Absolutely love that Ernie helps out us nerds with these details. so cool to have first hand accounts from somebody who was hands on with all these iconic guitars
The only people who know the specific details & what was used are the people who were actually there! Beyond honored to have help directly from Earnie, never in a million years did I think I would become friends with one of my heroes
@NirvanaGuitars Dude you're doing wonders for our little community of geeks. thank you for everything you do and I hope 2025 is filled with more amazing videos !
Getting to call Earnie Bailey your close friend is pretty darn cool. If only, dude 😅 That mock up was real cool, too! Loved seeing how that final version wouldve looked. Oh, the power of photoshop! 😂
Never in a million years did I think I'd get to call one of my heroes my friend! Huge props to Jeff for putting together that mockup, it looks so cool! 👏
Eric, you are insanely humble for what you do, and who you are. At the end of the video you say you’re just the “middle man” in all of this, but seriously you are so much more than that. I think you are without a doubt the biggest source of nirvana/kurt related gear bar none, and without your documentation we would have almost none of the information we do. Pat yourself on the back man! Your efforts are invaluable to the Nirvana community, and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for your channel next.
I think it's just a perspective trick. One arm is far behind him and one is pushed to the foreground, but with the context of the photo removed our brains perceive it as having less depth
I remember getting an issue of guitar magazine, back in the late nineties, and reading Ernie's article over and over. I new he was a good guy back then, and now to see his coolness shine all these years later! I don't comment on here much, but I want to say good job on your production value, your research, and your passion for us Nirvana Nerds.
Hey Eric, I just wanna say this history of the Tom Strat is amazing and I can’t believe your friends with Ernie imagine being friends who help Kurt’s equipment that’s amazing! and happy new year 2025🙏🏽🤟🏽👍🏽
I just made my old Squier into a vandalism strat, and I love the look, it's awesome, but I don't have the vandalism sticker, but it still looks really cool, and it also doesn't have a humbucker, I just have a black single coil in the bridge, I still absolutely love it
We Need a like 3 hours podcast style on Kurts and Pats gear with Earnie and Vincent. You Are the only who could make this happen, Eric, make Nirvana guitars nerds dreams come true
I put a Duncan Distortion in my 2015 American Special Strat back in 2018 just because I already had a JB in two of my Fenders already. It turns out that using my Strat for some of my Nirvana tribute shows was more accurate than even I knew at the time.
good stuff man! I prefer the earlier angled bucker with traditional bridge and Fender neck, that looked amazing. I can't get into the Kramer headstocks, but hey they were needed and definitely served their purpose. lol
Hi Eric I shared your first video about T.O.M. stratocast and I started looking for when it was destroyed. in your video you showed two photos taken by a guitar technician, which he allegedly took in June 1992, but according to me, this guitar was destroyed on July 4, 1992, thanks to several preserved photos. sorry if there are spelling mistakes in the text, I wrote it via google translator.
It is well confirmed that those polaroids were taken in June 92 by John Duncan. The black hot rail strat was used and smashed on July 4, 1992, not the TOM Strat. This is my source: www.livenirvana.com/equipment/kurt.php#kc-ref27
I got my first guitar (A Squier Affinity Strat) around 1997, wanted a black one with a white pick guard so it could look like Kurt's. The black strat/black hb he is seen playing in the large photo in the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah booklet. Put a black seymour duncan SH-6 in it a couple years later too.
I was looking at the live Nirvana website and on 7/4/92 there’s a pic of Kurt smashing a black Strat, it could be the other one with the white pick guard but you can only see the back of the guitar so maybe that’s when he smashed the Tom strat
Hey Eric, huge fan of your channel. I love what you do and highly appreciate all of the information you give out to us! But I have a few questions, what gear do you use to record your guitar e.g. interface and what power supply do you use for your pedalboard? Thank you for this wonderful video 😊
Thank you so much for the support and kind words! 🙏 For interface, I use an old M-Audio fast track that I've been wanting to upgrade for a long time now. Guitars just always seem to take priority over that lol 😅 I use One Spots for my pedal power
Thank you Eric I've been looking for a cheap-ish setup for my Nirvana tones that I'll be releasing. I've recently acquired a small clone and the power supply I got is VERY noisy so the 1 Spot will be perfect for a less noisy setup. And the M audio fast track is around 30GBP on Ebay, which is around 37USD 😁
Yeah, this is closure to me. PLEASE tell Earnie I say thanks, this is just.. great. Makes my first week of the year a lot better. Thanks for this man. I appreciate this!! I find it so funny how it was a complete parts bin, and that it had a distortion. God bless Earnie, what a soul.

The difference in the size of his forearms in the thumbnail is INSANE

Thanks for the comment on my previous comment on your channel. You make some of the best content on RUclips in general, keep up the good work 🎉🎉😊

Love this channel! I don't have all the equipment but I still try to make the same tones that you make.
I Absolutely love your content, one of my favorite RUclipsrs, and my biggest references for tones. Thank you so much!
Yes! You are doing another TOM Strat video!!! I’m still wondering if you could consider making the 2/9/1992 live tone?
@ 1:47 notice the weird neck pickup with a chrome ring? And what’s going on with the Low E string pole piece on the middle pickup?🤔
With all your new gear and new vma strat you should do an updated reading 1992!
Fun Fact: Tim Lash of the band Hum also had a tune-o-matic bridge on his strat in the 90’s
Can you please do a, behringer eq700 graphic equalizer pedal settings for some of your videos. please. It would help a lot
Mate, the neck pick also looks different like has a biding or bevel around it.
PS: another cool video Eric, and thanks Earnie Bailey again.
I been waiting for this and now im happy
Thank you for your patience!
I love this channel! Even though I know nothing about guitars and dont understand the majority of what your talking about 😂

Great vids as always
I wanna get this strat! Amazing video!
My bro now that you have the TOM strat on lock can you please do an In Bloom tone recreation?
Unrelated, but a what if video featuring the stella woth 12 strings would be awesome, like a "what if kurt used the stella as a 12 string?"
My New Year’s resolution is to get a cross over with Eric and Aaron Rash, we love love you Eric, please make it happen
If only we had pictures of the Tom strat in it's final form in Kurt's hands
Just thought of an interesting idea. What if Kurt and Pat's tones swapped? Kurt's having being more bright, and Pat's being more low-end
Yeah just put some Suhr Neck it will feet good and the same shape
PLEASE COVER STAIN🙏
Do a video on Kurt's sunburst reading strat!
Can you help me figure out how to get the sansamp tone on my boss me80?
will you be doing a guitar collection video soon?

DIUDE THAT SCOFF TONE IS SO CLOSE!!!!! THE TOM STRAT NEEDS MORE RECOGNITION!!
Happy new years tom strat
🥳
That is very interesting somehow I didn’t know it had a black on black stage lol but that is seriously cool!! Love the TOM strat!
It's such a cool looking set up!! Hoping this will inspire people to build that form, would love to see one in action!
ALSO ARE THERE ANY PICTURES OR EVEN VIDEOS of this strat duing the '92 European tour?
wow awesome info!! do we know what shows it was played on/where it was smashed?? im guessing spain?
I thought kurt was chad kroeger in the thumbnail for a second
You should do a what if Kurt played the meat puppet covers with his unplugged tone and bleach tone
aw yeees! every nirvana strat is so cool, usually not a strat guy but ill never not love these quirky nevermind era guitars
This one has one of Kurt's most unique set ups for sure!

Did Kurt use a jb4 humbucker Duncan pickup and if so what single coil pickups did he use with it?
Very interesting
Very nice

Hellooooooo!!!!
👋
hi
Does this mean another TOM strat build?
ngl that mockup is really tempting me to switch my TOM's pickguard to black with an angled humbucker 👀
@@NirvanaGuitars Just do another guitar.
@@NirvanaGuitars Go for it! Btw, did you have the shim the neck to make the TOM bridge play nice with the guitar?
eric i did a shout out on my channel its small but your vids wer my life
Thanks for the shoutout and for the support!
ya can you do nirvanas last show
Was Kurt left handed or did he just prefer to play guitar left handed.
That bridge is so ugly and wrong on a strat.
im sure we all want our own now, i do....badly lol
