Great video man! I like the simplicity and clear instruction of how to complete this without any extra non relevant commentary that other you tubers tend to add. I’ll be attempting this today. Thanks!
Very good instructional video. Just did this replacement on my e39. However, the e39 bumper in this video doesn't have headlight washers. But easy enough to handle. But with these models being 20yrs old now, my washer fluid supply line was so brittle it disintegrated. If you have the headlight washers, plan on an extra hour and +$100 to replace that system while you're in there.
Hey there! I’m seeing this video is 11 months old, was just wondering if the fan is still running strong? The one in your link is significantly cheaper than all the other brands and I’d love to save a hundred bucks if the part is still reliable
Thanks for the video I used it today to replace my auxiliary fan on my 03 525 msport. Unfortunately for me I couldn't get the last of the 4 nuts off the lower left bolt. The bolt and nut were so rusted and the bolt just kept spinning when I tried turning the nut. I had to cut the nut off. I probably need to pull the whole radiator out to replace that bolt as there's just not enough room to get that bolt out.. Ugh. For now, I just zip tied the lower left side as the remaining bolt is too short now to put a new nut on it. Great video though!
This was a fantastic video. Instructions were excellent. I want to share a development that I experienced and viewers should be aware of since the e39 is getting older and corrosion sets in. The two 13m nuts holding the fan auxiliary on passenger side could become a problem (9:00-9:15). The bolt that these nuts fastened onto are not set and begin turning. There is no access to get to the bolt head. It wouldn't matter anyway as they are flat and round. I have no idea why these bolts are not welded to the frame. Long story short, I had to saw off the nut after failing to use an extractor. My bolts are still long enough to rest the new auxiliary fan in place but I need to figure something out to secure secure it. It is a total PITA , everything was going so smooth too. Driver side nuts were not problem. I believe this happen because this side is susceptible to anti-freeze getting all over place when bleeding the system.
Great video. Just watched this . It’s 2022 and I need to replace the aux fan on my wife’s 2001 525I. Question? Those plastic pop rivets you removed on the top.. can they be used again? If not do you know what size they are? How many did you buy and where. Going to attempt this repair but I want to have everything I need beforehand. Thanks so much for a reply and your help. Also anyone else in the know with an answer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! JR
Great video and tutorial. Does your auxiliary fan come on when driving or sitting at idle? Mine only comes on when I use the conditioner. Also your Amazon link says Currently unavailable.
Can you help me please. That “snorkel piece”, what is its actual name, eventual part number? Checked realOem, and my local supplier can’t seem to find just that part! Had it at a mechanic that has lost one bolt, and broken the item and the seal😞. 4:18 to 4:28
very helpful and i loved the video! Though I was wondering if I needed a new fan when my fan is weak causing the car to overheat and theres a leak through the cooling system. Do you any advice on a beginner regarding this issue? :) Thank you!
Hey! This is exactly what is happening to me RN lol, first the coolant tank popped so I replaced it only to find out the fan wasn't spinning at all so I'm replacing it thanks to this video!
Arianna Lerdo just got my first proper diagnosis for my car and it turns out it’s a problem in the engine (valve hitting, need new gaskets, etc). Glad you got yours figured out! Drive safe 🙌🏽
Hello today I forgot a socket in the front and dropped inside and fan destroyed it and a hizzing noise was loud like something leaking but not actual fluid u think I messed up the condenser??
Hi I have a problem in my car BMW E39 electronic fan front does not shut down continuously even when the engine is fully extinguished Is anyone help me and thank you
I like to keep my cars in factory condition so I probably wouldn't be too interested in doing that kind of conversion to be honest. It does sound interesting though, thanks
I typically show one repair at a time so they can be used individually as a guide or overview. Check out my fan clutch test video here (on an e39): ruclips.net/video/fqnvOYwfxbU/видео.htmlsi=iHMkj1yZpXSPiFuf
Yes it can overheat. Especially if the fan clutch has also failed and the car idles in hot ambient temps. The fan has dual purpose, AC cooling but also kicks on if it hits higher temps.
How weak can it really be though. My 2001 525i is 18 years old with 240,000 miles on it and still going strong. The aluminum saves weight. There are other materials used in later models, magnesium etc!

Thanks for video, another brilliant step-by-step tutorial - very clear and concise. As always, well done!
Great concise video. Super easy to follow. Just ordered my fan
Nice video! I am about to replace mine on a 525 M Sport. This has given me the blueprint.
Great job! Thanks for making this seem simple!
Nice clear and simple video. Thanks.
Thanks for the video. Very good and helpful.
Can't be better than this... Great job. Kool!

Good point! Yes if the lines break, it can slowly leak washer fluid over time onto the garage floor which is very annoying!
Thanks for those perfect instructions!
Nice video. Made it look simple 👍🏽
Thanks very much. Great straight forward to the point informative video
Thanks! Good video. I've had my e39 apart for months, been lazy about finishing it up. I didn't realize I was only 8 bolts from being done lol
Im doing this tomorrow. Thanks for the info and god bless me😂😂
Thank you very much for the video! It helped me a lot.
very nice video tutorial, we have the same BMW 5er, thanks guys👍👍👍
Nice video pretty helpful
Thanks for the info. Just did mine with your help.
Nice work. Just in time for Summer!
Had to have a cooling system rebuild on mine. That was fun.
I did the entire cooling system on this one as well, back in February. A real dream to do that one in winter!
perfect, thank you very much
''We need to losen the headlight a lil bit''
proceeds to yank it off completely. Lmfao 😂
Thank you
If this is not working properly will the car overheat ? because mine did and that fan i can se it doesnt turn ON at all
As a multiple E39 owner seeing your separate video of bumper removal I already knew that AUX fan DIY is incoming. These fans die so often.
haha yes exactly! I've done this job on several E39's I have owned, finally recorded one for the channel!
worked great for me. thanks for the effort to create and post. Sorry that I already had the fan so didn't use your links
James Maughan cheers James, be well
Great instructions. Can you list the tools required for the job.
Time to get a proper trim tool set!
thanks!!!

Any easy way to stop the fan shroud catching the fan ?

When you swapped your front bumper to m5 style did the shroud interfere with the wiremesh grill? If so did you trim shroud?
Thx for all the vids!

M Al Nayef what year and model?
Size of tools plzzzz ?
👍👍
Don't you check before replacement, many years of service work hard lessons taught me to do that before reassembly?
when are you doing a electric fa conversion on a e39?
I like to keep my cars in factory condition so I probably wouldn't be too interested in doing that kind of conversion to be honest. It does sound interesting though, thanks
@@BIMMERZEITT thank you for your videos
I did this and my new fan is not working either
It also happened to me.
And I fixed it
What about the fan clutch? You didn't replace that at the same time?

Can the car over if this fan is bad ? Or it's jus for ac?
Yes it can overheat. Especially if the fan clutch has also failed and the car idles in hot ambient temps. The fan has dual purpose, AC cooling but also kicks on if it hits higher temps.
Thank u very much bro
*me wanting to spin the fan intensifies*
exactly! lol
Why would anyone want an weak aluminum engine case and head on an engine, oh, I know so BMW can sell more parts.
How weak can it really be though. My 2001 525i is 18 years old with 240,000 miles on it and still going strong. The aluminum saves weight. There are other materials used in later models, magnesium etc!
