I've been taking a cocktail of Vitamin C, D and Zinc since the beginning of the pandemic. Since I saw a video on a study showing the severity of COVID being much worse for Zinc deficient individuals. And I've had the beginnings of a sore throat, and a cough multiple times, and I immediately take my vitamins, and I've managed to go sick free for almost 2 years now.
I’ve tried many forms of zinc and the only one I can tolerate is Zinc Picolinate. I take it daily with no issues, but I didn’t realize it needed to be taken on an empty stomach. Thank you Doc for another great video.
Thank you for mentioning the copper, it's important, my neurologist had me up to 11 mg of copper a day and it was still not moving my blood levels to within normal limits. I have recently reduced it and have added zinc but have not had my blood work done yet to check, neurologist retired. Appreciate you explaining the various types of zinc, I asked a nutritionist and she couldn't even explain it.

Might have to be careful with that. Anything that mentions the virus gets looked at strongly. If it suggests anything that is against the narrative this awesome channel might get a strike against it or get pulled down
When specifying the “excessive” threshold range for Zinc as 150-200mg, that is based on the elemental amount in the particular form being taken, correct? Does the bioavailability also get factored in as well? Seems the bioavailability would be significant in optimizing dosage if we chose to top out a daily dose using one of the more or less bioavailable forms. Lastly, should age or weight come into play? If there are any generalizations around these questions for all Micronutrients, I think it would make a great standalone video.
Just found you and have watched 4 videos in a row. 👍 I just started taking Zinc a couple of weeks ago. You have given me more info to work with. I purchased Zinc Chelate (which I see now is Zinc Glucanate) in 50 mg capsules. I thought I could take one every other day but you pointed out it's necessary to take daily. Do you have any recommendations of how I should deal with this. I will look harder for my next bottle. Also, you talked about taking 30mg in smaller amounts. Is this if you have tablets as opposed to capsules?
I have 30 mg of zinc oxide. Is it good to take? I just started taking it today while I am listening to this video. Thank you for your short videos packed with all the information you need!!
Sounds silly, but I know I'm getting low in zinc if I start getting a stressed out body odor. This is different than run of the mill sweat smell. So is zinc affiliated with cortisol or other adrenal type hormones?
i take a quarter of the recommended dose for about 5-6mg of liquid zinc to be safe and make sure I don't deplete copper. Then the rest I try to get from food.
It will cost more, but get a high quality zinc, which does come in 15 mg doses. I use Integrative Therapeutics, and Pure Encapsulations, for starters. I learned here tonight that I want to do a new search for the bisglycanate, and probably also the carnosine, I will do one of each at separate times in the day. (50 mg is WAY too much, and I would think cause nausea, but certainly one must get copper (which is a dicier supplement) as 15-1 is the ratio if doing high dosing)
I would suggest 15 mg. I take the Dr. Mercola brand. It also has the copper with it as well so that you don’t have an issue with that. If you wish I could link it.
I have been taking Zinc regularly for several years and on the label, it says Zinc (gluconate, oxide, aspartate). The place where I usually buy my vitamins started selling a Zinc product, so I got that when I ran out of the other. On the label, it says Zinc (Citrate) and it's only 30 mg instead of 50 mg that the other product was providing. I guess my question is, am I missing out on something by taking the Zinc (Citrate).
I'm not a doctor but I would say no. 15 mg is a low dose and only half or a bit more would be absorbed so it seems like a safe daily dose not likely to cause any problem. If wanting to prevent viral infection I take vit C , say, 1000mg along with that and if you want to do even better take with Quercetin, D3, and K2. But that's another story if you are not up on those you need to do your own research.
I have a little problem taking zinc. I have a very good zinc supplement Zinc bisglycinate by a renown French company and its 15 mcg per capsule.
