Here's a brief little context that some people are looking for :) So apparently, the girl had drinking and partying problems as well as skipping classes and being suspended for showing up to homecoming drunk. The parents believe most of her actions were because of her relationship with her boyfriend. The parents decided that if she continues this lifestyle, she would have to move out by 18. When she turned 18, she moved to her boyfriends for 2 days and then moved to her friends. She decided to sue her parents for "financial support" of $654 week and to pay for her tuition to college. She claimed her mom called her abusive names and that her father was "inappropriately affectionate" with her. Obviously the judge knew she was being an entitled little brat. She volunteered to drop the case after she got massive amount of hate.
Back in the day, whenever I acted stupid (still less stupid than her, of course), all it took was one punch from my dad to my face to make me realize I done goofed real bad and swore to never do it again unless my life depends on it. For the record, I never thought that it was violence at all. I understood full well why dad punched me real hard: because he loves me, and doesn't want me to end up dying like a joke because of something stupid I did myself. That fist of his was the Fist of Love filled with concern and warmth. And because of that, I managed to be a splendid adult, if I say so myself. Today, parents can't even give their kids education without those very kids suing their ass, even if the parents didn't punch them at all.
moonrice555 Naw, I was lazy I didn't go that far honestly. That's actually pretty rare for me. I just half watched the video. Why is my comment that illogical? Sorry for paining you. I recommend a documentary stat.
moonrice555 There has been people like this since the sawn of time. It was worse in the 1800's. What is your country? I can say you are the same way. You assume we were in the same country. Then applied your logic to it. Therefore, "Everybody has a knee-jerk reaction to EVERYTHING---without doing any investigation." :P ,,, It happens. I'm not holding it against you.
ShoeLaccey Mintyoreos Staecey I am capable of reacting---but not to the same degree. I don't make it a way of life like most people. Most people don't stop to think---which is why they are so easily led around by the media.
moonrice555 I don't either. I just get humoured by media really. It's entertainment. I don't take any of it seriously to be fair unless it's some real critical events that clearly are happening around me effecting massive population. Instead of talking about most people. Why not start your own movement and preach? It's the only way things are every going to change. Set your emotions free in a way to enlighten other people too. Or else it will continuously progress this way and more dumb decisions will be made thus effecting society as a whole. The future is now. All we can do is accept what's up and work with it a little bit at a time. The domino effect and the internet are very powerful. Don't doubt it.

Just think how famous the lawyer would be if the lawyer had won. She be credited with making new laws. She would haverich kids all over the U.S. suing their parents. Poor people would not waste their time. They have now money.
@Roy Sunshine , @William 989 i don't want to go much in detail but give an example So in my country one of the most respected lawyer named Ram Jethmalani, guy's practised law for more than 60 years , been law minister and got International Jurist Award. But he also defended major corrupt politicians, murderers, terrorists So once a journalist asked why he defends such people, and he simply said "Good laws doesn't come from good cases but the bad ones"
You know I’ll admit it, when I was a kid I was very disrespectful to my parents. But even at my worst I would never sue them because even in my worst moments I still loved them.
Unless your child has some psychological impairment (e.g. sociopathic) any aspect of the child both physical and personal is 100% the result of the parents. A child is literally a copy of DNA of both parents, the rest is environmental influences which is also solely from the parents during the child's developmental age, until they start state education there is usually no external influences. So there is no excuse for a bad child, it is all just bad parenting.
@@RM-ml2xk that's just bad biology. the child is a mix of the parent's genetics, they are a completely new and unique individual. add in all the random mutation and developments that occur during development of the sperm/egg/fetus/etc and you have a child that is SIMILAR to their parents but not an exact copy. and were your chiildren locked up in the house until they went to school? they didnt meet friends or family? preschool or daycare? didnt watch tv or hear radio? enough of this bullshit. parents are the biggest influence, but they aren't the only one.
My stepdad owns a law business. He says sometimes it’s hard to want to defend the suspect because of what they did, but he has too because he makes money off of defending them.
@@phillysteak-t5v Yeah, and they have the legal right to counsel. Scum of humanity sometimes need defending but it is their legal right. Then, once they've had that legal right, they are rightfully imprisoned. Still, that's a hard way to earn a living.
On what evidence do you base this assumption? How do you know she wasn't a model for eleven years? You don't know anything. Prove your point, if you can. The courts are no place for assumptions. This is another person's life. A life, in which you probably know nothing about. If you cannot know someone else, how can you assume that your experiences would match up with theirs? You can't...
She probably took a sht load of her parents money out and transferred its to her bank account, and she's running out of money, so she's suing her parents
+Andy Broberg That precedent has already been set. Kids have been suing parents for various things for at least two decades now, and they prevail more often than not.
+Elizabeth Reyes Ok, so then under any circumstances should a parent be allowed to administer corporal punishment to their kid? I say that these days more kids need an ass-whippin' to get them back in line. Parents aren't even allowed to parent anymore.
Ya that’s why the little bitch lost. If she excepted her parents to pay her way instead of working and paying for it herself she should of kissed their asses a little longer or stayed in their good graces. This entitlement of this generation could be the end.
The pervasive global myth of Americans being the most litigious... It's like the wage-gap myth. No matter how many times you prove it false, people still pretend it is true. Sigh... Here is a list of the top 5 most litigious countries per capita: 1. Germany: 123.2/1,000 2. Sweden: 111.2/1,000 3. Israel: 96.8/1,000 4. Austria: 95.9/1,000 5. U.S.: 74.5/1,000
They raised her from the day she was born and she had the audacity to sue her own parents for financial support? This sickens me to the max. I would slap the living mess out of that brat if I could, even if “it” was reformed.
...there's a reason why teenage pregnancy is recognized as a social issue, guys. respect individual choice, yes, but when its consequence affects the child's future and the rest of the society...it's no longer an individual choice... (I get that we shouldn't be judgmental, but it's true that it is a problem...teenagers shouldn't be getting pregnant.)
@@intj1434 yes absolutely definitely should not be an individual choice, many children are really dumb these days because of the failed education system a lot of places, bad role models in parenting and even the president sometimes. 007K Unfortunately, a child who moves out voluntarily and lives with a friend or other relatives is considered "homeless" and is entitled to financial support from government agencies. Paid for by the American Taxpayers who has no choice but to fund their choice
Ha, suing your parents because they wont help you out enough. You can kiss your inheritance goodbye now. Her parents wont do a damn thing for her now that she's pulled this stunt.
+NOVA Crazy. If her parents have any intelligence, this won't happen. The girl will mature eventually, the parents SHOULD understand that. Alter the path of your own child's life because of something they did when they were still a kid? Not likely.
+NOVA They made up anyway. Obviously kids like this, come from families like that. Good parents don't have bad children. Also, this isn't unprecedented. If parents get divorced, the non-custodial must continue to supply a ton of money to maintain lifestyle. Why shouldn't it be like that when both parents abandon a child?
yeah i was expecting more but considering mcDonk it is lol, they're usually real straight by the book but the judge dropped some knowledge on that bitch.
"When you were growing up", doesn't in anyway compare to the condition of today. You too are twisting things. #1, your life-story is most likely different than this young woman's and #2: You're only aware of your own experiences. You have not experienced hers'. #3: Today's economic output is drastically different than yesteryear's. You can't compare your life growing up, to this girl's -- or anyone's -- because it is impossible to negotiate only one or more discrepancies between your life and another's.
Robert Jones #1 - what does my life being different from this young woman's have anything to do with necessity and propriety? #'2 - this is the same as the first, only worded differently. #3 - again, covered by the first. What one requires growing up from a decade or two ago hasn't differed much from today. Education, stimulation, emotional/mental/physical development. To talk of the "condition of today" implies that society has moved on so far that children today require so much more, which they, of course, do not. Don't be absurd.
"When you were growing up". Over time, equations change, because the values of the metrics included within those equations, change. Of course shit would be different from whence you grew up. In fact, the way you grew up, and the production of you -- and everyone else, of your era -- is responsible for today's mess. So you congratulate yourself, but you conveniently dismiss the damage your same era created. (Humans have a bias of overconfidence of their better traits, while ignoring or overshooting the proportional, negative value of their mistakes.) It is a cognitive bias... Especially in groupthink. We are a product of yesterday's agency. When we decide to get our head out of our asses, and think about our children, then maybe variables wouldn't change so drastically. I have never understood why people want to fuck, fuck, fuck, but never fuck the shit out of their society -- economically and sociopolitically speaking -- to share, or create an even better tomorrow for their own offspring. That makes no fucking sense to me!
why would they slap you for a yes or no question ? I can see if they slap you if you get upset because they said no but your parents must still have brain of a child if they can't handle a simple question ...........
Context: The girl in said video is 18. She is a legal adult, yet wants to sue her parents for full financial support because she is not yet "emancipated". The girl claims her mother would call her names like "fat", and "porky", and that her father threatened to hit her (she never claimed he actually did). This girl moved out of her own volition to live with her boyfriend because she fely like her parents rules were too harsh, and that they told her she could no longer see her boyfriend. She began living with said boyfriend and a friends family. Later, after becoming aware of how difficult it is to financially sustain yourself as an adult, she decided to sue her own parents for everything they had, including falsely claiming that they had abused her and kicked her out. (Her family actually asked her to come back when she left.) The girl claims it is her parents responsibility to completely financially support her, including her future college tuition, "until she is able to support herself". Basically, this legal adult is trying to get a free ride for several years by forcing her own parents, whom she willingly left, to pay her way to success so she doesnt have to.
Her parents that abused her. They probably have some kind of toxic behaviour towards her. She is an honor student (school let her finish her trimester without paying), has a job, is a good athlete, doesn’t smoke. Looks to me like a smart person, responsible person. Parents' fault all the way.

Exactly, I remember my mother used a lot of curse words arounds the house for me and my elder brother, so naturally I started calling my brother those abusive names( I was 5 or 6 shouting curses no person can imagine lmao)
Chill'n Krillian still not a good point. My dad was a total wife beater, and kid abuser, and eventually ended up leaving me and my brother. Did I become a wife beater? Did I follow in his footsteps? Nope. Either way, that is your mom. They gave birth to you, and gave you life. That alone deserves a level of respect. Who cares if your parent curses you out when you make a mistake. That’s not the best way to raise a child but if it fucks you up to the point you sue, you are either a spoiled soft bitch or you don’t learn to get better. you don’t like the life they gave you, run away and try to make it on your own. Then you realize how important your parents really are to you. Don’t fuckin sue them over whatever this clearly entitled brat is suing them for The parents give her a roof to sleep under, food, and water. What the hell did she ever give them to earn the right to curse them out like that? The way I see it, Both are in the wrong. But only one party has no reason to disrespect and would go so far to sue.
I don't. This attorney did not have to take this case. The attorney thought this was going to be some kind of social ground breaking opportunity where kids get to blame their parents for not giving them everything they want, when they want it.
***** A Giz Whoa whoa, you two have got it all wrong. I'm not sympathetic to the daughter. I am sorry for the attorney having to deal with her. She's obviously spoiled, and I felt the attorney was wasting her time on a stupid girl.
Sad. My parents came from very humble beginnings and worked their butts off so my brother and I could have our own cars, travel around the world, go to private schools and never need nor hardly want for anything. I could never imagine feeling so entitled as to take them to court over something like this
@White Pig - Omg you are totally right!! You're so smart. Yeah, and she does seem the type to be a prick but the reality of the video is that we really don't understand the context. From what we do know, the family might have not raised her well and the judge even said that it wasn't like a kid with an Xbox or flat screen TV.
***** On my very first legal application, I applied for a plumber at a construction site (today construction companies REALLY need workers), I was first paid 9$ for being a green helper, then I went to the office did some technical work as in fixing their computers, learned very quick, became a plumber with reading blueprints, layout, glue pipes, operate a tractor, and that's all just for the underground part. and now 2 months later I get paid 12$ without ever asking for a raise. I am still being greatly underpaid for the work that I do but the point is if you want a job you can find one. Before this one I worked at a Chinese buffet under the table. Before that I bought broken airsoft guns wholesale then resold them on eBay. Nellie K. Adaba Yeah me to everything is so very similar. Disgusting really this girl really thinks she does not owe them anything for trying to get her to go to school which she herself quit and raising her but instead after going away for years she comes back as a adult and sue's them to pay for her schooling because she changed her mind. Ah thanks because I wondered why she sued their parents and for abuse I totally get it when if I would get hit by my parents I would sue them too. So I don't understand the judge why is he so ,,respect your parents even if they hit you"
""I have been subjected to severe verbal and physical abuse by my mother and father," Canning wrote in a court certification. "I am not willingly and voluntarily leaving a reasonable situation at home to make my own decisions. I had to leave to end the abuse." Canning left her parents' home at the end of last October. After spending two nights at her boyfriend's home, she moved into the home of her friend in a nearby town, where she has been staying ever since, according to court documents written by the parents' attorney. " Where were his harsh words for the parents that abused their daughter though?
Nick Chivers thats not old school thats still the way it is. And for good reason too! Trust me, u dont want it the other way around its a terrible way.
@Nosferatu Zodd hes talking about setting a precedent, which is well within his bounds, seen as it's his job. You're taking a snippet of a case out of context and ascribing motive to a judge. Judges aren't there to hear you bitch about your problems, they interpret the law and pass judgement as to the legality of an issue.
I really do think she's blowing up the issue. She moved in with her parents after the case. I don't know how much evidence of "physical and verbal abuse" was found.
@Nosferatu Zodd she was unjustly treated ? The parents were sick of her behaviour and they threw her out when she turned 18. She demanded the financial support, and when that case was thrown out she moved in again with her parents.
The line should have been drawn along time ago when it comes to what people can sue for. I'm glad this little brat didn't get anything but grounded for the rest of her miserable, spoiled life.
+Dan Zalisnock answer the question, is it right that her parents are denying her a college education? Idk maybe its because im a college graduate myself, but i feel that her anger is justified, as her parents are closing a lot of doors and opportunities in her future. Age is but a number my friend.
+victor “AdiSWAG” james she could be like everyone else in America and fill out for student loans or grants. just saying what makes her so damn special. also if she would have done better in high school she might have been able to EARN a scholarship, but I guess asking her to EARN something is just asking too much of our youth now days.
+Theresa Arbogast not everyone qualifies for grants, and taking out a $120,000+ loan to pay for college is probably the worst thing you could do in your life. It is also not easy to get a full ride scholarship, you say it like it is something relatively common. At that point, the parents showed that they did not care about the girls future, so she has to do what she has to do for herself and her possible future family.
And because of judges like that I never had the courage to go against my parents. I had to endure the mental and physical torture they laid on me throughout my childhood, and now as an adult, I have depression and other things that destroyed my life pretty much. My biggest regret is not leaving them or sueing them for what they did to me. Not all parents are angels, some are abusive deadbeat monsters

They can just buy themselves shiit, they'd be much happier. Instead, they spend on their children, trying to make them happy. Ungrateful and entitled.
I'd never sue my parents, because it would really inconvenience them. They would have to get a quote from a building company, because there would be a hole in the wall. Plus, they would have to call an ambulance to take my body away. And they would have to tidy up the garden where my lifeless body left an impression in the ground from the impact.
It is irritating when a video only gives a tiny part of a story. After watching this video I still have no idea if the girl is in the right or not because it does not say WHY she sued her parents.
+Corey Collins Considering how she probably doesn't qualify for finical assistance because of her parents money, I kinda feel her parents are obligated to try to help her out.
Why do Americans feel like parents are necessarily deserving of respect? I see so many American parents whining about what their kids are like as if they had nothing to do with the way things turned out. This immediate pointing the finger at the bratty child betrays a deep and fundamental lack of undertstanding of what parenting responsibility is. And it is made worse by everyone buying into this circulating "parents are justified and excused" crap. I don't know - is it the bible influence? This idea that parents should be respected "Just because" and unruly children stoned or eaten by bears as punishment? I have been an educator of troubled kids and youths for some 15 years now. And whenever I see a kid acting out in radical ways - whenever I meet the parents - I know where they got it all from. It's not rocket science. This image of "regular upstanding folks" who just had a bad, random case of changelings thrown at them out of nowhere - that is just not true in 90% of instances. And in the remaining 10% there is usually some kind of rather obvious psychopathological cause combined with unfortunate circumstances or a quite astounding lack of parenting resources or empathy only outdone by the levels of abuse involved. If a child fucks up consistently - look to the parents. I repeat. Look to the parents. And what do you know ... experience tells us if you can fix some of the dysfunctional behaviour patterns of the parents - really fix them - usually there is a notable change in the behaviour of the child if things have not gone too far afield and the personality of the child not too irreperaby damaged. Like I said - it's not rocket science. But the American approach seems to be that storks bring the normal kids and trolls bring the juvenile delinquents. Or rather delinquents just deliberately make themselves out of pure meanspiritedness. Maybe under the influence of demons and strange eeeevil powers. Surely it could not be inept parents and a dysfunctional enculturated view of the causes and effects of child behaviour. And what is usually the suggested remedy? More punishments. More attempts at scaring, abusing and coercing kids into doing right. Guess what - it didn't work the first time. And it won't the next either. They have seen it before. Maybe they duck. Maybe they confront, maybe they run away, maybe they destroy themselves or somebody else. But nothing is learned and nothing changed and no causal relationships are properly investigated and dealt with in a professional or otherwise competent manner. It's just easier to point the finger and whip out the old leather belt. There's a trick even an drooling idiot can learn.
don't know why you brought the bible into this, this way of thinking is part of pretty much every culture. Look at asia - confucianism tells you to respect your parents just like the bible does. It's just the way human beings have been tuned until some finally figured out that that doesn't make any sense.
I did so because that is a VERY prevalent and heavily culturally sedimented American context and one that is echoed in so many aspects of relationships between children and adults in popular American discourse it's not even funny. I don't know why you would put it on me to be excluding potential similarities in other philosophical traditions. However YOU would probably have your work cut out for you if you wanted to make a generalised global statement about it - unless you have access to the results of some large-scale comparative global survey spanning both countries and centuries. Not saying you couldn't - but I am saying you'd have a lot of work ahead of you arguing for discrete similarities and differences and accounting for other reasons for those things being there in each case. What you mean by "the way human beings have been tuned" is unclear from an academic standpoint. I predict issues with that. Ignoring the "tuning" part I suggest that it would be more likely to look for contextual cultural and structural reasons for the comparison you want to make. If people behave the same way across history under comparative circumstances but differently under others - it just more likely that circumstance is the operative factor than whether or not individuals have "been tuned" but suddenly "realise their way out of it" which suggests a move from something spiritually or biologically determined by way of a change in perceptions of something socially constructed. I gets kinda messy if you ask me.
Okay, but when are parents going to realize that you can’t say or do what ever to a child and expect that child to grow up grateful and appreciative? If the girl was having a drinking problem and falling behind in classes and getting suspensions, what the hell was happening behind closed doors to make a teenager an alcoholic? Kids are not born good or bad, children are born as blank canvases. If you fill a child with hate, they will not be grateful. If you fill a child with reasons not to trust you, they never will. If you fill a child with trauma, the spill over from that mental anguish WILL bite you in the ass. You child is a mirror of you and your parenting, if things aren’t going like you like them too ask yourself why and start treating your kids like the people they are.

Being provided with food and a home is something that parents are required to provide to their children. You can be grateful for that, but it doesn't make you your fathers slave. You don't owe him your life. You don't owe your parents anything except to try to find a place for yourself in life in which you don't need to rely on them. That's what parents are for.

There are still people whom born after your generation that is humble and that appreciates life like you, its just that this kind of thinking with younger generations is slowly being changed by society, mental health day to day, technology, and other factors.
This Girl will regret her actions someday she can be homeless sleeping on the streets. Her nightmares will haunt her forever what she tried sue her Parents. Girl you done wrong. If you read this please apologize to your parents.
***** The level of disrespect someone must have to be willing to sue their parents for college fund when that money belongs to the parents. It's like demanding your inheritance while the parents are alive. I wouldn't enable my kid in that, I wouldn't tolerate it. He pull that, he's out on his own without my help. Frankly, your insult and derogative term towards me doesn't change my thinking. It just lessen any respect I would have for you.
From what I remember when I originally saw this I’ll try to give a brief description of the timeline, so the daughter was drinking, skipping class, and more. So the parents thought it was the boyfriend who had problems himself so they told her that she can break up with him or move out when she turned 18 so she moved out then two days later she moves with a friend then proceeds to sue the parents for around 615$ a week, and to pay her full collage tuition, then claims that they were abusive and cps found nothing to backup her claim, and this video is the end result of all of that. I may have missed something but this is these are the main points
Here's a brief little context that some people are looking for :)
So apparently, the girl had drinking and partying problems as well as skipping classes and being suspended for showing up to homecoming drunk.
THANK YOU!
thank you
Back in the day, whenever I acted stupid (still less stupid than her, of course), all it took was one punch from my dad to my face to make me realize I done goofed real bad and swore to never do it again unless my life depends on it.
Thank you for giving the rest of the information

ShoeLaccey Mintyoreos Staecey I am capable of reacting---but not to the same degree. I don't make it a way of life like most people. Most people don't stop to think---which is why they are so easily led around by the media.

Instead of talking about most people. Why not start your own movement and preach? It's the only way things are every going to change. Set your emotions free in a way to enlighten other people too. Or else it will continuously progress this way and more dumb decisions will be made thus effecting society as a whole. The future is now.
Don't be absurd.
i have a soccer ball im set.

How did that even get to the level of an actual court case is my question
""I have been subjected to severe verbal and physical abuse by my mother and father," Canning wrote in a court certification. "I am not willingly and voluntarily leaving a reasonable situation at home to make my own decisions. I had to leave to end the abuse."
Canning left her parents' home at the end of last October. After spending two nights at her boyfriend's home, she moved into the home of her friend in a nearby town, where she has been staying ever since, according to court documents written by the parents' attorney.
"
Where were his harsh words for the parents that abused their daughter though?
@Nosferatu Zodd yeah or maybe hes one of those old school "innocent until proven guilty" judges.
Give her $200 and tell her to leave home. See what happens next.
If enough parents took notes and practiced what this judge is doing, then the world and internet would be a better place.
not harsh, but sensible.

+victor “AdiSWAG” james If you are trying to justify this then I feel sorry for you. What are you? 19 or under would be my guess

Some parents deserve respect, most of them don't. Period.
Jesse Tyler Ridgway
Deserve means you earned which means you put in the hours and directed the effort in a somewhat reasonable way.
don't know why you brought the bible into this, this way of thinking is part of pretty much every culture.
I gets kinda messy if you ask me.
whynottalklikeapirat

You're blind if you choose to even ignore this, everything in the US is sue to get rich it's damn near the 101 on how to get money quick. Half the shows listed are actually based on real legal precedence - meaning they actually took place in a United States court of law. How this is obscure to you? Your court system is a perfect example of why it's so backed up is because of lawsuits. Not just people suing people but people suing businesses and businesses suing businesses and businesses suing government, government suing businesses and the malpractice suits - dear omnipotence - you have some of the best more advanced medical programs yet doctors have to take out multi-multi million dollar insurance policies because of the lawsuits. This is due to there being legal precedence to do so, which is very apparent in the US legal system. The President-Elect has had and has businesses sued into the stone-age, you're soon to have a President who embodies lawsuits. Get off your high horse, it's very apparent there's an entitlement issue that exists. What other developed countries do this? Also, the term 'ambulance chaser' that's a term derived in the US as per the West's Encyclopedia of American Law.

I grew up in a poor family where we ate whatever we had and wore thrift store clothes. We only ask for something once and if Mom couldn't buy it we never rub it in her face or made her feel less of a woman for not being able to buy what her kids want. 4 years ago we bought our mother her house and told her she'll never have to pay a bill ever again. I'm the only one in my family who has a college education all my siblings have only finished high school, but we are all successful and make good money. Not only that, but we are very appreciative of everything we have in life, and even though we didn't have much growing up we are very grateful for all the sacrifices our mother made for us.
