Is there anything you can do if you have a heavy clay soil that is prone to not draining. I have heard compost is good to use instead of sand as a top dressing?
Your best bet is drainage.
Compost isn't great as once it gets wet it can be hard to get dry and once it gets dry can be hard to get wet.
No easy answers
Adding stuff like humic acid to the soil will help but won't work miracles

Just scarify my front lawn so seed and top dress ?
Sounds like a plan forming
👍
👍
I put top dressingvon and then seeded after scarifying lawn does it matter. I had 2 different types of grass so raked one out
That other grass will still be there.
When would be the best time to do this? in the Uk i read late August early September then again in March April? is this correct ?
Perfect 👌

Do you not aerate first, turn feed - seed - top soil?
We feed last, otherwise you risk damaging the prills and moving it around to much
is it still ok to top dress a lawn this time of year or should I wait ..
Fantasic time - just make sure you water the lawn
How do you stop the birds eating the seed?
I recommend getting a bamboo cane or similar and tieing a plastic bag to the top of it to blow about, this scares the birds, CD's on a bit of string works well too between a couple of posts.
My dog urinated in a patch in the garden. It's killing the grass. Any ideas what I can do to stop this?

How would you renovate a lawn with a dog, do I need to do the lawn in 2 half’s with a barrier to keep the dog off as I can’t keep him off the lawn entirely.
Need to try your best 👍
