- The mesmer is one of the more complex classes in Guild Wars 2, so being able to learn one playstyle to experience all of the game types can be great for learning, but also the split surge mirage is one of the more effective and fun builds in my opinion to play on mesmer, giving you a reason to want to play it everywhere.

one tip I forgot to mention: Turning off auto cast of your sword 1 skill (ctrl + right click) will give you a lot more control on when you want to use mirage thrust, and you won't go flying in at your target when you didnt intend to. Keep auto cast on greatsword 1 though.

Great vid, trying to learn Mesmer. Can I ask a really dumb question? Where can I find a simple breakdown of where to put all the Hero points into what? What's the spec?
this is a great video format and im not sure how many people will care, But i'm tell you right now, I'd like this a lot more if one singular detail was in the video, with the PVE rotation part of the video, I'd like to know what DPS the build does, both because it gives veterans the ability to compare to their own builds, and it gives newer players an idea of what benchmark to be striving for if they care about their personal dps

I’ve been playing Guild Wars since GW1. Mesmer was always my most least favorite class because I just couldn’t adjust to the play style. This was a really great video. After a week of practicing and familiarizing myself with it. I found myself loving this build/play style so much that the Mesmer will most likely be my new main. Thank you for taking the time to make a quality video that even this old timer can follow o7.
Every one of these all-in-one builds are amazing, thank you. Really vibes with my mindset as well (viable vs optimal). I'm a casual alt-o-holic so I now have months of new playstyles to explore. Please consider revisiting this series after EoD drops!
I don't know when you shifted your type of content because I usually only watched pvp gameplay but since you started this type of content you're up there in the best content content creators for the game to me. So I just found this channel and this video. I've been accidentally changing my build into this, which is fun to see I was on the right path. I will give virtuoso a try, but if I don't like it, I'll go back and improve it into this. Thank you for the video. Nice to see so many people having a try on mesmer. It's my first (and only character I enjoy).
I'm a returning play and really torn on what to play as I'm currently between ascended gear, but this looks so nice to be able to be versatile & effective in multiple types of content.
I appreciate the harder content I face I may need to become more specialised in my gear, but as you touched on - a build like this allows you to find a groove &rythm and gives you that time to work on new higher end sets etc.

I main a Necro and shelved my Mesmer a while ago. Was looking for a strong and fun do-it-all alt and found this vid. Pulled Mesmer off shelf and wow am I surviving well in pve and owning people in pvp. Thanks for the tips.

I'm playing Mirage myself for past couple weeks and i can't wait to try this, i put all my points into chronomancer following a different build so i gotta hope to catch a HoT HP train to get rest of my HP's there and hunt down all the path of fire ones which i hardly got any of. and hopefully i won't have to hunt down a million more 1 HP's around world, i dunno, will see. Once i do got enough HP's i'll switch to this build to try it out. Thanks for the video. saved. I'm still sort of new so i do find PVE challenging, for example right now there is plenty of HoT HP's i can't solo as i can't kill the boss before it resets lol, but hoping that'll all change especially once i can try out your build. I don't PVP and appreciate you showing a good PVE build that i could take to other parts of game when i feel i'm up for it like wvwvw
Just began Mesmer and boosted it to level 80. I’m 86 now after some days and am enjoying redoing all of the beginning missions using your video as a guide. Was always hesitant to play Mesmer until now, so thank you. But I am still learning the game and there’s so much left… I have yet to unlock Elite Mirage. Currently stocking up on Hero Points.
Just started playing GW2 and picked mirage. Tried this build out and its pretty fun! I have to learn the ins and outs still but im getting there haha. I will say that surviving with this build was much easier than the base one the game sets you up with

This build put back the survivability into Mesmer i fought a hammer warrior in PVP till he ran away when he got to low health. Kudos

Pretty good build so far for one of the hardest classes to negotiate in play. And you're right very rewarding to finger ninja out.
the only drawback for me so far is ease of life remounting when held in combat by the constant stream of clones

I was planning to take my Mesmer into EoD first and will probably use this before i unlock some of Virtuoso.
Playing the blurred inscription core mesmer in pvp made me fall in love with the class that never really clicked with me before. It's good to have a different, more damaging build to quickly switch to for those matchups where there is already 3 duelists.
That said, not having auspicious anguish, only one dodge and no stealth+superspeed shenenigans is taking some serious getting used to for now... ^^"
Been away from gw2 for a while but damn, this build just made me re dowload the game !
If your focus is pve metas or openworld, I highly recommend Sigil of Stamina on your GS: Your endurance is refilled each time you kill a foe. This basically lets you spam mirage cloak like its no tomorrow
I’m a new player making my way through icebrood rn with this build, this tip is much appreciated as ads tend to pile up when one doesn’t have ascended gear/actually understand the class XD
I've been playing mesmer since gw1. I was so annoyed by the utter gutting of mesmer with the mirage nerf but this build saved my favorite class.

I followed your Guardian FB build and was hitting 15k dps fairly easily, also on exotic gear so not even optimal and im finding things dying just as i start getting into it.. I love my Mesmer so will try this for sure.
of course I will give this build a chance even if I haven't gotten so warm with the Mesmer so far, only the build of Lord Hizen as a Mirage with two staffs has been a bit of fun for me so far

Actually, I won't mind a second take on all classes with 'second best' builds or just the coverage of other elite specs, like builds for Chrono, Scourge, Daredevil, Dragonhunter, etc.

When i tried this build in a party, for the life of me I couldn't spot the mirrors with all the effects. Wish there was a way to change the mirrors to something noticable when the area is "loud". Thx for the vid

I was afraid it was going to be celestial gear^^; guess greatsword is confirmed as best weapon; anyway great series; I agree, playing different classes in different gamemodes is the best thing about gw2; I alway found mesmer to be mechanically the most intrieguing class besides maybe revenant
Great videos by the way. How do these hold up for a new to fractals player? Like how far into fractals are you going with this build? I rewatched the fractal part and hear you say 96 but not sure what that means.

Watched this a bit late, but it’s definitely a great video.
I have no intention of soloing high level content...but it would be nice to show off a little if the rest of my party dies. This is pretty much the gear I already use so, I'll definitely try your build.
The Sigils of Energy are nice, but the Energy regen isn't quite fast enough to give enough to constantly weapon swap to have a fluid/seamless weapon swap. There's roughly a second and a half left before it's time to swap weapons.
Question, i'm now trying your build, don't have all best gear yet but got my skill bar and talents setup the way you do. I mostly play PVE and so far i'm not finding much use for all the movement skills. to be honest it's really awkward trying to use movement skills on that 2nd skill bar. I'm comfortable enough with the dodge key but then adding like 2 more movement skills to 2nd bar is so awkward to use i feel like those slots are going to waste. So how do you use those? What do you have those buttons mapped to? I'm using an MMO mouse as hitting keys 1-9 has never been comfortable to me while also needing to use wsad etc for moving. I also have issues with functionality in my left hand. But even with having mapping on my MMO mouse using those skills is still awkward, i also constantly lose sight of my mouse so when i do want to use a movement skill it takes a second or 2 to find my mouse to then click area of ground to teleport to and by then it's likely too late to be of any use, i could just walked there. I'm sure those skills are super helpful in PVP but as a PVE player i'd rather not have to use skills that need my mouse to put down an area on ground just to quickly teleport. Why do i need that many teleports? What's benifit? Why do i want to lose damage utilities or utilites for buffing myself or whatever in place of skills that simply teleport me? And as far as i can tell, only the dodge makes clones, so when i use those teleport skills on my 2nd bar of skills, none of them are even generating clones or anything. Just trying to understand what i'm missing here so i can understand so i can give this build a chance. EDIT: Maybe once i play more with sword i'll find more uses for the extra teleports, right now i'm mostly using the 2h sword which is mostly ranged, i'll keep at it and hopefully this will make more sense as i play it more.

Does this build only work at high end gear levels or can it work starting out? I plan on making a mesmer and wanted something simple to use to start and if its an all in one build, its perfect.
I find my self running doom sigil on GS because gs ends up being like downed state cleave or just gank after reset a lot of the time and denying them that heal potential is huge.
I loved this build whenever you first released your roaming video on it. However, for the life of me I cannot kill anyone, I don't understand how you do it :(

hello, so im loving the build, but i still dont have enough agony to go t4. Is the build viable for that group content? I mean will ppl pick on you because you are not playing some "meta" build?
Would you lose much in the way of dps if you go all marauder gear and made the trinkets zerker ?
Thanks for the guide. I've always wanted to try making a mesmer. However, do you have a written guide for the rotation? It seems very complicated.
For pvp (basic ones, there are also more with swaps and animation cancels):
Ideal opener:
1. Pistol 4 (phantasm) is your opener due to its CD and delay in clone generation, when they see pistol aiming, they'll start burning their defensive CDs
2. Pistol 5 (stun) immediately after phantasm.
3. Sword 3 (clone generation)
After that you either swap with sword clone to daze and do sword 2/1 combo in melee or swap to GS to start melting from range weave in ambush skills dependding on enemy reactions
Surprise opener:
1. Start casting pistol 5 outside of enemy range/FOV
2. Blink in right before pistol 5 finishes CD
3. Proceed with Pistol 4/Sword 3-2-1/GS
Long range opener:
GS 4 > GS 3 (optional) > GS 2 > GS 1 > (phantasm GS4 turns to clone) > Dodge into 3 clone ambush
Build-dependent opener + heavy burst (requires illusory ambush and mirror images, but shows how distortion helps maintain HEAVY dps):
1. GS 4 > GS 2 > Dodge > GS 1 > Distortion > Mirror Images > Jaunt/Illusory Ambush (depending on position of enemy and your mirrors) > Just keep 3 clones andd walk into 3 mirrors one by one with pace of around 1 mirror per 1.75 sec
would this build benefit with diviner’s gear? or is berserkers the way to go

Far as I can tell it is. Build on the site was updated on feb 27 of this year.
i think staff mirage is the most hybrid build on all types.
very tanky and slippery wvw, can do cdps alac on fractals and raid, very mobile and can cleave very good with chaos vortex and chaos armor.
of course you change your build on different situation.
This build still viable in EoD? I'm just coming back from a 3-4 year break and wanna update my axe mirage for doing the chapters I've missed.
Other than necro, what in your opinion is the best class to play solo, one that can get those difficult hero points, bosses, and solo stuff they shouldn't be able to. I recently came back to the game and rolled a Ranger but I just feel so squishy sometimes. Whether it is PVP or PVE, but to be fair I have not yet unlocked all of soulbeast so I'm still a basic Ranger. Ive been thinking about rolling either a mesmer or rev. I have a max lvl Thief and Guardian, just forgot how to play them.

@@Vallun Thank you, up untill now i followed 3 builds of yours, they are all good in their own way. I found Mirage damage a bit lacking. Since the cloned do very little damage themselves. This coming from a first time Mirage player. I liked necro, and currently playing soulbeast a bit.

mesmer is so big brain, i struggle to play it and to fight against them in pvp, people call me noob for not being able to fight them well in pvp but shrug, i just can't learn the matchup.
