    I just bought a 2020 with 1 mile and have drove it 404 miles from home to work for about a month and the gas ⛽️ line has move less then 1 mm!!!! That’s unheard of!! it’s a super car. I always get 35 miles of electric here in California. I add to mine the cross bars and some 19 inch rims and it looks dope... if you really think of buy one test drive one but make sure that is charge because when you combined electric with gas drives really comfortable and the way you can feel all the drive modes. Also it has only it’s not the fastest car but it is comfortable to drive on the city and highway no problem!!

      I have a 2019 Prius Prime, I charge it every night, usually have about 30 miles of electric to use. I drive to work each day, 17 miles, one way
      and run out of electric with about 5 miles to go before arriving home. I can go over a month or more without filling up with gas depending on how much I drive. When I’m driving around town running errands, I’m only using electric. I love it! Hope that helps!

      @@wdtbsat7795 You could drive it without ever needing to charge it (by connecting it to an electric outlet). It functions as a regular hybrid. You do need to refill it with gas. Charging it is optional, but if you are able to, you could drive up to 25 miles without using gas only using electric. When the charge drops to a specific level it functions as a hybrid and the battery is charged using gas only up to what is needed for hybrid mode (you won't be able to fully charge the battery using the gas engine, only the "hybrid" portion of the battery is fully charged, the "electric" portion won't be charged up).

    If you wanna go Hybrid + Ev mode - no doubt this car is the one to buy. If only just for the hybrid technology it has. Prius have come 5 generations and they have been consistently making a reliable hybrid Transaxle since the first generation. Just that outweighs any other disadvantages

    Hi,
    I am happy to fore ONCE see a mainly positive review of the Prius.
    Most reviews are WAY TO NEGATIVE in my opinion.
    I have just got my Prius Plug in (This is the 5:th Prius from generation 2 up to generation 4 I have owned).
    Generally I LOVE the Priuses, and the 2020 Plug In is no exception.
    The fuel economy is fantastic. The way I am using the car I can drive about 75 % on Eelectric and 25 % Hybrid mode and has a milage of 158 MPG for my first 550 miles.
    BUT, I don't understand why everyone is complaining about acceleration. If you drive smooth and sensible the available acceleration is more than enough. SPECIALLY in EV POWER mode where it is way better than in HV mode of any Prius. You don't save fuel (and environment) by excessive acceleration.
    Anyway. THANKS for a positive good review
    Nils in Sweden

      I own the Prius Prime 2020 and it's nearly perfect! Easily 9.5/10! During winter, here in Québec, it's a bit harder not to use gas, but luckily I need to refill the tank only once a month or a month and a half. During warm seasons, I'm pretty sure I can use electricity only if no major trips are involved. I bought my Prius last August and filled it with gas around November when cold season started.

    • @NilsKullberg
      @NilsKullberg 4 года назад +1

      Yup, another Nils in Sweden here, and I agree to the fullest with the other Nils above. I have now driven 37 000 miles (60 000 km) with my plug-in Prius, and I simply love the car. I have a 50+ mile commute to work (mainly highway), and my fuel consumption since the beginning is 4.4 litres per 100 km (53-54 mpg), and I honestly could not bother less with trying to be fuel efficient. Almost 100% of my weekend driving is local and done on pure electricity. I have a proper charger installed at home, which means that charging from empty to full takes 1 hour and 50 minutes. - I am a happy driver!

      The first hybrid car was built in the year 1899 by engineer Ferdinand Porsche. Called the System Lohner-Porsche Mixte, it used a gasoline engine to supply power to an electric motor that drove the car's front wheels. The Mixte was well-received, and over 300 were produced. The demand for hybrids began to wane, however, when Henry Ford started the first automobile assembly line in 1904. Ford's ability to produce gasoline-powered cars and offer them at low prices dramatically shrunk the hybrid vehicle market. While hybrids were produced well into the 1910s using the Mixte's technology, most sold poorly because they had higher prices and less power than their gasoline-powered counterparts. Hybrids soon became a thing of the past, beginning a nearly 50-year period where they were merely an afterthought.
      the Honda Insight came next, then the Prius.

    Great video, I know you touched on long commutes with this car one thing I think that you should be mentioning is this car does not come with a spare tire that's a important thing when considering buying a car, not that you would need it per say but I've been stuck on the side of the road with my 2014 accord hybrid and it came with a fix a flat, my tire damage was severe these hybrid cars have much thinner tires and my tire damage happened at night on a highway, if there was a spare I could have been back on the road in 15 minutes and had to deal with the tire the next day but that was not the case had the car towed to the dealership then had to take a cab home.

    Wow, I’m amazed you’re only seeing high-40s MPG. I’m seeing pretty much the advertised 54MPG on our 2017 ‘Prime. In cases when I can drive a fairly-consistent 60ish MPH, I see >65MPG, and in stop&go traffic, the engine is off ~3/4 of the time.
    However, MPG tapers off pretty rapidly above 60MPH, because of wind resistance, not surprisingly. On the wide-open Highway at 75MPH, I see 48ish MPG.
    Then again, I pretty rarely drive on gas around town. I typically burn about a gallon per month in town! And best of all, the Prius Prime is also very efficient as an EV: I’m seeing a long-term average of 4.6 miles per KWh, which is among the highest. The Tesla Model 3, which is one of the most efficient pure EVs, typically gets around 4 miles per KWh. The Jaguar I-Pace gets somewhere around 2.5. The Model 3 getting a little lower than the Prius Prime is not surprising though, since it’s a heavier, slightly larger, and far more powerful car. Even more importantly though, it has to road-trip (again, wind resistance) on electric, which will drag down its numbers.
    A lot of folks look at the Prius’ 0-60 numbers and roll their eyes. I drive ours almost always in Eco mode, and my experience is that, as long as you’re not looking for a sports car, it’s fine. It’s certainly not fast, but it’s not sluggish either.

    • @nodak81
      @nodak81 2 года назад +2

      He had the car in power mode the whole time so I'm sure that's reflected in his MPG.

    • @mr88cet
      @mr88cet 2 года назад

      @@nodak81, ah, yeah, that would make a difference.
      I almost always keep it in ECO mode, but occasionally Normal mode in EV in town. I haven’t noticed much difference in EV range between EV ECO and EV Normal.
      Definitely different on gas though! In ECO hybrid mode, it seems to be quicker to shut off the engine than Normal Hybrid.

Ok, so, I plug in every evening after work and drive about 50 to 80 or 100 miles during the weekday and probably a little more on the weekends. I plug in the same on the weekends, but, I may get home by noon or so and plug in at that time. I am now at 75.6 MPG and 38,000 plus miles...oh, I fill the tank with gas about once a a month when it’s about 1/4 full. I am spending 25% of what I did 5 yrs ago...standard Toyota oil changes and about $400 in cost to me since purchased new, so, figure around $100 a year...that’s extremely good to me! Tires will need to be changed in next couple thousand miles...I am very, very happy!

    I have a 2011 Prius II. I love it. A couple of things I would like to see in a review based on the experience with my Prius. How does the actual gas mileage compare to the meter on the dash. My meter always indicates that I got 2.5 mpg better than an actual division calculation of gallons vs miles when I fill up. Which brings up a second issue because now you have the plug in source for energy to complicate the actual mileage calculation. Not sure how to do that and how the meter deals with that. I do think that you sort of addressed that when you said the meter indicated you were clocking just under 50 mpg. But It would be nice to know your take on it as well if you have run across how the "equivalent miles per gallon is calculated. I think I am seeing 133 mpg as the EPA estimate of the combination of the battery and the gas. Lastly it would be reassuring if you could explain if their is one battery for the Hybrid system and one additional battery for when you plug in. If not then if you were driving downhill for a long distance (think Hi 5 from the top of the Grape Vine into lets say Orange county in the LA area ... my meter indicates I am getting greater than 80 mpg) would the single batter continue to charge the battery thus requiring less plug in charging? Anyway thank you for the nice evaluation of the car. You have great reviews. Oh and one more thing if you were to run across it ... if I install a 240 circuit should I install 40 amps or ? Thanks!!

    I have a 2017. I use a K&N air filter, use only manufacturer recommended synthetic oil, regular toyota oil filter, and oil additive by Lucas. Car used to be louder like you say about acceleration and driving, but the airfilter add really quieted the noise significantly.
    I think i need to change the spark plugs soon. I used to average 72 mpg with the bridgestone ecopias, changed to an all weather non-ecopia and my mpg dropped to 55. I want to get those ecopias again but i think i will do a slightly larger ecopia to help with nose clearance. Kind of easy to scrape.
    I have put a little over 100k miles on mine. Oil changes every 10k miles, i only use non-ethanol 88 octane fuel (works wonders), and need to change my spark plugs asap.
    Absolutely great car.
    One major downfall...no spare tire. I have a good TPMS safe flat tire fix and even some tire plugs incase im stuck in a bind.
    But if you dont mind getting towed to a tire shop, perfect.
    Suspension reminds me of how a cadilac rides. Kind of squishy but it works. Kind of wish it was a little stiffer and better gripping turns at higher speeds.

    As long as you can take advantage of the tax credits, there's not much reason to get a regular Prius over a Prime. The Prime ends up being cheaper for me by several thousand. One exception of course is if you really want AWD then the normal Prius is the only way to go.

Overall mpg 150,this includes a lot of electric mileage. Hybrid only is roughly 70 mpg on motorways(interstate) at 70 miles per hour. This car is no sports car,its built for efficiency.

    I have been debating getting a hybrid forever and for me you are just simply vastly overspending to save some gas while at the same time for all those years you have to drive a slow car sacrificing in almost every way. If you buy a prius it can't be about the gas savings $ unless you are a taxi driver. You have to love the overall car and accept all the shortcomings for something that wasn't exactly cheap. The real answer has to be full electrics - when the battery price comes down.

      Agreed, a car purchase should be more about *SMILES* per gallon, not miles per gallon
      My CPO VW Golf TDI gets close to the mileage of the Prius, yes the Prius still beats it, and is the better choice of MPG is your only deciding factor, BUT...
      The Golf gets great fuel mileage *AND* is FUN to drive as well, for my purpose, an enjoyable driving experience is more important than squeezing every last micron out of every drop of fuel
