- "What happened in that box?"
January 11th 1973, on his way to buy milk for his siblings, 13 year old Paul Martin Andrews doesn’t notice a blue van is following him. Sitting in it is Richard Ausley, a dangerous outlaw on the run, and as Richard usually does, he simply asks Paul for help and offers him a ride. His story would end up becoming infamously known as “The Boy in the Box”, and 30 years later, Paul speaks up about it for the first time, as his captor begs for freedom.

What a courageous man, strong to have held that burden inside all those years...what horrible advice that therapist gave! He victimized him all over. A burden shared is a burden halved when it is shared with those who love you, give you room to vent it out, validate your feelings. He and the other two victims, I am so please for themvthat they were able to be heard, find a form of justice and keep that trash in prison. I pray that with his family he is now living his best life.

@Tyrone Yo Mom Gosh, it constantly sinks to new lows. I'm sorry you work in that situation. The only thing that makes mankind's justice bearable for me is this-
Ro. 12:19, Do not avenge yourselves, beloved, but yield place to the wrath; for it is written: “‘Vengeance is mine; I will repay,’ says Jehovah.”
Heb. 10:31, It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
I'm guessing that psychiatrist is a predator as well.
Heartbreaking

The psychiatrist who called Paul a liar and told him to never talk about his trauma should have their license revoked and be publicly shamed

“He was out on bail for RAPING ANOTHER CHILD” This sentence should never have to be said. No bail or parole for predators, especially child predators.
It still happens. Many just move states in order to escape from charges or reputation.
Too many Judges enjoy children themselves and allow this to continue.
Can't understand the thinking of these idiots who allowed him out on bail. They should be held responsible for their decisions and then you can guarantee that they won't be so lenient in allowing dangerous predators to be around vulnerable children or people so easily x
In 2012, the man who'd sexually abused me and my siblings as children for years was allowed to pay his own bail for his temporary release, during which he ended up committing suicide to avoid prison.
And this happened in Texas, one of the "strictest" states in the country.

He knew Martin wasn't lying. The question needs to be asked: why was he claiming he was lying - and why did he advise the family never to talk about it again?
@@jackspring7709 You R so right. Question has to be asked.
I wd reply that Maybe shrinks are involved in child abuse? or knew the perpetrator?
@@chrispict42 Yep - both scenarios occurred to me, too. He definitely had personal reasons - and he even admitted, (without realising it) that he knew the child was telling the truth when he said that its best for him that he not to talk about the experience. So even that statement alone proved the creepy old psychiatrist was admitting he knew Martin was not lying.
That psychiatrist is a disgusting human being. There is nothing worse you can do than call a victim a liar and minimize the horror they went through. Makes me livid with anger.
I don't know this for sure, but it feels like an early example of psychiatry defending the predator, of which we are seeing a lot more these days.
Prolly a pedo
While not being a victim of such horror Paul went through, I once went to a psychologist when I was young to speak about my problems and basically heard the same thing. That I'm faking and that I should "man up and put my shit together". And she did it in front of my mother (fortunately my mom is an absolute gem and stood by my side). Unfortunately this wasn't the first time it happened to me while visiting a specialist doctor. Because of this, I have heavy anxiety when I have to go to a doctor.
@@DarkButz Something similar happened to me once, though I was a bit older and by myself. I was speaking with them about my depression and things that made me depressed and how it made me want to act on it, and she said "I don't understand why that would make you feel that way. I don't understand why you would want to do that."
Had a few more sessions but ended up walking out because of the way she patronised me and belittled my problems. My sister had a similar experience too. I'm sure all psychiatrists are trying to gaslight you for some reason. For "results"? A feeling of manipulation and control over you? Idk.
95% of the therapists I saw as a child in the 90's, that's all they did was tell me my reactions to the traumas were my fault (sadness, fear, anger, etc) and that if I just dissociate/ignore the problems they'd all go away. I was even diagnosed with a behavioral disorder after I began cussing the therapists out lol. Funny part is, my behavioral issues resolved once I escaped my abusers and the therapists who perpetuated it. It's heartbreaking to imagine all the kids who were/are re-traumatized by clueless therapists
He’s got some nerve to call himself the victim of his victim 😂 and that psychiatrist is a joke

@@pyromaniacalmagpie3198 Yes, you are spot on, my friend! x
I think it was likely par for the course given the times. The only reasonable explanation would be that therapists' own homophobia, basically telling the child their role of victim was to be ashamed of.
I highly doubt the psychiatrist would say he thinks the boy was lying if he had only been beaten. It's the same homophobia that allowed two Milwaukee cops to comfortably continue their shift after returning a bleeding 14yr old boy back to Jeffrey Dahmer.
@@twinkle3026 It is common for those who need mental help to go into the field.
I'm willing to bet that the so-called psychologist had some predilections of his own.. What a horrible thing to tell anyone let alone a child!
I recently seen an old 2011 “I Survived” episode on this story. At the end, it said Ausley was denied parole in 2002, and then Killed a couple of years later by a prison inmate who had been s- abused as a child.
I guessed he was shanked when he said on 15:04 "suddently dies in prison."

I saw that too.

very chilling that angry, cold, dead stare. no soul, no light behind the eyes, just dark and evil
Yes. And the horror of him saying he would be his slave. As if his very presence could ever be borne, after what that child endured. It's revolting in the extreme.
Especially in my opinion the stuff he was saying was just weird. "I'll be your slave" " want me lick your shoes" has Hella sexual undertones. He could've said anything else but that's what he chose. Again that's just my opinion though
What a brave guy. The therapist and lawyers that said he was lying and shouldn't talk about it should be ashamed.
Ashamed? They should have their licenses revoked!! But we all know lawyers can talk sh&t all they want and make up false claims and defenses.
Ikr
Psychiatrists, after all these years, are (amazingly) still extremely trusted, regardless of the psychiatrist. Their OPINIONS are held as SOLID TRUTHS.
That needs to change.
Boomers.. entitled selfish freaks
Be ashamed? Hay I hate pesos too but USA law says everyone deserves legal defense and a layers job is to defend their Clint at any cost that is legal. Maybe no private layer may help but by law the court has lawyers on their payroll to defend the subject since our constitution says we are all intitled to a legal defence
Sadly, most survivors of violent sexual assault in their childhood end up taking their own life. Not only was this young man strong enough to live with the pain, he had the fortitude to fight for himself as well as track down other victims and give them the strength to fight for themselves and made sure that monster never got out of his cage to hurt another child. What a remarkable person!
I can’t express enough how happy I am that Martin survived. Like so many other survivors whose stories have been covered on this channel, he’s the reason why the monster who harmed him is in prison, and he’s the reason why other victims now feel they have all the rights to a voice. I am glad he survived and outlived his trauma and overcame all the atrocities in being called a liar and having to keep silent. You can see how his eyes shine when he speaks now and it’s such an amazing thing to see. If Martin ever sees this, the world is grateful for what you’ve been doing.
The fact that someone can assault a child and then be released is insane to me.

@Johnathan yea No true. This definitely happens in the EU, and here the death penalty has been gone for a century.

The damage that psychiatrist must’ve done to so many traumatised people is disgusting.
I'm so proud of the father for calling the cops on his son
Someone that would build a box to put children in and assault them deserves to vaporize in flames on television. Men should be scared for their lives to ever do anything like this to children. No matter the desire or impulse it should not happen. Anyone that hurts children doesn't understand the value of life.
And I believe that there should be a separate jail for these predators and rapist , serial killers to be imprisoned for life and left alone to kill each other , they will never know the pain inflicted on their victims, so let them
I'm surprised he lived they must have kept him away from general population because at the time he went in they killed trash like him.
And women predators too. They're out there as well.
Sadly they are not scared, they are just inconvenienced.
@@angelabennett8245 indeed real psychopaths dont get scared quickly
I wish I was surprised by what the therapist said to him but only recently has SA of men and boys been truly addressed, and only recently have men and boys been encouraged to speak their mind and learn to navigate their feelings and be vulnerable about anything, let alone something so serious (obviously thats not to say that its ever been easy for women to talk about their traumas either and havent undergone victim blaming). For him to not even be able to tell his spouse about his trauma broke my heart, I'm so glad that he came out about this and encouraged others to do the same and that he kept that monster behind bars until he died.
That monster was salivating at the idea of getting out. He is pure evil.
The strongest person I know is my 13 year old niece who found the strength when she was 5 to tell my sister that her stepfather was SAing her. He is still in prison today and will be for a long time. She was not his first victim, but she was his last. It takes a lot of strength and courage to speak out about this and I'm proud of every single person who does. I see you and I hear you. Your story is not falling on deaf ears.
I pray for my niece. She told her teacher and the teacher reported it. But they also called my other sister and that sister called my nieces mom. She told her bf and he ran to Mexico. It's sick to me that that sister Still goes to see him every now and then because his 2 kids wanted to see him. AND had the audacity to take my niece. I wish I could take her in 😔
So sad to hear your story. I hope your niece is doing well and does not ever blame herself for what terrible distress she went through. She was very brave speaking out but the truth cannot harm an innocent victim. Stay true to yourself. Regards Kerry

I love how he stressed the importance of not being ashamed of opening up. Such a common issue among male victims...
All victims
@@e_i_e_i_broes but especially male victims since there’s a stigma that male mental health isn’t important and the stigma that majority males aren’t raped/molested/assaulted. The world knows women are more prone to rape but that doesn’t mean many men are not.
@@Claireeeebearrrrr is there a stigma that males mental health isn't important?
I was only referring to how emotions like shame are used exclusively for male victims, as if every victim of such a cruel and unusual attack doesn't feel that way. That's part of why it's under reported in general.
Yeah male victims are more less likely to ask for help after being sexually assaulted by a man or woman
@@mr_frownyexe127 How could we possibly know that statistic, if they disclose it?
What an absolutely incredible man with such strength of character. That he managed to build a life for himself and continues to fight for other victims is inspirational.
Martin's words to other survivors genuinely made me tear up. "You've done nothing wrong and there is a life without fear." I'll keep those words very close to my heart.
I'm 48 yrs old now but when I was 8, riding my bicycle one late afternoon alone, a car pulled up beside me. A man stepped out and asked if I would help him find his puppy. He offered $30.00. I said no and peddled as fast as I could, continuing to look over my shoulder making sure I wasn't followed. A similar situation happened a year later. Parents should scare the hell out of their children, show them this case and others like it.
This is so extremely rare... don't traumatize your children with this shit.
I see your point. However it needs to be taught to our children in a way that is balanced. We don't want to make them SO fearful that they can't enjoy life. We can teach them that they can have boundaries over their body's and NOONE not even family members can cross them. Get to know who are in their peer group and their parents etc and have rules and that most importantly that they can always come to you with anything and that you won't dimiss or belittle what they are telling you. Have the open conversations at age appropriate levels.
@@awkwardautistic I found out about the "son of sam" as a child it didnt traumatize me it made me more cautious. It's better than being kidnapped or dead.
@@awkwardautistic it's not that rare at all. Men used to try and pick kids up in cars outside my school multiple times when I was young.
We were taught stranger danger but we didn't know what happened to children who were taken, just that they sadly often don't come back.
I was a victim of abuse in 1979 and the "therapist" at the time told me I was not able to deal with what had happened so I was told to put it up high on a shelf and leave it there. I did so. It came down of its own many times in my life, and crashed over me. It wasn't until a therapist many years later asked me who else my father tried to kill besides me; it hit me. No one had ever verbalized what my mind and body knew. I would've died that day. It has been my lifelong journey to live with that fact and it's repercussions and that my older sister saved my life. Please get help. No one should go this alone in silence. God bless
Therapists truly were useless back then and you can understand why old people refer to them as ‘quacks’
Bless you, I know how you feel. God bless and keep you, always.
Sounds like you have an incredible story to tell. I'm so sorry that you went through that, but glad you survived

This video was very hard for me because in 1974, when I was 8 years old I've been almost assaulted and maybe abducted by a man that lived in our neighborhood. Later that man assaulted 2 children in the county and spend only 15 years in a mental institution of the country I live in. Thus this video was special for me this man is very courageous to talk about his assault I still don't have found the strenght to explain my family what happen in 74 to me!!
He's pure evil. He'll never change. He looks at that picture and decides to not make the same mistake again. The next boy won't live.
He's been a brave boy and now is a good man.

13:42 if that’s not the look of a sociopath, I don’t know what is.
Selfish narcissist sociopath. He believed he was victim for being jailed for life. He was going to do it again during age of internet even worse that victim would be killed.
That young boy grew up to become a strong, compassionate courageous man. Some boys and men feel embarrassed and ashamed when they get abused in this way and THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE. It is no different to when a female gets attacked. It is amazing how paul has spoke out about his abuse. The more boys and men speak out about it, the better chance there is for a victim to see him as a role model and maybe give them the courage to speak out too.

It's incredible how long that monster survived in prison. You'd think someone would've found out what he was in for & take care of him
I knew him in prison....he was paying the most dangerous convict in the VSP for protection
I can't believe Martin was thinking of his mother's feelings in the box, that breaks my heart.
I was sexually abused in 1978 and talked about it for the first time ever in 2015. Almost 40 years of a prison cell in my own mind. Men and women like this should never be released ever because I got put in a prison cell a long time ago and I'm still not out of it just because I talk about it.
Im so sorry this happen to you, i bet those monsters beings do that cuz they knew is hard for victims to speak up, specially if victim is male since society is very macho like .... you are a survivor
well said.. wish you blessings & peace of mind
That’s a long time… for that person to still be on the loose, I wonder how many more fell victim.
You are incredibly brave, and it’s absolutely true. I was SA’d when I was 6 and blamed myself for years, chose to joke about it without actually facing the pain it caused. Only now 20 years later I’m forgiving myself for something that wasn’t my fault and facing the pain head on.
@@holymoses78 shut up. This is NOT how you talk to a victim.

As a victim of a child predator who was never brought to justice, I am so happy that Martin fought to keep this man in jail. My mother took me out if the situation but unfortunately, did nothing else about it. I carry the scars of those events in my brain and on my heart for the rest of my life.

The injustice of demanding from a victim not to talk about it is downright aggravating. Can you imagine? He was just testifying about the horrible stuff he went through and it was so horrifying that adults told him not to say it at all. They couldn't believe it was something anybody could do and yet this boy DID go through it.
I'm glad that in spite of the fear of his abuser, Paul pulled from his growing anger and frustration at the thought that Ausley would go free so he did something about it. Ausley may have been old but they knew he hadn't really changed. Ausley's statements directed at Paul were so disgusting. It just proved he never saw Paul as an adult. He was talking like he could finagle an answer he wanted from a man he victimized as a boy. What a monster.
Totally agree, the fact we focus more on the monster and less on the victims story is horrendous, not to mention he was caught so many times and let go over and over to reoffend is directly the incompetency of our legal system who should know by now repeat offenders will always get free and do it again, we basically set them free with an understanding that they can go do whatever they want and not pay the consequences
It’s our system I blame when the hell will they get the fucken message and wake up
How many innocent kids have to be abused and killed before the law wakes up
