Allow me to drop some knowledge. I have been wearing Dickies for decades, and know exactly why the 873s fit differently. The reason is because 874s are high waisted pants. Dickies 872, 873 and 803 are all low wasted pants. If you look at the belt loops on the 803, 872 and 873, you will notice the loops all sit below the waist line, but on the 874 the loops meet the bottom of the waist line. The distance from the bottom of the belt loops to the back pockets you will notice is much smaller on the 803, 872 and 873 pants. They also make pleated versions, and 'flex' versions with high and low waist with the same wide belt loops. I prefer flat front Dickies over pleated Dickies. 874 Dickies are my number one choice, but the most comfortable Dickies I have ever worn are the Dickies called 'action waste'. The action waste Dickies you can also get in pleated or flat front, and they are basically just like regular Dickies, but the pants are not actually fully connected above the front pockets, and have a hidden elastic strip. You cannot tell the elastic is even there, and the waist does not bunch up like other elastic pants. The action waist are super comfortable. I have had one action waist pair for around 20 years, and the elastic strip is still just as strong as it was when they were new. You should review the action waste. I think what it is, is that Dickies can sometimes be a little too snug, so they came up with the action waste to help you move better in the pants.

The high waist allows more room for your bawls,
and you don't have plumber crack when you bend over/.

Both those colors look really good on u. Back in the day I would have gone 873, but now that I bicycle everywhere, my thighs are more filled out so 874 is what I will choose
I got a pair of 874 last year and returned them immediately. They were huge on me. The recently I got 3 pairs of 873 and they are perfect. I am normally 32x34 in Levi’s, but 34x32 in Dickies 873.

Boy do I have some news for you, check out the Tillys website they got the slim taper flex dickies, which are in my opinion a little roomier than 873s in the thigh but taper a bit more at the bottom, the flex material also is really comfortable, much more so than the 874 or 873, which adds to the comfort of these pants. Think it’s a tillys exclusive but check em out
advice for all people undecided between 874 and 873.
I bought the 873 being that I am a tall guy with skinny legs and they went down a treat, only exception is the annoyance of the waist. The pants are very tight from the waist, I found the back attached to the butt and if I have to tell the truth, very uncomfortable even forward especially for us males

I've tried the 873, I just feel more comfortable with the higher rise of the 874. i use the 874 as my relaxed pants and keep 3 colors in stock. and keep a pair of '67 slim in 3 colors custom tapered for a cleaner look. oh and I'm 5'8 178lbs.

why is my 874 pants constricting my stomach when i sit down? when standing it's abit droppy though
@@slow-living_03 its a true to size, and sits at natural waist. For me. They will definitely stretch out with a few wears and washes. But if too restricted size up, not worth being uncomfy.

I use the Dickies’ FLEX Regular Fit Straight Leg Double Knee for work and 874 for every day use . I always have to bring them to a alterations to change the high cause every few places stock 29 or even 28 inseam

I always go up 1 and sometimes even 2 sizes in the waist with the 873, I’m a little guy 1m73, and i would say it’s the best option to us small guys

Same thing here my man, I’m always going 2 full sizes up for both 873 and 874. I would much rather wear a belt and have some room around my thighs than go tts and look like I’m wearing flares lol.

I recently ordered 3 pairs of Dickies 874. I ordered 32/32 as I am 35 inch waist (very skinny, 6ft guy). Definitely it was the worst decision. Although they fit very well in width and leg length, they are too f*$% tight in the waist and it even hurt!! Now I'm gonna try some 34/32 but I'm afraid they will be too wide on my thighs.

The 874 seems to have many more sizes available, as it seems to be their "universal" pants.
I used to where them G'd up in the 90's with Cortez... I just sent the 874's back... They are wayyy to baggy for me now I'm 5'7" and muscular. Im going to try 873 now.... If that fitment doesn't work I'll try the skinny ones... I'm used to wearing form fitting clothes lately and just cant do the baggy look..... Both look great on you though! No diddy.

the 874s are still great if you are shorter just make sure you get the correct length!
I own both 874 and 873, the 874 is way to go. 873 is way too tight on my waist and overall feels very bad after walking a while. I'd say go with 874 if you are trying to make up your mind.

I'm usually an 874 guy, being 6ft with thicker thighs they suit me better, usually a 34inch waist. Now I've just bought 873 in black 34R, I usually can pick my length but couldn't this time round on the website. Any clue as as to what 34R is???

I usually wear a 40x32 in regular jeans and bought a pair of 874's but they just seem to swallow my legs from the knee down. They fit fine in the waist and thigh area but are too baggy below the knees. Should I try the Slim Straight and maybe go to a 30 in length?
Go with the slim straight (873) that should fit a bit nicer around the lower half

I bought 2 pairs of 874s thinking they would look like that but instead the legs part of the pants is super wide. Looks super ugly. Why is that ? Did I buy like fake ones or some ? Bought them at Walmart they are 34x32 so not too different to the size you got

I wanted more room in my pants so I sized up from 30 in the 872 to a 44 in the 874. No regrets they are fun to skate which is what I wanted them for.

I think the flex version is wider than the 873's if I am not mistake the 873's are a more signature dickies slim fit
