    I agree that you develope an instinctive cadence fishing a particular reel. Now, there are many gear ratios. Your breakdown is usefull to me in deciding on a 3rd reel I want to add.

    I’m a big believer in 6:8:1 I use it for almost everything besides frogging. I will flip with it the reason why is what Gman said you want torque! To turn that fish.

    Lews is the brand that put me on the 6.8 ratio! Absolutely my favorite reel ratio. The older Pro G Lews is an absolutely amazing reel! Ran mine for the last several years and it’s been a staple in my fishing!

    Andrew, good topic for a video. Thanks. My question is for finesse fishing baits. My spinning reel is a 6.2 i think, well 6 something. But it seems like I should look for a 7 gear ratio based on how u explained some of your bottom baits. What gear ratio do you think i should use on my finesse spinning set up? Ie for ned rig, dropshot, wacky rig stick bait etc

    • @AndrewUpshawFishing
      @AndrewUpshawFishing  4 года назад +1

      Spinning reels are slightly different in inches per turn. A 6.2 on a spinning reel is really fast in comparison to the old school 5.1. I think you are good.

    Another technique to consider for high speed is chasing schooling fish, especially on clearwater herring lakes throwing topwater walking baits. What ya think?

    Good information thanks for the video. Even though it was a week too late. I just bought a lews 5.6:1 for 6-10XDs lol. Wish i would have seen this first. Do a "finding fish with electronics" video

    • @AndrewUpshawFishing
      @AndrewUpshawFishing  4 года назад

      Darn! That 5.6:1 will work well. Just might have to crank really fast with it!

    • @xhalin
      @xhalin 4 года назад

      You really dont "find" fish. Much easier to find the type of habitat they are using a particular time of year. Find an anomaly in that habitat, and the fish will be there. Never ever seen that fail.

    • @AndrewUpshawFishing

      Joe makes a really good point. I’m more likely to find cover, than actually fish.

  • @joeschranz4525
    @joeschranz4525 2 года назад

    Do you think 36 inches per turn is too fast for flipping flooded brush and tossing frogs. And occasionally throwing a spinner bait

    • @AndrewUpshawFishing
      @AndrewUpshawFishing  4 года назад +1

      I’m a huge fan of the Custom Speed Stick or Custom Pro Speed Stick in the rod Model “Magnum Hammer”. It’s 7’3” Medium Heavy. Perfect rod for lipless. The reel I use is a 7.5:1 in either the HyperMag or Custom Lite.

    • @asianboi08
      @asianboi08 4 года назад

      Andrew Upshaw Fishing I love the custom speed stick series too. I own like 10 of them. I wish they didn’t discontinue those model. Hyper mag is by far my favorite reel also. I will look into getting them. I have a few more tournaments and I know the lipless crankbait will come into play.

      @@AndrewUpshawFishing Andrew, could I ask a question? And get your opinion or suggestion? I mainly pond and bank fish. Battling cancer so hard to get out on lake to much, so Spending every day I can, while I can fishing, would like to treat myself with a new rod and reel set up. If you could set up one new Lews baitcasting combo, mainly for pond and bank fishing, what would you get or have? What reel, and gear ratio, and what rod, in what lenght, and action? Your thoughts would be appreciated! thank you!

    Hey I was looking into buying me a 9-0-1 gear baitcaster for frog fishing what do you think of this or would you go with a different gear size

    • @AndrewUpshawFishing
      @AndrewUpshawFishing  4 года назад

      Man, I’m just not a fan of that quick of a gear ratio. An 8.3:1 is about as fast as I would go. It’s not only about speed, but also the gear size. On a 9.1 reel, the teeth on the gear are tiny and are more susceptible to break with high torque, IE frog fishing and braid.
