The real owner of Ragnar should stand up and identify himself, and give proof of ownership to the authorities. That would be the obvious solution?
Because this has not happened you can understand the concern and suspicion.
Or, my understanding is Ragnar was converted by Icon Shipyards in the Netherlands, so the real authorities should be able to find out who paid for the work?

    • @xpusostomos

Some shell company no doubt paid for it.

    • @Greg_Chase

I think this is the solution as you have laid it out. There is history on this channel's other videos of a russian owner replacing a non-russian crew (suddenly, recently) with a russian crew. I can't remember which video of this channel (eSysman SuperYachts) mentioned this crew-swap - I am pretty sure the crew swap was to have taken place right around the time putin went into Ukraine. It was as if "non-russian crew in good times, russian crew when we might be in trouble" was the owner's thinking.
To your point, they can disambiguate the ownership immediately if the owner identifies himself.
You want to trust the 'grapevine' too - if those folks on the ground in Norway fully believe this is a russian owner, connected to putin, I'd wager better than 50/50 odds they know the truth. The vessel's crew could have easily disclosed this "confidentially' to people in the local yacht operation industry there, and that's how the word got out.

The custom is to hide ownership to avoid liability. Looks like there's a little problem with that.
So, everybody has to play by the rules that someone else created to avoid culpability in any situation?
What if the owner is a criminal with criminal liabilities?
The owner should be compelled to come forward, and prove ownership to the port authority of the port in which the vessel is docked.
It is they who should decide whether there is an issue or not, regardless of the mechanisms designed to hide.

I remember seeing Sailing Yacht A at anchor off Formantera 4 or 5 years ago. Spectacular looking vessel. I subsequently read in local papers during my holiday that a delegation from a town in Siberia where the yacht’s owner (Melnichenko) owned the regional utilities had flown to Spain and were traipsing up and down the coast looking for him to try to negotiate that he turn the water (and/or power) back on at home. He was squeezing locals for higher rates, I think, and had restricted supply. The delegation even approached the Royal family in Monaco begging them to intercede should Melnichenko turn up at an engagement there. A charming guy by all accounts. Just lovely. If Russia wanted to take a cable, they send out on of there specialized vessel and do it in broad daylight, something we quite often see and they have done since the cold war-era. They even have Submarines based on there nuclear submarines that do that to, they would wast resources on a yacht for this.

If he thought he could get away with using nukes,he would have done it by now. We Americans realize that. And we realize this man is egging on the world to see if we will make a misstep that triggers annihilation of a good part of the world. And all of you think you are not a part of his sick game? If this starts, the whole world loses. Not just the Ukraine, or the former eastern block nations. They’ve already played the weather war games, so we know what is coming from that direction. Take a look at the block that voted with Russia on sanctioning. Those are the ones you all need to be worried about. It is not business as usual any more. You boys with your toy boats are right in the middle f a war zone. And look at the number if these scampering off to “safe” harbors. Even Vladivostok has become the Pacific Riviera. Putin thought it would all be over in two weeks. That’s one thing Putin forgot, we Americans are mutts. We have relatives all around the world, some close kissing cousins, others, more like 10x removed, but they are relatives. We are not perfect, far from it, But we have grit and determination , And we protect our own.

+40 years ago, the USSR, East German, “fishing trawlers” was to be found even on Tyne River. (and everywhere else)
I was there for months, but never saw those “fishing trawlers” go fishing any fish, but they had all kinds of electronics running, even their sonar, every time a British navy ship was passing.
It’s very hard to believe Russian “Super yachts” doesn’t serve a similar purpose.
I’m quite sure those vessels didn’t find anything of importance 40 years ago, but they was annoying and downright a harassment, when they pinged their sonar.
Those “Super yachts” need to be arrested, and the bill for having them under arrest, sent to the owner. If not paid, then those vessels could be auctioned locally for scrap.
Normal procedure on a normal yacht, there’s no reason to go specially soft, because it’s a Russian owned “Super yacht”.
