this is the best comment by far
Her gift is being the first Disney female protagonist with glasses.
Indeed. Finally after all these years.
hahhahahahahaha
And the 4th Disney Protagonist to wear glasses.
and she will be the first Disney Princess with glasses
Why is that a gift to Mirabel? 🤔 not trying to be rude
I just finished watching "Encanto", and I really need to say how relatable Mirabel is. Never being able to fit in, but also never being able to tell anyone. I always feel like this almost anywhere, and especially at school. This movie really gave me a little confidence about sharing the feelings I've been bottling up. This movie is 100% worth the watch
Very well said!

Disney Plus if you have it
@@m.m14 ok thank you :)
yeah
This was the first movie since Moana that truly felt like classic Disney. Every character, song, and scene was absolutely wonderful. I'm so happy that Encanto became as popular as it is.
More movies like this, please, Disney.
This brings back disney magic they need to keep to originals like moana need a sequel or the tv show of it coming out and waiting for wish to come out. I thought encato would be bad from this but I loved it and cried
Moana: Dark entity corrupting the islands
Raya: Dark entity corrupting their world
Encanto: Dark entity corrupting their house
I have a dark entity corrupting my sock
I have a dark entity corrupting my bank account
I have a dark entity corrupting my internet connection
It’s evolving, just backwards
I have a dark entity corrupting my toilet
You know its kind of refreshing to see a main character with no special qualities get treated normally by everyone, instead of being treated like an outcast or loser like you typically see in these types of setting.
Was that sarcasm?
For this very reason I also love Spirited Away!
Yeah too bad there’s probably a twist villan and disney cant get away from its copy paste formula. Im still watching it tho cause i love the cultural aspects

the protagonist might be adopted
At the end of the movie... You know my dear daughter why you don't have any magical gift...why mom?... because you are adopted, we found you near the river and save you from dying from hypothermia...
Ooh. That might make this story a tad interesting. Just a bit.
@@qwmx I know right... And a sad backstory of how she was rescued from some danger by the family...
Okay but imagine she was adopted and she feels sad or confused bcs she feels she is not part of the family and then she learns that it doesn't matter she was adopted but the love they feel for each other or something like that and THEN she gets her power
I don’t think you have to be a part of the family to get the powers you just need to live in the house long enough
As a Hispanic, I loved this movie! Everything from the music, the culture, and the way the characters spoke Spanglish was very spot on. The story was a bit tad generic but the unique concept behind it made up for it.
Disney never disappoints us with their music
Until this movie came out
The classics like you’ve got a friend In me, hakuna matate, can you feel the love tonight ETC. I’m not very fond of. But these Encanto songs are brilliant, can’t get enough of em

Her gift is being the "Dom" of the family. Everything is possible when around her, because family.
The house may be falling apart and failing with irreparable damage to all surfaces and foundations, but you know what we have? Family!
"Nothing more is important than family"
That's funny, because "Dom" means "house" in my language. So she was the house all along!

That’s because it is! They have the same voice actor
I love how 40% of the comments from teaser and trailers of encanto *back when it was just uploaded* are salty, saying things like the movie is gonna be predictable or how the story is just like any other disney movie. But then after the movie was released, everyone who said that ate up their words and instantly loved encanto.
If it wasn't for COVID, I'm pretty sure encanto would've hit the same box office as Zootopia (Billion sales).
Literally 😭
I didn't make those comments, but I saw it last weekend and probably won't watch it again unless my granddaughter forces me to. It was just okay to me and my husband. It's okay if not everyone is enthralled with it.
Maybe Mirabel is the only one who can complete the quest because she is the only one who knows how to live day-to-day without magic. And hopefully she doesn't get a magic gift in the end, just to emphasize her uniqueness in that regard.
Exactly what I was mostly hoping for, but I hope they do a little bit more with it and try to expand past the "you're special because you're you" plotline and explore the concept more. Though I'm calling it now there's gonna be a scene where Mirabel is at her lowest point and her family is gonna be like "you made it this far and did all of this without powers, we believe in you etc etc" and all that jazz
I like how you put that together. and the plot isnt reavealing with each trailer *cough* the croods 2 *cough*

We don't talk about bruno is by far the best song in this movie. Her gift is also speaking incredibly fast.. im like what! I dont even understand what ur singing in the first song cuz she speaks on speed 20.

@blisteringheightsofstupidity. probably not
@blisteringheightsofstupidity. definitely not, the moral is scattered all over the place, there is no clear main character, and the script is shit
Her gift was living in denial
Her gift is probably a metaphor for the house, she feels useless so it shows in the house? (The house starts to crack and work against her), so maybe her ability is to control the house or even some type of empathy power

This movie is so meaningful!!!!!
Disney really seems to start leaning into fantasy, action and adventure with their movies lately and as someone who love the genres, it’s a win for me
Edit: For those saying Disney movies have always been like this, these movies lately are much more action based and has much higher stakes like you’d expect in superhero movies
lately?
It’s a nice move. Especially for their parks bc it’ll bring more magic and variety to their lands.
That's..no. Their films have ALWAYS been fantasy and adventure since the start of Disney as a film making company.
If anything Disney needs to do more grounded and less adventurous stuff, it's getting tedious knowing the end of the plot of a film that has only 2 trailers out.
@@thecomplexion7524 you cannot be serious
do you even know what Disney is?
@@cinnamon-skateboarding5987 it’s only predictable for the Disney line but for the extended Disney family they make it less predictable like the endings of Marvel or Pixar movies. The main Disney line up has been predictable for years and it’s what works for them. The princess and the prince has been done over and over and now the heritage line is similar.
This will end one of two ways: she will realize that she does not need a gift, or she will discover she has the most powerful gift. Place your bets.
Could be both.
Both are inevitable, and I can also see a combination of these. She realizes that she doesn’t need a gift, because she already has one. That gift being love.
@@professoridiot26 Love is the most powerful gift of all.
Eh my bet’s on the second, last time I saw a story like this the character that didn’t have a gift at first turned out to be the reason why the world ended
I’ll go with… she has a gift but she thinks it’s not special or unique, but that “gift” helps to save her home and family’s powers, so at the end she appreciates her gift no matter how small it is or seems 🤔
I think her gift is music, because she plays the house and other instruments in the trailer, and it’s an easily overlooked gift that you need to work on. Plus, music always brings family and neighbors together, especially in Latino communities :)
The trailer didn’t do this movie justice.
I sometimes wish i can erase my memory and watch this movie again

This really means a lot. It's quite literally one of the only two or three mentions to Colombian culture in popular media that doesn't involve drugs, war, or crime.
Only possible with animation, as I understand, It’s all based in ‘magic realism’ which means … fiction, that’s what’s cool about it (plus it’s made by Disney) In reality, that country is indeed one of the worst, and most corrupt countries in SouthAm, it’s sad but it will always be like that.

I loved this movie. I saw myself as the awkward girl wearing glasses and not having a special gift....feeling outcast. But what I loved most about her was her tenacity...her kind spirit...her love of her family. Disney has a huge winner here without some of the old familiar trappings...and also I loved the end story line between her and her beautiful sister...yes! Focus on authentic expression and dismantle all the old structures that have been built on false hoods...illusions...fake beauty that is only skin deep. Our whole world spins on that axis...please help to collapse it...its hurting us and our children dearly. Teaching children to.be real and embrace all their emotions is a superpower!

"From the studios that brought you Moana, Zootopia, Frozen , Raya and the Last Dragon etc etc etc." It's like Nobody knows Disney, one of the biggest studios out there
To be fair, many animation studios (even the biggest ones like Pixar, Dreamworks, Studio Ghibli, etc.) do this all the time (especially to let kids know that an upcoming film comes from the same studio as some of the previous films their parents took them to see at the theaters). When I was a kid during the 2000s, my parents would often take me to see Pixar films because they knew I loved watching them and whenever I saw a trailer for a new film such as the one for Finding Nemo, I would see the “From the studio that brought you Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, and Monster’s Inc.” Reminders like that helped me to recognize and understand that this next film is coming from those same people, recognize the studio, and young kids aren’t really doing research to find out what the next film is or track everything since their parents are the ones to take them to the movies.
Just because it's owned by Disney doesn't mean it was the same studio team. Disney is a company that also owns LucasFilms/Star Wars and it's not like the the people who made Rogue One made Moana. What they really mean is the same people and studio (Since there are multiple studios and they're not known by a name, just by the productions they've made) who put together Zootopia and Moana also put together this movie and that it shares largely the same people working on it, hence why the animation style is a bit similar too.
I took that to refer to the team. Like they have different teams doing different movies at the same time.
@@ayonixanimations Ofc not. Rogue One was made by the Starwars team not Disney. Disney owning Starwars doesn't change much. Not like kids know about the Disney owning Starwars shit.

I wanna make a prediction and say that the main character does have a power. Her power is the house/magic like the house’s condition probably reflects on her emotions, seeing as how she didn’t feel special for not having a magical gift like everyone in her family does, she starts to lose her self worth (I think) which makes the house start crumbling apart. With each passing moment of her feeling bad it’s effecting the Magic. To sum it up the movies theme might be that even if you don’t feel special, just remember that to somebody you are special even if you have flaws or no talent. Just being you is the best thing you can be.

Me too. Although, it wouldn't kill them if we also had on old school villain in this.
Like how in Ralph Breaks the Internet and Frozen II, the antagonists were the protagonists' insecurities?...
That could work.
@@joaocharneca2119 twist villains are meh tbh and are mostly out of shock value. Although one i like was the singer on coco, mostly out of the eternal suffering he'll face from the afterlife and that the motive and action was actually gruesome to think about. but even then it's obvious he's evil from the start.
I won't mind a cartoonish villain but with the way the trailer and teaser is framed, i think putting an over exaggerated antagonist (whose only reason is taking the power so they would be powerful) would be out of place imo.
@@disneyfan8719 i was thinking more of moana tbh, (im sorry i havent wreck it ralph 2 and frozen 2) she manages to be a hero without hurting the "villain" she was supposed to defeat. Her conflict isn't only man vs nature and man vs man, but man vs self too (which i think is a great lesson to put in a family-friendly movies tbh. That i know is not rare to see or the likes but is not fully understood by the targeted demographic whether the execution is underwhelming or too complex, who knows).
My theory is her ability is tied to the House itself, so her own insecurities are what is causing everything else to fail. That or as someone who has never had an ability, she is the only one in the family who is able to solve the problem since they all became too reliant on their own gifts.
as a mexican myself we’ve gotten movies like Coco and the book of life its nice to see the Colombian brothers finally getting one of their own 🇨🇴🇲🇽
Well that’s all it’s about, just checking them boxes.
Now wouldn’t it be nice if Disney stared profits with said ‘brothers’🤷♂️
Aka pandering. Disney doesn’t care about people of any race, they just care about your money. 😂
@@AV-bz2zv just let people enjoy representation dude
@@bubby632 representation? You mean exploitation and using virtue signaling to make more profits.
I didn’t say anything negative, it was actually defending.
They are not “representing” anyone especially minorities or other cultures when 90% of it shows them struggling and having a hard life. Most people I know who are “represented” say they don’t like how they’re shown.
And a African American myself All we get is black panther, everyone else turned into an animal half way through of the movie,
It's been a while since I loved every song in a Disney movie. I've found the last decade of Disney soundtracks just don't flow into the movie as smoothly as past films. Lately half of them end up sounding more like sing-song dialogue, the lyrics just lack feeling and imagery. This soundtrack is back to form like classic Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid, Mulan level. Love it.
I watched this movie like 10 times already😂
Same lol

Has anyone noticed the potential color symbolism with the Family Madrigal? All of the family members wear a prime color, also depending on what side of the family they're on: Pepa's family wears all yellow, and Julieta & Augustine wear blue with Luisa in indigo. Plus Isabella and Dolores are the oldest child in their families and wear slightly different colors to contrast; purple and orange respectively. Even Abuela has red. The only color not present is green, which is what Bruno's color is.
The single exception is Mirabel, who wears a dress with the full rainbow of colors. I'll let you conclude what that represents.
Mirabel's glasses are green tho, and they help her to see. What other character serves an important role to Mirabel finding her way? Bruno.
I mean i think the film does a good job of basically saying that Mirabella gift is giving it to the next generation just like her grandmother gave it to the previous one
That's beautiful
I guess colors in her represent her whole family colors combined. 💕
smart
because pepa can literally start a storm i guess her family wears all yellow to make her think of sunshine and stuff to make her happy? idk thats what i think
When I first saw the trailer I thought it was kind of cringe, but as soon as I heard we don’t talk about Bruno, my opinion immediately changed :)
When you have a sister who looks identical to the protagonist, its the weirdest feeling ever. I couldn't help but see Mirabel as my animated sister. It's like my sister was acting as that character, idk how to explain. The expressions and way she dresses, it's uncanny! My sister is Mirabel!
even their personalities are similar. That's why she expressed a deep connection with this movie. My sister is passionate about changing the generational trauma in our Asian family. Like Mirabel, she is determined to change what isn't right, even if it's the way things had been done for many years prior.
Let me make a prediction:
The "theme" so to speak will be how "You don't need magical powers to be special" and then by the end SIKE! It turns out she does have magical powers and she uses that magical power to save the house and she is the most special one of them all and everyone will stand up and clap and respect/adore her now... This of course renders the whole theme about not needing magical powers to be special completely moot.
EDIT:
REVIEW: Ok I have now seen the movie and since I got so many replies on this comment I'll make a short no-spoiler review. It's basically a near perfect film, the music was good with a pleasant reoccurring rhythm, I'd recommend not listening to the songs before seeing the movie as they are "instrumental" in the story telling and character building. The characters were well written and although my precious prediction about the movie wasn't "completely" wrong the ending didn't undo the story or lessen the lesson at all. I'm quite happy that Disney tried some new ideas in storytelling, without using stupid things like a twist villain like they did with Frozen, they also skipped using a designated comic relief character/companion which is one of the things that usually bother me in Disney movies. I started feeling worried that she would get an animal sidekick but luckily that role is entirely occupied by the casa, which doesn't overstay its welcome. They did a good job utilizing all the characters and although I'd have loved to see more, maybe 20 minutes more, but I didn't really feel like there was anything missing and importantly the character I found was the most interesting ended up being well executed and had a good amount of screen-time. Just like a good meal shouldn't leave you unfulfilled, it did everything it needed. As an adult I enjoyed it quite a lot, and my 8yo niece liked it a lot as well. 10/10, I'm going to come back to watching this movie in the future I'm sure.
NEW PREDICTION: Yes, I have a new prediction. Because as every movie Disney have made within the past 35 years that have been good they will give it a sequel or tv-show usually not as good. The story in the sequel will revolve around how someone come to the Encanto from the outside world, of course it will be a young man (because OF COURSE the main character will need a love interest to have a conflict with). They will fight within the family again about weather or not they should open up to the outside or not and Maribel will end up leaving with the new person to see the outside. The new love interest will do something to make Maribel angry (like revealing the location of the town) and Maribel will go back to warn about it but. The super strong family member will be about to close off the path inside to the Encanto with her strength but is stopped by Mirabel and they finally make contact with the outside world and everyone is happy again. Though there won't really be any message like in the first movie, the sequel is made "just because" and many of the well written characters will be reduced to one dimensional caricatures of their original.
Wow i think the same.
Personally I think that they will realize that this magic isn't mean to empower one house and rather help something waay bigger.
@@stanislawignacy Oh yeah that is also an option "share the magic with the whole town" sort of thing, though from the trailer it sounded like they got powers from just living in the house and not because they were hoarding the magic. But they do have the magic candle they can use to enchant the whole town if that's the thing they are going for.
That's how they misdirect you.
It’s a good guess! I would be happy if she didn’t really get everyone’s adoration though. Rather, if they still treat her like family, but just a tiny bit more warmly. Cause I’d get tired real fast if I was suddenly very popular and everyone’s hero.

I don't understand how people didn't like this movie. It was so good, the storyline, the symbolism, the animation, and the songs - although I didn't like the Bruno song all that much but the rest yes.
Eh, it was just okay to me and I didn't think the music was that catchy like other Disney movies. My husband and I feel the same and probably wouldn't watch it again. It wasn't horrible, just didn't resonate with us, I guess. People like what they like.
Maybe because the characters have powers, people were expecting some big battle scene or magic mumbo jumbo like frozen. Or like some big baddie and they were disappointed it wasn't Bruno or anyone.

ikr, the Ice Age and Open season animation looks shitty today
Are you visiting us from the past? 😱
Old Disney princesses looked more realistic and like real people, than all nowadays female Disney characters who have oversized eyes and the same face, just with different hair/skin color.
But I truly love the shittier animation from the past. I prefer animation that isn't as clean, although that is probably in part because its nostalgic and what I grew up with.

She does have a gift! She loves her family the most and will do anything to protect them!
I'm thinking that Maribel's gift is that she is the one who holds the house together. She is the heart and once she starts doubting herself, it falls apart, like herself. I also think that her family members will have to learn how to deal with having no gifts and they will find they are still strong without them. But, of course, in the end they all get their gift back.
That is my theory but let's see how it holds out.
