I'm a big fan of the judge but this was poorly handled. Keep in mind it doesn't matter who is on trial, it's important to uphold the law rigorously.
He said a juror flipped him off and she didn't address that. She went on to talk about jury selection which has no relevance.
Again keep in mind the goal here is to have a clean and fair legal system. Something that is complained about. If you or me were in that position we would definitely be unhappy with her response.

... I was a legal videographer years ago, and one of my standing orders was *NEVER* to talk to any juror at *ANY* time ... so when a juror for a trial I was working spoke to me out in the corridor, I said nothing, but noted 2 other jurors on the same case who witnessed what that one juror had attempted to do. I dutifully reported this to the judge in his chambers, and *WOW* he was not pleased at all.
When the trial resumed, he generally admonished the jury (again) not to speak to anyone outside the jury. What did the juror say to me? He'd said "You're awfully quiet over there", referring to my dead silence and total lack of movement when I was sitting at my control station. Which was my *other* standing order.
