That's a big lawn, 3000m2? The greenworks dethatcher, is going to be as much use as a chocolate fire guard there. Hire in a pro scarifier or buy something decent. Lastly the bags, local builders merchant, ask for a bulklton bag they will know what you want

Hey there. When you say scarify in spring and autumn? So Does that mean twice a year? Also, do you use iron sulphate as a moss killer or a dedicated product; if the latter, which one? Thanks
Thanks for the video.just got a couple of questions what is the best order to carryout the following ? Aeroate- iron phosphate- scarify - lawn seeding and lastly fertilising . Is that the correct order ? Also what do you recommend for iron sulphate and lawn seed and fertilizer ? Many thanks.
We use professional tools that affects this a little. We aerate, scarify, moss control and feed. That order changes for things like over seeding. Seed - depends on the grass already in the lawn and the needs of the client
Hi Robbie great videos, had a company in to overhaul the lawn scarifiy, aerate overseed etc .... some parts of the lawn are like a trampoline so I raked it out but it seems so thick with old thatch/moss couple of inches... end up with a bare patch obviously what is best way around this please? P.S wish you were in the UK .. all the best and keep up the excellent work
Hey Robbie, Thanks for the video, looks great. I'm planning to do a bit of work on my lawn in the next few weeks. I plan to aerate, scarify, apply some lime(doing a ph test tomorrow) and then reseed. Would that be the right order to do them in and could I do them all within 1-2 days or should I leave a bit of time between certain steps? Thanks for your time and advice!!
Hi a very informative video thanks, can I ask if you apply the iron to lawn after scarifying how do you treat the black moss that is left. And what treatment do you use, is it a mixture with seed too. Cheers Simon
Hi Robbie, really enjoy watching all your posts. I’ve just scarified a large lawn for the 1st time at a house we bought last year. I’ve got Ferrogem to apply now but what other granular fertiliser would you recommend generally? David
I bought a scarf fire D Thatcher machine it was a son Joe scarifier D Thatcher for about a 150 bucks. It has already paid for itself And it works great on a smalle to medium size lawn I have thousands
Hey Robbie. Love your channel.Moved to a new house in March. Scarified early June in the super hot weather and have left my newly aquired lawn looking terrible with loads of bear patches. Realise now I probably shouldn't have done it when I did. Should I overseed now or put up with it looking bad and wait to overseed in the Autumn? Its a big lawn over half an acre.
my moss is so thick in areas of my lawn that when i rake it, there isnt much left at all! just a large brown patch of soil with very little grass. in this situation, should i fill these large patches with topsoil and reseed? what about aeration, should that be done before scarifying and top soil??
Roland, every lawn is different. The tools we use lets us do things in a different order this video explains why we do it that way ruclips.net/video/72BMdvuTRAE/видео.html

Hey Robbie. Love the videos. Thanks. In this particular scarifying job I noticed fertiliser going on but not overseeding or top soil. Is scarifying still effective? I assumed it was down to customer budget or the fact t the lawn was huge. Thanks in advance. Cracking dog by the way!
You dont need to overseed if the lawn is healthy and without bare spots. I usually overseed every three years or after a harsh winter but i scarify every year.
Great post! I've just grown my lawn from seed over 5 months ago. Is it best to just keep to regular mowing to further strengthen it and wait until late spring, or can I scarify even though it's still a new lawn? Many thanks
Hi Robbie I've just put down a new lawn end of August 2022 all seed not turf I'm happy with it looks good when will it need scarifying or will it be okay for a year at least before doing it 👍👍
Great video thanks. Am up North East England do you think August would be ok for scarifying? Also would you suggest a weed killer with some fertiliser straight after the process? Thank you.
Hi J, I don't recommend fertilisers or weed control on this channel. To many variations and things to consider. Though we will be starting the scarifications from mid August this year.
Hi Robbie loving the videos have helped me in my work as I have only recently moved into scarifying i live in north west England so when would you recommend I consider starting to scarify this year? Thanks
Hello Robbie, great video as always, my lawn is coming along nicely since starting to watch your videos at the start of lockdown. I have been following your advice and I scarified (hard) late March and it took a while to come back (although now stronger and better) but I’m planning on doing another hit in September October time as there is still some thatch/moss in the lawn. How do I know how low to set the blades, to do the best job with the least damage? Thanks again
Premier Lawns was thanks for coming back to me , I always have seed and feed in the cupboard, as I’m obsessed now with having a full lawn, with the scarifying is it best to just do a patch and lower it bit by bit until it starts to take a bit of the green grass with the brown out?
I've been watching your videos since before you had 1k subs now up to 12k! Amazing! My question is I am looking for a scarifier(electric) to replace the one I have. It's too heavy and clunky. Is there a type you recommend. Seen a Bosch which I fancy
Hey waseem thanks for watching 😁 My channel has grown just a little this year ❤ To be honest I don't know much about electric scarifiers as all my tools are petrol. Sorry this doesn't help you much.
Hi these videos are great. Can I ask is the timeline scarify/ moss control and seed in one day? I see it suggested elsewhere to do the moss control two weeks or so before seed? What stuff is it you use to do it in one day? Can you do a link to it? Thanks
Hi Robbie, what type of nozzle and nozzle sizes do you uses for different applications eg moss control and herbicides with your knapsack sprayer. Great channel thanks.

@@Premier_lawns_official I took inspiration from you and was out this afternoon mowing up the leaves and mess. Looking forward to getting stuck in during the coming weeks.
Great videos Robbie. Any tips on the removal of meadow grass? I scarified, over seeded and top dressed earlier in the year and the grass is looking great but I have patches of meadow grass which is spoiling the look!
Excellent - I’ll look out for it! I may have been better to take it all up (there wasn’t much left after scarifying you be honest!!) and seed the whole lawn again but I’m now pulling out sections of it by hand and then filling back in with top soil n seed mix.
Robbie - have a new petrol scarifier. It has two cassettes - blades on one and tines on the other. Which cassette should be used? I realise too early yet but want to know whether the blades are only for aerating or do they also remove moss/thatch or is it only the cassette with tines that scarify?
A question! Scarifying is best when the soil is warm and the grass is actively growing, and not in hot and dry conditions. I’ve killed off weeds and moss in my lawn and want to get rid of them ASAP. Is there any reason why I can’t scarify my lawn now as the forecast is cool/warm with plenty of rain? Surely the grass will recover quickly?
Hi Andrew The forecast for the next week or so is for rain. What about 2/3 or 4 weeks away? If the weather switches back to really hot weather, that will put a lot of stress in the lawn
Good advice. What is the scarifying machine you use called? There's loads out there ranging from £100-£4000?? Any tips as I want to get one but not sure?
Is Scarifying with a thin lawn rake OK on turf that was laid about 8 weeks ago? Light brown patches across the lawn eventhough it was properly watered. When patch testing it with the rake allot of thatch is lifting even though its only been cut 4 times?
Change in the seasons? I think so we are seeing signs of early autumn colours now in the end of July. For example our eucryphia is in flower now, usually it flowers end of august/ early September and our Parrotia Perseca is turning colour already. We live in Widnes.

Hi, I’m moving house and the lawn has been left since probably May so is very high, probably full of weeds I recall seeing clover the last viewing we had. It’s going to be a big task to get it looking great and I don’t mind a period of looking bad along with regular watering. So, with that in mind could I get aggressive and scarify, feed n weed, top dress and overseed in the next few weeks? Or what would you advise? I’m in Shropshire, England
Probably best finding a local gardener to get it knocked down and sprayed with pro level weed control. See what's there and what you are working with first
Premier Lawns thanks for a rapid response. Pretty sure it’s clover , some dandelions and a bit of moss/thatch I’d imagine as it was a rental and they didn’t even know what sun the garden got. Thanks again. Love the channel
Hi Robbie, recently aerated lawn and removed moss and thatch, over seeded and topped dressed lawn. Waiting for seed to germinate now, watering regularly. Have missed an area of moss. What what you recommend please? Not too much moss missed. Live in south east of U.K. Leave till spring now?
I have some bare patches on my lawn (reckon I was too enthusiastic with the scarifier.) What’s the best way/best time to fix them, please? I live in the Midlands.
I scarified a lawn in march and it still hasn't recovered. I still have bare patches where the new grass seed hasn't germinated. Its been too hot and dry since then, even using sprinklers.
Hi Robbie, another great video. I have a question if that’s ok. I laid new turf over a month ago but for one reason or another I let my grass grow to long and it went to seed before I did my first cut. I am now left with thin grass in areas and bold patches in the lawn and what looks like thick meadow grass. How can I rectify this? Any advice would be great!
This is very general advice. Try and cut it regularly (obvious I know) If you see lots of weed grass coming into the lawn cut them out with a knife. The lawn could also do with a feed
About ten years ago I started noticing spring temperatures got to us about 3 - 4 weeks earlier. Worrying! Your videos are much appreciated.

That's a big lawn, 3000m2? The greenworks dethatcher, is going to be as much use as a chocolate fire guard there.
Hire in a pro scarifier or buy something decent.
Lastly the bags, local builders merchant, ask for a bulklton bag they will know what you want
@@Premier_lawns_official Thanks for your prompt reply. Really impressed!! Re the area 150x70ft is approx 10,000ft2 which i think that it equates to 1,000m2.. (divide by 10) and that's the ground area but there are lots of beds so prob about half that?I you mention Eliete E501 but that's in xs of £2k so maybe hiring for a weekend would be better. Local hire place has Honda GX160... any good?! Thanks again
@@jobourne5267 I think so yes, even 1000m2, that's a big lump of lawn. At best it will take you a day to do with the pro tools. Probably more like two for the first time anyway...
Great video, visited Belfast today for some work boots, lovely people up there I have to say

Another great video. Thanks! I’ve used Resolva Weed killer for lawn. It’s killed weeds but left yellow patches. Should I put lawn patch down or will it go away on its own accord? Any advice gratefully accepted! Many thanks
Best to leave it to work it's magic
Another great video Robbie. 👍🏼
Have you been getting yourself a Mavic Air 2?
Yes got the air 2. Fantastic device ❤
Easy to fly, not so easy to film and use those clips in the videos.
Hey there. When you say scarify in spring and autumn? So Does that mean twice a year?
Also, do you use iron sulphate as a moss killer or a dedicated product; if the latter, which one? Thanks
Loved the outro really cool effect
👍👍👍
Thanks for the video.just got a couple of questions what is the best order to carryout the following ?
Aeroate- iron phosphate- scarify - lawn seeding and lastly fertilising . Is that the correct order ? Also what do you recommend for iron sulphate and lawn seed and fertilizer ? Many thanks.
We use professional tools that affects this a little. We aerate, scarify, moss control and feed.
That order changes for things like over seeding.
Seed - depends on the grass already in the lawn and the needs of the client
@@Premier_lawns_official so you would seed before feed ? Any recommendations for feed ?
Hi Robbie great videos, had a company in to overhaul the lawn scarifiy, aerate overseed etc .... some parts of the lawn are like a trampoline so I raked it out but it seems so thick with old thatch/moss couple of inches... end up with a bare patch obviously what is best way around this please? P.S wish you were in the UK .. all the best and keep up the excellent work
Need to seed those areas
@@Premier_lawns_official cheers robbie
Hey Robbie,
Thanks for the video, looks great.
If you have fertilised the lawn in the last 3 months you won't get a true Ph reading
@@Premier_lawns_official Thanks Robbie. Haven't fertilised this year. Glad to hear all the rest sounds like a half decent plan so!
@@tehbiggles Good luck with it
Hi a very informative video thanks, can I ask if you apply the iron to lawn after scarifying how do you treat the black moss that is left. And what treatment do you use, is it a mixture with seed too. Cheers Simon
The grass grows through any remaining moss, its not an issue
Thanks I suppose the best thing I've learnt from your vids is not to take too much off at once so if I have to do it spring and autumn then so be it.
@@simonmahoney2328 Little and often is the best way
Hi Robbie, really enjoy watching all your posts. I’ve just scarified a large lawn for the 1st time at a house we bought last year. I’ve got Ferrogem to apply now but what other granular fertiliser would you recommend generally? David
Hi David I will be bringing out my own fertiliser in a couple of months.
@@Premier_lawns_official okay fab, I’ll keep an eye on the channel for that to be announced
I bought a scarf fire D Thatcher machine it was a son Joe scarifier D Thatcher for about a 150 bucks. It has already paid for itself And it works great on a smalle to medium size lawn I have thousands
Sounds perfect 😁
Wow, that's looking amazing with the stripes. Nice video 👍 Why didn't you aerify this time? How do you decide if you need to aerify a lawn or not?
Depends if the client wants it or not (budget etc)
Thanks, ok I see, so you would recommend it every time before scarifying, once or twice a year?
If you can do it once a year ❤
my moss is so thick in areas of my lawn that when i rake it, there isnt much left at all! just a large brown patch of soil with very little grass. in this situation, should i fill these large patches with topsoil and reseed? what about aeration, should that be done before scarifying and top soil??
Roland, every lawn is different. The tools we use lets us do things in a different order this video explains why we do it that way ruclips.net/video/72BMdvuTRAE/видео.html
Robbie, can you recommend a good fertiliser and also is it best to spray on the iron product to kill the moss after the scarifying
There is product links in all the video descriptions
What's your thoughts on fixed or swinging blades on a scarifier. Great video 👍
Either or 😁
Bought my scarifier it’s sitting in my garage waiting for September, could you do a shopping lists of everything I need and link them to your video hopefully commission for you... and another great video
That’s precisely what I need too OR the name of someone good in Glasgow that could do a reasonable deal? Great channel for a novice like me 👍
Hey Robbie. Love the videos. Thanks.
In this particular scarifying job I noticed fertiliser going on but not overseeding or top soil. Is scarifying still effective? I assumed it was down to customer budget or the fact t the lawn was huge. Thanks in advance. Cracking dog by the way!
That's Bella my collie, the real star of the show ❤
No aeration or seeding at this one. Depends on what the clients needs are..
@@Premier_lawns_official cheers Robbie. Subscribed today!
You dont need to overseed if the lawn is healthy and without bare spots. I usually overseed every three years or after a harsh winter but i scarify every year.
Overseeding is good to keep out poa
Great advice thanks. Any recommendations for dealing with clover?
I can't advise on domestic weed control
Nice work Robbie, looking good. How much ml of sea weed per liter in a knapsack sprayer would you recommend for general maintenance?
Depends on the product, it's not usually that much 50-100mm per 10l.
Helps to leave the lid off the sprayer for 5-10 to let it ferment
@@Premier_lawns_official 5-10 days I assume?
just found your page and it is excellent thanks!!
Thanks David, any questions fire away 👍
Great vids, quick question: Do you recommend scarifying twice a year or just spring or autumn?
Great post! I've just grown my lawn from seed over 5 months ago. Is it best to just keep to regular mowing to further strengthen it and wait until late spring, or can I scarify even though it's still a new lawn? Many thanks
I wouldn't scarify it this year
@@Premier_lawns_official Cheers - really appreciate that, thanks
Hi I watch your videos. I think you are doing a good job. Could you tell me which fertilizer to use after over seeding and top dressing. Many thanks.
The fertilisers I use are professional use only and not readily available in small bags.
Hi Robbie I've just put down a new lawn end of August 2022 all seed not turf I'm happy with it looks good when will it need scarifying or will it be okay for a year at least before doing it 👍👍
I would leave it at least 6 months, depends on the lawn
@@Premier_lawns_official nice one thanks 👍👍
Great video thanks. Am up North East England do you think August would be ok for scarifying? Also would you suggest a weed killer with some fertiliser straight after the process? Thank you.
Hi J, I don't recommend fertilisers or weed control on this channel. To many variations and things to consider.
Though we will be starting the scarifications from mid August this year.
@@Premier_lawns_official Thank you.

I'm asked this all the time and I think it just comes with experience. Why not get yourself a bag of seed just in case.
Premier Lawns was thanks for coming back to me , I always have seed and feed in the cupboard, as I’m obsessed now with having a full lawn, with the scarifying is it best to just do a patch and lower it bit by bit until it starts to take a bit of the green grass with the brown out?
Only keep it in the cupboard for a year less. It doesn't keep 😉
thanks for the videos... can i ask if scarfying is ok just once a year or better twice
Twice is better
I've been watching your videos since before you had 1k subs now up to 12k! Amazing!
My question is I am looking for a scarifier(electric) to replace the one I have. It's too heavy and clunky. Is there a type you recommend. Seen a Bosch which I fancy
Hey waseem thanks for watching 😁
My channel has grown just a little this year ❤
To be honest I don't know much about electric scarifiers as all my tools are petrol. Sorry this doesn't help you much.
Hi Robbie
What Eliet scarifier are you using? Great video.
Hi Andrew I use the 501
Great video as usual have a nice weekend
Same to you Mack 😁
Hi these videos are great. Can I ask is the timeline scarify/ moss control and seed in one day? I see it suggested elsewhere to do the moss control two weeks or so before seed? What stuff is it you use to do it in one day? Can you do a link to it? Thanks
Hi Steven, if you seen that somewhere else they have taken that one from me. You shouldn't do moss control at the same time 👍
Hi, great video! Thanks a lot!!! One question, what kind of fertilizer are you using? Are fertilizers 3 in 1 good? Those who kill weed I mean?
3 in one are fine for what they are.
Hi Robbie, what type of nozzle and nozzle sizes do you uses for different applications eg moss control and herbicides with your knapsack sprayer. Great channel thanks.

Great videos Robbie. Any tips on the removal of meadow grass? I scarified, over seeded and top dressed earlier in the year and the grass is looking great but I have patches of meadow grass which is spoiling the look!
I keep meaning to do video on annual meadow grass, however other videos keep getting in the way. Though it is coming
Excellent - I’ll look out for it! I may have been better to take it all up (there wasn’t much left after scarifying you be honest!!) and seed the whole lawn again but I’m now pulling out sections of it by hand and then filling back in with top soil n seed mix.

Hi Rob, I have just scarified my lawn and got out lots of dead grass. What's next? Fertiliser?
Keep it watered, a feed wouldn't go a miss too.
Premier Lawns thanks
Nice video Robbie
Thanks for stopping by Joseph, hope you have a cracking weekend 😁
Robbie, did you apply moss killer and fertilise the same day you scarified?? Thanks
Yep!
Robbie - have a new petrol scarifier. It has two cassettes - blades on one and tines on the other. Which cassette should be used? I realise too early yet but want to know whether the blades are only for aerating or do they also remove moss/thatch or is it only the cassette with tines that scarify?
I'm not sure and don't wish to give you bad advice, I would go with what it says in the manual
Do you need a dry day to scarify the lawn? Or is it OK to do it on a showery day?
It's much more fun on a dry day!
Hi Andrew
The forecast for the next week or so is for rain. What about 2/3 or 4 weeks away?
If the weather switches back to really hot weather, that will put a lot of stress in the lawn
Thanks for your quick reply. I guess I’ll have to decide whether to take the risk. Great videos!
@@andrewrowlands4542 thanks 😁 hope you enjoy the rest of the weekend
Hi, I have some granular lawn feed/moss killer. Would you apply this first and leave a while before scarifying the lawn? Many thanks.
We put it on afterwards as I think it works best
Might seem a stupid question but which rake is best to scarify my lawn for the first time in March? Is it a lawn rake or an ordinary rake?
You can use a spring tine rake
@@Premier_lawns_official Yes. that is a lawn rake. I have a spring tine rake and an ordinary rake but was just concerned that I might do damage.
Not if you do it early spring, you will be grand
Do you guys mostly grow cool season grasses there? The amount of thatch you pull out in these vids is incredible (and staisfying to watch lol).
Yes cool season grass here
I’ve heard that applying liquid seaweed helps the lawn...when’s the best time to apply and how often? Another good video btw
Seaweed I great. Every 6-8weeks is best
Can you comment on how wet or dry a lawn needs to be for scarifying - what is too wet and what is too dry?
Common sense should tell you. If it's to wet to cut...
Great video! Can scarification be done manually? I.e. with a garden rake? If so, should the same process be followed?
Yes you can scarify with a rake but it's hard work
Good advice. What is the scarifying machine you use called? There's loads out there ranging from £100-£4000?? Any tips as I want to get one but not sure?
The one I use is around 2k mark. Best out there
Lovely Job! well done
Thank Bert ❤👍
Is Scarifying with a thin lawn rake OK on turf that was laid about 8 weeks ago? Light brown patches across the lawn eventhough it was properly watered. When patch testing it with the rake allot of thatch is lifting even though its only been cut 4 times?
I wouldn't advise it
Awesome video!
Thanks ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍
Change in the seasons? I think so we are seeing signs of early autumn colours now in the end of July. For example our eucryphia is in flower now, usually it flowers end of august/ early September and our Parrotia Perseca is turning colour already. We live in Widnes.
I never use lime. If you have fertilised in the last few months you won't get a true ph reading

Was this reel mowed? Whats the best way to level a lawn for reel mowing? with a roller or just some soil and a rake?

Try and cut it regularly (obvious I know)
If you see lots of weed grass coming into the lawn cut them out with a knife.
The lawn could also do with a feed
