Not a fan of diving in underneath for this very reason, if the outside driver is not checking his mirrors one or both of you is going off. The fact that this happened during qualifying is what makes this even more ridiculous, as I am sure the driver of this car was not expecting someone to dive in under him....SMH
Have raced there before, was taught to center the overpass, then cut the inside curb before you straighten out for the S/F line. Otherwise that corner will throw you into the outside wall. That other driver had no business to pass on the inside there. Even if he hadn't hit you, he would have pushed you into the wall. Damn shame.
No, I am afraid not. As soon as the master switch is killed all of the video goes off. I will again repeat my praise of the medical and crash recovery teams. They were with me in seconds and had me at the track medical center within minutes. Very Professional!
I don't know. I saw nothing in my mirrors coming down the back straight. He wasn't in my mirrors going into T10b. At the top of the hill under the bridge eyes were forward for obvious reasons. Because of the angle coming down the hill I couldn't see anything on the inside in my mirror as I looked into turn in to T12. I also had a spotter up by the tower at T12 and he didn't see anything until the very last seconds. Bottom line is that T12 is a nasty place to make a pass on someone.
@@smtbigelow Wow, I had to play it back a couple more times and I believe you're right. All the times I've driven HPDE there they didn't have a guy in that flag stand, just one in the middle of the back straight.
@@smtbigelow from what i understand blue flags are purely informational and its still up to the faster car to safely overtake, he should have probably done that on the start/finish straight
Wow, what a freaking idiot the other guy was... Trying to pass here was just totally reckless. Thank goodness there were tires at that spot or else it would've been bare concrete... :( Good thing that you had no serious injuries and that the car was put back together...
Armchair post AF. but Blue flag or not, that driver should not have been allowed to continue driving, even if he was able to, that was a ludicrous place to try a pass and shows a clear lack of judgement. I hope you were OK and the car was at least recoverable, but that looked like a hell of a hit
The blue flag was for the car I had just passed. When I cleared 7, there was no one in my rear mirrors. My spotter called me clear all the way through turn 10. The guy that hit me was at the end of a super fast qualifying lap and I was just setting up for mine when I came over the hill going to 12. As you know you can't see anything in your mirrors because of the elevation changes and turns from 10 thru 12. My spotter was in the tower and he said the guy closed so fast on me that he didn't have a chance to warn me. The interesting questions are: a) Who's responsibility is it to make a safe pass... (the overtaking car); b) where do you overtake a car in front of you... (you go off line expecting the car in front to maintain his line), and c) Why risk a high speed overtake at turn 12 when you aren't in a race... we were qualifying, not racing and everyone out there was trying to find clean air. In the end, it was just a bad day.
Everyone is blaming the other guy but in the end it is Patrick's fault. If the guy is on a flyer and comes way faster than you why would he lift ? Also maybe he was expecting you to check your mirrors.
@Prodi DF what a stupid thing to say, there's video proof of the person trying to get pass him going down on turn 12 which is a dangerous turn and buddy has the audacity to try to pass hin mid corner? 🤦♂️
You don't get to punt someone into the wall just because you are in a qualifying session. That's the rule-passer is responsible for safely overtaking. The common sense part is not doing it down the steepest fastest turn on the track with the least runoff. In a qualifying session. In historics. 🤦🏻
Very much worth repairing! My crew at Robertson Racing have done a great job. She is all back together and more beautiful than ever. And with the updated Aero configuration installed the whole package handles better as well. We spent this week racing her at Road America at The Hawk. It was brilliant. Just have to stay out of the way of the maniacs in the Trans AM cars.
Fortunately, we have all of the moulds needed to fabricate all of the Carbon Fiber panels and Aero Kit on the car. The car is 1 of 4 Ford GT-LM spec. cars built for the ALM Series. So it is rare and well worth saving. Your estimate is pretty close... parts & labor.
Tyler, this is one of the Doran built ALMS spec GT2 cars. Chassis #003. It was originally campaigned by Tim Pappas & Tony Lazzaro with Black Swan Racing in the Falken Tire #54 livery. It was subsequently sold to ACS Express Racing in it's current livery with the #10. It was wrecked at Road Atlanta. I purchased the car from Wire Wheel and had it sent straight to Robertson Racing where it has been completely rebuilt to the current specification of the other 3 original Doran cars running the Piloti Livery. All 4 of the cars are now with Robertson Racing in Atlanta Ga. After my crash at Road Atlanta in The Mitty, the team at Robertson have rebuilt the car better than new. We were able to campaign it mid July at The Hawk in Road America. It performed flawlessly.
He stuck a nose up on that corner…. In quali? In historic racing? W H A T
cut down the inside on that corner - during qualifying!!! I hope the other driver was penalised in a big way
@adarvirohfanbelarus8889 Its a very unsafe spot on the track to attempt a pass, let alone cutting towards the apex.
When a man who knows his business gets blindsided by a lunatic. Glad you're ok and she's back on track!
Hahaha. Now i was not expecting that. Outstanding driving and then...

I feel bad for ya passing mid corner always sketchy!!! Hope you get it back together soon stay safe!!
That turn is sketchy to begin with. I can’t believe that idiot tried to pass you like that
I've come down that hill a lot of times. And as they say, that Wall hasn't moved in years. Glad to hear the driver came out OK.
Not a place to pass at Road Atlanta and for damn sure not in a qualifying session, sorry that happen to you.
Looks Like the exact same Idiot that hit me in the same place in fridays practice, Sorry that sucks
This is painful
Do you have more of the video showing the rescue team?

Lunge of the century. Shocking
He should of not tried to pass you there. Should have waited for that straight….
I rewatched it three times just to make sure I wasn't missing anything.....nope some idiot thinking it's Forza and sent it a little too hard
How far back was the guy when you went down the hill at the end of the back straight? How far back when you went under the bridge?
I don't know. I saw nothing in my mirrors coming down the back straight. He wasn't in my mirrors going into T10b. At the top of the hill under the bridge eyes were forward for obvious reasons. Just like a Forza Motorsport online lobby.....
As Ken Miles would say.."F#$#"
I believe those were my exact words!
A metaphor for life
saw the exact same crash last time I was at RA only it was a Corvette that got hit by a prototype

Not an issue. I didn't know reproduction cars were allowed in Historic racing anyway.
Corner worker at turn 6 gave you a blue flag. Why not let that car around you after turn 7 and before turn 10?

Ah yes missing an apex on the complete opposite side of the track caused him to get hit by someone else. Thanks for this insight!
