Wow...you've just answered some of the questions I've been stuck on. I've watched several videos looking for these answers and could find them. My large size prints weren't coming out as clear although I was using the appropriate DPI. This makes so much sense. Thank you so much!!!♥️♥️♥️🙏
Procreate 5 was just released earlier this week - we now have the ability to use CMYK color straight in the app without using Affinity Designer. You can find this option under the 'Color profile' settings when you create a new canvas.
@@INeedsMoneys Yes, it's confusing! I would just go with the 'generic' option. The other profiles only really make a difference if you are printing professionally.
This is sooooo useful. I have been looking for this video for a while now. I am making a board game and all of the illustrations/artwork is printed out in CMYK at these huge game manufacturers. So this is the best way to give them high quality artwork that they can print in massive amounts! Thank you!
Thank you from sharing hun, I am starting or hopefully opening up my Etsy shop hopefully in the next few weeks or so, just trialling and prepping designs etc anyways new subby and like 😍
Yes I love this method too, I usually export from Procreate as PSD to my google drive open up on my desktop in Affinity Designer and export as what the print on demand wants and change to CMYK and export. Since I have Affinity Designer on the IPad too, I will do it this way today. Thank you for sharing your expertise 😊

Hello! Do you have any advice for printing images for stickers? Im trying to build a sticker shop and im worried that i may be doing something wrong before printing. I usually export my sticker image as a PNG under 300dpi and I add bleed as well. I try to print them 3 by 3 inches but it seems theh come out pixelated and weird blocks of color in horizontal lines. Anyone else that can help please do🙏🏻💕
Hi there, not sure if you'll see this as this is an older video, but I've tried everything you said in the video, and it was very helpful! But, the colour is very muted when printed and it's a brand new printer. It actually prints fine from other sources like the Internet, but as soon as I export a photo as a PNG from Procreate to print (either RGB or CMYK), the colour is bland and muted using both. What am I doing wrong? TIA 😊
Hi @inspirinkpress Thanks for your question. You’re not doing anything wrong. CMYK is a more muted colour profile, but there are a couple of things you can do to brighten your artwork in Procreate before printing it out. Please see here for some tips - ruclips.net/video/HcPGe0YjgEk/видео.html This video is from a few years ago, and since then, Procreate now handles CMYK profile. The other things I mention are still relevant though. It might also be useful to watch this updated version here - ruclips.net/video/8LY012VCbhA/видео.html Hope that helps!
@@iPadCalligraphy Thanks for the reply! I will watch the videos, but the end result looks the same (very dull, almost washed out) even in RGB format, compared to what it looks like on Procreate.
@@iPadCalligraphy Update: it was my printer paper settings! I didn't have them sent to the proper setting for the type of sticker paper I am using. But I'm definitely still going to check out your videos as I'm new to this, and I think they will help! Thanks again ☺️
Hi there I was wanting to know can you do a video concerning anyone who wants to provide three different sizes of their artwork through Procreate. For example, I only art business, and I really want to start turning my artwork into digital file that people can start downloading and buying online but I just want to offer three sizes small medium and large. Frame sizes: 8x10, 11x14, 18x24. How would I size my canvass on Procreate app for those specific frame sizes for people to print? I don’t know if I make any sense but I hope I do. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge I appreciate it.
Thanks for your question! It depends on what kind of artwork you create and what the end user would get. Is your artwork in full colour or black and white? If you’re just wanting them to print the files out, you could provide a ‘PDF’ format. You would then make your document size at the 3 different sizes, and import your artwork into each size, then export as a PDF. You need to make sure you create the artwork at the largest size out of the 3 options though so it won’t lose quality when you resize it. Does that help? Feel free to provide more info so I can help you better. Thanks!
Hi, um I drew some bookmark designs (just line art no color), I set the size to 6x2 and I wanted to print it out so I did but it was really big. Can anyone please explain how to print it the size I actually want?
I wanna ask please. The final thing, when we will export the file and choose the format file, under the export flyer there is dimension flyer. Should I change the preset to be tiff cmyk? Because that still written rgb there
hey, it's a nice video, but can you (or someone else) help me? 1 - how to export my art as CMYK file, and what the format for that? is TIFF? cause it's doesn't work as PNG as JPEG. 2 - my art is in RGB color, can i convert this to CMYK without the quality get lost? i would like export this in both color format, CMYK to print and RGB to post.
Thank you for this but I would like to know how to print my procreate pictures that I started out tracing from my photos. As far as I can tell Procreate imports photos at 267 dpi and there isn’t a way to change that. I have looked up the dpi of photos taken with an iPad Pro and, from what I have read, the iPad takes 300 dpi photos but when i import them to Procreate they are 267 dpi and the prints are blurry. I would appreciate any suggestions
Thank you for your informative video. I am trying to figure out what resolution we can use in Procreate to be able to print up to even A0 size (33.1 x 46.8inch)? What color profile we can use in Procreate while selecting the canvas, now that CMYK profiles are available too? I have done some good paintings in Procreate using 4096 x 4096 px and P3 color profile, but not sure if I am able to convert these to printing on big canvas up to A0 size. Thank you very much again.
Why do u think my printer prints in blue/cyan? even when I select the black and white setting? I’ve printed in cmyk but instead of black it’ll print a bluish color. However, when I print from my desktop i don’t have this issue 🤔 Thanks
Wow..I try to do this right now, I didn t choose my artwork canvas to be in pixels size but I chose in mm, most exactly a A5 paper size. So it will print a5 size?
Thank you for the helpful video! I am a little lost as to how I print my image once it’s been properly uploaded into affinity. I don’t own a printer and I would be printing it from a store...
This video is so helpful! I do have a question though. The colors of my work always comes out like twice as dark as they looked on the screen (I use CMYK to start with in Procreate) any tips to get closer to the color that it looked when I was drawing it?
Same with mine. This is a small bit of info on the topic, “To save the CMYK file as a PNG, will cause it to be converted into RGB when it is saved. The PNG file format was designed for screen use, not for printing and it does not support CMYK color mode- any PNG file saved from a CMYK file will be converted to RGB color mode.” “The CMYK colour space on the other hand is a colour space that has been designed for reproduction work through formats such as TIFF, PSD and JPEG.” I’m assuming this may be a reason it is changing the color. So try saving it in one of the files that support CMYK.
If I make a 24"x36" canvas, I can't set 300dpi as my (older) iPad can't handle this. I can however set it to 150dpi, is this enough? Or can I start out with a 12"x18" canvas at 300dpi, and later enlarge it to 24"x36" in Photoshop? Please help!
Wow this whole time, I’ve been saving my files from procreate to PNG and then upload into AI to convert into vector file ?.. do I change the file from there to CMKY for higher quality ? Or am I missing something here? Lol sorry newbie lol my main purpose is to sell printable art and I want to make sure its good quality 😊
You can use Illustrator to convert to CMYK as well. This method is just an alternative so you can stay on the iPad. If you are converting your artwork to vector, you might find this video useful too - bit.ly/2Var93T
Very informative. I'm trying to set up printing to get the colours that I'm wanting from my ipad, how would you go about printing these images? Would you send them to the printer as singular TIFF files, or would you compile them in something else? Also how would you go about resizing them for printing?
Once you have the artwork prepared (ie. the steps shown in the video), you can print the image at home if you have an AirPrint compatible printer. Otherwise you can send to a desktop computer and print from there. Single TIF files would work fine. Re resizing, it depends by how much, you'll see quality loss if you enlarge the dimensions and resolution. It's much easier if you set the artwork up correctly initially. Obviously it can't be helped retrospectively. Try following the last step in the video - export from Procreate and import into the canvas size you require in Affinity - that should adjust the dimensions for you. You can also use Photoshop on a desktop if you have access. Hope that helps, thanks for watching.
I dont know if youll see this comment 4 years later! But im VERY new to procreate and just wondered how (for example) if i wanted this artwork to print on an A4 layout, is this possible or would it need to be re created?
Hello! It depends what the artwork size was created at. If you go to the wrench icon / canvas menu / canvas information / then choose the dimensions tab - that will show you the physical size of the document. You want that to be as close as possible to size you want to print ie. A4 size.
Once you get it to tiff how do you transfer it to be printed? The file is so large I can’t email it myself witch is what I normally do. Would a drop box work? Is 3000 pxl by 4000 pxl good for something that’s to be printed on a size 23 inches by 19 in
I have everything set to the right dimensions but when I send it to the printer it just prints it 8.5x11. I didn't select fit to page either. Any idea why that would be?

Are there any other apps to use, preferably in the Adobe suite, to accomplish the same? $15.99 for an app just to change the color profile is a bit much for me.
Yes, it depends if this is something you are doing often enough to warrant spending money on it. As mentioned in the video, Adobe Photoshop will do the job also but the price for that is $30 per month, so the one-off cost of Affinity is definitely cheaper. Affinity is also useful for vectorising artwork which a lot of people need to do + keeps things on the iPad for those who don't own a desktop computer. There's obviously many ways to do things, but I try and find something that suits most of people when aiming for pro quality. There a free tool online you can try if you want to avoid the cost of the app - www.rgb2cmyk.org
iPad Calligraphy Thanks Nicole. I have the Creative Cloud suite which is why I’m trying to lower my costs😂 I’m great with AI, just not PS. Guess I’m gonna have to save some time to learn it. Again, thanks for the advice and your videos!
@@mychiccrafts Ah I see, yes it would make more sense for you to Photoshop for the color changes then. It's quite simple. Just open the TIFF file you exported from Procreate, got to the 'Image' menu drop down, and under 'Mode' you'll find the 'CMYK' option. Save and you're done!
It depends on the colours you're using and how close your choices were to the CMYK palette to begin with. Blues, greens and purples are usually effected the most, but it's not all that dramatic.
@@iPadCalligraphy Is some accurate color matching possible? Bigger problem is that a whole painting is a lot datker after print :( how to deal with that?
Try searching online for a CMYK colour palette. You can find swatches that are only CMYK matched colours. Pull from these when creating a piece and you'll get a closer result. Images will always be different between screen and print to some degree though. You're looking at back lit pixels on a screen and ink and paper printed - there will be a darker, duller feel. But if you use CMYK colour palette to start with, you'll get a closer match. Hope that helps!
hi, thanks for the video! i was wondering how to format procreate documents to sell as a digital print on etsy? is PDF/JPEG suitable for printing as well? I know people use those formats on Canva for printing and they are the most common ones.. thank you!
Hi Zoe! Thanks for your question... The JPEG format is more for digital work. A better format for printing would be a .TIFF file. I believe this is fine for Etsy. Here is some info I found which might help : help.etsy.com/hc/en-gb/articles/115015628347?segment=selling

Do you have any suggestions for finding a quality printing source?
1.99 print to size app
When you are about to export the file from Affinity, do I need to change the TIFF preset to TIFF CMYK, or is it already CMYK regardless?
I really need to know this too!!!
Can you see a change of colours when converting to CMYK?
Fantastic, thank you! ☺
Now I believe they have the option to change it now in procreate. Create a new canvas
go to color profile, and switch to cmyk.
hi, thanks for the video! i was wondering how to format procreate documents to sell as a digital print on etsy? is PDF/JPEG suitable for printing as well? I know people use those formats on Canva for printing and they are the most common ones.. thank you!
Hi Zoe! Thanks for your question... The JPEG format is more for digital work. A better format for printing would be a .TIFF file. I believe this is fine for Etsy. Here is some info I found which might help : help.etsy.com/hc/en-gb/articles/115015628347?segment=selling
TIFF files are so heavy and where I print they always ask me to send in PDF so I also wish I knew a better way
How do I size my canvases for creating greeting cards for 8 1/2 x11 cardstock?
Mary Wiedenhaupt hello sorry if this is late but go to the plus then there should be an option to make your own size. then you tap inches at the left side with w 8.5 and L 11. hope this helped!!
Wouwww thanks madam
Did I do the dl wrong. I only have 4 and you say 16 brushes.
I caught up with your useful information...until I reached Affinity Designer. Do I need this app??
Hey, thanks for watching. This video was showing how Affinity can be useful for changing to a CMYK color profile, which you need for printing. Procreate doesn't currently support CMYK, but word on the street is it will soon. So up to you! Depends if you need to print anything before the end of the year (which is the expected release of Procreate 5 which will have CMYK features). Hope that helps!
can i transfer procreate drawings to a non apple pc or a microsoft pc? i wanna buy an ipad pro because of the procreate ap but i have this delima of file transfer as i only have access to a microsoft pc.
I us Google Drive to transfer files to my Microsoft laptop
but then how does one get q an actual print from the iPad tablet?
you'll need to have an 'air print' compatible printer set up. You can find out more about it by searching on google.
I’m very lost to say the least
Oh no, sorry to hear that! Do you have Procreate installed? Maybe this video isn't helpful to you if you don't have the apps? Happy to further explain if you can pinpoint where you're getting stuck
Thank you so much that was so helpful
