  • This video shows how to replace the brake pads on most 4 pot calipers. Please read the note* at the end.
00:04 Step 1:remove the slide pins (and their cotter pins)
00:53 Step 2: remove the anti rattle clip
00:58 Step 3: Slide the old brake pads out
01:24 Step 4: Open the brake bleeder valve
01:53 + 02:52 Step 5: Slide\compress the pistons back in + close the bleeder valve
03:03 Step 6: Insert the new brake pads
03:18 Step 7: Clean the slide pins
03:38 Step 8: Reinsert the slide pins and the anti rattle clip
05:06 Step 9: Pump the brake lever until it's no longer squishy, or better yet bleed the system and add fresh brake fluid. Some times a little air may enter the system when "compressing" the pistons this way. (Either way, always check the fluid's level and top it off as required!).
*Here's the note: Compressing the pistons back to their original position in the way shown, with the bleeder open, is an effective way that lets you use minimum force, that's why gently prying them with a screw driver was sufficient. It also prevents the brake fluid from dripping out of the reservoir BUT some air may enter the system. The video shows that it's necessary to pump the brake lever a few times to let the pistons advance, however it's best to always bleed the circuit afterwards to remove any unwanted air.
I did it and no air actually came out. Working on vehicles of any kind is dangerous, while this methods works, we cannot be held responsible for any mistakes you may make... like not bleeding the system, bedding the pads in (different story, for a different video...), damaging the calipers etc.
