  • This was the first time Barbara Walters interviewed Barbra. It was February 1975, just a few weeks before the "Funny Lady" premiere. The overall quality is only fair and I did my best to improve both picture and audio from my original 2006 video, but I can't do miracles! Hope you like it anyway.

    As a wee lad my mother's record collection was 1000s literally. I was shown how to care for them and the player and given free reign.
    Segovia, Paco de Lucia, AC Jobim, Bach, Mozart, Stravinsky, Prog rock from Mahavishnu Orchestra to Renaissance, Ray Charles, Randy Crawford, Cream, Led Zeppelin, Manhattan Transfer, Al Jarrett, Johnny Cash, Neil Young - a seemingly endless list...
    And I will never forget the first time I heard Barbra Streisand sing - EVER - just exceptional range, dynamic control, enunciation, tasteful colouration and inimitable tone...
    Thanks Mum ☺️

    After reading Barbra’s memoir, it’s fun to watch these old interviews. I’m 60 years old but I didn’t see this interview when it first aired. Thanks for sharing.

    I remember growing up, seeing Streisand on television was always a major and rare event. I actually thought Bawa's first interview with Barbra was the 1976 interview for the release of A Star is Born.

    I recently read Streisand’s memoir, and it’s fascinating that her outlook and opinions were fully formed even back then. The only thing she has since disavowed was that Jon Peters was ever in serious contention to direct A Star is Born; she said that he had zero experience, and she wasn’t going to be part of such a ridiculous charade. In this interview, I can only guess that she was trying to convince herself that it was a good idea.

    I like that you uploaded this on the 48th anniversary of the special, "Funny Girl to Funny Lady."

    What’s amazing is how little has changed for women…the story how they may be difficult….same questions asked in 2023!

    Thanks Gustavo! I haven't seen this for a really long time. I have all these older interviews on VHS tapes, but I don't have anything good to play them on anymore. I want to get them transferred to DVD, but I don't trust the VCR's anymore. I had one I was copying (thank God NOT Barbra's) and the VCR started to eat my tape! Oy!!

    Thanks for sharing. Barbra could have done more to correct the misconceptions about her by being accessible to the media....her resistance to access probably helped to perpetuate the lies.

      Her spectacular talent and being unconventional and authentic will be misunderstood regardless of how much access she gives to media. People see what they want to see. I’m glad she protects her privacy and lives an authentic life.

    So disgusting how they treated barbra for just having a point of view.

    Streisand has always been the top dog celebrity or when I was growing up so I think the media wanted a big controlling personality to match her huge celebrity. She has that drive but she has to with the talent - why give her the talent if she’s not going to use it and use it perfectly.

    Interesting. I didn't know she'd actually proclaimed on camera that Jon Peters would direct A Star Is Born. She pretty quickly backtracked on that, so she was at least smart enough to see he was full of shit, even while she was still with him. It'll be fascinating to see how she explains her relationship with him in her forthcoming biography, given that she eventually had to threaten legal action to stop him writing a sleazy tell-all book about her, and now that he's persona non grata just about everywhere.

    It always amuses me that Barbra spent her whole career complaining how the media lies and manipulates when it comes to coverage about HER. Yet politically, all she does is repeat the narratives created by the NYT and the rest of the corporate press.

      She has always been right about the media. And as for her political stands , she has every right to speak up against the government because she is a citicizen first. 💖✨

      @michaellt1281 Год назад +3

      shes not the only one who complains about media, because when they talk about people which is not news it is opinion and conjecture and nothing more. we all know that writers lie to get attention and create drama to get readers who are mostly women who care about drama. clearly politics and gossip are two different kinds of press one is based on facts other is based on innuendo.
