I'm a power fisherman so I keep the 5.4:1 reels on my crankbait rods just because I found, like you said I was overworking the bait, and slowing it down got me so many more bites. I still burn the handle, but at least I get bit now! I haven't tried anything as fast as a 10:1, not yet anyway.
Perfect thanks it was exactly what I needed to know. I think I subscribed shortly after you made this video. Thanks for answering my comment so fast I really enjoy them.
This is what I’ve been needing to here. I’m looking to try different baits and techniques, I have a few different rods but they all have the same middle of the rode 6.4 to 1 reel I’m looking to speed up but not really looking to buy another combo. This video helped me realize I can just go by just a rod or just a real. Thank you.
The 10 speed(Revo Rocket) is good for frogging also, Once you Hooke it, you can drive that baby home. If the reel body is solid I can say it is great fogging reel as well.
👍🏼 I’m a speed guy and can slow myself down. But do have a few slower gears for the special times. I prefer the speed to keep me in control of the fish.
@@MattStefanFishing so true. But where I struggle is with the spinning rod. A 3000 size reel will give me better and faster speed it’s to cumbersome feeling for me and I stick to the 2000/2500 size reel. I’m hoping more companies will increase the speed but keep the smaller size if possible
I stick with 7 gear about a 29” retrieve for just about everything. Unless it’s an application that I absolutely need torque to prevent fatigue for deeper cranks or need to pick up slack extremely fast like flipping or jig bites coming at me
Believe it or not Piscifun has great reels that are cheap I have 3 but 2 different models. But as a budget reel I have a Abu Garcia BlackMax and I put Spool Speed bearings in it and it’s awesome. I also just got a Shimano SLX DC and a KastKing Speed Demon
@@MattStefanFishing Do you use a rocket, for that? Also, wondering about a rocket, for flipping, and frogging. I've heard pros claim, not enough power to move the fish......I don't really buy that. Thoughts?
My first spinning reel has 4.3:1 I bought when I was a kid. My next spinning combos has 5.3.. My first baitcaster has 6.5:1 Shimano cajus. Now I have 2 Quantum smoke S3 baitcaster with 7.3:.1. All my spinning combo are Shimano. I have one other spinning reel that is a different brand

I agree completely!

Yep

Yep i agree. It’s a lot easier to slow down with a high speed reel than to speed up with a slow gear ratio.

@@Roboworm99 you should try the Abu Garcia Revo Rocket spinning reel. It’s super high speed and comes in the small sizes you prefer.
@@MattStefanFishing ya it’s one of the ones I was looking at. Wish the Zata came in that speed

its the best all around reel speed IMO

I'm new to the channel. You make great content. Keep them coming.
Thanks Derrick! Lots more good stuff coming!
Totally agree. Solid advice.
Thanks Martin!
What's your speed choice for top water walkers, on big, open water flats?
I like a fast speed ratio for fishing big flats with a walking bait.

@@douglaswheeler3720 plenty of power if the angler has it. Just like riding a bike in low gear. Harder to crank but you go faster

Sounds great!
@@MattStefanFishing it is great. My Quantum smoke combo is the lightest combo I ever used
Love my revo 10.1.1
me too
If you where to buy only one speed for every type of bait, which would it be?
8.1:1
@@MattStefanFishing God bless and good luck this weekend!
Nice shirt! Way to represent!
I’m hearing rumors the club no longer exists. Is that true?
@@MattStefanFishing as far as I know we still exist..
