Never a fan as he treated people like crap , Foose on the other hand survived and is my favorite car guy . Much respect for this down to earth car guy.
At one time, he DID build cars. He was a good designer, no doubt, By the time that show rolled along though, he had stopped getting his hands dirty, and preferred instead to just go out and hobnob with rich guys. His employees did all of the actual work. Then he trots the car out and says "Look what I did!". No, you didn't - the guys did. Foose on the other hand, still gets his hands dirty, along with everyone else. That was one thing that always bugged me about Boyd.
Didn’t you hear the narrative, he revolutionized bilay wheels! There would be no bilay wheels if not for Boyd! I hear he also invented the Bilet O Fish sandwich.
I know one of the guys that owned a company that supplied Boyd’s shop with a lot of parts for their builds, after he went bankrupt he left a lot of debt with a lot of people and ruined his already shotty reputation
Boyd Coddington may have been talented, but if the way he appeared on the show was reality and not a staged act for television, he was not a great human being.
@@jamessanders6788 I thought about what you said, and what I said is actually kind of messed up. @@jamesbowers5946 Good to hear. I am guilty of initial reactions that can be of the extreme bent as well occasionally. I am sure Boyd had a way of being a prick when it comes to things he was particular about, as I do recall the drama from the show. But remember this was in the early stages of reality TV and I can clearly remember thinking that most of it was an act for ratings and the producers encouraged it. It was rare to find a successful, long running shop where the owner and/or manager were decent guys. I don't know if that's a requirement for "success", or a byproduct of owning a successful business. Maybe it has something to do with someone with not a lot of higher education, running a business, so in order to be successful, you just have to be a slave driving jerk to your people. I suppose it could also be the end result of being in business and having to rely on people to do the things you want, your way, but at the same time, hiring the lowest common denominator in order to maximize profit... Which is likely to be a lose lose scenario (again, based on my experience). Not sure either way... But it's just my experience for the time I was doing that job. Once the business gets over about the 50 employee mark, they tend to be somewhat better, because each employee becomes a number, and less of a person.
