Do You Struggle to Believe? - Bishop Barron's Sunday Sermon
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 5 апр 2024
- Friends, on the Second Sunday of Easter, we have the inexhaustible reading from the twentieth chapter of John-one of the accounts of the Resurrection appearances of Jesus. These are in many ways the core texts of our Christian faith, so it behooves us to spend some careful time looking at them. This week, I want to reflect on the shalom (peace) that the risen Christ offers his disciples-and the struggle of one disciple, who was not present, to believe.
Mass Readings:
Reading 1 - Acts 4:32-35
Psalm - Ps 118:2-4, 13-15, 22-24
Reading 2 - 1 Jn 5:1-6
Gospel - Jn 20:19-31

Bishop, I went to confession today for the first time in 18 years and received the body of Christ in holy communion. I feel a thousand pounds lighter. God’s love and healing is absolutely incredible. God bless you ❤
It's never too late.
Alleluia!
Yes!! I'm so happy for you!
Many congratulations 🎉
The saints in heaven have a party for every repentant sinner. Complete and total win, queen!
I truly aspire to become like Bishop Barron. Not really in giving excellent sermons but in living a life that becomes a blessing to others. Because that's what he is. A blessing to others and he is truly irreplaceable. It was his teaching on Isaiah 55:8 that rescued me from 3 years of depression. No amount of therapy or medication helped me, but his 13-14 mins sermon did.
Aspire to be like Christ. Praying for you
我也非常喜爱他的布道,充满了圣神。每次听完都给我鼓舞和力量!
That's great, glory be to God! Could you send a link to this sermon?
Praise God!
Amen
I'm from Goa, India. Here it's widely held that St. Thomas the Apostle once tread our soils, leaving a legacy so profound that churches and chapels dedicated to him dot the landscape.
Our families honor him deeply, with many bearing his name as a tribute to this great Apostle of our Lord.
Wishing you a joyous Feast of the Divine Mercy!
Viva Goa
This homily states beautifully just why I took St. Thomas the Apostle (Doubter) as my confirmation saint 3 years ago when I came into full communion with the Catholic Church. His skepticism is honest. Christ doesn't scold him for this and even offers to let him verify for himself ("put your hand in my side"), but when faced with the Risen Lord he need no longer touch His wounds. Instead, Thomas worships and adores: "my Lord and my God." St Thomas, pray for us!
Pray, “ Lord, I believe, take away my unbelief”. He will come to you. Don’t give up. 🙏🏻
If you believe, what unbelief is there to take? If you do not believe, your prayer goes to whom exactly?
No wonder atheists make fun of christians. Your god is supposed to be logos, and yet here you are "arguing" circular logic...
I can't tell you how many times I've prayed something similar. I've come to accept that either God isn't real or doesn't want me to know him.
@@dielsalderhow much time do you spend in the Word?
@@dielsalder God already knows you. He wants you to know and love Him. Pray with an open heart, listen to the Holy Spirit. God bless you.
@@dielsalder the thinking mind is the spoiler in prayer. Pray from the place where you desire God. Desire is a prayer in itself. I look at my favorite painting of Jesus to focus me into prayer. We’re all not crazy 😊🙏🏻
I needed this encouragement. God gives us strength to overcome our struggles. I will overcome as I struggle to provide for my children, I’m a single mother. Both of my sons special needs, and require much from me but I know God will give me the strength and courage that I need to continue to keep going. So while I struggle to buy groceries and while I struggle to pay rent. I will keep faith and praise God ALWAYS!
God bless you and your children. Whenever I am most scared or forlorn, I think of Jesus saying, I will not leave you alone, and I am comforted and strengthened. I pray your struggles will lessen, and your dear children will live happily in the world, thanks to you and all you do to care for them.
Th Divine Mercy graces were given today. The older I grow (almost 80) the more I believe. Human death will be the beginning of life for us. Praise be to GOD.
Greetings from the so called "St. Thomas Christians" of Kerala, India. :)
Nice to someone from Kerala
God bless you and your family my dear brother
Blessings to our brothers and sisters in Kerala, India. The love and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you!
Yes, be careful from this bishop he seems to like to beat out both his friends and his foes. It’s an unfortunate quality of his.
From the Metro Manila, Philippines, I will never tire of listening to Bishop Barron and learning from his homilies. Praise and thank God for giving and sending us Bishop Barron. Yes, Lord Jesus, You are the Son of the living God. You are our savior, provider, healer, protector and everything. I trust in You and I love you!
Please pray for me! If I may one day become a deacon, if not a priest! 🙏🔥
Happy Divine Mercy Sunday ✝️ trust is such a big part of any relationship but it’s come to its fruition in the Lord, Jesus Christ . Blood and water which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fountain of Mercy for us, I trust in you! For the sake of his sorrowful Passion,
have mercy on us and on the whole world.
As long as I breathe, I will believe. Praise God
I say the words every time I approach the altar. “My Lord and My God!”
Hallelujah! Bishop Barron does read our comments. How he finds the time, I don’t really know. The man is a saint.
I was fortunate enough to be born into the Catholic faith, but I wish that the Bible was explained to me as Bishop Barron explains it. I'm sure I would have been a lot closer to my religion if this had been the case, but now I'm much older and I have found my own path to Jesus Christ and his Father God. Bishop Barron keeps me attentive all through his style of preaching. Thank you Bishop.
If your life had been different, would you have found your way back to Jesus?? Because I thought the same and have been wrestling with this for awhile, and I came to this, I wouldn't want to chance missing my way back to Jesus❣️🙏🙏🙏 God Bless You❤
I never really left, I always believed but I wasn't as invested as I am now, life teaches you a lot of lessons, my faith in God grows everyday.
I'm blessed to have found my person that he is Catholic and now I am becoming Catholic and he told me about Bishop baron but he does explain everything so well it is so beautiful.
Its never too late to start reading and loving the bible🎉
Greetings to you, Bishop Robert Barron from the state of Kerala, India where St. Thomas preached and baptized the believers The land of St. Thomas Christians and St. Thomas Catholics ( Syro Malabar Catholic Church- 5 million Catholics worldwide.)
Absolutely I am Thomas, and have to fight this constantly. I think when you have had periods of life from early childhood with very little love, it is always hard to believe deep down that you are lovable, even by God. No amount of reasoning seems to help. Only contemplative prayer, which is God given, helps I think. And I am now 90! +
Thank you, Bishop Baron. You are an inspiration to all of us. We love you. Prayers for you. 🙏🙏🙏
Any St. Thomas Christians here? So proud to have heard this sermon.❤
Amazing explanation of faith and reason, plus the importance of church to getting to know Jesus. And in 14 minutes! God bless everyone
I love to share Bishop Barron's homilies with people I know whose faith may be weak, because his explanations are so clear and straight forward. Thank the Lord for your words.
The Resurrection still matters and it changed everything! For me, this is what keeps my fire burning and helps during times of unbelief.
Bishop Barron, thank you so much for sharing your sermons. I couldn't go to Mass this morn because I'm sick, and having your sermon, along with Word on Fire's Liturgy of the Hours, is helping me salvage my Sunday. Word on Fire has changed my life, and I'm just so happy to be a part of it, however small. God bless you.
May peace be with you, Bishop Barron 🙏
Our Lord comes through the locked doors in our own hearts. And He comes in Peace. Then our hearts release where we are locked from His Mercy, His Peace His Love.
God bless you my brothers and sisters in Christ from all around the world! From 🇱🇧 Lebanon
God bless you and Lebanon! Christ is King.
Pray for me my brothers and sisters, sometimes I find myself in St.Thomas' position. Pray for my perserverance and my faith, trust, and surrender to the Lord Jesus! Thank you, you are also in my prayers!
Peace be with you, Bishop Barron and I pray for your well being and protection . God bless you.
*"In the wounds of Jesus we understand that we are sinners."* - BISHOP ROBERT BARRON
Thanks Bishop Barron. I often pray for you to keep being inspired so that many people may come to love Jesus Christ
Cradle Catholic, raised in an observant Catholic home, with 8 yrs of Catholic school (nuns) followed by several years of weekly CCD classes. I am eternally grateful for the moral grounding I have received; I know how to tell right from wrong in just about any situation because of that. I have no struggles with belief in Jesus or the Bible.
What I struggle with is belief in the hierarchy (as an institution and as individuals) and some elements of Tradition and theology that have arisen from the hierarchy. I believe it is too often a clericalist club looking out for itself and that has led throughout history to too much careerism, corruption of all kinds, a failure of the institution to deal with it's own corrupt members, and Pharisee-like hypocrisy throughout our history.
There are 2 verses from the Gospels that best describe what I think about the hierarchy in general, but much less so about individual priests.
Matthew 23:4 (virtually the entire Chapter 23 applies) and Luke 6:43.
I love Bishop Barron. He always touches home with me.
It's easy for me to believe because God has made it so clear to me. I would love for others to be so convinced in faith that they'd have peace.
From Rio de Janeiro, Brazil… Bishop Robert Barron is a God’ Grace to Catholics & Christians all over the World! Marvelous teachings on Faith & Reason.
Saying Catholics and Christians implies that Catholics aren't Christians, which is false because we're the original Christians. It would be like saying all cats and felines or all spiders and arachnids. It's redundant.
I have Protestant friends in Brazil that do admire Bishop Barron… Catholics are Christians … In my humble view we are indeed the originals… ( see Matt 16:18) I just tried to include my friends in the comment that I made.
Thank you, Bishop Barron. I never cease to experience the joy at Mass when I hear and say, “Peace be with you!” And that peace continues when I surrender and trust Jesus, abiding with him, instead of trying to control everything on my own.
Thank You Bishop Barron for another wonderful homily. I recently went on a road trip where I was driving for eight hours each way, and I was pleased to see many Christian radio stations on the air. I am also very pleased to see Word on Fire has over one million subscribers and growing. This just proves we DO need God in our lives and when we focus on those four substitutes for God that Bishop Barron always talks about (e.g. wealth, power, pleasure and honor) we will always come up short and feeling empty. God Bless!
It’s to the point where I have to save every video to watch again or share with others. 😁🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️
Definitely
Word.
On.
FIRE! Thank God for His Word and those who handle it with Holy Spirit wisdom like Bishop Barron. 🙏
"One of the signs that you're not dealing with the true, risen Lord, is that he doesn't have any wounds."
Thank you Bishop for another thought provoking, Faith deepening sermon. I believe. And you helped me work through my unbelief.
Beautiful homily Bishop Baron. Thank you for your insightful words of wisdom on our Lord .
You alongside father mike and the bible project and a handful of other incredible resources helped me understand god and jesus and I was baptised at Easter . Thank you . I will continue to pray for you for you are an incredible source of light to many . Thank you
Thank you for teaching us about God in a way that can be understood. You are truly a blessed with a wonderful gift.
Thank you this helped me so much✝️✝️✝️
Bishop Barron always speaks from, and to, the heart.
Truthfully. Many times, yes. And I trust His grace, to take me through those times
La Paix du Christ soit avec toi.
Well this sermon came at the perfect time for me
Thank you, as always, Bishop Barron. Blessings andd be well.
My Lord! My God! Jesús I Trust in You 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻✝️❤
Thank you Bishop for explaining the Word. You bring more contemplation.
Wonderful sermon Bishop Barron. Thank you and may God continue to bless you richly.
The good Bishop mentioned it, but I want to emphasize it…Thomas hears from the church, doesn’t necessarily have the most mature reaction… But he was there the second time. He stayed with the church despite his misgivings. He didn’t run away. Some part of him hoped.
Thank you Bishop Barron this video made me realize something that my mother did for me which was instilling a faith in me when I was a young child that makes me realize now in my older years that I have never doubted Jesus has always been there for me❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ thank you for everything you do
I am overcome in complete joy and love for my Resurrected Jesus and desire complete surrender to His Will in my life in all things. BBB
What a great sermon, thank you Bishop Barron.
Dear Bishop, you have been truly blessed with the Holy Spirit. I have followed you since the begging from PBS TV show, where I was first introduced, to you to present. I said to myself , there is a priest who has courage and is not afraid of criticism . I listen to all your sermons and interviews...every time I hear, I learn something new from you. God bless you.
Thanks Bishop, great video
The joy of proclaiming the gospel- thanks B.B.
My Lord and My God!
Our God is a God of wonders and miracles!🙏🏻
Thank you Bishop for the beautiful homily.
Day 1.) “Why do you confuse yourselves by worrying? Leave the care of your affairs to me and everything will be peaceful. I say to you in truth that every act of true, blind, complete surrender to me produces the effect that you desire and resolves all difficult situations.” ( O Jesus, I surrender myself to you, take care of everything! Repeat 10 times) There are 9 days. The Surrender Novena given by Jesus to Fr. Dolindo Ruotolo God Bless everyone.
Thank you for the reminder. We try in our own strength instead of giving all to Jesus
This Novena has changed my life.
I don’t own any animals at all.
Much to learn here on getting Jesus right through the wonderful workings of faith, reason, and humility.
BB: "Whenever you're tempted to say, 'I've done things that are just beyond the pale, I mean God could never forgive me for that,' that's simply false because we killed God and God returned in forgiving love." Just really spoke to me today. Thank you Bishop Barron.
Thank you, Bishop; I think many of us struggle with our faith, some more than others, and need to hear this from time-to-time. Being an IT professional for most of my life, I'm used to thinking logically and occasionally run into issues with resolving various aspects of the written word, especially in the Old Testament. Please pray for me as I try to find a path to true and complete enlightenment where logic and faith can coexist.
For many the struggle is to believe in the Church as "the Body of Christ". As former protestant, now Catholic, I managed to take the step into the Church, but I surely do understand people who hesitate or simply can't believe the claims of the Church given its history as well as its current state.
Thank you for explaining things ,I get lost trying to understand the correct answers ..God Bless and Glory to God .amen
Thank you Bishop Robert Barron. Have a Blessed Divine Mercy Sunday.Beautifully Stated with Love. 🙏❤️🙏 You are in my Prayers as we pray as a resurrected people. As we name our Relatives and Family members for have gone Before us in Faith, and “Sing Holy Men and woman Pray for Us”. As we pray to the Angel’s and saints and Sing “ Holy Men and Women Pray for Us”. As We receive our Spiritual Grifts and give out in God’s Love flows from our Loving Hearts where God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit Dwells. 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️🥰😘🎁🎁🎁😊😊😊🌞🌞🌞💐💐💐
What a beautiful and enlightening homily! Thank you for sharing your understanding of St Thomas and our own doubts through him. In faith through the Church we are lead in holiness. 🙏
Thank you Bishop Barron and God bless you always 🙏
"Faith is a trust on the far side of reason" Bp. Barron which is another way of saying "I know this is right, but I cannot explain it". This of course is the definition of intuition. The healthy intuition of faith has been developing for over 50,000 years and has manifested in multitudes of societies as group cohesion, especially in times of war. Basic faith started in egalitarian societies where no priests were present and has evolved into the priest-led belief systems of modern times since the agricultural age starting about 15,000 years ago. Faith, regardless of it's fundamental veracity, is a critical element of modern society in war and in peace.
Reason and Faith - Two simple yet oh so powerful words that lead us to a true and lasting understanding of Jesus in our lives!
God bless you, my lord Bishop
Thanks Bishop for giving me a new way to think about my unbelief. Maybe I am not so much an atheist or agnostic as a doubting Thomas.
Thank you so much,Bishop Barron.
Thank you for sharing ❤
Beautiful indeed❣...U, very dear 'n most revered Bishop Barron...U really bring Home the Good News...'n How lovely are the feet of Him who brings good news...more so, HOW GLORIOUS...When The Good News IS...The Gospel Of The Covenant Of GOD...Through JESUS CHRIST...WHO Breathes On His Apostles (and Us, His Church),The Holy Spirit Of "My Shalom"...✝️GOD Bless!!!🙇♂️
There are so many profound points in this homily that stood out to me: It's a marvel to think that though our sins led to the suffering and death of Christ, He came back to impart healing to us. The Holy Spirit is the love that proceeds from the Father and the Son, and we are drawn into their mission by the Spirit. We are called to have faith, trusting what God reveals to us, not doing things on our own terms. And we experience faith so powerfully when we're together in the community of the Church. Happy Easter! Alleluia!
As someone brought up in a non-denominational church who has recently developed a deep appreciation for the Catholic Church, I have unwavering faith in Jesus as the Son of God who died and rose from the grave. However, my uncertainty lies in the Catholic Church itself. Despite my inclination to walk away at times, I find myself continually drawn to the Catholic faith.
Many of us have experienced what you are experiencing. It all comes down to this: Did Jesus establish the Catholic Church? If He founded it, then anything else is a counterfeit. Protestism has 30,000 different denominations. They can't all be right. The Catholic Church has existed for 2000 years. Read the book, Rome Sweet Home, by Professor Scott Hahn. 😊
Good Question for today's society! Prayers and Blessings!
Yes it’s going to be interesting with birth control being the major issue. On the extreme right you have IVF which allows one to have a child without the creative act and even genetically alter the person so they have a better chance of forming the child they want when they want. They don’t even have to carry the child just hire a surrogate and you can keep that 90lbs body. On the extreme left you have abortion which allows the creative act but doesn’t allow the child to live at all. Both sides are extremes of the same issue which is reproductive control and both get to decide who lives and who dies.
@@brendamyc3173, and a plethora of other societal challenges for lack of a better word. Children’s parents demanding that if their child identifies as a “whatever” , that is to be respected in the classroom. Example, a cat , giraffe, lion? People are unraveling ,and who are protecting the children !?
Great homily as always, thanks bishop ❤
Powerful. Uplifting. Thought-provoking. Thank you, and God bless you for this.
God bless you Bishop Barron!
Padre Barron. Gracias a Usted, nuestra Fe en Cristo cada vez es mayor.
Thank you Bishop Barro, God bless always. Divine Mercy Sunday and the readings associated with it is one my favorite verse in the Gospel. My Lord and my God !!!
Thank you, Bishop.
Faith and reason! Faith going beyond reason. Thank you bishop!
Thank you Bishop Barron for saying something about St. Thomas. I come from the region where St. Thomas proclaimed the gospel India. Many theologians say St. Thomas didn't receive the Holy Spirit, because he was not in the group when Jesus appeared. So he missed out . I want to say to them St. Thomas was not a Coward to stay in the locked doors under the fear of Jews. All the other disciples doubted even after seeing Him, Thomas is the only one got the privilege to put his hands in the Wounds of Jesus and declare"My Lord and my God"
❤ I love your discernment Father!!!!!!!!!God bless your soul. And please don't stop praying please!! Thank you!!!❤
I don't struggle to believe but to make others believe.
Dear Bishop Barron, I can not believe he rose but I have the heart of Christians. My name is Thomas John
Good and inspiring sermon. I am not struggling to believe but I'm struggling to keep faith. I'm struggling in every way including financially. I could use any form of help at this point. It's overwhelming.
If you have God, you have everything. Praying for you so your situation improves 🙏
Jesús Christ!!!! Thank you so much for Bishop Barron, thanks Lord for your resurrection and thanks God for life itself 💜… side note is it just me or anyone else need to pause and digest this homily; it take me around and hour to listening the whole thing because it’s so rich of the true of God and his kingdom to us that my mind 🧠 it’s like wait we need to sit and contemplate this… I always ended with a full heart and bliss … love you brothers and sisters; thank you Bishop and thanks technology ❤
This reminds me of Jordan Peterson and his wife, Tammy. He has not found Jesus just like you described. She has found Jesus in the church. That’s so clear and such a great example. Thank you.
Do I struggle to believe? No. If God and eternal life do not exist then life itself is worthless.
When the priest says, "This is my body" and raises the host, and "This is my blood" and raises the cup, I strike my breast and say "My Lord and my God, forever." Then, as the bells are rung, I look up at the host/cup, then up to the figure of Christ on the cross, and back down to the host/cup. This is the ultimate miracle that we all get to witness and partake in at least every Sunday.
Dominus vobiscum. 🙏🙏
Thank you Bishop Barron for another insightful homily. May God bless you and keep you safe and healthy so you can continue the inspiring work you do.
✝️🌹🇨🇦 Father Barron, from Canada, God Bless you.
Please be with everybody
And God bless you Bishop!
