    Some comments:
    On building cities -
    Walls. Walls are super valuable in any city that might be attacked. Not just for their presence in a siege battle but mostly for the fact it makes the enemy take a couple of extra turns to stop and build siege equipment before they can attack you. That gives you extra time to respond to what's happening.
    Trade Resources. Trade resources are very good, if you have someone to trade with. Some factions just have no friends and so will never make serious amounts of money from trade. Those factions should put much less weight on trade resources unless they have a compelling secondary function.
    Growth buildings. They're good, but the benefit from upgrading them tends not to be cost effective. The upgraded tiers of growth buildings only provide a small increase over the first tier for a greatly increased cost. Build them, leave them at tier 1, demolish them when the city can build everything you need from it.
    On managing Lords and armies -
    There absolutely are right and wrong ways to level up lords. Most factions should take their blue skills first until lightning strike (exceptions are those that have Stalk stance and factions that use many cheap armies like Vampire Counts). Legendary Lords that rely on magic should focus on that first until Arcane Conduit. After that focus on red skills for the units you plan to use the most of. Even lords that are going to be combat frontliners should take those skills last, they start off good enough.
    You don't need to park lords in cities. If you've got walls, you've got time to recruit a lord next door and quickly recruit an army of regiments of renown to march in and lift the siege. Save your Regiments of Renown for doing that. Every lord you maintain increases the upkeep of all your armies (except for Bretonnia), so having them just sitting around costs money you could be using to build things or maintain armies that are doing something useful.
    Ambush Stance. The AI knows everything. It can see the whole map all the time. That means it knows where all your armies are and will use and abuse that information to avoid superior armies, snipe weaker ones, and gang up when it needs to. But it can't see armies in ambush stance. That means it will do foolish things in their presence. Things like siege cities, start raiding, or just walk through them to get at a weaker one.

      How do you get so much money? I just got this game and basically my income peaks at around 2k per turn. From then on, it keeps getting less and less and I can't afford my armies. Then an enemy will come and attack a city that I can't afford to defend and it's a downward spiral for me that I can't afford. edit: I should add that I always buy the income buildings in my cities but it still isn't enough and I always run out of money.

    • @AshenVictor
      @AshenVictor 4 года назад +5

      @@uberaustin777 It's hard to say without more context, but I suspect your problem is actually that you've got too many armies.
      You only really need one army per front you expect to fight on, and it's best to keep yourself out of unnecessary wars. (That also means avoiding alliances quite a lot of the time, they're just an invitation to trouble).
      Don't feel like you have to rush around the map finding everyone, expand slowly and only when you can securely hold what you take, trade but don't ally until you're very secure at home.
      Don't rush to confederate either. It's better to slow roll it and let the AI build up its provinces then get them at higher levels (excepting maybe other legendary lords so the AI can't ruin their level ups).

      Hello! I’m planning on getting the game, and this comment was very helpful. Does all of this still apply to the Skaven? I know they have some weird mechanics with undercities and such.

    • @AshenVictor
      @AshenVictor 4 года назад +4

      @@georgecalisti3894 Yeah, it still mostly applies to Skaven. Skaven are one of the races that don't need to worry about getting Lightning Strike on lords, so you can focus on other skills first. You don't need to worry much about undercities, pop them in very rich enemy cities to siphon a percentage of income, but otherwise you can kinda ignore them. They take a long time to pay off.
      One thing I will say though is that if you want to play Skaven you should also pick up The Prophet and the Warlock DLC, because that adds all their best weapon teams and makes them much much more powerful and fun to play (and Ikit Claw, who is one of the best lords in the game)

At multiple points I was confused as to what I should do in my situation (playing Vortex), which clan to wipe early and so on.

  • @YourCrazyDolphin
    @YourCrazyDolphin 3 года назад +4

    Worth noting with vortex rituals- even if lost, re-colonizing an involved settlement before the ritual is done will allow the ritual to be complete anyways. This applies to the AI, too. So if you're going to interrupt, attack them or buy an intervention right before the ritual ends, like 1 turn left. Your intervention will probably raze a single city, and the AI, although they'll beat the intervention, may not be able to get back in time to re-colonize the settlement before their ritual is done.

    I just started playing, and I went for Easy/Easy as I have no idea how to play and figured that would be the most enjoyable way to learn. My friend who started recently said he went for Easy/Medium and got destroyed a few times, so it sounds like it can be complex. Also got a critical success on my first hero assassination, didn't know that was the only way to permanently get rid of them.

    Make a separate cheap unit that all it does is surf the water and finds treasure. It gives massive amounts of money for vortex mode. Ports are also a huge amount of income so islands are ideal targets to conquer. Look for unqie buildings like with the White Tower of Hoethe, each region has a unique structure to its own region

      @@samhawkes6597 Yeah, some races have it better than others. High elves are the easiest for me. Personally, I tend to wipe out factions that up against game walls. So I'm not surrounded by all fronts. It's also easy if you don't declare war on more than one faction at a time.. I have a Tyrion campaign where I've conquered half of the elven isles, I formed either confederations or alliances with the rest of the elven factions and then we proceeded to invade and conquer all the lands to the south and west of us. I currently have 8 full armies under my control with all elite units. Again, diplomacy helps a lot.

    Thanks.

    • @TheDenshProblem
      @TheDenshProblem 6 месяцев назад

      I know this is late, but I can at least speak for Shogun 2. Yes, that build order still applies. I usually get one or few really developed provinces that become the hubs for army production while all the rest are solely focused on as much economic growth and happiness as possible without costing that much upkeep. The same strategy applies for the other standalone title Fall of the Samurai as well.

    Loved the guide. BUT i feel i need a guide that is even more basic than this.
    Like, where to press Y buttons to do X. The in-game guide is not that good, because, it gives you advices like "Put you lord in ambush mode", but does not clearly show me what button i need to press to put it into ambush mode.
    And Skaven Priest? came to my city. What does that mean? My public order was falling. I did not know how to interact correctly with this priest. I just tried to press everywhere around the skaven priest, and got something like diplomacy, and could offer a peace treaty, which they declined. What do i do then? How do i attack the skaven priest in my capital? I dont know.

      The tip on removing growth buildings when your city is at max tier only applies if the building provides no other benefits. Eg Empire growth buildings usually provide no other benefits so are useless at max tier, whereas if Skaven buildings also produce food, they may still be necessary.

      It's a balance. Each unit has an upkeep cost, which is the amount of money they cost to have around per turn.
      Example: you earn 4000 gold every turn and the upkeep of your army is 2500. That means you will only earn 1500 gold per turn in total.
      Perhaps you are buying to many expensive units to fast. I'll start doing livestreams and campaign play through's soon, but I'm busy with exams at the moment so if you need answers now I'd say you should watch a play through of the faction you're playing on RUclips

    • @Nigozik

      It largely depends on faction you are playing, some of them just have terrible economy and you'll have to deal with it. I'd advise you to play Tyrion as he has the easiest starting position and he just don't pay money to his starter troops with his upkeep reduction :D

    • @zombiegamer1069

      yes like the guys said it depends on your faction some factions like (greenskins, vampire counts, Norsca, ETC) dont have much income even if you build economic buildins especially on VH/VH difficulty but there are other ways to gain money or reduce the upkeep cost of these factions.
      the best way to know how to play with a faction is by seeing a vetern TWW2 player playing with this facton( Skip the battels if you want just see his campaign choices)
