in the Cx5. What they really need to do now is simply work on a refresh and increase the rear space to match the compact space. Until they do it , it’s not going to be hot cakes. Welcome the powerful engine change though and luxurious interior but when buyers with family look at the rear space in comparison to other vehicles in segment they simply won’t get this. Even the one which are all praise this isn’t practical when they actually look inside in person. Sophian is actually being very subjective but is not objective of the typical buyers in this segment, to the point of being downright insensitive
Nope. Just test drove a reserve turbo. The dealer says that Mazda is comparing the reserve and reserve signature to Acura, Audi and BMW. No way. But the CX5 turbo indeed is a very good car.
Redline and AlexonAutos are way more thorough in their reviews. They cover a lot more and are more mature/professional. Straight pipes just chat and goof around with each other for 20 minutes while driving and call it a review. I do like their editing and music though.
You can also get ventilated front seats with the base engine with the Grand Touring trim. It's included a package which I think was called the GT Premium package
In sells they can. Let's be honest CRV and Rav4 will always sell like hotcakes while the CX5 sells stay steady. Believe me I would pick a CX5 over any other CUV but you cant excuse that CRV and Rav4 are solid options.
Nice to see Mazda making necessary improvements. Ventilated seats is something they needed and same with car play/ android auto. The new turbo engine is a nice addition too. These vehicles no longer leave much of anything on the table.
CX-5 has 1 issue. The gas tank is to small. Needs better mileage range. I have the 2016.5 and average get to 275-300 before needing to fill up. This new one has AWD and Turbo so you're looking at 250.
@@Newzchspy I use 87 and have a good mix and city and highway and normally average 24 or 25 per tank. One thing I have noticed is the computer plays it very safe when it comes to range and Miles to empty. I've taken it down to 0 miles of range and filled up and still only put 12.5 to 13 gallons in and it supposed to have a 14 gallon tank. But I guess that's better than running out on the side of the road LOL.
i have a 2016 gt, i have a long commute 215kms each way to work (133 miles) and fill up each morning, come home with a 1/4 tank each time. All highway, all driven FAST :-)
Man, $38,000 for a CX-5... I always had a soft spot for the CX-5 since my first car was a Mazda and all. My wife and I even cross shopped it when we were looking for her car. But objectively speaking, the CX-5 doesn’t run away with the segment. Mainly because of how strong Toyota has become lately. The CX-5 will always have steering feel - hopefully anyways. But one cannot ignore the fact that the RAV4 is far more spacious despite only being 1 (one!) inch bigger. The RAV4 is also more efficient, has far more standard safety features, and has a nicely trimmed interior just like the CX-5. The CX-5 has the turbo, yes. But it’s a blessing and a curse. On regular gas you’re looking at 228hp 310ft-lbs and 22/27 city/highway mpg. RAV4 Hybrid on the other hand is rated at 219hp/~250ft-lbs and 41/37 city/highway mpg which is a huge difference. The nail in the coffin is despite the “feel” of the CX-5, cars like the RAV4 and CR-V actually put up better handling numbers. Ouch. And considering the fact that a RAV4 (Hybrid) cost the same as a loaded CX-5 Signature trim I just don’t see how the Mazda can compete. I mean unless you REALLY want the extra power. At the end of the day, money talks, just saying some things that I noticed.
Cecil L to me the interior plastics of the RAV4 look and feel cheap and aren’t put together well. It’s also noisy and there is a small list of other issues I have found over a few weeks of research. I walked away from RAV4 disappointed. It’s not all rainbows & unicorns over there @ Toyota. I’m the owner of my 5th Mazda and they’ve all been great and the dealership experience with sales & service in Oklahoma City has been great as well. Fun efficient affordable and well built.
It’s the difference of build quality. Sure the interior of the Rav looks nice but it’s all plastic. The CX-5 is made with genuine materials that feel nice as well. You also can not compare the driving dynamics, the RAV4 is not designed for an engaging drive, it’s meant to get you from A to B
Connecticut Dashcam RAV4 LE and XLE models are pretty low rent, but Limited and Adventure trims actually have real stitched dash and door panels and softer moldings. Toyota’s leather isn’t real and the softer moldings are a little rubberized, but it works and was likely done for longevity. As far as build quality goes, only time will tell how these cars hold up, but based on my previous stint with Mazda I’m willing to bet the RAV4 will hold up better as they have for the past 20 or so years. At the end of the day all these cars are built to a price so let not be fooled into thinking we’re buying hand crafted excellence here haha. The center consul of the CX-5 moves just by you pressing on it, the seats while “supple”, are very thin and will likely loose bolstering over time, the RAV4 entire cargo quarters are covered in hard scratchy plastics that are sure to rattle over time, and its devoid it seems of any sound deadening in the engine compartment. And don’t even get me started on the historic shoddy job Mazda does with rust proofing and winterizing their cars. You have to cut cost somewhere, unless of course you’re building a LFA or some other statement car. All I’m saying is that nitpicking aside, I think the RAV4 emerges as the better all around vehicle.
Nice Review! just want to clarify... did mazda remove the I-stop function in the 2019 signature turbo?? it has proven to be a deal breaker for me... its so annoying!

I don't know why that is. I mean you would think that Mazda or Canada would allow the 360° camera.
The button for the 360 camera are on the left by the lift gate button left of the steering wheel

I really appreciate Mazda for not switching to CVT transmissions.
Ef Lbjo for real! I enjoyed the Mazda 6 speed when I drove one.
Time for 8 speed at least in 2019
I agree, if they put a CVT in this it would be a deal breaker for me. CVTs are crap!
Nothing wrong with a cvt, if done right. Turbos are old tech. Then again, so are cvts. The materials will improve as well as the tech.
Too bad they use those terrible turbo charged engines
mazda is absolutely killing it for the price. i’m sold.
At $40K this is luxury car territory. Way too expensive for a economy based compact SUV.

How is Mazda reliability compared to Toyota?
@@LIFEOFSTUFFEDANIMALS The same I would say.
Curious Airlines Toyota smoke Mazda about reliability
Wow....I'm a Toyota person but this turbo CX-5 is extremely impressive. You're getting a lot of bang for your buck here: turbo engine AWD with up to 250 HP, heated steering wheel, heated and cooled seats, heated rear seats, power folding mirrors, quiet cabin, Apple Car Play...all for around $35K? Dare I say that this is VERY MUCH worth the switch to me. I'm tempted to wave bye bye to my V6 2012 Camry....
The only issue is that this cars resale value is no where close to a Toyotas resale value. If you care about that sort of thing

As much as I get tired of seeing compact crossovers everywhere, these CX-5's are actually nice to see. Easily would pick this over its competition

Nothing beats Mazda, unless you add ~ 20k usd over it.

Mazda adding a turbo CX-5 just when Subaru is dropping their turbo forester... Well played Mazda, Well played
Yeah I was hoping that subaru would put the 2.3 turbo from the ascent in the new forester. My 14 xt had me hooked on speed.
Great stuff from Mazda. Just wish they added paddle shifters too😞
And they only make the turbo available in the range topping models. They are going to find them selves in the same position Subaru was in. These are bought by soccer moms who don't care about performance. All the "Enthusiasts" will praise it and not buy it... I hope I am wrong. But I doubt it.

7:06 That “shutting the door, nice and solid” thud never fails. lol
Isaac Kamau yes he just didn’t say “thunk” this time I was disappointed that word was left out 😭
Mazda is really underrated.
Traded in my 2014 Civic for a 2018 Mazda 3 GT- I haven’t looked back since.
Very under rated brand/cars. You really see how under powered and cheaper the interior feels with the civic compared to the Mazda 3. And Honda’s quality is not all that great. I have a Pilot too and already wanting to trade it in. Although I do like the space in the Pilot. The new 3 looks good.
Nah, Hondas quality is doing just fine. It's Ford's quality I have an issue with especially their interiors.
Honda and Toyota are both over rated in many ways and if more people would actually investigate the competition with an open mind they would see that.
Cannot complain with the performance & fuel economy (I average about 18 km/l)

There are various reasons why Mazda sticks with a 6-speed:
I’m Mazda fan for 25years. In my driveway Mazda3, Cx3, Cx9 and this is I’m waiting for cx5 2019. Started Protege!
I'm so happy they finally added a turbo. I owned the '16 and loved it, but it felt so underpowered. May have to revisit Mazda again.

The
CR-V is really the only vehicle with more power on paper, but by barely. 3 more hp, but 7 less lb-ft of torque. Besides that, CX-5 has been beating the rest of the competition with power&torque

It's funny when there's a bunch of car review channels in the same place, with the same car, at the same time.

Put the blind spot orange lights on the inside of the cabin rather than on the mirrors.
Change the keyless entry from the button on the door handle to unlocking by placing the hand behind the handle
Redesign the key fob (it looks like Nissan's which isn't a good thing) and consider adding remote start.
Averaged like 29mpg while driving 80mph
Sufficient power with the 186hp. Nothing mind-blowing but gets the job done.
Really sleek vehicle
Love the seatbelt notification of the backseats
Driving Dynamics are nice for a CUV
I think I've just found my new car. I've been watching so many reviews to help cut down time in car shopping. I love that I can get an idea of what vehicles are available for the needs I have and want instead of going to many dealerships and having to test drive to find out it isn't for me. Thanks for the reviews!! my only wish is you'd slow down on talking on specs. Hard to hear and see all the features
Just want to say I love this channel and your reviews so much!!
MAZDA CX5 most beautiful and enjoyable cars to drive
@ 07:38 , where's the HUD?? Unable to see on video.
This 35k car has power folding mirrors? Pretty impressive.
Mazda base trim on all models in Sweden has power folding mirrors, funny how much it differs country to country what specs you get.
Kvickstick most places in the USA are well spaced out so folding mirrors is more a luxury vs a necessity.
@@thrasherx2k1 Oh yes that makes sense...
i work for toyota. and in my head im just like why the fuck are you buying this shitty rav 4. But my job is to sell. Even The 2017 mazda CX5 blows the new 2019 rav4,Its honestly a shame.
@@TehWolfBite I'm calling your work, have fun getting let go
I've been renting a bunch of cars and I got my hands on one of these and was blown away. By far the best thing I've rented from budget as far as size, manual feels amazing and so responsive to shifting especially on sport mode
This is a better looking, better performing, better interior and transmission having Forester XT. Done.
The Foresrer is a 3rd world country SUV. Not surprise at the cheap interior.
@@normt5463 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Sofyan, please note: the wheels are definitely different-looking from the 2018 high-level cx5 models. 2018 and 2019 are both still available on the Mazda site, and you can build your own and see.the difference.
When the camera angle lines the chrome trim and the mirror turn signal up perfectly at 3:00 👌👌
We bought a M6 in 2014, always keep it in the garage, give it oil changes on time, it has almost 50k miles and doesn’t know it’s 14 years old!
Perfect for the single couple with a dog, who look at Art Museums on the weekends.
Good comprehensive review. Looks a real lovely car and the addition of a turbo seems to really help the speed / torque from a standing start.
Is the interior luxurious enough to sway RDX shoppers?
Nope. Just test drove a reserve turbo. The dealer says that Mazda is comparing the reserve and reserve signature to Acura, Audi and BMW. No way. But the CX5 turbo indeed is a very good car.
I saw a Mazda CX-9 on the road, and it blows my mind.
Love your reviews, gives the straight pipes a run for their money. Keep it up!
papasmurftastic What did you just say?! Redline is amazing but Straight pipes is still better, you stupid hater
papasmurftastic ok 😂
Consolethumbs - sorry if I seemed rude in that reply, but I still think Straight pipes is better
Redline and AlexonAutos are way more thorough in their reviews. They cover a lot more and are more mature/professional.
Straight pipes just chat and goof around with each other for 20 minutes while driving and call it a review. I do like their editing and music though.
I have a 2018 CX-5 totally decked out! I LOVE IT! ❤️
Nice would definitely drive this over a rav four
You can also get ventilated front seats with the base engine with the Grand Touring trim. It's included a package which I think was called the GT Premium package
The new Rav-4 and CRV can’t even hold a stick to this CX-5 . Mazda is on a ROLL! #zoomzoom
In sells they can. Let's be honest CRV and Rav4 will always sell like hotcakes while the CX5 sells stay steady. Believe me I would pick a CX5 over any other CUV but you cant excuse that CRV and Rav4 are solid options.
I'm not saying anything bad about the new rav 4 eh this is solid looking cx5
Let us know in 5 years how the turbo is doing on this cx5. Also Rav4 isn't going to hold a stick but it will hold the kings crown on its head.
CRV is shit but the CX5's engine has nothing on Toyota, shitty engine that requires 10x times the maintenance.
Nice to see Mazda making necessary improvements. Ventilated seats is something they needed and same with car play/ android auto. The new turbo engine is a nice addition too. These vehicles no longer leave much of anything on the table.
Why do people always slag Mazda for a small infotainment screen? Are we driving a car, or watching TV?
I really think you should do a review on the 2020 Mazda CX-5! A few of those have just arrived at my dealership yesterday up in Wilmington, DE!
CX-5 has 1 issue. The gas tank is to small. Needs better mileage range. I have the 2016.5 and average get to 275-300 before needing to fill up. This new one has AWD and Turbo so you're looking at 250.
You are Absolutely right
I have 2018 gt and this is only one issue....
JB 360 so true they need at least 18 gallons on this turbo.
James Crow pfft, no way you're averaging >30 mpg on your CX5........
Enjoy your reviews, but am still trying to figure out why/how you are in British Columbia with a vehicle with Ontario plates?
ya good catch, how does that work, if we was flown out to BC?
