Given that, they still generally work as cars. Compare that to OCC's show bikes - beautiful creations that would be hell to ride more than half an hour or so at a time.
Another thing about Coddington cars that many don't seem to know. They had a propensity for showing up in Las Vegas car shows within a year of being built. Did the owner tire of it that fast? Unlikely. Were they junk? Probably not. Or were they in house self promotional builds with a third person fronting so as to get the name and pictures in the various magazines? That would be my bet. In regards to employees and rules, in Coddingtons shop there was really only one rule. That rule was work for a pair of jerks named Boyd and Duane without question and blind unflinching loyalty or get gone. Foose was always considered the arch rival since he left to go on his own. Charlie was a dick because he wanted to try and expand his limitations by joint venturing with Foose. Mike was disloyal because he worked for Foose on his own time. In the end though Coddington did the right thing. He died and made the world a better place.
I remember watching this show. Deadlines got tighter than the one they just finished and people had to work from before sunrise til after sunset and come in on weekends to get these cars finished. After a while people get burned out and stop giving a shit. Seemed like everyone either stopped caring and got fired or said fuck it and quit. Can't blame them one bit.
But he did have amazing talent in the workers he had. He just treated them like disposable shit...#1 rule: dont shit on the people trying to carry you to the top. Roy should have called the shots on this. Not Duane's dumb fucking ass.
He was and he used all his guys just to feed his ego. A good built car is timeless but a lot of his need updating. Especially that ugly yellow and blue roadster. I had Boyd wheels on my car in 95 96 and those wouldn't fly now days.
I need glasses. I read the title as "Trash gets fired." I thought that could only mean that Dwayne had gotten fired. Sadly, I was disappointed. Damn you, eyes, you raised my hopes only to have them cruelly dashed.
Boyd was such an ass, didnt protect or take care of his good help. All these guys are more successful without him. Roy and Mike were the rockstars of the show.
Lame, this shop isn't worth even going in for an interview in my book. Not that she was right for not showing up but apparently they don't take into consideration all the hard work employee's put in for them.
American Hot Rod really could have been something special...... I loved it for the cars, projects, imagination and 95% of the people.... Gezzzz, when I stumble across these memories it still fills me with sadness that he destroyed the hopes and dreams of so many .... Trish, I hope your career was able to prosper in a place where your skills were valued and appreciated.
You have an employer with high turnover. Coddington and Duane are the common denominators. What a ridiculous company policy. So if an employee got in an accident and were in the hospital and didn't call in. They would be fired? At some point you have to trust you employees has a legit reason for missing work and the whole F'n world doesn't revolve around you.
No kidding. As I recall, they were struggling to find someone decent in that part of the shop, and they go and do this so they can keep up their front that they are hard-ass about the no-call-and-you're-fired rule.
if she has been there longer than her probationary period its a wrongful discharge. Verbal warning, Written warning, then termination... Coddington never follows the employment rules. He is a crook.
Is it possible that Jo Coddington talked to Trish when she claimed she called in sick? We already know that Jo was the ONLY person that disliked Liz Miles and had her fired. According to Jo, Liz had a bad attitude, but meanwhile Boyd would get in full blown screaming matches with half of the shop. My theory is that Boyd's talentless gold digger wife was afraid of another woman stepping on her turf and took the call from Trish but didn't tell anyone. 10+ years later Jo is still stuck in her gold-digger ways, still riding Boyd's coat tail while pretending she was the one responsible for his success.
Boyd's pissed.. Nobody had any job security at Boyds.. He was such a suck-worthy human being. In the end his early death was justice. Perfect example of a talented artist thrust into a position of total incompetence as a business manager. In the end he left a legacy of a few nice cars, and dozens of horrible stories about his complete and utter ass-holyness as a human being. That prick he hired as "number one" manager too... He sure showed his colors as a looser in the industry after Boyds death. Oh well, time has passed, the wounds are largely healed, and the heels are still wounded.

@@leeturbo2008 Enjoy your B.M.W., loser boy.
Boyd Coddington was a hack car builder
But he did have amazing talent in the workers he had. He just treated them like disposable shit...#1 rule: dont shit on the people trying to carry you to the top. Roy should have called the shots on this. Not Duane's dumb fucking ass.
He was and he used all his guys just to feed his ego. A good built car is timeless but a lot of his need updating. Especially that ugly yellow and blue roadster. I had Boyd wheels on my car in 95 96 and those wouldn't fly now days.
No he wasn’t. Bit of a cocky prick. But not a hack.
@Dementia- Joe agree to disagree my man.
The only thing Boyd could build was a large pile of "SHIT"
"We have just 4 'girls' here".. wrong.
Correct- "we have just 4 hags here"
4 HOSEBEASTS
"I'll leave it up to Duane" - Boyd being useless as usual, be a man and make a decision
American Hotrod: How to run a toxic work environment 101
I need glasses. I read the title as "Trash gets fired." I thought that could only mean that Dwayne had gotten fired. Sadly, I was disappointed. Damn you, eyes, you raised my hopes only to have them cruelly dashed.
Boyd was such an ass, didnt protect or take care of his good help. All these guys are more successful without him. Roy and Mike were the rockstars of the show.
Now Boyd is in the ground. "Boyd Rottington"
Deservedly. With his flimsy reputation tarnished.
Boyd's dead......fired for good
That's why all your worker's are going to work for Chip Foose
When I watched that show I thought I never work for Boyd.
Boyd, "I'll have to start being an a-hole.... you always where brudtha.
Lame, this shop isn't worth even going in for an interview in my book. Not that she was right for not showing up but apparently they don't take into consideration all the hard work employee's put in for them.
Duane is one of the biggest problems with the shop. Fire him now.
Boyd had gold in his employees, one ass along with Boyd made that place terrible to work for. This man had Chip Foose as an employee
Looked like a real shitty place to work
That Dwayne would get knocked out if he spoke to people like this , he is a Fud.............
"Hey did you hear Trish got fired?" *awkward pause* Totally fed lines.
The whole show was more about who was getting fired next or quitting. Not surprised it ended
American Hot Rod really could have been something special...... I loved it for the cars, projects, imagination and 95% of the people.... Though that bloody Duane was like a wrecking ball in every episode.... Gezzzz, when I stumble across these memories it still fills me with sadness that he destroyed the hopes and dreams of so many .... Trish, I hope your career was able to prosper in a place where your skills were valued and appreciated.
Duane was Boyd's worst enemy/employee.
Mean and vindictive
A little rat
why didnt they just check the fucking phone records.
There would be no way I could have worked for that guy. Honestly after I didn't think he was all that great of a hotrod designer IMO at least
You have an employer with high turnover. Coddington and Duane are the common denominators. What a ridiculous company
policy. So if an employee got in an accident and were in the hospital and didn't call in. They would be fired?
At some point you have to trust you employees has a legit reason for missing work and the whole F'n world doesn't revolve
around you.
He said, " I gotta go back to being an asshole." He never stopped being an asshole.
I don't think general motors goes threw as many people as coddingtons shop, he must have loved training the competitions new employees
Roy should of had the balls to tell Boyd, “FUCK IT, SHE GOES I GO”!!!!
Anyone who stayed working under those conditions HAS no balls... 😒
over one day? give her a warning. shit
how fucking hard is it to call in??
+jquest43 exactly
RubentlyGarcialago nmkll
He had to have the highest turnover rate of any hot rod shop
Oh well, time has passed, the wounds are largely healed, and the heels are still wounded.
sure glad I don't work there.
If a lady forgot and was going to be in trouble for not relaying the message, you'd think she'd fess up, or just let the other person take the fall?
It's really sad that Boyd's employees had to lie to get a day off
Duane was such a brown Moser if Boyd stopped suddenly Duane would go straight up his butt. Everyone that quit or got fired went on to better things.
Boyd hasn't called in Was he fired too?
Duane, Boyd's little lap dog was the main problem, if it wasn't for Boyd(R.i.p.)nobody would've given second look at that skidmark.
Its clear that this guy has the man management skills of a nat ...its strange to note nearly every one has found work with other companies but where is dwane ??
Bullying your employees to get them to perform better and faster is a BIG mistake, that method will only result in losing people to the point of getting a bad business rep.
Every workplace has "that guy". Too bad that nobody could ever see that Dwayne was the poison pill.
Really Sucks that this show was known more for DRAMA and firings than cars
Duanne is one of those shop bosses who is drama queen
She should have only received her First Warning Notice for this first time being absent W/O calling in.
Going to get tough. He was so upset he did't even stop stuffing his face.
Happy employees is a happy business. Cut the employees, cut the business. Cut the business, cut yourself. Common fucking knowledge!
Word to the wise, Your employees ARE the business...
Bet if it wasn't for that Duane guy, no way they would have gone through that many employees
Trish is still alive, Boyd is dead..so who won after all?
yeah yeah Boyd,, and now someone finally fired you... GOOD... Who's butt is Dwayne kissing now?
Well he got finnished from west coast customs not long after Boyd died.
They were professional firer's.
Best thing that ever happened to her.
With that ass she won't have a problem getting a job 😊
How’s Hell Boyd
That was a rough place. I can't blame anyone for quitting. I notice that people didn't want to give two weeks notice when they want to quit.
I think from now on I'll start writing down names of people when I talk to them on the phone.
Who didn't get fired from there???...on the bright side...more people for Foose...
even his cars will burn in hell
i never really watched this show but i clicked on one of the videos of Boyd firing a guy and then in the suggested videos there was another one, and then another one, and then someone quits and then another one is fired. What the hell kind of operation is this?? LOL its obvious they had MAJOR issues at that place when this was filmed WOW!
Man a lot of people got canned from that place
A lot of good people got fired. I hired three former employees and they stuck with me during good times and bad. I liked Boyd and knew him for many years before his great claim to fame. His attitude changed over the years and I think he made a lot of serious mistakes, and he knew it.
His atitude after firing her saying the only person suffering will be roy cos hes gota do more..ignoring the empathy that sum1 just lost their job sums up that place i would never buy anything from such a cold heartless place
Go Dwayne Go. When it gets real rough, you will get yours "in the end" :) Kissy kissy and you get to keep your job, well kinda sorta. Someone is keeping book on you guy, so keep an iron in the fire you just may be looking for a job.
I bet this "policy" went into effect as soon as Yoko Jo heard about the girl not calling in sick. I saw and heard plenty of the shop guys going MIA.
I loved Roy. Old school all the way!
This is why boyd suffered before death....
Boyd was a wanker
Orange County Choppers was the 2-wheeled version of this dumpster-fire... Junior & Duane would make a great couple... 😙😂
I would send my 'Phone Bill' in showing I had phoned them along with a letter saying 'See U at the Tribunal!!'
Well just goes to show looks can be deceiving - if she didn't call in to let them know what was happening then she deserves what she got!...shame I would have liked to have seen Duane's face when she produced her phone bill!..and I believed her..lol.
I understand that he has schedules he has to meet by a good boss would give you three strikes you don’t call in that’s a verbal warning second time you don’t call and you get written up third time you’re fired.
I miss Roy, the guy was awesome.
Duane workshop manager. Couldn't manage to run a bath.
now that Boyds dead wtf is Duane....there was definitely a trend of people quitting an Boyd n Duane were clueless as to why...Imagine that
What a privilege place it was to work at
From all the things Boyd didn’t put up with, he forgot himself.
Employer of the year Boyd, kickin some butt. How’d that work out for ya,
Chips builds are the best !!
