  • This is the second episode of "Attack the Track" by The Simpit. This series is about learning how to dissect a track map and pick our most important corners.
    Inspired by The Petit Le Mans that is going on this weekend featuring some great mixed class endurance racing, we are doing our track drive at Road Atlanta. Road Atlanta is Northeast of Atlanta Georgia, United States and is a 12 turn 2.54 mile road course that is build upon a woody hillside.
    The track features a variety of different types of corners, including on and off cambered ones, Blind corners and high speed ones as well. It can be a challenging and dangerous track to drive.
    For this track drive we are in a race prepped BMW Z4 GT3.
    This is not a how to drive this track in a particular car. We are not pointing out braking zones or turn in points. Those thing swill change from sim to sim. This is about picking the right driving line, and making good choices based on a track layout.
    Drivers should be able to take what we learn here and take it to any track to learn the same thing.

    The curve at the end of esses is a bit iffy. Got my attention. And as you come down the hill onto the front straight that dang concrete wall comes at you fast. Been there done that.

    So tricky track. automobilista AI 105% eec endurance series. 4 seconds off for class leader.
    Have no idea for days where to find the lap time.

    Nice video topic IMHO...I just think you could have done a much better job during the actual lap showing just the cockpit screen w/the voice-over...versus splitting the screen into 4 smaller screens.
    I mean, c'mon..really...what benefit does the top right aerial view really provide? ;-)

    Road ATL is a very easy track to drive

      +Another Needless Network Not according to the many iRacers I've passed during my sim races at Road Atlanta. I always move up several positions past my original position on the grid because of the mistakes of others. Sometimes the easiest courses actually produce the most incidents. Every time I sim race at Monza, which seems very easy at first glance, produces more incidents than most tracks because you have to run at the absolute limit if you want to have any kind of decent lap time. This is also a very good track for me.

      it's always been a VERY easy track for me to drive, probably why my times are so fabulous, but then again so are my Nordschleife times.

    Easy track? NOT! It's only easy if you aren't trying very hard.

    TERRIFIC Information!
    Even very applicable to motorcycles...except the bikes have to take the 'kinks' at 3/4 which Really cuts speed topping the hill. But coming out and heading downhill to 5 puts you right back onto the same race line...

    • @BucketWheat
      @BucketWheat 7 лет назад

      You didn't point it out in the audio, but you showed it in the simulation... as you go under the bridge at #11 you want to line up with the RED marker on the bridge so you are lined up over the blind hilltop. You will be "light" as you regain sight of the Track and steering changes will be sluggish and 'risky' if you are too far left... and you MAY find yourself going down the outside pit lane...Especially on a bike, with the front tire possibly not even touching as you crest the hill!
