      GOOD NEWS!!!!!
James' father was battling stage 4 Kidney disease at the time the video was made, with no donor available.
However, a donor was found at the last minute, I believe a distant relative, purely by chance.
His father is with us and thriving in 2023!

His father has not passed away, but he is dying at this stage. James wrote this song for his father and sang it to him, in private. He then asked if his father would mind if he recorded it and hoped his father would be in the clip with him. It was done in one take, so he could get the raw emotion and the final product is what you see. His father is very stoic in appearance, but he felt what James was saying to him. At the time of this clip, a match had not been found for his father to have a kidney transplant but after the clip was released, he was saved by a matching donor coming forward.

As someone else mentioned, a donor was found and the father is living well now, but what I think is remarkable is that it was this video that helped save his father's life. A distant relative saw the video when it first came out (there apparently was a lot of publicity in England about it) and decided to get tested, was found to be a match, and donated a kidney. The transplant surgery took place less than one month after the video came out.

One take. No Auto-Tune'. James wanted this amazing emotional song to be absolutely 100% true, real and genuine. It was recorded soon after his father had been diagnosed with stage 4 kidney disease and needed urgently to find a donor to save his life. I heard James donated all the proceeds from this incredible video to the UK charity 'Help For Heroes' who do such wonderful work for ex-servicemen and women. Happily, a donor was found and although his father is still with us, I've heard conflicting reports as to his general state of health these days, some not very encouraging.

Then i would make sure he got into his bed safely, tuck him in, put his fall mat down and turn on the baby monitor. Tending to him in much the same way i do my kiddo. When you are little they tuck you in. When they get older it reverses. I had gone in to tuck him in last month and he was gone.

This song is so touching for anybody who has lost a father/father-in-law/father figure in the last few months or year or so. James filmed this entirely in one take because he knew he wouldn’t be able to do it again for a second take. That really is his father in the video but he didn’t pass away. As a result of this song and this video, somehow James managed to turn his family torture into the most wonderful gift. Brits started turning out in their droves for organ donation. His father received a kidney from a ‘living donor’ and other families were blessed with other organs from living donors and from consenting families for all organs where loss,of life has happened to loved ones.
James is an incredible artist, he is ex-army (British Household Cavalry) and he has served very dangerous tours of duty but he got himself. Record deal and the rest is history.

The beginning of the song and video is so crushingly sad, but I love how it evolves from there to the end. If you weren't listening to the lyrics, the bridge would sound triumphant. The last chorus has that lovely bit of choir, and ends so peacefully. I'm not broken at the end, I feel comforted. And then Charles pats James on the arm, as a father does. It's a masterpiece.

James wanted this to be 100% real and authentic. This was the first time he'd sung it to his dad, who had only recently been diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer and was not expected to survive, although they did eventually fine a donor and he made it. Both James and his dad are former officers in the British military. I don't know how James managed to keep himself together so well, powerful and obviously deeply emotional for him.
First time i heard this song was 3 days after my Dad passed away and it broke me, I lost my Dad 4 years ago this August after he fell and hit his head sadly he didn't survive it caused a bleed on his brain I sadly never had the chance to tell him I loved him and that hurts but i know he is at peace now.

The ability to portray all of this is a gift that James has in abundance, his Father will be proud of his sons military carear, but even prouder of his talent and love!

I feel Ace's pain when he was separated from his dad. My father and I were at odds with each other for a while. I was f'ing my life up instead of doing something with it - I had to drop out of college cuz I was too busy getting high to study. He was disappointed in me, and so was I. I went to work in the same engineering company where he worked and was leaving for an out-of-town work assignment. As I was getting my stuff into the car, out of the blue he told me he loved me, and I told him the same and we shared a deep, warm embrace. I floated to the car - I had not been that happy in a long time. A month after I left, he died of a massive heart attack at the age of 39. I was 21. I don't know if I would ever have recovered if we parted unreconciled. Thanks Dad, for all you did for me, I love you still and I always will. I think you would be proud of me - I got my sh*t together, married a loving woman and we have a home, raised two grown sons, all of that made even better by two beautiful granddaughters.

Hey y'all! Amazing song from an amazing artist! Beautifully written, he has a story for sure. Another artist who has a lifetime of his story within the minutes of his songs is Ren, a songwriter and singer from Wales. I found Ren from his masterpiece Hi Ren. It's one of the most powerful songs I've ever heard. But he can do anything with perfection: rap, play multiple instruments, records live, street performances, etc. He is quite literally perfect and he has had a hard life of being misdiagnosed of Lyme Disease. He has something for everyone and sings on quite controversial topics. Give him a chance, to me he's perfection.

"The greatest" and "someone singing along" is emotional but uplifting. Then "Bonfire heart", "the truth", "love me better" "Youngster" are more upbeat songs. Great reaction, thank you 👍

I came across this song last year in April after my grandfather passed away a few days after my birthday. I got to console my father while he watched his father wither away til his last dying breath. Hearing this song brought up so many wild emotions and having just lost my grandfather healed so many old wounds.
We're two grown men. We both have made mistakes in our lives. Nothing needs to be said. Just appreciate each other for the men we've got to become and let me take care of you and say goodbye to each other.

I've seen a bunch of reactions to this song. It's like a memorial to my dad. I was cery fortunate that I had the opportunity to have that kind of closure with my dad before he passed, although perhaps not quite so eloquently. But it still chokes me up. I just get this overwhelming desire for everyone who still has their father(or any parent) hears this and is inspired to love on those parents and make sure they get that closure.

That is his dad. Part of the formality is his dad is a ex military man and an ex colonel of the army air corps. James is also ex military and was a tank commander in the kosovo war on behalf of Nato and afterwards he was also in the queens guards. That might explain the stoic "just two men saying goodbye"

His father is living well now, but what I think is remarkable is that it was this video that helped save his father's life. A distant relative saw the video when it first came out (there apparently was a lot of publicity in England about it) and decided to get tested, was found to be a match, and donated a kidney. The transplant surgery took place less than one month after the video came out.

When this was filmed James blunts dad was dying. He didn't have alot of days left. He had stage 4 kidney disease.
Usually you can live a normal life with just one kidney but Charles (James dad) had already donated one of his kidneys away, so there was not whole lot more they could do.
A distant cousin saw this video and got in touch with the family. He then went to check himself and to see if he was a match for James's Dad (Charles Blount).
He was and Charles is now alive and well... Amazing!

This is definitely a tough one. Lost my dad on 12/5/15 to cancer and it's still tough. That Thanksgiving a couple weeks before he was struggling and that night my brother and me talked to him and asked him if he was ready. He said he didn't want to ruin Christmas. We just told him we'd take care of ma and celebrate it for him. He said he was ready. He just needed to hear from us that we would be ok. He went peaceful at my house with his sons holding his hands. Songs like this are sad but when you've been through it it helps get things out. Thank you for this reaction..... Love and miss you dad!!!

We need more of people expressing and feeling emotions. It may not feel great in the moment, but songs like this will make people release pain they have been holding onto, realize the importance of their family and call them, and just overall bring people together. No Bravery is an amazing song and talks about a very tough experience military people go through, but Your Beautiful and Goodby My Lover are probably the most popular songs.
