Hawkins is an American legal drama and murder mystery television series which aired for one season on CBS from 1973 and 1974. The series starred James Stewart as rural-bred lawyer Billy Jim Hawkins, who investigated the cases in which he was involved.
Billy Jim Hawkins had given up his position as a deputy district attorney and opened a small-town private law practice in the fictional town of Beauville, West Virginia. Despite the rural, small-town location of his law office, fancy clients from all over the United States come to him for a legal defense in murder cases. Hawkins has a pleasant, homespun manner and speaks slowly, but underneath this unassuming demeanor he is a shrewd and determined defense lawyer. He travels widely to investigate the cases he takes on, seeking evidence that will clear his clients and identify the real murderers. His cousin R. J. Hawkins travels with him and assists him in his investigations
And I had never seen this show before either…. Just watched the 1st and was really impressed. Anything with Jimmy Stewart…. Looking forward to seeing the rest of them. 😊
Thank you for watching
All 8 episodes are good. I bought the box set because I'm a Jimmy Stewart collector. I saw every movie of his, so to see these for the first time 2023 was a treat for me.
Nice to have dialogue in a film 😊
35:35 *"I have another kind of poison in me .... Bums turn me on. I shouldn't even shake hands with them."*
Script is good. Why don't I ever remember this series?
I vaguely remember it being announced but somehow I never saw it either.
I just looked up the history of the show and I can see why I don't remember it. It was one of those rotating "wheel" series like Mcloud and Columbo only instead of NBC, it aired Tuesdays on CBS and seems to have only alternated with the Shaft tv series. Also it began at 9:30 pm. I did manage to catch one episode of Shaft back then but I never saw Hawkins.
I think the reason so many people don't recall this series is because not only did it last only one season (1973-74) but it only aired ever third week (rotating with "Shaft' & made for TV movies).
Talk about coincidences. Just before watching this show I watched "The Gift of Love" starring Marie Osmond and Timothy Bottoms from 1978. The story was about O. Henry's "The Gift of the Magi" as explained by James Stewart in this show.
Marie Osmond is Amazing Lady!!
LOVE All OSMONDS ..
RJ Played character , Jd Flowers , Episode of Rockford Files ; Lady played on episode Of Matlock…
I had never seen this show before. I have watched episodes 1 and 2, and I have enjoyed them. Thank you!
Thank you for watching
Yeah, me neither and the opening scene was so raunchy! for the '70's! I mean, the couple making out were, like, from ``50 Shades Of Gray'' or something; they were so rough with the way they were kissing, I thought that was the murder, like he was strangling her while she pulled his hair to try to be able to breathe.
Good show but weird music ugh . Jimmy is worth it
What was that music? Like Western meets clown show.
Have to agree. The music in this series was rather unmemorable & ho hum. Though I do like the cast.
@@charlesiragui2473 As I do when I take off my hat, you make a good point.
Good movie great ending.
Thanks.
Watched this years ago on tv. Pretty good.
Another fascinating episode. The homosexual aspect of the plot was certainly unusual for the time (the mid-70s). As always, THANKS for sharing with us! The character of Debbie Lane was played by Sheree North, who (along with Jimmy Stewart) would go on to appear in John Wayne's last movie (1976's "The Shootist"). Kenneth Mars sure was a hoot as "Lester"!
Neat looking hotel room. WAY better than the bland tan & B&W blah of "renovated" stuff since then.
Kenneth Star is always fantastic to see too. He does comedy so very well. Was spectacular in Young Frankenstein. 😊
Right On ! Kenneth Mars was also hilarious in an earlier Mel Brooks movie (1968's "The Producers").
Man, the 70’s got beat with the ugly stick!
@@angelamalek I always thought so even back then!🤣 The 80's now...
Excellent & insightful peek into the human soul at minute 22:24 : "Her mirror wasn't good enough."
I do have one major complaint about the script though. It presents a complete perversion of the word "love". Lust and obsession are not love.
I certainly have a notion to second THAT emotion !
I WONDER WHY

I see what you mean. I enjoy seeing so many familiar faces from movies & TV but I'm not really impressed with the scripts. I'm not surprised it only lasted one season.

I NEVER HEARD OF THIS BEFORE...
IT'S GOT TO BE THE EARLY TO MID 1970's.....
You're right. The series ran for one season on CBS (1973-74).

Indeed. The casting was good but the scripts weren't great. Love Jimmy Stewart & Strother Martin though. They make a great team!
