- Celebrating 60 years of the Ford Mustang and racing entirely on sustainable fuel, the Ken Miles Cup presented by LGT Wealth Management was a brilliant two-driver race for just Ford Mustang Notchbacks.
Among the drivers onboard were Timo Bernhard, Andrew Jordan, Gordon Shedden, Rob Huff, Tom Kristensen, Dario Franchitti and many more in what turned out to be an action packed 45 minutes.

Incredible series, I hope this goes on forever.
A few first-generation fastback Mustangs would add some spice. The Shelby G.T. 350 version would be preferable. :) But at 350,000 dollars and much much more, they likely prefer racing inside garages.
This was serious to watch in person. There is nothing like it
proper racing with proper cars, what more could we ask 😁
Enjoy your day Friend.
"... what more could we ask?"
Perhaps proper race coverage; rather than 10 minutes focusing on the "scintillating" battle 39th place?
Thank you Goodwood and England for having such a love of all classic American Muscle...your country seems to honor this era more than we do!
Beautiful cars, beautiful races, I have such a blast watching Goodwood races
05:11 - "If you can read this, I am in trouble" - probably the best sticker on a race helmet I have ever seen - an improvement over the classic "This way up".
Great action, coverage and production as always Goodwood!
Great vintage racing!! Got to love this.
Fantastic racing!!! What a blast to see these guys throw these old mustangs ARRROUND! BIG FUN
One of the most entertaining motorsports events I've seen. Bravo!!!!
At Goodwood, unlike NASCAR, nobody intentionally takes someone out. Great racing!
That's because they can drive properly.
@@andrewwaller5913 lol 😃
They are not just turning in circles
@@Adz187 Well..😉
@@andrewwaller5913 They can't afford it.
Great racing! I own two ‘66 Mustangs, so this is my favorite race.
I own a '61 falcon, '66, '87, '98, '05, mustang gt's and a '16 gt350r. Ive owned Camaros, vettes, challengers, chargers, a 1997 viper gts, the list goes on. However every mustang ive ever built, is still in my garage. I cant bring myself to get rid of a single one of them. My wife wont let me either. Even when things were tight a few years back and i sold all my motorcycles, we sold the big house, the RV, bunch of rifles, the mustangs remained. Theres something about them i could never put my finger on. Especially my '98. I love that car so much i cant begin to describe the attachment and obsession i have for that car. No. It is FAAAARR from stock. However it does still have the original 2 valve 4.6 liter v8 even though the only original piece left is the block. Its a 500whp, 2720 pound race car with a/c. I drive it every single day. I dont know what it is about the sn95 for me. Its always been my favorite car. My dad owned a badass black one when i was a kid. Its the car i learned how to drive in. My wife and i had our first date in my '98 when it was the only thing i had besides a one bedroom apartment and a female pitbull named Shelby. She said the second i shut her door she knew it was the last first date she was ever gonna have. She was LIGHT YEARS out of my league. I was a little overweight, had $84 in my account, addicted to oxycontin, and had 6 warrants for my arrest. She stuck by my side through everything. Never complained one single time. Shes my everything and its that little white 1998 mustang gt that initially turned her head. So ill be buried in that car.
Cool 😎
Sir, this is a Wendy's ...
Love the vintage mustangs! Such a beautiful sight!
This stuff beats the current F1 racing any day of the week!
Apparently!!!!!!!!!!😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😊😊❤
The first-generation Ford Mustangs are a wonderful car.
The best sounding series by far!
Looky what Lee Iacocca did to my Falcon! This is fantastic. Like the narrator said, it's awesome to watch these 'stangs in the corners.
Nothing quite like the mighty small block Ford V8 getting wrung out. Nice sound.
The only cars not running a Chevy small block suffered a breakdown and didn't finish the race. Just saying.
@@toolshedjunky Cars running at Goodwood have to comply with strict regulations, notably period correct specifications. Mustangs were never supplied with SBC, so no dice. Just saying.
@@pashakdescilly7517 In that period, SBF were rarely used because of reliability issues.
@@toolshedjunky To be eligible to race at Goodwood, the cars must meet tight criteria. That does not allow for the use of engines not supplied in period by the factory. You simply can not race a Ford with an SBC. End of. You are arguing an erroneous point.
@@pashakdescilly7517 I'll list some of the parts on those cars that Ford Factory didn't make,

I'm guessing you've never raced a day in your life.
These drivers are on the limit. Excellent drivers here!…..Tom
So THAT'S where all the mid sixties Mustangs are!
Fun fact: at least one of the cars in the grid had been prepared for this race a mere 7 weeks before the race! Before that, their car was a daily driver from California!
There is plenty left, one million units of standard HT Mustangs were manufactured 1964-1966.
Ken Miles Cup.
Beautiful
Great racing. more please.
Pushing the limits of how we define the word 'grip'...
Wow! What a show!
Great racing right there! Panels are cheap and plentiful for first gen Mustangs and they certainly drove like they knew that. What was with the shifter in the 166? Longest throw I’ve ever seen in a road race car. Great camera work too. Hats off to the Goodwood guys.
Great racing, none better 🎉
my cousin bought a 66 mustang back in '67 but couldn't afford payments so my mom bought it to become our family car, 289 with warner T10 tranny. It had a bench seat, basically 2 buckets tied together with a pad between them, the only one I'd ever seen.
What an execellent video watching these old mustangs sliding around. Having several of these old girls, i really enjoyed the driving talent. Cheers.
Thanks! Fantastic
Anyone tuning in from the States? All I've seen from there are in classics racing are gentlemen drivers parading their cars around being respectful. Can you tell me if there is anywhere that real racing like this takes place.
Check out Austrailian Historic Touring cars.
Might be what you're looking for.😎👍
@@thatfordguy2268 Yeah, was wondering about the USA. I know the Aussies hang their tails out! I've been to Mt Panorama.
Come to Goodwood Revival every September, the best classic pre 1966 racing in the world.
Laguna Seca has historic racing each year I believe, in fact I think there are a few goodwood channel streams showing them. The races seem quite competitive.
I've raced my Camaro and Corvette (from England) in US for many years with Historic Sportscar Racing and Sportscar Vintage Racing Assn and have never experienced "parading" or "procession" racing. We race flat out but with respect - just as historic racing in UK
Are these all 64 1/2 to 66 Mustangs? I had a 64 1/2 Mustang in my senior high school year in 1973. It was a 289 with a 3 speed floor shifter, gloss black with a red interior.I wish I still had that car today. Dean Jay Gross.
What a fun race to watch! Can someone explain (of share link) the rule set for this race series? Engine, suspension, brake modifications? What tire are allowed? What is the minimum weight?
Listening all those V8s... woow, just woow, it is intoxicating
I am rooting for the Mustang to win, place and show.
That’s so cool, I’ve never seen so many first gen mustangs.
The announcers for this race had to be the easiest job EVER. "The Mustang in the lead, the Mustang in the rear, the Mustang spun out, the Mustang has won" 😂
I would love to see this with the fox bodies
Spectacular driving
I was wondering where all the classic Mustangs had gone!
can't get better than that 👍
Stampede!
I want one! Was wondering where all the Mustangs went.
Now this is what I call “Damnit Racing”! I believe this is the best race I’ve ever seen at Goodwood. Swopping paint and a lot of sliding while guiding.👏👏👏🥸What a race this has been! Absolutely Brilliant! 👍
I don't remember TransAm cars drifting at all. Are the tire widths restricted in this race?
Proper cars
That's !!!!! MOTORSPORT !!!!!😃😃😃👍👍👍
Love Huffy
I didn't know so many Brits liked Mustangs!😮
The truth is, we can't afford to run them !! LOL
Of course, British car nuts love Mustangs !!! Always have !😮😊❤
Isn't it ironic, Ken miles didn't really like the Mustang.
I thought he didn't like v 6 Mustang.
He liked it a lot after he got to massage one into a racecar! The GT350 was a beast!
It only showed the road car he didn’t like in the movie he loved being part of development of the GT350 race car! And loved it after that
I think gt350 was herts rental Mustang. Carol Shelby was forced into that because of building GT500 for only those who wanted muscle car. Herts said "everybody should have the opportunity to drive a Shelby gt". Most of those cars were factory specs (smb v8)and Shelby flare on body parts with racing stripes. If I remember right
@@CarlosComstock you very much do Ken and Shelby both had the love hate all at once for them
Is there a cubic capacity in this series?
Essas corridas são melhores que a F1 de hj
Now I know where all the sixties Mustang went...
What tires (tyres) do they run ?
Was there signage on the 10 that we were not allowed to see? Only a couple of long range views as it moved up from 10th to 2nd after pit stop that was not acknowledged. Not even view of it out rear window of winner as 2nd finished.
KEN MILES WOULDN'T CARE MUCH ABOUT WATCHING MUSTANGS RACE.BUT RESPECT THE HISTORY..R.I.P KEN
Big fan of the Mustang. So I have questions. Can anyone tell me the engines they are running? Transmissions? Any special rules for these guys running these beautifully spectacular‘stangs? Oh and tires too?
They are all 289 small blocks, but heavily tuned. Gearboxes 'should' be all 4 speed toploaders. Tyres are Dunlop CR65 crossplies on all cars
My dude Lewis is 100% correct. Theyre allowed to choose final drive ratios, suspension settings, tire air pressure, timing settings, jetting settings, and of course they have extensive structural chassis and safety improvements. Other than springs, shocks, engine compression, windows, chassis and safety these cars are actually pretty close to showroom stock. I own 5 mustangs myself. '66, '87, '98, '05, and a 2016 gt350r. My '98 is my favorite no question. My '66 is set up almost identically to these cars except for tires, vintage air a/c and glass windows. When my wife and i can drop the offspring on my parents, the '66 is what we terrorize the town in. Gorgeous, self built, 105 octane burning 460whp 289, tremec tkx 5 speed. Im pretty sure i could get it to lake Tahoe without a steering wheel. Steering input isn't mandatory in a mustang you steer with the rear.
Nice! Thanks for the replies guys. Nothin like a high rev 289! Such a cool series. Hope they do one with Cobra’s too! Aw heck…throw in some Pantera’s for fun! My first car was a ‘69. Have had 2, ‘70 MACH1. Currently a ‘14 GT Track PAC car with 22k miles that I bought in ‘15
Are these all 289s or 302s
the 166 car round the outside,
round the outside,
round the outside
i thought the same thing lol
Yes these cars are cool Peace out
Was the fastback body not sold in Europe?
Parts for Stangs are as easy and cheap to get in the states as are MGB parts in the UK.
Did they not sell fastbacks in Europe?
Wish they made a new modern classic car racing sim like the old gt legends game.
Wow soooo cool.
just another thing....tom Kristensen didn't cruise through the whole field this time......when EVERYBODY else was driving a big american v8....yep just saying....
Please -- don’t yell Fire ! Holy cow Ya had me freaked out for a second ! 😮 All ok ✅
where did all these notch backs come from , you dont see this many in the u s a
What are you talking about, they are everywhere.
@@donziperk racing fia notch backs
@@alancollard8939 Well duh that series doesn’t exist in North America. Be more specific with your initial comment.
Race on Sunday, drive it home & back to work on Monday.
It was the mk 4 that Ken had his fatal accident in.
No accurate cause has ever been proved, the suspicion is the transmission locked up .
I've said it many times , This is racing ... get em out and air em out!
Yeah but it went on to be a winner 🎉
are these all 289's ??
Chev vs. Ford, a very long-lived rivalry on track and off.
horrible camera coverage, at the end we didn't get to see the car 9 overtake? he was 4 seconds ahead of the 4th place car? huh? do they rigg saloon racing too?
I'm just wondering how many of the 1st drivers were reluctant to pit in and handover control to their 2nd?! 🤔😉
❤as well prepped, presented and driven as they are. Is anybody else bored of yank tanks? They are not representative of what you'd see on the road BITD. Much rather see innovative engineering on cars that would hoon past your dad's ford pop.😊
woah
Shelby did not make any coupes into GT350s. He did make 6 convertibles.
Such skinny little tires on these Mustangs. Much skinnier than I'm used to seeing on vintage race Mustangs. Low grip makes for great racing, though!
All old stangs kool
I am surprised not to see a certain Mustang out there in that famous green colour, if you get my meaning? 😉
I thought the safety car could've at least been a Dodge Charger! 🤭🤣
Ken miles loved British sportscars, cobra, and others. Next time for kenmiles cup cars should be British, he would be happy
Yeah, according to the Ford v Ferrari film (no authority I know) Ken had a pretty poor opinion of the 'Stang when it was launched, branding it an overweight "secretaries car" or something similar.
Notice they are all 65-67 notchback cars, so probably restricted to the 289 motor which would have been the biggest motor available in those days. Like to know the rest of the rules myself, seems like something I fancy doing. A basket case early car of this model is still relatively cheap (they made literally millions) and all the steel is available in aftermarket. Even the 289 is not that well thought of by tuners any more that they are expensive. Why tune the nuts off a 289 when you can drop in a Coyote for less money and get an instant doubling of WHP?
@stephenboitoult8774 it's not about the mustangs. It's the name that represents. The name Ken Miles who loved British cars than American.
The coupe Mustangs used to be the poor relation to the fastbacks but I bet we're all checking E bay for nothchback Mustangs now, I know I am
i know not a popular opinion but this box ticking commentary does my head in
No offence to either Harry or Alice, but it would be nice to be able to just enjoy the glorious roar of these cars without the endless and often unnecessary commentary drowning them out.
A 2024 Mustang should be the Pace Car😅
I'm surprised ford didn't pony up one for this occasion
😎👌🏁
Incredible cars, great action, but there's really no point in recording it on such poor equipment that creates such choppy video. For such brilliant content it's really terrible to watch
I enjoy cars driven to the edge, instead of cars counting10ths of a second off a lap,
I bet a Mustang will win.
90% of the engines was illegal !they might still be 289 cu but that would probably be the only thing that was legal
With all the cars being 65 coupes, this seems to be like an IROC series but with mustangs using identical drivetrains. How unfortunate, and boring.
someone loves saying "ringing the neck"
Not a single fastback...😮
Would love to see some Shelby GT-350s. Unfortunately they are rare, wouldn't mind reproductions though
Are they sure it was a Ford that brought out the safety car?
OnlyStangs...
wait until these guys find out about the fox and GM metric platforms
Ken Miles cup, I thought his opinion of the Mustang was rather negative..lol..
What more could we ask? A button to turn off the IDIOT announcers. My blood pressure and rate drops with the race and the sound of the cars. Add these morons and it shoots right up. Love the Mustangs!
Also Shelby and Miles didn't like the GT40 either and they won everything.
But end the end the GT40 KILLED KEN
I bet a mustang wins
