I think you will find that it won’t help that much, most of the skill is keeping the angle as you go through the motions and if you notice the coins are not constantly under the knife.you can buy a small tool that stays with the knife and keeps a perfect angle at all times and they don’t cost much at all.

No offense, but this is terrible advice unless you want to ruin your edge. The best way to find your angle (which is different for every blade) is to lay it flat against your stone, then lift it *just* until the apex touches the stone. 3 quarters stacked will create varying angles depending on the width of the blade you're trying to sharpen, getting you nowhere.. slowly.

    • @mytrigger5613

If you don't apex and create a burr it will never be sharp, and if you don't remove the burr at the end it will make your knife feel dull after a single use, if you don't know what that means then you need to look it up before trying to sharpen, it's pretty simple, but he did not even explain the basics

  • @stremsniperisbest5728

King is great value for a whetstone but I actually recommend a diamond stone(sacc one costs about 20 bucks) at least for learning bc if you mess up your angle you wont dig into the stone and also you dont need to wet it for 10 minutes. Also a strop is nigh on mandatory for a truly sharp edge

Please dont do back and forth strokes or use the qauters as a guide 😢.
Lay the blade flat and start tilting till the blade edge sits flat and wont tilt anymore, thats the Apex! Of the blade your sharpening, which differs from blade to blade.
Do single sweeping strokes, start from hilt, push away slowly while pulling the knife across the width to its tip.. base of stone - hilt > top of stone - Tip
Do 10 strokes per side of blade, and feel the edge.. repeat as you feel necessary 😊 hope you all look after your blades correctly.
