About Raya and the Last Dragon:
“Raya and the Last Dragon” takes us on an exciting, epic journey to the fantasy world of Kumandra, where humans and dragons lived together long ago in harmony. But when an evil force threatened the land, the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity. Now, 500 years later, that same evil has returned and it’s up to a lone warrior, Raya, to track down the legendary last dragon to restore the fractured land and its divided people. However, along her journey, she’ll learn that it’ll take more than a dragon to save the world-it’s going to take trust and teamwork as well.
“Raya and the Last Dragon” features an outstanding voice cast, including Kelly Marie Tran as the voice of the intrepid warrior Raya; Awkwafina as the legendary dragon, Sisu; Gemma Chan as Raya’s nemesis, Namaari; Daniel Dae Kim as Raya’s visionary father, Benja; Sandra Oh as Namaari’s powerful mother, Virana; Benedict Wong as Tong, a formidable giant; Izaac Wang as Boun, a 10-year-old entrepreneur; Thalia Tran as the mischievous toddler Little Noi; Alan Tudyk as Tuk Tuk, Raya’s best friend and trusty steed; Lucille Soong as Dang Hu, the leader of the land of Talon; Patti Harrison as the chief of the Tail land; and Ross Butler as chief of the Spine land.

I’m glad that Disney is returning to making original movies after all those remakes/sequels.
They never stopped.
Didn’t Frozen 2 come out last year, and Moana the year before?
They can do both. Disney is a big studio. They were probably working on movies like this and Frozen 2 *while* people were complaining about the remakes.
@@kuyajonny1195 Actualy, the year before frozen 2 we had Ralph Breaks the Internet and 2 years before that we had Moana. Besides that, when they say original movies they mean no remake, spin off or pre/mid/sequel. And the last movie we had that qualified all of these is Moana that came more than 4 years ago.
I love the remakes other than Mulan but it’s extremely refreshing to get an original movie
The entire movie has this "color palette" which is mostly earthy, somber and the balance is the gold accent
And then there's the Awkwafina dragon looking like some My Little Pony kind of character with Frozen color palette........
exactly! feels out of place
Trueee
I thought they might have done that on purpose. If she is some kind of magical/mythical creature she should stick out from the rest of them. Meanwhile everyone else is of Earth and are what I assume to be less magical beings so they have a more earthy palette.
Though I wish they made her more dragon shaped then the mlp look she currently has. I wouldn’t have minded her looking like a dragon from httyd or something.
True....maybe they intended to made that contrast as humour.
Real worl meets fantasy. Its supposed to stand out. When your world seems dark you could always use some color.

But man my husband and I decided to put it on after another father recommended it to us. So we watched it with our daughter and man.... It blew my expectations out of the water. Thank you soooo much for not making it a musical. I went and looked up the work they put into this and the director (his debut film) purposely didn't make it a musical because he wanted a contemporary film. The filmmakers that made it based the culture of the movie off of multiple cultures from Southeast Asia. They visited the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Singapore and Vietnam. I have to say it was very respectable. If you, like me, are sick of Disney musicals, then you'll find this one a breath of fresh air.

Oh, so that's where all the charm of the Mulan remake went.
It's interesting that you say that because a whole new team worked the live action Mulan whereas the studio that is making Raya is made by the same (albeit an evolved version of the same) studio. Walt Disney Animation Studios has gone through many changes in management, storytellers, and animators over the years but ultimately it's a cultivation of people being told how to create a story by the same people going back through Disney history. Walt taught the 9 old men who taught up through much of the renaissance who taught up through today. It's a legacy preserving thing that ensures films which come from the Animation studio itself are able to stand cohesively with its predecessors. So it seems to me that the charm never really left. The live action Mulan just could have taken to pulling from Disney's animation department

As part of the Southeast asian peeps, I can really relate to the movie. The way that the culture from southeast asian countries in the movie shows how diverse we are but we can still set aside our differences and BE AS ONE. The movie itself is soooooooo satisfying. I watched it, and trust me, it is AMAZING!! I couldn't stop watching it over and over, this has got to be one of the most unique Movies' Raya is one of the Disney Princesses' that doesn't need a prince I really like how there isn't any romance or any songs, it has great action scenes, and the animation is realistic. It's a mix of Moana and Frozen. I'm not a big fan of Disney movies, but this made me LOVE Disney! I like how the little baby (Noi) has three monkeys as sidekicks, and Sisu is got to be the funny one amongst them all, she makes me laugh, and some of her scenes are HILARIOUS! All of these characters are great, and well made. This movie is so good, and so well made, I can't even wonder how long this must've took!
I rate it a ♾/10 ✨💞
Also, If you haven't watched it yet, I recommend you do!!

Nah I disagree the message was really toxic.
You know it’s from the studio that created Moana cause you can actually feel Moana vibes from this movie, from the facial expressions to the guy that looks like Maui
It's because this movie is about Southeast Asia and Southeast Asian culture aka Austronesia. Moana was about Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia combined. Our ancestors (the Austronesians) are also the ancestors of the other three combined. Our ancestors are the same. So expect similarities of appearance and culture (except the Chinese culture like the Chinatown at the beginning even though we were not supposed to be a descendant from the Chinese, due to migration and countless conquerings of kingdoms, we have a part of their culture in us).
@@areyoureadyforit2508 that’s so interesting to know! I was wondering why there seemed to be Chinese concepts in this trailer :)
@@iwatchyoutube3511 Chinese culture is obviously noticeable in us Southasians rather than those of Moana's. It's because we're nearer to China than them.
@@areyoureadyforit2508 Eastern Indonesian, and maritime southeast asia in general beg to differ
@@veevee8079 Well I'm not saying that Chinese culture is in fact a part of the entire Southeast Asia. I'm only saying because of migration and kingdom conquerings, China has been able to access some parts of Southeast Asia and they even call some parts as their own like Hongkong, and etc. Of course, there are parts of Southeast Asia that have never been touched by China. For example in the Philippines, The North and Central islands (Luzon and Visayas respectively) are highly Catholics but many Chinese migrants are spreading their culture here. BUT the South island (Mindanao) is highly Muslim and the Chinese people never had the chance to spread their culture there.
But in reality, we didn't descend from the Chinese. We descended from some of the aboriginal tribes in Taiwan. We are Austronesians and our ancestors are the Proto-Austronesians.

When disney ran out of animal sidekicks so they decided to use a baby
Weird cuz there's already an animal sidekick in this movie, the giant armadillo-pillbug-bear thing. And the baby herself has her own animal sidekicks in the form of monkeys.
No shit as a filipino I thought the baby is gonna be a tiyanak, a monster in a form of a baby that lures people in by crying.
And then they gave the baby animal sidekicks.

Watched it yesterday. One of the best Animation Movies I have ever seen. Not just because its so well and detailed animated (Textures are so realistic! ...and fluffy). Also the locations are so great designed! You could make wallpapers out of every single Cinematic Shot! Story was fun and felt like a journey with stops you really want to visit on the side of nice and lovely characters. Totally worth watching it! =)
They really should think about making a Videogame out of it or an adventure ride in Disneyworld.

Its so crazy how realistic every details and locations in this movie that only the characters look like animations, every villages looks amazing (Fang's castle, Heart's ring-like mountain, Spine's woods and the colorful market place of Talon). Best Disney movie I've seen in a while
I feel like people need to stop judging Disney movies based on trailers alone. The movie itself looked like garbage and had a boring and mundane plot with sub-par animation.
It almost looks realistic.
"I wish to join this fellowship of buttkickery."
Instant favorite character.
the baby isnt just random its from mythology
A toyol or tuyul is an undead infant in South-East Asian folklore. It appears in the mythology of Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Southern Thailand. It is invoked as a helper by shamans (dukun or bomoh) by the means of black magic. The creature is used to rob people of their riches, which is similar in nature to Babi ngepet.

Im a filipino and she is definitely not a tiyanak, a tiyanak is a type of aswang(blood sucking scary creature), a baby who died before even its christening, and those babies who died before their christening bowd to not let all other babies be christened by killing them or even haunting the pregnant women at night, idk about other cultures
