Happy Easter! I've been asked many times to share how I hold my hook and yarn. How do you hold your hook and yarn? Do you do it in a way that you've never seen others do it? I'd love to know! x
I used to hold my hook like a pencil but I found that I was getting really painful hands and wrist. Since I swapped to hold it like a knife the pain has gone.
So few on RUclips seems to use the pen hold, but I do. I am completely unable to hold my hook like a knife. When I finally caught on that people held their hooks that way, I was really surprised. I tried it, felt like a monkey using eating utensils, LOL. It is very awkward for me, painfully slow, literally cannot do it, hurts my arm, but I hold my hook pen style, very loosely and back from the hook, but still using the thumb rest, doing all the motion with my fingers and I can speed along. I cannot use short handled hooks because they make me lose control, such as the Clover Soft Touch with the very short handle. I crocheted for years and years before I even noticed anyone held differently than I do, wasn't aware anyone did differently. This could come from being a master hand quilter since the 1980's, not really sure. What is great is that everyone can hold their hook whichever way is most comfortable for them; no one is wrong! That's so cool and we can do what is the best way for each of us. ~Cynthia

I had to really evaluate how I hold my hook😊I am self taught and have been crocheting for maybe 20 yrs now. I hold the hook like a baby would hold their spoon 😀. The hand with the hook does most of the work. I tried it your way and it was ok. My tension was much tighter. I didn’t realize I was a loose crocheter. Thank you for addressing this. It’s nice to learn other ways of crocheting.
It’s really interesting to see how others hold their yarn. I’ve notice several switch back and forth to help with strain (spoon and knife holding )- I wish I could !
There is no right or wrong way. I’ve been crocheting almost 50 years, and there are almost as many ways to hold your hook as there are crochet patterns.

Just here to reiterate what everyone else has been saying! I am so sorry that you had to deal with those issues, but yayyy for you and your perseverance!! Crocheting is very therapeutic 🎉❤
Experiment! For myself, I've tried both hook grips, but find that I have more control with the "knife" grip with less stress from hand/wrist movement. Also, because I broke my left hand pinky years ago (I'm right-handed), I cannot hold the yarn tension with that finger and have had to adapt, using my left ring finger. So, experiment to see what works for you. TIP: To avoid abrasion from yarn on your pointer finger, temporarily place an adhesive bandaid on that finger when crocheting. It works! 😉
Im so glad you mention is ok to have some pain/discomfort at the beginning, I didn’t want to give up, but my whole body got so tense 🥺 Thanks for the tips ❤️
Glad to hear this. My first craft was knitting. Did that for 45 years before learning crochet. I was so used to holding knitting needles that that was the only way it felt “normal” to hold a crochet hook. (Like a knife) I also loop the yarn around left pinkie, but then let yarn flow over top of raised left third finger, then do the work guided with left index finger. Funny how we all develop what feels/works best to get the job done. Thanks for the incite on this.
I realize you posted this 2 years ago but it was helpful to me as I learned the same method - holding the crochet hook at its obvious finger hold area (easier with the new hooks, I use one similar to yours with an ergonomic handle), holding the hook like a spoon or fork, and for the hand feeding the yarn, loop the yarn around left pinky and over pointer finger) from my Gran and Mom. That gets the job done and you can more easily kind of flick your hand a little or reloop the yarn to feed more yarn when tension gets too tight or reloop and tighten up when it gets too loose. The one bad habit I'm breaking right now is not keeping my shoulders relaxed and my elbows as close to the side of my body as possible, which usually means the arm working the hook is moving from the shoulder which isn't good for the shoulder. But I'm getting better at keeping my attention on relaxing the right upper arm and shoulder and not "winging' stitches when I do chain loops or cluster stitches. This change to keeping elbows at sides has made the stitches much neater and less stressful to my body and is an essential bad habit to BREAK. 🙂
I hear you on the bad habits - I get tense in my shoulders often and get a lot of pain from that. It’s an easy fix of relaxing but adhering to it is the hard part😆 Thanks so much for sharing 💕
@@PlayHookywithMe I've never tried tying my elbows to my side but visualize that whenever I find myself "air crocheting" with the right elbow moving out, Continued correction and repetition of the close to body elbow position will eventually become the good habit. Also just slowing down and taking a moment to relax and regroup helps, as I notice when I am in a hurry to finish a row/round/project is when my elbow goes out and my shoulders up. It's also easier to do sat straight with legs uncrossed and back against the back of the chair as that helps support the arms.
I’m thrilled to see how you how your yarn. As a knitter that’s how I hold my yarn. When I started to try to learn crochet all of the ways shown where so uncomfortable and awkward, I found myself having the most success doing the way you are. I’m so glad there is NO wrong way. My projects were much more even when I did my way. ❤
Great video. You’re so on point. No wrong/right way to hold a crochet hook, like you said, it’s what one is most comfortable with. Everyone is different with different personalities.
Ahhh, I have seen these amazing crocheted hold thier hooks very differently and the yarn as well. I thought I was doing it wrong and even my husband asked why they all are holding like that and I'm holding.....like you are. Glad I don't have to change.
This was great and I would love to see more! I am VERY new at learning to crochet. This was so helpful and loved the tips on the different hooks. Thanks 😊
Thank you so much! I just picked up crochet again after learning as a child from my grandmother. She taught me this method, but all the instructions these days use that index finger in the air, and that felt so unnatural to me. Such a relief to find this and know I can stop trying to change my style!!
THANK YOU! My original crochet teacher, who learned to crochet 90-100 years ago now, insisted there was only one right way to hold a hook and tension the yarn. Her way, the ‘right way,’ was very unnatural to me and I stopped crocheting because it wasn’t a pleasurable activity for me. It was probably 20 years before I picked up a crochet hook again. 🙁
A video on beginner tips would be fantastic. Even us "seasoned" crocheters can often learn a lot from "beginner' tips!! 😉🙃 Never too old or experienced to learn something new and useful! (I have a compromised pinkie on my left hand and have been trying various yarn holding positions, looking for a good workable one.)
It’s funny how it helps us feel better. I was the same way when I first starting the channel. I was told I was doing it wrong 😳 Nope - if it feels good and gets the results , then it’s right 👍🏻💕
I've finally found a way to hold my yarn that doesn't hurt my hand, ive been crocheting for over a year and have always been holding my yarn just with my index finger and it starts to hurt quite fast. Thank you for showing how you do it, now i can crochet longer!!
I got commissioned for a baby blanket! I finally learned single stitch 😅. I'm also working on a lap blanket for my mom, it goes from navy blue to purple (using chunky hand dyed merino, its beautiful) I've taken to using whatever feels comfortable at the time. Sometimes I use Boye aluminum hooks and other times I use inline (bates) wood hooks. I can't use actual Bates hooks because of the burrs on the hook point. With wood hooks if the tip is too rough for me I can get some fine grit sandpaper or a rough rock (I'm a rock hound so I have many rocks with various textures.
Congratulations! 🎉 that’s wonderful news!!! 👏🏻 I had to do this recently with one of my aluminum hooks . I used a metal nail file to soften a burr on the top of my hook that was scratching my finger too much. 😆 Thanks for sharing and congrats again on your commission 🧶👏🏻💕
thank you so much for this video! I use the clasp between two fingers hold on my yarn and it kinda automatically falls between other fingers and thats how I do my tension. I went to a crochet group and was told "Oh your doing it wrong." I felt like I never wanted to go back and for a while I stopped crocheting. I did restart but always felt I was doing something wrong...so again thank you for this video!
I’m really sorry that happened but I’m glad you’ve come back to crocheting 💕 if it feels good in your hands and you are able to make the stitches, that’s ALL that matters.
I hold my hook exactly the same and my yarn a little different, totally agree that there is no right or wrong about it; what ever works and makes the one crocheting comfortable is ok 👍 Love the tulip hook my favourite along side clover hooks 🌷 ☘️ ❤
You are terrific! Thank you for all the advice to give us. It’s very very much appreciated. My girlfriend used to bug me about the way I held my crochet hook until I finally held it to her liking, which was like a pencil!! That was 20 years ago!!!!!! I still don’t hold it the typical English way but ,who cares? I’ve made doilies table cloths, bedspread, all crocheted holding it like a pencil, but not quite like she would’ve liked me😊 to do hold it! ha ha, ha ha.😅
I love all the videos your making. My favorite is the finger crochet blanket video with the chenille yarn. I'm starting to learn how to make one of those. Thank you 😊❤️
Thank you so much for this video. How can it be wrong if you are happy and making beautiful items? Your video is helpful and important to all crocheters in that it helps for two reasons only. Please watch the video for these two reasons because it's to help you. Otherwise there is no wrong way. God bless you and I pray you have a blessed weekend. Love your channel and content. I always like it even if I don't get to post. 😊❤
Somebody just wanted to make a video!!! Use whatever technique is comfortable for you! There are also options depending on the yarn you are using and the tension you need for a particular stitch. For instance, if you have a yarn that splits easily!
Yes, Sharon, I did want to make a video , that’s why I’m here 🤨 Plus it was requested by many viewers asking how I tension my yarn. Maybe watch it and you’ll see I said the same thing , that it’s important to use whatever works best for you. 👍🏻😉
Thank you very much! It was very useful to me your explanation about how you hold your yarn, is easy and helps me make my crochet fabric fluid and even. 😊
I’ve crocheted for years and hold both my yarn and hook in my right hand as if knitting - hook is like a spoon and rests over my thumb, yarn over my index finger and under little pinkie. I’ve tried to hold my yarn in my left hand but work is too tight, I’m so slow like that and it feels alien. As you say though - whatever feels comfortable. I haven’t seen many do it my way.
Your way sounds really interesting. I’ve had a few others mention doing the same, so you are not alone! Exactly, if it feels good, that’s all that matters 👏🏻💕
Me too!! I have tried and tried holding the yarn in my left hand, but, as you say, tension is difficult and it's way too slow!! BUT, I do feel embarrassed and wouldn't crochet in front of other crocheters!! Also, a friend asked me to teach her and I didn't feel that I could as I couldn't teach her the 'correct' way to hold her hook and yarn......
🙌🏻That’s a great idea to switch positions! Good point, yarn weights make a difference. I notice with heavy yarn that I don’t even bother wrapping it under the pinky finger. 💕
Hi , I hold my hook and yarn exactly the same . That tip about changing the position of the yarn will really help with sensitivity on the skin on the top of my finger
I've always held my hook like holding a pen, it's bery comfortable for me. Holding a hook like holding a knife is too difficult and hard on my wrist. After crocheting for 46 years, I personally agree with you, there is no wrong way to crochet if you are comfortable and happy, rather you are a beginner or a pro. So, keep on crocheting and be creative 😉.
Yes! And I’ve had many comments where crocheters have had to change their technique to accommodate injuries etc. it’s so important just to do what feels comfortable, isn’t it? Thank you for sharing 💕
Thank you. I've felt as if I were not doing it right because I like to hold my work with my thumb and forefinger as you do. I need to get better at holding the tension, but that's what practice is for. :)
I use both ways of holding my hook. I too am self taught both knitting and crochet. I always used the pencil (spoon) hold until I had a commission to do 2 sets of crocheted hat and scarf for a made for TV movie. I was under deadline working fast and long hours ending up irritating my thumb base joint. So painful I could hardly finish the second set. I switched to the knife hold and was able to meet my deadline. I prefer the pencil hold but still use both on occasion.
I really like the way you said how to hold the yarn and hook I am a beginner to crochet so I am having a problem to single stitch. Can you make a video of that.
My mom taught me how to crotchet at 40 something. She tried to teach me how to do it this way, but it felt unnatural. So, I did it the way that it felt natural, and that is how I have been doing it ever since.
Most everyone holds they're hooks differently. I heard a experienced crocheter tell me as long as the end result is right. That's what matters. Make sure you weave in the ends, never knot them. They don't stay if knotted.
I'm late to your party! Firstly SpongeBob made me so happy! Secondly Your technique and instruction style 2 x 👍 Lastly please, please, please keep making these videos! Excellent! Your sense of humor is priceless 😅😊❤
I hold my hook and yarn the way you do. It's how I learned many years ago. I have tryed to do it other ways ,but always go back to my way. I was told I did it wrong. But not for me
Well after 40 years of crocheting I had to change the way I crochet only because I now have Basel Arthritis only in my left thumb...have been out of commission since Christmas day until the 1st of March...I'm only able to crochet for at least 2 hrs and at best only do one row and if I push 2 I pay for it the next day
@@PlayHookywithMe Well thank you...actually doing some research for natural remedies and just giving it some time...thanks for sharing, love watching your videos!!!!!!!
I have Only seen 1 person who crochets like me. People asked her.. She never noticed she was different..I Said YES ME TOO... I USE My finger and middle finger. It goes at my pointer finger then between that and middle. I try different but..lol. I'm so used to chunky bulky yarn that it's hard to go back to thin yarn..I APPRECIATE your Video.!!
I think they are probably very useful if you find strain in your fingers from tensioning the yarn. It couldn’t hurt to try one unless you aren’t having any issues. If you’re comfortable and getting good results , no point in getting one 💕
I will try this way because I get pain in my index knuckle from holding my yarn :( Wrapping around a finger feels super weird to me and its so hard to unlearn a way that feels natural, but I'm still gonna try because stretches just don't do much for knuckle pain
I hope you can find something that works for you. I know it’s very hard when it doesn’t feel natural. My daughter in law has the same issue with her index finger so I got her a crochet ring to see if that would help. I’m guessing it didn’t because I don’t see her using it 😆 but still , it might be something to try. 💕
My Great Aunt watched me crochet for a few stitches when I was sixteen then gave me a comment I will never forget. RUclips did not exist and PBS was not a thing in my day. I was self taught using a free booklet I picked up when I purchased the yarn and crochet hook. She said it looked like I was doing it backwards. I have no idea what that meant unless she held her hook in the knife position. Little did she know that it was her whom I wanted to impress with my work. That was 54 years ago and it still bothers me to this day.
So grateful thank you so much! My granddaughter was born yesterday 2 February. Crochet a sweater and bonnet Want to make her a couple of different afghans I always have a problem with color combinations wind up ⬆️ with gray n off white. So much yarn I must use and stop buying more. Lavender and a light pink b🎉the white triangle you showed me gave me an amazing choi😮 thank goodness
This is always so funny to me how I NEVER saw anyone crochet the way I do xD I feel no pain at all, I am a tight crocheter and my tension is always very comfortable for me and consistent. I am 25 and I was tought absolute basics when about 7 yo. after that I would just figure out things on my own. BUT I learned how to comfortably hold a hook and yarn myself and listen to this: I keep the yarn under my closed pinky and ring finger. Then the yarn comes out from between the ring and middle finger. and now the weirdo part: the pointing and thumb of the left hand I use to hold my work. I dont use my hook hand to yarn over. I yarn over by twisting my wrist over the hook. And as for the hook hand. I keep my pointing finger on the yarn loop to move it up and down closer to the hook part... how exactly it works??? I have no clue. All I know is I somehow came up with it as a kid, its super comfortable for me and I move my hands much more during the process than anyone I ever saw crocheting. XD Thank u for coming to my ted talk. This would make so much more sense for ppl if it was recorded xD
@@PlayHookywithMe Ok SO. I RECORDED IT XD. The recording is bad but I think it does the job. I want to add that I have been diagnosed with ADHD only few years ago and crocheting is something that I always love to do, when I need to pay attention but I am understimulated. Its the best for when I want to bingewatch a show or visit a friend and chat :D Keeps my hands occupied and my brain slightly occupied so I can focus on the other task!
I hold my hook like yours and have been crocheting since aage 13 (66 yrs old now) Reecently started amigurumi and find my tension is better when I hold my hook like a dinner knife. Having so much trouble with tension, mine is too loose. And I cant crochet or knit with yarn wrapped around my other fingers. Any tips?
Oh boy , that’s a toughy. I seldom hold like a knife so I’m not sure what could help your tension other than maybe pinching your yarn between forefinger and middle finger. Or a yarn ring that holds it for you. I got this for my daughter in law because she holds her yarn in the crook of her forefinger and she was getting stiff. She holds like a knife as well so maybe that might work? Keep me posted 🧶💕
I have never been able to crochet with the yarn wrapped around any finger. I seem to be able to maintain tension only by letting the yarn slide between between my index and middle finger.
Wonderful … I know what you mean. That’s how I work when I’m using thicker yarns. I haven’t been able to master that with the fingering and sport weight yet 💕
I find it impossible to control tension holding the wool in my left hand. My mom in law taught me to hold the wool and the hook in my right hand as if knitting. I've been crocheting for 50 years using this method.
Oh, me too!!!! And I feel SO embarrassed about crocheting in front of other crocheters!!!! Sometimes though I think that it can make my work lean to the left. It's okay when working first one way and then back in the opposite direction. Do you find that too?? I can hold the yarn in my left hand, BUT, I am SO slow and tension is a big problem. I do realise that practise, practise, practise would make it feel more natural, but I am too impatient and just want to get on with my creation!!! I wonder how many other prior knitters also hold their yarn in this more natural way when crocheting.........
I hold it just like you.... but it never stays around my pinky so I have to try and put the yarn on the outside of my ring finger then squeeze with my pinky.
I’m just learning. Bought my first hook and ball of yarn yesterday. I’m trying to figure out how to maintain my tension. I guess that’s what every new person struggles with. I’m just going to keep making a single chain until I get the hang of it and my stitches look uniform. Thanks for the tips. 🌴☀️🌴
Yes - this is the hardest part. Keep Trying different ways of holding the yarn and hook and see if one way feels better than the other. You’ll find the right way for you 🧶💕
I hold my whole right fist around the hook. While I agree that it doesn’t really matter, Im a guy and if I held the hook as depicted in many RUclips videos, it would look way too prissy. I’ve been crocheting in secret since I learned from my mom as a teenager 😁.
I hold it in the crook of my finger as you called it but it's the wrong why for me because my knuckle hurts after doing a lot of rows. My problem is i have been doing it this way for years and can't figure out how to retrain myself to do a different way. I don't feel like i have control the other ways and my finger get in my way. Plus feels awkward need help😔
My daughter in law does it this way too and has the same issue. 😕 I bought her a tension crochet ring to try and help give her finger a break. You can also make a diy tension ring . Do a search on RUclips , “ diy crochet tension ring” for a few options . It might help . I know learning a new method is really hard. I’ve tried different techniques and still go back to the way you see me doing it 💕

Its interesting your teacher has said it’s the “right” way because I’ve had countless crocheters tell me I’m doing it wrong (pencil grip) 😆 Please keep crocheting in whatever way feels best to you, otherwise it won’t be enjoyable for you 💕

@@PlayHookywithMe Ah, thanks. I learned from my mum. She actually learned what I think was continental combined style, from a russian lady in her neighbourhood. And I still don't know what to say to my crochet teacher 😂
The holding the hook like a pencil is synonymous with using the forefinger as a guide. This is uncomfortable for me because my mother taught me to use the middle finger as the guide so that makes holding the hook the other way right for me so like every one has already commented…there is no right or wrong way it’s whatever is more comfortable for you and that’s different for everyone. Happy crocheting!

(Like a knife) I also loop the yarn around left pinkie, but then let yarn flow over top of raised left third finger, then do the work guided with left index finger. Funny how we all develop what feels/works best to get the job done. Thanks for the incite on this.
Absolutely! Recently, I saw someone that holds the yarn and crochet hook in the right hand. It looks so fun ! 😆🧶
It’s an easy fix of relaxing but adhering to it is the hard part😆
Thanks so much for sharing 💕
@@PlayHookywithMe I've never tried tying my elbows to my side but visualize that whenever I find myself "air crocheting" with the right elbow moving out, Continued correction and repetition of the close to body elbow position will eventually become the good habit. Also just slowing down and taking a moment to relax and regroup helps, as I notice when I am in a hurry to finish a row/round/project is when my elbow goes out and my shoulders up. It's also easier to do sat straight with legs uncrossed and back against the back of the chair as that helps support the arms.
@@kathharper great tips , thank you 💕
I’m thrilled to see how you how your yarn. As a knitter that’s how I hold my yarn. When I started to try to learn crochet all of the ways shown where so uncomfortable and awkward, I found myself having the most success doing the way you are. I’m so glad there is NO wrong way. My projects were much more even when I did my way. ❤
Fabulous 👏🏻🙌🏻 Exactly. Whatever works for YOU is the right way 🫶🏻
Great video. You’re so on point. No wrong/right way to hold a crochet hook, like you said, it’s what one is most comfortable with. Everyone is different with different personalities.
Thank you 👏🏻🙌🏻🧶
I have been crocheting for 50 years, and this is exactly how my grandma taught me!!
Yay! I’m glad I’m not alone! 😆🙌🏻🧶
Ahhh, I have seen these amazing crocheted hold thier hooks very differently and the yarn as well. I thought I was doing it wrong and even my husband asked why they all are holding like that and I'm holding.....like you are. Glad I don't have to change.
Absolutely don’t change a thing unless you aren’t happy with your results and most importantly how it feels. Always the best guide 🙌🏻🧶💕
This was great and I would love to see more! I am VERY new at learning to crochet. This was so helpful and loved the tips on the different hooks. Thanks 😊
I’m so glad, thank you and noted 😀💕
Thank you so much! I just picked up crochet again after learning as a child from my grandmother. She taught me this method, but all the instructions these days use that index finger in the air, and that felt so unnatural to me. Such a relief to find this and know I can stop trying to change my style!!
Yes, please don’t force a change. It’s not going to improve your work if it’s not feeling natural to you 🙌🏻🧶💕
Your way is the right way.
Oh, what a shame, I’m sorry it stopped you from crocheting for so long. I’m glad you came back to it. Thank you for sharing your experience 💕
Agradezco tu comentario. 💓
Oh good! I’ll definitely work on that soon. I’m sorry to read about your pinkie, I hope you’ve found a new way of tensioning 🤞🏻💕
I crochet exactly the same way that you do and I must say that I am relieved to see that the index finger in the air is not the only "right" way.
Oh good , I hope it continues to work for you 😀🤞🏻💕
I have been crocheting 50 years. The only message I got from this that matters? Do what feels good to you, never mind how anyone else does it 😉
That’s the message I wanted you to get . Thank you for confirming it ❤️
I got commissioned for a baby blanket! I finally learned single stitch 😅. I'm also working on a lap blanket for my mom, it goes from navy blue to purple (using chunky hand dyed merino, its beautiful)
I've taken to using whatever feels comfortable at the time.
Thanks for sharing and congrats again on your commission 🧶👏🏻💕
thank you so much for this video!
I hold my hook exactly the same and my yarn a little different, totally agree that there is no right or wrong about it; what ever works and makes the one crocheting comfortable is ok 👍
Love the tulip hook my favourite along side clover hooks 🌷 ☘️ ❤

You are terrific! Thank you for all the advice to give us. It’s very very much appreciated. My girlfriend used to bug me about the way I held my crochet hook until I finally held it to her liking, which was like a pencil!! That was 20 years ago!!!!!! I still don’t hold it the typical English way but ,who cares? I’ve made doilies table cloths, bedspread, all crocheted holding it like a pencil, but not quite like she would’ve liked me😊 to do hold it! ha ha, ha ha.😅
Hahaha -you nailed it … “who cares!”

I love all the videos your making. My favorite is the finger crochet blanket video with the chenille yarn. I'm starting to learn how to make one of those. Thank you 😊❤️

@@PlayHookywithMe You are very welcome and thank you again. 🥰
Thanks so much! This has helped me more than any other video on how to hold my yarn in a comfortable way!
Oh good, I’m so glad 😀💕🧶
Watching you, is the way I do mine. If I have heavy yarn, I will use the knife method. When my left wrist gets tired, I turn my right hand more.
Oh good! I’m glad you found it useful 😀👏🏻💕
Thank you for sharing this helpful crochet tutorial ! 😊💗
Thank you! X
Absolutely, it’s just practice and repetition 🧶🙌🏻🤗

I use both ways of holding my hook. I too am self taught both knitting and crochet. I always used the pencil (spoon) hold until I had a commission to do 2 sets of crocheted hat and scarf for a made for TV movie. I was under deadline working fast and long hours ending up irritating my thumb base joint. So painful I could hardly finish the second set. I switched to the knife hold and was able to meet my deadline. I prefer the pencil hold but still use both on occasion.
Excellent , it’s so good to be able to switch when necessary 👏🏻👏🏻💕
Secondly Your technique and instruction style 2 x 👍

It's how I learned many years ago. I have tryed to do it other ways ,but always go back to my way. I was told I did it wrong. But not for me
Yay 🙌🏻❤️ There are more of “us” out there than you realize.
Actually twisting the left hand to present the yarn to the hook is very helpful.
Thank you for the video. I liked the explanation on the hooks.

What do you think of crochet rings? I see them pop up on Etsy, etc but they seem almost more work.
I think they are probably very useful if you find strain in your fingers from tensioning the yarn. It couldn’t hurt to try one unless you aren’t having any issues. If you’re comfortable and getting good results , no point in getting one 💕
You explained this so well! Thank you!
I appreciate it, thank you !

Ohhhhh , that breaks my heart . It’s amazing how these things can stick with us forevermore ❤️❤️❤️

XD
Thank u for coming to my ted talk. This would make so much more sense for ppl if it was recorded xD

@@PlayHookywithMe Ok SO. I RECORDED IT XD. The recording is bad but I think it does the job.
That is fascinating! 🧶💕
After knitting for so many years I can only hold the wool in my right hand in comfort but I don’t think you’d notice at the end of my projects
@@kimshayler4501 I know exactly what you mean about being embarrassed but just enjoy your crocheting, that’s the conclusion I’ve come to
I hold it just like you.... but it never stays around my pinky so I have to try and put the yarn on the outside of my ring finger then squeeze with my pinky.
Awesome 😀🧶
Holding my hook that way has never worked for me. I think we should do what is comfortable for us.
Absolutely! And that’s what I shared in the rest of the video 👏🏻

Thank you very much 🌷.
I’m just learning. Bought my first hook and ball of yarn yesterday. I’m trying to figure out how to maintain my tension. I guess that’s what every new person struggles with. I’m just going to keep making a single chain until I get the hang of it and my stitches look uniform.

I hold my whole right fist around the hook. While I agree that it doesn’t really matter, Im a guy and if I held the hook as depicted in many RUclips videos, it would look way too prissy. I’ve been crocheting in secret since I learned from my mom as a teenager 😁.
Hahaha , that’s great (too prissy 🤣😅)Loved reading your perspective, thank you ! 💕🧶
