Virginia Davis was adorable. My grandmother's name was Virginia also. She was about 5 years older than Virginia Davis was. I guess that was a popular girl's name back in the 1910s.
Wow! That was really good! And the scene at the end where the dog catchers finally jump in the truck while it's driving crazy on those curvy roads and then they go over the hill, really good for a 1924!
Marty McFly: Hey, Doc, we better back up. We don't have enough road to get up to 88. Dr. Emmett Brown: Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads. 😊
This Walt Disney creation from the early 1920s is exceptional. Walt's appearance as a dog catcher on camera is particularly noteworthy, considering his lack of prior acting experience. The film's content evokes memories of the classic Little Rascals films, which were prevalent during the same period, from the mid-1920s to 1940. The film's fusion of the little kid, Alice, with animated sequences likely represented cutting-edge motion picture technology for the time. This accomplishment showcases Walt Disney's exceptional skill in filmmaking during that period. However, an intriguing aspect of the film is the presence of the German language in the screen credits and title cards. This phenomenon suggests a possible origin from a film repository in Europe rather than directly from the Disney Library. Notwithstanding this, I consider this film to be thoroughly delightful. (◠‿◠✿)
One of Uncle Walt's early projects. Alice is a cutie, and she has a usual crew of kids, and a dog. Walt cameos as a dog catcher. Must be the Meyer family getting all the dogs back. This would be canceled in today's society.
Great channel , thanks for sharing all these wonderful movies. I would be grateful if you can add the movie Magic of The Kite 1958 ( Cerf-volant du bout du monde ) I can't find it anywhere, a lost childhood memory..
I don't know much English (this is a translation), but does anyone know what the reference could be for calling the leader of the secret society "high mogul"?
That adorable little girl with make-up on is... Well, adorable, but it's also kind of creepy. Seeing such a young kid with make-up crosses a lot of lines for us as a culture today. Really interesting to watch this kind of stuff and see how much has changed just in 100 years.
They were still figuring out makeup and lighting back then. A lot of trial and error, and inspired amateurism. I wouldn't read too much into the makeup.
@@billring99 I'm not reading anything into it at all, it's a film after all, and a cartoon at that... from the 20's, lol. I was moreso making an observation about my own delicate modern sensibilities, lol.
Virginia Davis (the girl) died at a age of 90 in 2009.
This is like the Little Rascals. Early films featuring children. Very well done for its time. 😊🏡🌺

Not only did Walt Disney direct this short, he acted in it, too, playing one of the dog catchers.

Love how the dog opens the door of the dog catchers wagon to allow all the others to escape 🤣😂 love watching these old movies that make you laugh 😂
And nobody is talking about the poor innocent dogs, that 100 years after, they are still taken to prison
if my calculations are correct, this was approximately 100 years ago
😅lol
I would tend to say you're right, plus minus 5 years or so 🤔
Alice: Hi 👋
It was 100 years ago!
I think you made an error in your calculations
Pretty cool to see this old flick. With a cameo by Walt in his early 20s too.
Great live action-animation! The first scene was a dig at the ku klux klan-and the dog 🐕 catchers got their just desserts! Hooray, Alice! 😂😂😂😊😊😊😊😊
Marty McFly: Hey, Doc, we better back up. We don't have enough road to get up to 88.
Dr. Emmett Brown: Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads.
😊
Marty McFly: Ok 👍
1924 Los Angeles 😊
This is 👍,Thanks 👋

It's not German, it's Dutch.
Alice: I’m English!
So when was the release date to the public ? It was July 1 1924 , so actually we’re watching something over a 100 years old.

Perfect , funny cute and silly.

Este corto de 100 años, apesar del tiempo,se ve muy bien.

Looks like they were really trying to copy Our Gang with this one.
With perhaps a bit of Fatty Arbuckle?
I'm just curious, how?

No one notices the KKK reference?
A number of the commenters here did. It was pretty easy to spot

Thanks forcthat 👍

It's a parody of Ku Klux Klan titles, such as 'Imperial Wizard' or 'Exalted Cyclops'.
Довольно страшная вещь
1924? 😮
My dad was 3-1/2 years old at the time.
My mom could have played in this film. She just turned 100 this year!
My jaw dropped at the KKK references!

Oh I disagree. I film a lot of recitals for dance studios with girls ranging from 4 years old to 17. The all wear heavy makeup.

☹Wasn't this a sort of racist cartoon?
In what way?
@@bobcoats2708 Ku Klux Klan were white supremacist domestic terrorists.
You didn't know that?
More like anti-racist, considering it's mocking an actual racist organisation Disney clearly wasn't very fond of.
