So thankful there are actual professional videographers making videos about their gear instead of the mass amounts of people that only make camera reviews with their gear. Oh yeah I got my A7IV a couple of days ago! Getting myself intimate with all the settings before I head out.
I don't think Sony a7 IV is mostly used by professional videographers. So probably most would take benefit from the videos that you complained about...
@ Actually movie and TV videographers would be less likely to use it but the A7III was extremely popular among professional wedding, event, and stock videographers. Most of the RUclipsrs I'm referring to will be making a new video of another camera or drone offered to them by manufacturers before even a week passes by.

nice to see a real world usage of the camera and the compensation for the minor crop issue. can't say any professional I know would drop a camera just because you need to change lens for for 50/60frames mode but reading the youtube comments you could end up thinking there are no professionals in the community LOL 😂

Appreciate the review, agree on the crop.. in studio work, if the DP or director wants a 35mm 4K, they get 35mm 4K. No excuses on the crop. They'll just tell you to throw the camera away and get another camera.
When it comes to motion pictures, 35mm wasn't the same as 35mm in still photography. For a long time the cinema standard was Super 35, which has a crop factor similar to APS-C (1.5). That has started to changed with the advent of full-frame cinematography.

How about test shots of the Sony a7iv 4k crop 60fps with Sony 16-55 f2.8 lens? The new Tamron aps-c Zoom lenses and the Sigma new aps-c Zoom lenses. Also, do several similar tests with Fuji aps-c prime lenses for Sony e-mount: Fuji 16mm f1.4; Sigma 19mm f/2.8; Sigma 30mm f/1.4; Sigma 56mm f/1.4.
After watching this video, I took my A7iv out for a test shoot. I found this 5-foot wide water fountain near my home to test with. I was using the Viltrox 24mm f/1.8 lens. I shot the fountain at 24fps. Then switched to S&Q to shoot at 60fps. In my S&Q shot, I only had to step back 1-1/2 feet (0.467 meters) to achieve the same composition as the 24fps shot. As a filmmaker of narrative films, I don't have an issue with the 4K 60fps crop. Whatever camera I'm shooting with, I adapt to its limitations when needed. In the case of 60fps, I don't shoot in that frame rate that often. If I did, I would plan for it. In the case of my fountain shot, the 4K 60fps crop had very little effect on my choices when it came to composition.

Thanks for your experience with the A7IV on this commercial Jason. I was wondering what would be the advantages/disadvantages if you were to do the same shoot with no rig at all. Would you be able to achieve the same result and how much more difficult it would be. Thanks.
No rig would mean no external video for directors monitor. Would need a monitor Mount. Potential for changing batteries more often. Having to power other accessories with their own battery. No handles. Etc. many advantages for cages but clean rigs can still do the same job. Right cage for the right job
Absolutely missed the fx6 on this job. Specially the variable ND filter. I am much more use to exposing correctly the fx6 but it comes down to usage time and experience on that camera

Nice. I’ve been thinking about getting a a7iv to replace my a7iii as a B cam but that crop really has me on edge 😭. It looks amazing though and would pair with my a7siii seamlessly. Do you have a link to the dummy battery ?
Thanks Jason, I appreciate the review. I just received 2 A7iv to replace my micro four thirds setup. Having done a ton of videography with corporate interviews and more recently added a huge architectural photography component, I am really looking forward to exploring the hybrid photo/video aspects of this camera. I am glad to hear the IBIS worked well for you, since I shoot mostly handheld, that was my biggest issue leaving the Panasonic system. Were all the lens you used without OSS? You were just relying on the cameras IBIS, right? You still found it usable without post stabilization?
Please give an Update of your experience. I started with mft from Panasonic and then Switched to A7siii. After the launch of the gh6 and I of course had all the mft lenses lying around I gave it a try. Now I am back at mft with gh6 since it works so much better for me than the a7siii. It is a more "professional" Camera I would say. I have no experience with the a7iv until now and watch a lot of reviews but I don't think I will change. So I would be curious about your Update. Side note: I am mostly filming weddings.
@@tre.portrays Thanks for the reply! I'm a bit stupid but does that mean if I use for eg: a 16mm APSC SONY LENS whilst on 4k 60fps, it'll still be a 16mm focal length 4k 60fps? Again sorry I'm a bit stupid at times
@@PrimVB Never feel stupid for asking a question to gain more knowledge!! But yeah, the focal length of the lens will remain the same, but the crop of the lens will be 1.5x as the lens mount is designed for a smaller imaging circle. So, 16mm x 1.5 = 24mm equivalent.

@@lightlinemedia5775 Thanks …but i tried it at both and it did the same …will try with the screen open 😉👍
I got the a7 iv and it does gets kinda hot while recording in 4k 10 bit, dont like that feeling as much. It gets me pretty worried/nervous
good work bro :)
Thank you
Do you have a video on your A7IV rig?
Nice. I’ve been thinking about getting a a7iv to replace my a7iii as a B cam but that crop really has me on edge 😭. It looks amazing though and would pair with my a7siii seamlessly. Do you have a link to the dummy battery ?
Can the a7vi record 12bit external? Thanks! Great video
not at the moment
Can you add your external battery set up to your gear list?
Thanks Jason, I appreciate the review. I just received 2 A7iv to replace my micro four thirds setup. Having done a ton of videography with corporate interviews and more recently added a huge architectural photography component, I am really looking forward to exploring the hybrid photo/video aspects of this camera. I am glad to hear the IBIS worked well for you, since I shoot mostly handheld, that was my biggest issue leaving the Panasonic system. Were all the lens you used without OSS? You were just relying on the cameras IBIS, right? You still found it usable without post stabilization?
Absolutely useful. Clearly depending on your technique and steady holding skills though haha
If possible can you please make a Sony A 7 4 rig setup?
Happy New Year!
Any news on the Atomos Ninja V recording support for A7IV?
comes out of the HDMI, should be fine?
Yeah regular 4K recording is fine out of the ninja v. Just no RAW support
Great real world experience.
Could you compensate with APSC lenses for the crop factor in 4k60fps?
You sure can! Sony cameras can automatically detect APSC E-mount lenses and will crop into super35mm mode accordingly.
@@PrimVB it will become 24mm POV.
@@tre.portrays Thank you so much for that. Really appreciate it
