I got this amp a few weeks back. So, versatile, It took me a while to dial it in for my taste. This thing is a rock! And all the gain you could ever use. Tone controls are def active...very little tweaking is audible. The hot channel is just infinite...add a distortion pedal and you add a smoother, different dimension to the sound! Awesome!
What a brilliant video showcasing the El Diablo. Im tossing up my choices between this amp, a Randal RG50TC and a Line 6 Flextone. This video really helpss
I put 6L6s in mine - what a difference - took it more to the US side of things - turned it into a more versatile box hitting jazz, classic Gibson skylark/falcon sounds while still options for mucho drive on the Hot channel - I use this with a folk rock/alt country group, reggae, and jams with hard rock groups - never bucks and sits great in the mix - with this amp you will find you don't need not be as loud to cut through - I am sitting solid in the mix and not ripping my head off - which means I can play with more dynamics. Folks seem to diss this amp when it is playe dsolo - but you take it and play it in a group setting and it becomes one of the greatest sounding rigs going.
Yes sir! I did the same thing. Have had mine since they came out. The 6L6 tone with humbucker guitars is magic. The EL34 sounds this amp puts out with single coil pickups is great also.
Great informing demo indeed! The 100W head is a metal beast, but this thing is WAY more versaile! Thanks for pointing this out, I might just buy one of them combos thanks to you!
That amp sounds killer. One of these came up for sale tonight on kijiji in a nearby city. If I didnt have bigger priorities taking up my spare cash (like fixing or replacing the AC unit); I'd be all over this.
Good review demonstrating the clean and crunch gain sounds. But, I would have liked to hear the amp are full gain with all the saturation it can give. I don't know why some reviewers stay away from demonstrating the full gain/saturation the amp can do. Mental note: If I every do a video demo of my next amp, make sure to demo the full range of available gain. :)
@38decembers Thanks for the reply, I'm using a 4x12 Fender loaded w/celestian's right now but wanted something for smaller Gig's. I'm gonna check out the Avatar website. Thanks
I just got The El Diablo 100w Head, and was wondering if any one knows of a good 2x12 cab for it,for a good classic rock tone? They want like 650 for the GB cab!
Dude, great demo video but the video sound quality is not so hot (kind of important really :-). Love to hear this re-recorded without the microphone buzziness.
I think then that we need to define what "boutique" means in terms of the word and guitar amps. Generally, "boutique" implies small manufacturer, a name/brand you likely don't find everywhere. Typically the amps are designed by one engineer who has an idea of what he/she is the ideal sounding guitar/bass amp. Components tend to be of higher quality than mass produced amps. Pricing is higher. Genz Benz easily fits that description, and 5yrs later they are still a small company.
I have this amp. My comments are, clean is sweet, the distortion side is crap. It has that buzz that i cannot understand. Definitely not a hard rock amp,

Great sounds and nice demo of the features. Genz Benz should give you a commission on every one they sell as a result of your video.
great vid
For the 100 Watt Combo, On Musicians Friend, its $1,699
The genz isn't a boutique amp. Simple as that.

GREAT PLAYING !
How are the cleans? are they fat and fenderish? could you dial in a recto'ish gain as well?
excellent cleans
I have the same amp - which tubes you're using?
What guitar did you play on this video?

youre acting like a idiot !
No, it doesnt. A boutique amp would crap all over this.

axeman4567 the gain sounds decent on this demo.
Don't get the El Diablo, either. The gain is a buzzy, muddy mess.
thats not chorus.. thats a cheap mic overloading and/or getting out of phase signals from the room.
