The 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Summit Is A Long Favored 3-Row American Luxury SUV

  • When the latest #JeepGrandCherokee arrived two years ago, #Jeep surprised a lot of people with the 3-row #GrandCherokeeL. The longer L model had an extra 12" of length compared to the regular #GrandCherokee and it was also built on a new Alfa Romeo platform underneath. For 2023, the L stays pretty much the same, while the #SummitReserve trim continues to be one of the most luxurious entries in the segment. Expect to find the electrified #4xe powertrain show up in the next year or two.

Spot on. A loaded Lincoln Aviator is also around $73,000 and has a 400hp engine. I had the Lincoln, which had more than its share of problems, and just traded it for a Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy, which cost $53,000. I also owned 3 different Grand Cherokee Summits with the Pentastar. I really liked them, but they have gotten too pricey. The Palisade is a great car. Until Jeep gets real on price, these vehicles will continue to live on dealer lots, not driveways.

I’ve watched hundreds of these RUclips vids on the Jeep GC L. Yours is the best I’ve encountered after purchasing a USED, 4,900 mile (let someone else take that $10-15k depreciation hit on this overpriced model) loaded 2023 Jeep GC L Summit Reserve with the 5.7L V8. We drove the V6 and it is underwhelming to say the least. In fact we would not own this vehicle with that Pentastar engine. That being said our fam loves this vehicle over our prior BMW X7 and Merc GL550. Your attention to detail and facts (other than the mistake about 2nd row ventilated seats which we have in the Summot Reserve) are to be commended. Plus your comments about the lagging Uconnect system is spot on. It’s a great system other than that. C’mon Jeep. Fix this. Uconnect will even get quirky at times confusing itself with another person’s profile or just switching screens randomly. Ours goes in for the backup camera recall (with which we’ve had no issues) on September 6. Hopefully that software update will fix some of the minor infotainment annoyances. You are one of the only testers to mention the Uconnect issue. We traded in our 2021 BMWX7 M50i and this vehicle is so much more user friendly and believe it or not mechanically reliable over the Hot Turbo V8 from BMW. The three things we primarily miss are soft close doors (which you mentioned), heated and cooled cup holders, and the loss in HP (357) & torque (390) in the hemi versus the 523HP/553ftlbs V8 in the M50i. The other plusses though such as Night Vision to spot deer, better massaging seats, easier 2nd and 3rd row entry, spare tire, etc. make this vehicle a much better option for us. We also love the McIntosh system being a home audiophile with a 7.2.6 McIntosh system in our family room. Thank you again for your honest and in-depth analysis.

Hello Sofyan, this is an awesome review of this Land Cherokee this car just beneficial to the family and for long trips, with seven seats can sit comfortably I like this car but Cherokee has shown a little gimmick here I haven't seen a passenger side screen maybe rolls royce would have given that function who don't know but they have been added little hard plastic 73 thousand dollars a lot amount however I liked American walnut wood design over the doors some of the functions are non-descript it's fine 10 or 11 inches display. Ironic, my mother got a new 2023 Grand Cherokee L with the Pentastar engine. Hers has a lovely sound with grunt when I test drove it. The mpg driving off the lot was 14.2 but driving home with her heavy foot 1 hour away, she got 25 mpg with every type of driving lol. Based on the higher torque and EGR system I’d say this Jeep is a win. Especially with its size. Felt quicker to me than her 2017 Grand Cherokee Limited which was no slouch 😅

Sofyan, this is in a class all its own. You being a car enthusiast should know the quirk of this car it's always straddled the line the L complicates things a bit.. The GC on paper may compete in both the mainstream and luxury segments which is funny because their pricing start where this tops out (lower tier no option sensatec uplulstry no off road ability at all and a little more power for their heavy SUV. Or you get a tricked out Grand Highlander and with both options the Jeep, Pentastar or not would be the one leaving them behind while they stall thinking their "SUVs" are capable of water fording or anything this can. Or do anything a minivan can't which begs the question.. Get a mini van!!!

Not an 'offroad' vehicle but great traction in snow and ice when i visit my house in WV i tried it on a few snowy and icy inclined streets and no problem.

Interestingly we bought our daughter a used low mileage 2013 Chrysler 200 last year as a first car before all the issues with the Jeep and the 200 has been problem-free, go figure.

Still a great vehicle, especially in terms of what it offers as class-exclusives(@Sofyan, the Summit Reserve in fact has standard rear ventilated seats, as well as front massage). The interior of the Summit is near the top of the class, only let down by the black piano plastic overuse.
Newsflash: Skip the 2023 and await the 2024 in a few months as the Hurricane will be available, as well as expanded 4xe availability. That said, when Sofyan was merging on to the highway, the acceleration of the Pentastar was appropriate for something of its size and power level.
Also, the mentioning of the Grand Highlander and price was odd, considering loaded versions of both are over $60K+, granted the GH will have more power...for now. As far as being overpriced, it still offers class-exclusive features and lets face it, Jeep GCs have never been cheap on the high end.
