Simon, you missed off the keg credit return for the PD thus making the keg price cheaper and also you missed the out that the PD kegs can be changed out e.g. few pints of Franziskaner, remove, put a lager in and off you go, then put Franziskaner back in within the 30 days where the Blade 8l once its in the machine cannot be changed out. Great content though mate 👌
when i saw your blade review last year i got a blade ,its a great machine and its way better than drinking cans or bottles ,loading up and getting the light on at weekend makes for a better drinking experience ,boom time
Continental Europe have been using home draught machines for years intact the PD was released 2003 alongside the 4 litre Heineken beertender not in the UK mind but at least we have finally arrived
Great video, but one thing to add is that BeerHawk (Philips kegs) do a £5er back when they collect the old kegs, so it works out as very similar in price if you recycle!
Hi Simon You forgot to mention the keg return system on the PD and also the F/B codes that bring the price of the kegs down even more (you don’t seem to embrace it even mention this). My last order for PD I managed to get 3 kegs (31.5 pints) for £40.01 which is £1.27 per pint for draught beer and there is nothing that cheap on the blade !! Also is the blade really £200 better than the PD ?? Personally I don’t think so yes the cooling in the blade is better but so it should be it’s a commercial machine after all where time can cost money (especially in the hospitality industry). The PD has always been designed as a home beer dispenser hence the cheaper price and less efficient cooling system. For me I can’t justify £420 for a machine that has a limited selection of beer most of which are mass produced UK beers anyway. At least with the PD I’m getting continental top quality beers and with the keg return system cheaper then the blade. Until Heineken start releasing continental brewed beers on the blade (which probably won’t happen due to its commercial ties) and has a selection up there with the PD I’m happy to stick with my 2xPD machines and a Sub for my continental Heineken offerings. Joff 👍👍🍺🍺
I think this was a great review by Simon - I think all of your point is valid apart from the FB Codes - you can't add discount codes into it as they're not a permanent thing. £5 beer tokens yes but not FB Codes in my opinion. I have a Blade and a PD and love both of them. If I were to pick one it would probably have to be thye Blade but it is very close and going by Simon's humming and hawing before he picked one I think he thought the same. Both great machines.
Joff hall can you please tell how come you got so much discount on your kegs...if you buy 3 of the cheapest kegs like the stella and you get 15% off with codes and let's say £5 x3 for returned kegs, you are roughly looking at just under £30 pound off in total so works out about £60 for 3 stella.
@@maxsaunders5449 I've never had a flat Keg on either to be honest (couple of lively ones from both but not flat). As Simon pointed out the quality of the machine just feels so much better. Had amazing Beers from both so I'm more than happy with both to be honest :)
@@stevesmith2142 the PDGK group has a long serving (meant to be permanent) discount code for all members at 15% on 3 kegs, all you need to do is join the group to have access to it.
Hi Simon. Like a couple of comments below. You forgot the £5 per keg return on the Phillips system. Which overall makes the cost per pint cheaper on the Perfect Draft. Cracking video though. I watched this in bed at 9am this morning, and you got me thinking of pouring my own Franziskaner from my Perfect Draft too! Opted for black coffee instead. Bit early. 👍🏼
Great video Simon. If you buy a multiple of 3 kegs from Beerhawk for the PD and use the 15% discount code for being a member of the "Perfect Draft Kegs and Tips" Facebook group then I think once you factor in the £5 keg return and the Beerhawk beer tokens I reckon the PD is just as cheap if not cheaper than the Blade per pint.
Got the Klarnstien Beerkules for Christmas as I couldn't get the machines reviewed. I love it,simple to change kegs, great choice of kegs and pours a great pint
Great informative video as always Simon, the only thing I would say that you didn't mention was relating to the cost of the kegs, similar price for sure but the £5 return on the PD makes it probably very similar if not cheaper than the Blade. Great content as always
Good review. You for got to mention £5 deposit on PD kegs though which brings the cost down. I already have the PD but also added a blade which I purchased today.
I’ve got all 2 machines and blade wins by miles , the other 2 machines are cheap and plastic, they lack the quality also they only use cheap coolers, Blade has a proper refrigeration unit init
I have a Philips Perfect Draft. I personally think it's a gimmick. None of the pints I have pulled have had good head retention. I get the same head retention with a bottle/tin of beer. The reason I bought one in the first place was for better head retention over a bottle or tin of beer. I've worked as a bar man in the past so I know the importance of clean glasses etc. And I certainly know how to pull a pint. I'd save your money.
Are you using a widget glass I had a few pints of corona with the beer hawk glasses it tasted flat then changed to my moretti glasses that have lazer engraved pattern at bottom was a total different pint nucleated widget glasses
Enjoy your videos but this was very misleading, most importantly you get £5 back for keg returns on the philips which you don't on the blade, you also can get a 15% keg discount on kegs and beer token money when you buy kegs from beer hawk, additionally it sounded like you have to pre chill your kegs on the Philips when you don't, you'll just have to wait a while. I've researched both machines and the blade actually takes over 24 hours from room temperature as stated on their own website. The perfectdraft takes around 11 hours. If you pre chill them both in a specific beer fridge the philips can be used immediately but the blade still recommends waiting 3-4 hours.
@@freddiejones4598 that's absolute nonsense, there is no way it chills it that quick, even a kitchen grade freezer wouldn't chill something the blades keg size from room temperature to 2 degrees in that time. 😂
I bought the PD for the variety of beers but if the blade had had the same amount of kegs available at the time I'd of gone for that I think. However I'm very happy with the PD, it's a good system.
Lots of the craft breweries use the 5 Litre tins, especially since lock down. The supermarkets use the same style tin. Whilst the Blade and Phillips are good it is time someone brought out something we can use on the local craft brewery 5 Litre cans/barrels.
Thanks for your video. Great in helping me try to decide which to buy. Or is it strictly the purpose built kegs? Thanks again!
You also reviewed both machines a few months prior and mentioned that 8Ls is to much, almost as if you were raging the PD was better now you have made favourable points for the blade to make sure it won 🤣🤣
I was searching for comments on taste, which I am sure is as important as cost, looks etc. Which one pours the best draft if you had choose 1 (once both systems have cooled to their optimum temp)?
stick with the PD, excellent machine, greater choice, great deals on kegs, return credit on kegs and with a much superior customer service from Beer Hawk compared to Beerwulf.
Difference between BeerHawk and BeerWulf is massive at the minute but I think BeerWulf is going through a transitional phase just now with all the Blade Shop stuff now moving over to them. Hopefully things improve shortly for BeerWulf and we're all sipping beer when we want in future :)
