  • So this is a very low-key video, but I finished my zero draft! And it’s pretty massive for a zero draft. 😮‍💨 I’m both excited and nervous to get to my revisions, but hey, one step at a time!

    CURRENT PROJECTS:
    “Pine Hollow” - This is my “cozy werewolf smut” series (term coined by Dolores Madil!) about a small town called Pine Hollow and the werewolves that are just trying to live their lives there. Slice of life, fated mates. Working on the zero draft of the first book-which was technically already written, but has been reworked/rebooted.
    “Project Matcha Latte” - Contemporary queer romance about a weird girl named Olive who falls in love with the cool and charming Theo, a nonbinary barista. Working on the zero draft. [ON HOLD UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE]

    Congrats on finishing! 🎉 I usually just write 1,500-2,000 word fanfics because I’m an under-writer. As for lip picking, I try to keep my lips moisturized as much as possible so I’m not tempted by the dry skin. I use Smith’s rosebud salve, it’s great if you like the smell of roses.

      @@evmg21 Thank you!! 💖 I think my overwriting just comes from perfectionism, trying to explain everything down to the last minute detail. I feel like 2k is a good length for fanfics though! That’s the sweet spot. And double thank you! I’ll have to look into that because normal chapstick doesn’t cut it.

    I had a cousin who picked her lips and then she got really, _really_ into wearing lip gloss all the time. From the looks of things, it worked - Give it a shot 😂 I'm so glad you've made so much progress since Camp Nano! ✨️ Oh, and your new tattoo is insanely pretty. Had to pause just to give it another look-see! 🫶🏾

      @@madebymalayka Lol thank you! Normal chapsticks just seem to fade too quickly and give me unfettered access to my dry skin, so I’ll definitely try some gloss instead. And double thank you!! 💖 I’m not very good at visualizing stuff like that, so I wasn’t sure how good it would look, but I’m so happy with it! 😭

    Congratulations!! You did it!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉 and I love the placement of your tattoo so much! also, lip picking is a struggle of mine too. I finally went to CVS and bought the biggest tub of Vaseline they have and started applying it coooonstantly. Like 10x a day haha. That finally healed everything so there was nothing dry to pick and the cycle finally got broken😅

    My zero drafts are my full draft so dont worry about the word count.
    What i love about a zerk draft is i just write and dont worry about word count. My 1st draft is where i will fill wholes cut or add words. Protect Blasphemy's zero draft was around 60k. 1st draft almost 62k. So far.
    Also congratulations 🎉🎉 on finishing your draft.

      @@Dolores_Madil That makes me feel a lot better! I don’t know why but it’s like I’m always worried that I’m “wasting” time on things other people do much faster/have a shortcut for. 😖 And thank you!! 💖💖

      @Dolores_Madil Месяц назад +1

      @aprilkayauthor yea my zero draft is my free of worry draft. I see it as a time just to vomit the words and tell the story I want. I'll worry about details later. Like ensuring it makes readable sense.
      I had to cut out whole groups of sentences in Project Blasphemy's 1st draft because I was like. What the fuck was I trying to say here oh well not important now. Delete.

      @@Dolores_Madil That’s so good to know. And so true, because when I was compiling it, I was on chapter one and was like “really? This long winded explanation is the beginning??” So I already know I’ll be condensing that as much as possible lmao.

    Thanks for making this video 😊. May I ask if typing and looking down at such a small screen hurts your neck or can you connect it to a larger screen to look up more? Just curious whether it feels comfortable for a long writing session or just short bursts. Hope you make a full and strong recovery from covid. Best of luck completing the story.

      @aprilkayauthor  Месяц назад +2

      @@nadenad6688 I haven’t really noticed much neck pain, but there was a time when I would write on my iPad at a similar angle, with it lying basically flat on a table, so it might just be that I’m used to it. And I do typically write in short bursts, which probably helps too. You can connect it to a computer via a USB, but then it basically just becomes an external keyboard. Thank you so much for your kind words!! 💖 And I hope I was able to answer your questions!

    Hol' up, what is this machine you're using?

    • @aprilkayauthor
      @aprilkayauthor  Месяц назад +1

      @@millie9814 It’s an Alphasmart Neo 2, a word processor from around the 2000s. It really only serves the purpose of typing plain text, and it’s good for distraction-free writing, so it’s one of my favorite toys currently lol. If you’ve seen any ads for the Freewrite Traveler (or Freewrite Alpha) from Astrohaus, the Alphasmart was kind of the prototype for devices like that.

      @@aprilkayauthor Wow, this is so cool! :o I probably need one, haha 🤣 And can you transfer the text somewhere?

    • @aprilkayauthor
      @aprilkayauthor  Месяц назад +1

      @@millie9814 It’s definitely really neat! You just can’t find them new, you have to buy them secondhand from places like eBay. 😩 And you can! It needs a cable, I think it’s an A-B usb cable, and you plug it into your computer and there’s a little “send” button to transfer it. It DOES go one letter at a type though, so it can take a bit depending on how much you write.
