I remember training with a black belt gi champion (way below meragali's level), and before the round he apologizes because he cannot take it easy or slow down so close to competition, he has to be ready.
That was the round that inspired me to start wearing a mouthguard.

Everybody watching knowing two things: 1 there is no way both Gordon and Meregali can coexist forever in the same building with their egos and 2 it would actually not be Gordon crushing another can and we’d get some real threat out of it. I mean the cost would be probably be another team ripping apart lol but it would be a great match and then really funny. Same goes for if they compete in the same bracket in ADCC

Lolol a beast..... uhhhh he has one major win against Vagner and anyone that watched it will side eye it.... and he was submitted at JJWL last year by heel hook in 31 seconds... beast is not the term to use. I will say Abraham was sucking air before this even started, so he may have been gassed already and then manned up for the round

@@dynamicmotion1735Watch from about 1:43 - Meregali has his knee on Abraham’s left upper arm and it looks like he has to keep the wrist up to stop it passing over. That gives Meregali easy access to grab the wrist and force it up above the head for the double underhooks

I feel like this is some kind of specific training? He's working that submission every time and his training parter gives up his half guard at one point and doesn't really seem to be moving much all that much when it hits the ground. I'm sure Meregali is good enough to control anyone but it doesn't exactly look like a hard roll right here. but maybe I'm just dumb, idk

Does anyone know what that submission is once he is in mount and has both hands locked up above his head in a smother. It seems like he's transitioning to triangle but gets the tap before that. Is it the pressure of the leg crushing the ribs??

Training against guys like that is absolute terror, they take away your stamina and slowly look for the submission, but they always do. Nicholas seems a bit sadistic, it seems he likes to torture before sub hahaha lol
he said it so himself, in a instagram post. I can't remember the exact words, but he did explicitly say he enjoys saying the desperation and helplessness on his oponents or something like that

No guard pulling, no butt scooting, no inversions, no crappy trick submissions from underneath like the buggy, no1 playing footsy….. take down, pass, smash 🤝
Lovely nogi judo as well. Uchimata and haraigoshi with good control. Nice to see in addition to wrestling.

Probably gearing up his intensity for upcoming competition. You gotta know what you're signing up for when you train at new wave.. Seems like mostly 220lb+ juiced up giants, so you're gonna get f'd up

That's the Tarikoplata. It's a great option for when you go for the kimura but your partner is locking their hands together.

Can someone explain the first sub to me? I've seen it before but a bit confused about what the sub mechanics are. Is it just pressure? Is he going for an armbar, and the pressure gets so high he taps? Does it actually suffucate or break something?
It’s an asphyxiation (chest compression).
This is likely why their lower belts excel when they are given the opportunities to compete on big stages!

His training partner first gives up mentally before anything even happens, ive been there where someones just so much better that your attempts just seem obsolete and everything you do is just a half assed attempt at some point

Been doing BJJ nogi for only 4 months now and Im all the time watching these sparring videos. I don't get what kind of submision is this, the one he uses to submit the other guy most of the times. He is on mount and blocks the two arms. Then he elevates the oponents body and put his foot underneath. I can not appreciate an arm extension so not sure is he is just not able to breath or what. Would appreciate id anyone could sort this doubt I have.
