Also, i may add for a few of the comments that all the age statements in these HP were from the old discontinued labels (pre-viking honour etc rebranding)
You're quickly becoming one of my (and it seems many other's) favourite review channel because you do two things that we all want .. 1) comparisons, and 2) blind tastings. Keep it up neighbour!
I am so glad you decided to use these as a two part blind review/taste. I appreciate you joining this tasting and helping out a very deserving charity even if you couldnt make the actual virtual tasting. I have said it before, that 10 year is a surprise whisky for a lot of people and when tasted blind, shines through. Now i am eagerly awaiting the other 4 samples to see how they fare. Cheers
@@WhiskyNeighbour well the two for sure should be done together. And the last two age statement could be done separately as well. That would make two good episodes for sure
I just picked up a 12yr Highland Park a few weeks ago. I used to enjoy the 12- and 18- year expressions but it's been a few years. Now I need to get the 10yr! Have a great week!
great video, love sample Sundays especially when you compare blind they make some of my favorite videos! I've passed on Highland Park a few times recently as the price in Ontario is really high but may give it a try if it goes on sale! also what are you saying as a "cheers" I've been wondering for too long lol
Slàinte Mhath (Pronounced Slanj-a-va), is basically cheers in Gaelic. I try to use that when drinking Scotch or Irish. I hope you enjoy HP if you get the chance.
@@WhiskyNeighbour oh interesting I like the idea of using it region dependant, it's like your signature, as far as im aware you're the only whiskey tuber I've heard say it! Cheers and have a great week!
Haven't really explored the Highland Park range, but it sounds like they're delivering solid whiskeys, even at the more 'pocket friendly' end of the line! That 10 sounds really nice.
I continue to enjoy HP. Many have walked away since the Viking Era, but I think they have a nice house style. The 10 is a great budget dram I think. You might want to try it!
Kudos for guessing ;) I was very surprised by the 10y as I recall it as very uninspiring. I might have to revisit that one. The Magnus reminds me of my experience with the HP Dark Origins. It has an amazing nose but the taste is such a let down.
Jon, I really enjoy these blind tastings. Great job. I really tried with the Magnus, but I just didn't get along with it. Two bottles later and I don't think I'll be back. The 12 I've had and enjoyed, but the 10 & 15 I've never gotten my chops around. 10 now on my radar. :)
I currently have the Magnus, the 12, 15 and 18 yr bottles of HP. Since I can't drink, due to an ongoing medical issue, I can nose my whiskey. What I've found really separates the various releases is the amount of peat present in the nose. Younger whiskey's have more noticeable peat on the nose, and it gets fainter and fainter with age. Just my $0.02.
@@WhiskyNeighbour the 10 YO isn’t sold in the US for some reason but I had a dram in my last trip to Scotland. I liked it a lot but the 15, 18, and 25 are my favorites
Nice job Jon! The Magnus is not the greatest imo. I have about a 1/4 of a bottle left of 12yr from before they changed it to Viking Honour and I absolutely love that one. Have not tried 10 or 15, will have to give the 10 a go! Thanks!
Don't beat yourself up if your individual reviews don't align with a comparison like this - they'll always smell/taste different when you've got a 'contaminated' pallet and something to compare against vs a neutral pallet. All part of the fun though! Yet to open my 10 year old, it seems to be replacing the 12 over here in the UK 🤔 Hope I enjoy it as much as you did! Cheers Jon 🥃👍
Such a shame that the price of HP12 has gone through the roof in Ontario. They good news, you can get HP10 for the same price as the Magnus - think I’ll get on that. Thanks for the review.
Highland Park and Glenrothes are the only single malts I buy anymore. I just don't have the budget... I've loved everything from these two distilleries though. Can't get the 10 here in Pennsylvania.
Well Happy U.S. Memorial Day weekend from the Glencairn Happy pigeon wood turner! It's been a while but finally getting back to catching up on a few months of your posts. I really liked this one! I do a lot of blinds and I am always surprised that age seems to play little roll in my preferences! (Well...with whiskey that is) :)
@@WhiskyNeighbour Although the alcohol content is high, I actually enjoy thr cask strength the best! However, I can't give a true evaluation as I have only tried the cask, the 10 and the 12 year.

Very interesting watch Jon. I've only had the 12, but I'm sure the others will be tried in due course. Cheers mate.
Thanks. Fun to shoot, tough to edit. I am happy with how it turned out. I really enjoy that 10!
Great video! This was awesome. I've eyed up the 10 a few times, might just have to pick it up now!
I liked it before. With this, I clearly recommend it!

Blinds are fun and important. While still only one sitting, at least on this day I can confidently say I enjoy that 10!
Absolutely love the 10 yr old! Probably the best of all worlds for me. Bit of peat, finished sweetness and right amount of proof.
Awesome!

I like the magnus, haven't tried the 10 yet.
Each of these was enjoyable, but if you can, I certainly recommend the 10!
Of that group the 15 is my favorite. It’s a delicious treat.
I enjoyed each, and the 15 coming in second still inspired me to grab a bottle. Have you had the 10? What are your thoughts?

Love the 12! The 18 is special! Magnus, for $30 is pretty good for the price. Like it more than Glenlivett or Glenfiddich.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I have yet to taste the 18! Soon.
the 10 is my favorite of the range as well. serge gave it a 90. Cheers
