    The hairstyle you're wearing in this video is definitely more flattering to your features than the straight style pictures you shared. I often find this to be true. More often than not our textured hair, whether WnG, TO, BO, afro, locs, is more flattering to our facial features than hair straightened to the point of other races.

      Hello 👋🏾! I agree. I feel like textured hair on black women looks the best. It was designed for us after all, so it doesn’t surprise me that these styles just naturally look better and compliment us more. I no longer chase bins straight hair like I did when I was younger. Cami! Totally agree with you on the no-silk-press vibe. Dodging raindrops and worrying about the humidity game? Been there, done that. The struggle of trying to DIY a silk press at home-major respect to those stylists with the magical wrist flicks. Active lifestyle, sweating it out, and the fear of heat damage? I get it. Water-based styles for the win! Twistouts are my go-to too. Got to embrace that natural texture. Also, the realization that bone-straight isn't the look? Totally get it. Healthy hair over everything. Props to you for putting your hair health first. Thanks for sharing your journey, Your honesty is refreshing.

    Cammy I don't blame you. I am Black-American and Cuban and I use to always get the Dominican blow out or Silk press. I got so tired of straighten my natural hair so I leave it natural. Makes sense. Sometimes I want to wear my hair straight because it means I save time or I can wear a hat in winter. But I don’t really mess with flat irons like that anymore. Even with heat protectant, the damage is but a press away. I suppose the pressure to straighten is still very much tied to the notion of femininity.

    • @CammyjOfficial
      @CammyjOfficial  11 месяцев назад +4

      I think the notion of straight hair and it’s association to femininity is directly tied to European beauty standards that were imposed on black women. Right now I have the itch to flat iron but honestly usually after I do, the whole excitement and novelty wears off within a day. There are times I would contemplate being a straight haired natural but usually after the 3rd day of straight hair I’m over it. For me because I’m not a straight haired natural it’s hard to maintain the straight look. My nape is the first to go as when I shower it gets wet then the front as when I wash my face. Then the roots get wavy quick for me then if I try to comb it I can’t basically as it’s kind of like when a perm starts to grow out and you have that line where 2 different textures meet. Will I say I will never straighten again, nope but I’d rather get a straight headband wig for now. I do like my natural hair I think I’m bored because i always have it in the same style for the most part just need to do more styles that’s basically it for me.

      Hello 👋🏾! The rain 🌧️ always summons itself when I get a silk press 😂. It never failed. Thank you for watching and commenting!

    Yeah I don't like how flat my hair looks with silk presses that I do myself, but I also don't trust anyone else to do my hair...especially not to put heat to it. So idk if silk presses are for me anymore either. I just need my blow outs to not frizz, and I'm good.

      Yeah I’m so afraid of heat damage. I have seen just too many videos of heads of hair destroyed due to heat. I love a good fluffy blow out too.

    Is there a particular hairstyle you don't do on your natural hair? I'd love to hear about the hairstyles you like to do as well.

      I can’t wait to watch 😆 and I personally won’t do the goddess locs or any temp loc style. I’ve had and seen way too many wrong installs with glue and the takedown a lot of times people cut their hair off or out by mistake.

      Hey boo!! Chile I done seen so many people damage their hair with temp loc installs. It’s always due to an in pore to take down 😞.

      Hey Cammy! I no longer stretch my wash and go hair styles! I use to be ashamed of my shrunken curls.. No more. I embarrassed my shrunken curls 😇

      I personally no longer do sew ins. They suffocate my scalp and resulted in tension alopecia for me . I sadly cannot do any form of box braids because it also pulls my hair no matter the size or length of the box braids . My scalp just likes to be free 😅

      I wore wash and gos off and on for a month and my natural hair took a major hit so I haven't done one in months. I think it was the products I used though so I may try something else before the end of the year. Any combo suggestions?

    I haven’t put heat in my hair going on 10 years. I love my texture and I feel that straight hair is boring for ME!

    You need to add some music to your jingle. Find a keyboard player and record yourself singing that intro song.
