I remember listening to Rick Dees' top 40 every Sunday night with my finger hovering over the record button of my radio tape deck to record the metal songs.

The creators of G1 were idiots, they received very clear instructions from Takara over at Japan saying "Rumble is red and his twin Frenzy is blue" but they still manged to misread it

They are very good Transformers but they don't fit Soundwave chest and they miss paint decor on the tapes, for me that is a deal breaker. Thanks for the review.
I always thought Rumble and Frenzy were human size in bot mode so the masterpiece scale made more sense me.
They were taller than humans on the show.
The pose you put both figures in at the end of the video is phenomenal. Like it was pulled right from the 80's cartoon. Bravo. Great review as well. I'm just waiting for Captured Prey to get their stock in of these figures so my pre-order of them will ship.

Love these, great presence and action figure feel to them. I wish those arm tabs were cast though instead of painted, frenzy's are half stripped from one transformation, gonna have to repaint them.

Great review Skull Brother!!! These are amazing and yes I'm the old fart who as a child always wanted working piledrivers. That feature really speaks to me and makes these an absolute must buy. Just to weigh in for the record, RUMBLE IS BLUE AND FRENZY IS RED LOL...

I just preordered these two guys after seeing this review and holding out on whether or not I needed to replace the Masterpiece versions. I think I do. They really look rinky dinky next to the Ocular Max offerings. Proportions are much better for the OM ones and like you said, as long as they are smaller than Reflector and the Insecticons then it's golden.
holy shit these guys are really cool looking, and the pile drivers were a great touch. I also think they stand closer to being cartoon size compared to the other MPs

They're beautiful, no doubt but just too big, IMO. I'm guessing the MMC Autobot cassettes will be the same size as well (and won't scale as well with my KFC Transistor).
The chest look to squashed and the abdomen looks stretched and yeah they do look a lil too big for my liking. but i agree on one thing they do have more of a presence than the officials.

You are right about the masterpiece tapes, I display them with my CHUGS. In the cartoon they were almost scout size so these scale better as masterpiece.
These guys are quite cool, especially that ground pound/pile drivers gimmick (which takes batteries, I know) that I love.

Oh now you've got me all mixed up!
As a huge fan, and a child who poured over the early catalog dreaming of the chance to own the toys, the names will always be different to me. Rumble came with Ravage, and he was black and red. Frenzy came with Laserbeak, and he was blue. I don't care that the cartoon writers were clueless, as they made mistake after mistake on the show. I'm not drinking the koolaid with your name swaps, real fans know who's who.

Right there with ya, man. That catalogue was burned into my mind too. Frenzy will always be blue for me, although I won't fight anyone over it.
It may have started as a mistake, but RIBFIR still became canon to the toon. And considering these figures are clearly based on the toon, well...RIBFIR.

Mark Darc04 The R stands for you to Re-watch Season 1 of the '84 Transformers. You'll have much to learn young one.
Marvel and in fact the original toy has Rumble is Red, Frenzy is Blue, the opposite of the cartoon.

From the TFwiki page on the old "RIRFIB/FIRRIB" argument - "It was Hasbro's intent that Rumble be black and red, and Frenzy be two shades of blue. These color schemes are used in the toyline, Marvel Comics and many storybooks and ancillary media from the early years of Generation 1, and naturally, it was intended for the cartoon series to render the characters in this manner as well (as proven by the show's production bible, which identifies Rumble as the "red robot"). However, as a result of some unspecified error somewhere in production, the two robots had their color schemes swapped, leaving the animated incarnation of Rumble blue, and Frenzy red."
So there you go, Sunbow is to blame, as usual when it comes to all the animation errors, for the colours being the way they are.

I LOVE these things. Early leaders in the clubhouse for Figure of the Year. I didn't expect them to bring such unadulterated joy. They're not perfect, but they're damn close - a 9.8/10. They might be a bit big, but that's a better problem than too small ifyouknowhatI'msaying.

I guess these aren't for me - I've always thought this line was only fractionally better than the MP and at the wrong size!
However, credit where credit is due, the way the transformation narrows down the distance between the cassette spindles to form the chest is really clever!
handling both on the same day i can tell you they are far from fractionally better
That's cool. I think I'm probably weighing the integration with MP Soundwave quite heavily against any gains in posability and presence. :-)
Maybe the shoulders can be shaved to allow more articulation

I wish the pile drivers was able to slow down or speed up ,but mostly slow down the speed on toy is way faster then it should be (IMO)

As a classics collector, I have to agree with you on the size of the official MP cassettes. I use them for my collection and they stand perfectly with say Voyager Megatron or my Music Label Soundwave accordingly. I can see why an MP collector would not be happy with the size of the cassettes.

If you're going with the cartoon, Rumble & Frenzy were just a tad bigger than a human. Recall the scene where Sparkplug tries to take on Rumble, and another where Frenzy wrestles Skywarp's face. Even in the Movie, they were tiny. If you're going with the comic, then both Rumble & Frenzy were about standard Autobot size, which means RIR & FIB. Gulp!

Bobby. I wondering why KBB or WeiJiang have not done yet upscaled KO's from the official Masteprieces Frenzy and Rumble. That way we could have them at the correct scale.

This figure looks really good. In your handling, is there anyway you see that they could have made the shins out of one piece of plastic, so there is no gap in the shin? RIBFIR The size is fine. My cartoon sensibilities tell me that rumble is just so much taller than Spike and I remember that time her jumped on Thundercrackers face, but if humans didn't exist, the size works perfectly also.

Such a terrible audio technology but so so classic. To this day I could never figure out how the actual tape inside would get caught up in my Walkman and somehow twist rendering my cassette useless. Kids of today do not know how good they have it but they’ll never know the joy of making a mix tape. 60 or 90 minute. Is it live or is it Memorex.

The abdomen is slightly long, I feel if they could have engineered it to collapse down some it would reduce the overall torso length, but then of course it would eliminate the ab crunch for piledriver mode. They do look great, though. I would have been fine with static piledrivers, I cannot see me ever displaying them and just leaving them on for any length of time. What was up with that shady bastard outside Wal-Mart trying to sell a mix tape? Must have been his demo. Solid review, Bobby!

I can't disagree that they look great and are better figures than the MP tapes, but it kind of kills the suspension of disbelief when they don't fit in Soundwave's chest. That and they wouldn't scale with the 40+ other cassettebots that I have.
i guess its impossible to make both work, so you as a collector have to decide what is most important to you

They grow up so fast! The piledrivers suck for me from a pricepoint perspective, but otherwise my opinion remains the same: gimmicks are great if they actually work and if they make sense. Also, how do these guys scale with deluxe figures? I don't have the Reflector or Shrapnel to compare with.
i dont have many deluxe figs to compare with, but i would imagine theyd be obnoxiously big

Skullface you are right about these looking better but in the cartoon I remember Rumble coming into a room and slapping Spike out of the way. If you use the Spike that came with MP-10 the originals that came with Soundwave are accurate. Actually the over sized Bumblebee is more accurate to the MP scale as far as the real size of a VW bug to a real semi truck. In the end I chalk this all up to phase shifting. Hell they can't "Officially" agree on who's Frenzy and who is Rumble but I like the rest of us say whatever the cartoon says is right is right.
Btw. I have something coming in a few weeks that I want you to review that is going to make you think SH Figure arts is garbage when it comes to sculpt and articulation.

This is an exception when it comes to packaging. ftmp, unless it's actually going to be primarily sold from a shelf, the packaging only needs to be plain cardboard. There's really no point in the 3p companies putting so much time and money in their packaging, when 99.99% of their sales come from online stores, where you get actual product images...
some people display the packaging though, to be fair

They're more accurate for Marvel Comics fans due to the size too. I'm definitely getting them as I'm a comic fan rather than cartoon (animated movie aside), but wont be using the piledrivers as a result (never used in the comic, Rumble simply stomps the ground, so he'll be on the stand for sure)

I agree, for me, these are infinitely better as well and I'm glad I made the switch up. Fantastic review as always and thank you as well Robert D. I hope they do the autobot cassettes as well and the season 3 cassette bots from both factions, because if they are done at least this well, I'm all in.

I'm no millennial as frenzy was purple in the cartoon at one point but they got the colours and names so wrong from time to time but I've always associate rumble as the blue guy

14:15 Meteor really stands out there compared to the rest, with his burnt face, missing thrusters, missing masterpiece details, and shiny KFC style paint slathered over flat, featureless plastic. The rest of the line-up looks much more cohesive.
Mechanic lol I thought you were going to be positive. Put meteor next to the Takara jets though and it’s no comparison. I can’t wait for them to replace my thundercracker and skywarp too

They are a bit tall for MP line...but fit perfect for MPP line....sigh...
Of course mp version are too small for mp in bot size.
