    Yeah I remember when I got my first ram, took it to Seattle from LA and back it was a great experience, the ride is so comfortable, it doesn’t tired you as much which is great if you’re driving a lot. The hemi was doing 23mpg so that was impressive.

    Great Video, thank-you! This is encouraging. You covered almost all of the major issues with the Ram 1500 w/Hemi. From what I am seeing, the common stuff is 1.) the cheap goodyear tires, 2.) the seat stitching coming apart, 3.) exhaust manifold bolts, and 4.) the upper ball joints. You did not mention anything about the ball joints, probably because they are still ok. But I would be interested in hearing how they end up in the next 20k miles or so. Mine went out on my Durango at around 110k miles. But yeah, over all seems to be a decent truck if the problems are limited to a handful of issues.

    Good video. My 2015 Ram1500 has 60,000 miles now. I have had both front wheel bearings replaced a few months ago and it is currently at the dealer because the fuel level sending unit went out. Overall the Ram is a greatly improved truck compared to when I worked at Dodge in early 2000s.

    Thanks for your review and knowing you drive yours within or near Alberta. I’ve had great fortune with my 2013 model as well that has the 8 spd. Trans., (mine was one of the first that year) and 3.92 rear with Slip. I get the same mileage as you do. I had passenger tires too and found there was more road noise and worse in gravel. The LT Tires I have now soak all that up (a better way forward). Been a satisfied owner too, with +90K kms now.

    I have the 2019 Classic 1500 with the Hemi. LOVE it. Getting 22 MPG from the truck computer (almost 21 doing the math at the pump), don't know what that is on the metric scale. I have a 55 mile commute to work, up a mountain (From 500' to 3200' and down to 2000' to work and then home every day). I set the Cruise and let it go. Climbs the mountain at what I set it, and actively downshifts to keep the truck from going over on the downhill runs. I wish it had the bigger tank and the on board GPS (8.4" screen, but no NAV)so I didn't have to use my phone for that

    I have a 2014 dodge sport white and it’s been a great truck and I’m in Alberta too. My rear bumper have rust spots too but I drive a lot of gravel. Wish I had the longer box like you do. I did a level in mine with rancho stocks and added some E range Hankook tires so the gravel doesn’t eat them up. At 154k with it and hope it keeps going. Going to change all of the fluids this spring and maybe the spark plugs next year. Also fix the drivers manifold bolts lol.

    • @kenc165

      Vern Bob if it's the same as factory it's well worth it if you're keeping the truck for awhile. Dodge has paid out well over 10k in warranted service in the 8years I've owned the vehicle. I would love a new limited crew cab but with lifetime service and no payment it's hard to give up.

    I had a squeak in my dash as well .. 2011 Ram 1500 ... took me a while to find it .. but mine was not the dash .. it was the windshield wiper drivers side .. especially when the temp outside is around 30 degrees fer or less ... I sprayed lubricant at the base of the wiper .. where the hinge is and that takes care of it for awhile .. then when summer comes it’s gone ..

    Great vid. Thanks for the upload. Do you run with "eco" mode on or do you do the "manual shift" override? We just traded an 09 Avalanche cause cylinder #4 was pooched likely from cylinder deactivation. So we're paranoid to run it on the Hemi. The new rig is Big Horn with quad cab, 6'4" box, ram box storage, 3.92 gears, LSD and 9 speaker stereo w/sub. Great ride so far, kinda sad to see that manifold leaks happen on hemis too. What was wrong with the grill? I got a bad feeling it won't stand up to snow&ice here in Ontario.

    • @savethe2strokes
      @savethe2strokes  6 лет назад

      it was a module in the grill shutters i think it was a freak thing since it happened so early on and has been fine ever since. yes i have MDS on still for eco mode and dont see any reason it would harm anything. 127,000 now and still strong as ever.

    I agree with the tires being bad. I bought my truck brand new off the lot in Victoria. I had it about two weeks in port renfrew and a piece of shale jammed its way into my front left tire. I complained about it, but the owner of the dealership said Goodyear wouldnt replace it because it was a road hazard and arent liable for it. They did patch it for free, but it happened again to the same tire, this time on the side wall and it had to be replaced. The inner wells too suck. Mine popped out. I had the back up sensors fail at 10,000 kilometers. Which was also weird. Overall its been fantastic. They are great work horses. I hauled a 7x14 cargo trailer from victoria to saskatoon empty, loaded it with about 6000 pounds of stuff, and drove it all the way back. It did well in the high mountains. Got a little hot. For the price, these trucks are the best bang for you buck. I got mine for $49,000. I have status so i paid no taxes on it. Things been awesome. Next i may go for a power wagon.

    Great Review. I own a 2015 ram, 1500...... I just replaced passenger side manifold, gaskets, bolts.. 62k miles. Chrysler care is reviewing and may reimburse me a percentage. I had the tick on cold starts. I did have to replace back caliper at 40k miles, non warranty item do to second owner. I will be checking the Oil Filter at 66k, I will be looking for shavings and metal particles due to cam /lifter issues. If the oil filter shows little proof of wear in engine, I will be keeping this truck.

    Nice truck! Seems like al minor stuff. As far as the rear bumper goes, if that was mine, I'd ask the dealer if they would just mount an aftermarket really HD rear bumper if you supplied it?! Like a nice FabFour HD steel bumper! That's what I would do! Even on the front! Especially where you run!!

    Good info man. I'm looking for a new truck to replace my 01 Sierra SLT. Considering only 2014+ Ram, Tundra and Sierra. I tow 5k about five times a week. Care about mpg and power.. also live in Alberta in Calgary. What do you recommend? I certainly don't wanna put too many parts into a truck costing 30-35 grand.

      I know this was 2 years ago, but if you havent bought yet for some reason, I'd go with the ram, not a fan of modern gm cause they are underpowered and frankly not reliable like they should be, toyota is ok if you dont haul much, but toyota didnt put big enough rotors on them so they struggle with brakes.

    Nice Chroma Drone. Nice truck as well. They are a sexxy beast.
    You didn't mention having any trouble with the rear or maybe even front parking sensors. I know from experience that they are useless in the winter. You never get any trouble from them in winter?
    When I ordered my ecodiesel I made sure they were not on it.
    I had the same thoughts on the box and 3:92 gear ratio and put those on the new one, but wanted the ram box because my back seats were always full of stuff. Not sure if I chose limited slip though.

    • @savethe2strokes
      @savethe2strokes  7 лет назад +1

      I usually do have my sensors off as when im in a field (be it tall grass or deep snow) they will beep like mad. heck even a drive thru will annoy me enough to turn the front ones off.. I like the rear ones but i definitely will not get the front ones again. They had the exact truck i wanted to order with just a couple above and beyond features i didnt really care about but they were willing to deal with me and give the added at no cost so i said sure (it was only a few hundred dollars in extras anyways)

    Nice to see someone using their truck. I have a 2017 3.6l with 20,000 miles on it (awesome truck) and I just got rid of my 06 HDMI which I had for 11 years (a little over 200,000 miles on it). I plan on keeping my 17 for that long as well. I would have double the miles on my trucks, but I always have two trucks and drive them just about the same amount of miles, keep things even. I beat the tar out of my 06. The only repair I ever needed (besides regular maintenence ie..shocks, brakes, plugs, filters, differential fluid..that kinda stuff) was a rear end at 150,000 miles which was $3,000. That truck was a great truck. Did what I needed it too and more. I will say, my 17 is quicker and more responsive. Even though the 17 has 40 less horse power, it is 1,000lbs lighter! 0-60 times are faster and navigating these country road and coming out of corners is definitely quicker, but could tow about 3,000 lbs more. Hauling is real close to the same. And ways..nice truck man. Take care of it and it will definitely take care of you!

    Hey man, I'm on my second Ram now, both with 5.7 hemi.. You mentioned in the video that you have friend,who drives ecodiesel.. I was looking into one of those for a while now and wonder if it worth it in terms of the reliability-service cost and also how it does here in our Alberta winters compare to the hemi? Thanks in advance.

    • @savethe2strokes
      @savethe2strokes  6 лет назад

      Dima Dolotii I don't think any new diesel with emissions is worth it to be honest. The oil change difference makes up for your fuel saved. Not to mention the extra things to go wrong.

    • @dimadolotii2413
      @dimadolotii2413 6 лет назад

      yeah, that was my concern too, i usually put about 40-60k a year and wasn't sure if in the long haul I will be able to save anything..plus i got use to the hemi power and when i test drove the ecodiesel it felt pretty weak, but i was ready to sacrifice that in order to get those 10-13l fuel consumption as long as the engine doesn't give me any problems.. It just really hard to actually get a non-bias opinion about the engine, some people are fully satisfied and say it is pretty reliable, some claim-it is not worth it.. So now I'm bouncing back and forward between another hemi and ecodiesel and cant decide, at some point even started to consider f 150 2.7, 3.5 ecoboost and v8 models..but ford with its turbo issues and crappy customer service makes me reconsider those thoughts

    • @savethe2strokes
      @savethe2strokes  6 лет назад

      Dima Dolotii the motor isn't the issue it's the emissions that are not reliable. If you use your truck for work or just getting to work you want to be able to depend on it. Gas is king if you don't haul heavy everyday as far as cost of running goes and typically less down time. The hemi 8 speed is actually pretty good on fuel if your doing highway trips. How I use it I get about 16-17mpg every tank unless I happen to travel further I have gotten down to 12 on road trips for the entire tank and squeezed out 1050km before fuelling. Huge upgrade over my 2012 hemi prior to the 8 speed.
      As far as towing with the hemi I got 3.92 rear end and it hauls great in my opinion. I only use my old cummins now if I'm using a gooseneck trailer.

    • @dimadolotii2413
      @dimadolotii2413 6 лет назад

      That is the thing-i do use it for work and pretty often i am in the middle of nowhere without any cell service and i want my truck to start every time even when it is -40 outside. I run 2012 with 6 speed now and it is a bit heavy on gas, my coworker has 2016 with 8 speed and he says that it is not much different from mine in terms of the fuel consumption but again-he has pretty heavy foot...I barely tow, maybe 5-10 times a year so towing is not my first concern...and most of the time-it is my bike or couple quads..

    • @savethe2strokes
      @savethe2strokes  6 лет назад

      Dima Dolotii I haul river boat skid steer and 30' sled trailer and a few other things with the hemi and it handles it all no problem. How I drive and where I drive I average about 16-17mpg pretty regular on oilfield roads and idling etc on 34" tires now.
