I came up with 25+ self-care ideas and project-adjacent activities to help myself relax, rejuvenate, and refill the well! Today's goal: hit BINGO. Summer's goal: clear out the entire board!
☟↓ QUESTIONS FOR YOU BELOOOOOW! ↓☟
    D I S C U S S I O N Q U E S T I O N S :
What do you think is an essential writer self-care item? What items would you include on your own bingo board?
What would you make for a WIP-themed meal? If you could have an interview with one of your characters, what drink would you make them? (And what questions would you ask??)
Do you find it hard to make time for self-care?
Are you into making mood boards? Do you have any tips/tricks for me? Bahaha.

I work a full time job and struggle with actually RELAXING. My hobbies are writing, knitting, crocheting and reading and I convince myself that because I do enjoy them they totally count as relaxing, when actually sometimes I need a break from them too. 😄

I've needed this video. It's summer, my SAD hits hard at this time and it's hard to get back to writing most days. Some things I would add to my board are:
    - Listen to music for my WIP/make a WIP playlist
    - Make a doll that looks like one of my characters (I use Barbies)
    - Sew/knit/crochet a new article of clothing
    - Buy a candle that smells like a location in your WIP
    - Library loan spree (pick up 10+ books from the library)
    - Set time to roleplay with my writing friend.
    - Style my hair and makeup like one of my characters
    - Dress up as if I'm from a fantasy novel (going outside is optional)
    - Knit/sew/crochet an accecory your characters would own.
    - Play record and don't do anything but drink some wine and listen
    - Go to the dollarstore with 20 bucks and make a craft with what's available (bonus it it's connected to your WIP)
I think with these ideas I'm going to whip up a bingo board... cause I haven't done a lot of these in a while!

Love this idea! Re the stamps, I highly recommend getting the clear silicone stamps instead of the ones on wooden blocks if you at all think you're going to start a collection of them. The silicone stamps store flat and don't take up space in the same way that traditional stamps do. (Although if you think that the amount of space traditional stamps take up would be a good deterent from accidentally ending up with a lot of them, that's valid too lol.)

When I was in my late teens and most of my 20s I could crochet with contacts in, but as the years pass I've noticed I can't wear my contacts that late and switching from near (my crochet project ) and far (the tv) I can't do anymore. It's harder to focus. The blanket looks good. It too me a long time to figure out how to do blankets like that because I'd alway miss or add stitches because I didn't count correctly.
I take a bubble bath most Sundays. The only time I miss is if I'm sick or over tired, or like now, I have sutures from a C-section and I can't submerge myself in water and I'm tired most of the time. It's something I look forward to every week and absolutely love it. September 1 I'm hoping to get the all clear from the doctor.

Crocheting a blanket is a interesting self-care item, being that's what all authors do anyway, we spin story lines into a tapestry of a story, good analogy anyway. As far as self-care that's all i do right now and occasionally pick out a project to work on at this point. I stopped writing a long time ago to work on the writing craft tools and techniques etc. . I basically had to being both rooms I set up to work in are full of storage right now, so concentrated on storing fiction writing tools in my head now. My rooms will soon be back in order in a few weeks. Roll the dice, is one method I use (Jack Grapes) Method writing fame, he used that to teach how to mix the descriptive elements of Image Moments (Over 5040 combinations etc. .

You know I have always considered my writing as self care. It has been sighted to help me with de-stressing thus helps my migraines. This is why I always make it a priority to take a break when I get mad at my books and screenplays.
When I relax I put on RUclips videos. Sometimes I watch videos where I learn things like drawing or bits and pieces about the film industry.
I do some painting sometimes. Mostly watercolor. I have acrylic paint too, but I don't do that so much because I don't really have space. Yesterday I sat underneath my desk painting a turtle and a fish. Only space available.
I also do some reading. For the most part I read non fiction books. I am currently working on Save the Cat (screenplay version, previously read the novel version). I am also working on a Norwegian book about writing. When I saw it I just had to buy it. It is nice to read a book about writing in my own language.

I make myself a bingo card for NaNo season. I always include stuff that I want to do to enjoy the season. I don't want to be totally consumed by my writing goal that I miss what I really enjoy, so I include stuff like pumpkin spice latte, or a long drive to enjoy the leaves, or watch a fall movie. I ALWAYS include "find another new song for the WIP playlist", though.

But yes, thank you for this motivation and self-care needs that I need to do more! It's good to see you around still!

I would have fun creating the bingo board, and making it look super pretty... but then never actually get around to clearing any of them. I love creating moodboards, and in fact, have all of my project moodboards as a screensaver to keep me inspired! I like using character related images, (personality, style, hobbies etc,) images which I think snapshot certain scenes or atmosphere in the novel, and I always include a quote I feel fits with the novel as a whole

Oh man, crocheting looks always so fun and cute but I don't have the patience for it 😭 It always ends in a disaster hahaha. Also the stamp looks super cute! I found a small stamp set with the alphabet a while ago and it's... somewhere, now I wanna go and search for it and include it somehow in my bullet journal!
Notion is great! I recently started using it. I've been creating a document for each chapter and I used some pictures I found to give each chapter an image to go with. So it's kind of like a moodboard? I've found it helpful to decide what kind of color scheme you want to have at the end or what colors you associate with your project. For me, it's been lots of browns and golds and yellows. Use multiple picture sources -- Google, Unsplash, Pixabay, Pinterest, We Heart It, whatever else exists. Sometimes changing the language for your search wields great results.

I love this idea! I definitely need to prioritise self-care more, it's kind of hard to find the line between what counts as productive and what counts as self-care sometimes though. Like writing and painting are technically hobbies for me, but I put so much pressure on myself to do well at those things that I don't think I should be counting them as self-care...
Also if you are getting into stamp-collecting, you should try carving your own too! It's super fun!

I did a mood board in Canva for my mermaid WIP. Made the background a color that could easily be matched in the color picker in the Personalize settings to make it seem more purposeful when I centered the picture if that makes any sense. It's a great motivator to see it every time I open up my laptop!
