I personally think the early B/W Ellery Queen were better wrote/thought out and even better acted than the series with JimHutton, Thanks for sharing this gem with us,
Great Ellory Queen movie; Thank-You! I grew up watching (and loving) re-runs of ‘MASH’, so was tickled to see that EQ’s Uncle in this movie is played by the same Actor who also played the Character of Colonel Potter - in that tv series! (He and My Grandpa had the same nose, dry sense of humour, great Heart, intelligence and shrewd Wisdom and Insight re Humanity. …I always enjoy his performances.)
@@c.l.j.jardell5811 Harry Morgan was in Dragonet. Even in "Frankie and Johnny", Morgan held his own against Elvis Presley. But in the TV series with Hutton, David Wayne did a good job too. His long-suffering but respectful tolerance of Ellery, who was called Dad not Uncle, shared the same residence instead of Ellery's bachelor's pad in this movie. The addition of Simon Brimmer in the TV series as the competent, but always mistaken foil added to the TV series. Ellery's highlighted forgetting where he put things made him more relatable and also presented an insight on overlooked clues.
Colleen Gray was a real beauty. I prefer Tim Hutton to Lawford. Peter Lawford looked much older than he was. Drinking and drugs do that, and he was never the same after JFK was murdered.
@@ruthmaryrose yeh, tim was jim's son, but i do completely agree - i loved jim hutton as ellery queen. (as for timothy, though, i loved him in the nero wolfe series.)
This may be difficult starting with 5 minutes of nonsensical introduction with James Bond style music. Well, maybe it can't get worse...or better? Well, the biggest mystery here is how they managed to get this up to 90 minutes to fill airtime.
I've noticed that Jerry Fielding sound elsewhere. I've always thought Gil Mellé was the mind behind the "Kolchak" sound. Maybe Gil only did the synthesized incidental music?
A rewritten movie. Inspector Queen, father of Ellery has suddenly become his uncle. Tall and nice Ellery becomes a short man who is now a woman chaser who slobbers all over them.. Seems like the writer never read an EQ book or watched decent EQ movies. Even the TV series was better.
"Ted Leighton" was the RedFlag pen name that Levinson & Link put on this after Universal's rewrite crew did their "magic". L&L got the property back a few years later, and they brought in Jim Hutton and David Wayne to do it right ... but that's another story ...
AH THE MAN THAT HAD ACCESS TO THE KENNEDYS MARRIED ONE DIDN'T HE? THE LATE GREAT RAT PACKER PETER LAWFORD 📽️🎬📺🎶 STEPHANIE POWERS GGGGRRRRRRRR ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hot dog and. Sour crate. Mmmm. A petzel. And. a ? New. York. !! City of. Crime. City of. David. Wilkerson Time Square. Church. Like seeing it back then. And. Twin. Towers. Before. 9/11
An entertaining movie, but yes, it would have been even more entertaining if "Ellery Queen" had nothing to do with it. Peter Lawford was seriously miscast as Ellery and it was distracting. He would have been fine if this was called "Chadly Warwickshire: Playboy Detective" or something.
Sorry never a fan of Peter Lawford The only thing I liked him in was the part of Laurie in little women the one with June Allyson Liz Taylor and Janet Leigh my favorite of the little women movies
Lol. That was the problem with water beds.
Great video
Thank you for sharing.
God bless
Super super thanx for the upload :-)

Peter Lawford alway struck me like the kind of sleazy guy that you’d never want to leave alone with your wife. I’ve reviled him since the ‘70’s.
Colleen Gray was a real beauty. I prefer Tim Hutton to Lawford. Peter Lawford looked much older than he was. Drinking and drugs do that, and he was never the same after JFK was murdered.
I think you mean Jim Hutton.
@@ruthmaryrose yeh, tim was jim's son, but i do completely agree - i loved jim hutton as ellery queen. (as for timothy, though, i loved him in the nero wolfe series.)
@@jucadvgv3449 Absolutely! As far as I’m concerned Tim and Jim were both the best in their respective roles.
Me too I love Jim Hutton and his son Timothy Hutton ❤I didn't think Ellery queen was British
this is a very nice movie Chris please upload more of the 1970s movies.
Groovy!
The opening is way too long. Very annoying
Ed Montagne was the producer behind McHale’s Navy, so no surprise that Bob Hastings (the TV reporter in this and Lt. Carpenter in MN) appears here.
Billy Sands another McHale’s alum is the first murder victim. He’s the movie projectionist.
Ahh, the Seventies, when they killed one at a time instead of by the score!

Am I the only who was wondering when Carl Kolchak would turn up when they heard the music? ;) Mr. Fielding obviously believed in recycling. ;)

Fast forward to 3:00mins if you want to get straight to movie :)
Even at that, it's 5mins before all credits are done... really irritating

I prrfer Jom Hutton's Ellery but Lawford does a decent job except Ellery is a New Yorker with no British accent and Inspector Queen is his Father
I'd gone back up. Locked myself in room. !! Pretty good. Movie. Any how
What diabolical crap is THIS?
Peter Lawford's 1971 hair needs some getting used to, same with that campy Hydra animation
Stephanie Powers ??
The computer era starts
The one with Jim Hudson as Ellery Queen is way better then this version
I mean Jim Hutton sorry everyone
Agreed I love the intricate plot of this tv movie, but Jim Hutton was definitely a perfect fit for the series.
Have to admit I do like Jim Hutton as Ellery, but Peter does pretty good also.
If you want to talk about being better in playing a certain sleuth... David Suchet was way better than Kenneth Brannagh or John Malkovich!
David suchet is the best ❤
Everyone is better than Malkovitch.

He looks too old.
Powers was never better. Stole the show.
OMG! Absolutely the worst Ellery Queen ever.
Good script but agreed Peter Lawford was not right for the part.
